Dorothy's - the Oz Room Experience Definitely book your group (up to 20) for this private room for your upcoming event! $40 nonrefundable deposit with a 90-minute hold on room & total spend required of $400. We celebrated two birthdays tonight ... early greetings from Darian was wonderful, but the service from Jennae was outstanding ... the Chef (Marvin?) stopped by too ... all our entrees for 20 adults came out hot and all at once & everyone said their dish was delicious! Looking for something unique and fun -- check them out!! Dorothy's Downtown (New Orleans style menu)

Love love love this place. First time here but if I am ever back in Jax for a night this will be the place I go. Sat at the bar, bartender was great. She was also helpful with the menu. I had the crab cake bites off of the happy hour menu.. 1 word. delicious... I also got the salmon, it was really good as well as the potatoes I didn't really care for the spinach I would substitute that. But the rest of meal was great. My friend got the voodoo balls, they were ok but she liked my crab cakes better.

I promise I hate writing bad reviews. Yesterday my family and I were out and since we were downtown we decided to try Dorothy's. I was like sure why not the hype around the restaurant was worth the try. For starters we had the deviled eggs and the crab cakes. If I see deviled eggs on the menu I will try them. Theirs were good I wish it were just a little bit more bacon on them. The crab cakes were nice and warm and the flavor was everything! My main entree I had the gumbo and fried chicken. The chicken was a boneless skinless chicken thigh. It was flavorful but I was as not expecting the chicken to be in the same bowl as the gumbo. But what made my experience not the best was my food being cold. I was like I'm not tripping am I and yes it was cold lol. My husband's food was cold too he had the crawfish etoufee. Our server offered to have the chef remake my dish but I was already over it. Lastly, my water was absolutely disgusting. It gave tap water. However I saw some folks with glass jars and vos water on their table except mine. Besides my lackluster experience with the food the vibe inside the restaurant is absolutely amazing. The music was good and the service was excellent as well. Unfortunately I cannot recommend this place based off my experience but if people do choose to go I hope they have a better experience than me!

The minute you walk into the door you immediately feel the southern charm and the decor is on point! You are welcomed and seated! The smells from the kitchen loomed me in and peaked my desire to order quickly!! Our sever, Bree, was ONE of the best servers I've had in a long while! She was knowledgeable, welcoming, took her time explaining the history behind Dorothy's and guided us in exploring the menu! If you have not tried Dorothy's then you are missing out on a gem of an establishment!!!

This is really a great spot to eat. The ambiance is rustic modern with a cozy Jazzy vibe. My waitstaff,Lee and Kyle, were 5 stars . They were warm and attentive. The food was pretty good too. The chicken was juicy and perfectly fried paired with mini Belgian waffle and seasoned butter and honey...YUM! The beignets were hot and flaky and paired well with the chocolate sauce. If in Jacksonville, be sure to stop by. Next time I'll try the short ribs and grits... Oh, did you look at the Wizard of Oz themed patio? It's too cute.

This was a great find for a Sunday brunch. Although it's strange that they don't have the brunch menu posted on their website, I had been able to piece together the menu essentially from looking online at reviews. It's a beautiful space that feels very southern, reflecting their creole and southern cuisine nicely. Almost everything on the brunch menu sounded good! We started with the voodoo and boudin nalls to split. When they explained the voodoo balls, I think we were all in with the voodoo balls when they explained that they were filled with crawfish, rice, Snd cheese, and then rolled in Zapp's voodoo chips! These weee delicious! The boudin balls, filled with pork and rice were very good as well. We were off to a great start! The entrees were well prepared but some seasoning was needed. The steak had a chimichurri sauce but the meat itself was bland, as were the eggs. I had to ask for salt and pepper, which was surprising as most southern food is often overly seasoned. For dessert, we split the banana bread pudding, which was really good. It was moist without being wet or soggy and it had a nice crust. The vanilla ice cream with the bourbon caramel sauce added the sweetness, creating a really balanced dessert. Overall, the food was good and service was decent. I'm glad we found this place. I hope to return for dinner in the near future.

First time visiting Dorothy's in Jacksonville. Cute place downtown. The environment is warm and welcoming at Dorothy's. The food was exceptional. I enjoyed the boudin balls which you rarely find on a menu. And the pasta dish was good. Though I'm surprised that the noodles were lasagna noodles. That is what they appeared to be. Would visit again to try some other dishes.

Great spot for lunch in downtown Jacksonville! Came with a big group we were sat pretty quickly. We showed up right around noon so that was a huge plus the staff was fantastic and very accommodating to our large party! We got the deviled eggs for the table absolutely delicious not too over the top very traditional, and it felt like it would be at a cookout with a bunch of family! I had the shrimp and grits and that was the best creamy grits. I've had the shrimp is delicious. The sauce in the spices and flavor was chefs. Kiss definitely will be coming back here when I come here for work! P.S. the sweet tea was a perfect souther sweet tea!!!

Came here with a bunch of my mom friends for a birthday dinner. The decor inside was unique and chic. Darian and Athan provided the BEST service! When we got to our table, it was quite wobbly and we were worried about spilling our drinks. We told Darian and she was able to fix it in less than a minute! Athan will tell you he's Edward Norton's son (because he looks JUST LIKE HIM!) but don't let him fool you. He's great though, offered us free shots for our birthday. The food was so amazing here!!! I loved almost every single thing we ordered. The deviled eggs and Caesar salad were perfection. The boudin balls had a weird texture on the inside and needed more salt/flavor. The wild salmon was ok, but it came with a Creole creamed spinach that was so good I could have eaten a whole bowl of it. The beignets were better than at Cafe du Monde! And the Chantilly cake was the best dessert! So glad we came here and will definitely be back.

Groovy little spot in downtown Jacksonville. Small and very charming. Shout out to the bartender. She looks just barely enough to drink, but she makes a magnificent lemon drop. (she doubled as a server and provided outstanding service and recommendations). I arrived in time to enjoy an $8 martini and $10 crab cake....both of which were exceptional. Upon the bartender's suggestion I selected the delicious Cajun grits and lamb chops. Very well seasoned. A plus. Also a shout out to the delicious carrot cake.

Visited Dorothy's on Sunday right at opening so we were seated fairly quickly. After we sat down traffic started to pick up and there was a line outside waiting to be seated. This was my second attempt here because the first time we were turned away because the wait time was over an hour. Inside is decorated beautifully and I think is a great place to host a girls brunch with photo ops. The drinks are decent. The deviled eggs are good but have a very pungent mustard flavor. So if that's not your thing don't order it. The chicken waffles were not my favorite. There's a lot of breading on the chicken tenders, and the waffles aren't as crispy as I expected. However, the crab cakes was on point, and would go back just for that. You can bring kids, but the vibe is definitely more mature and yo my should probably leave them home. But that's just me

    Short Rib Hash

I went here with some friends for Saturday brunch. I got the short rib hash and a mimosa. Both were delicious. The food portions were huge for me, so I had to box the rest for leftovers. The service was great. It is a nice little spot downtown.

Came here for dinner and thankfully we had a reservation because the group in front of us was walk-in and they didn't have any table for them. The inside looks completely different from the outside, the decoration is very cute. Drinks are a bit pricy ($14-16), they were decent but I would suggest going during happy hour. We specifically came here for dinner because they have some vegan options on the dinner menu. We ordered vegan Wellington and ribeye. It took a bit for the food to come out (they were pretty busy), ribeye was okay - there was not really anything that made it stand out. The vegan Wellington was interesting- it had vegan meat and mushroom inside. The taste and texture was good, the only thing was the pastry outside was a bit hard to cut through. Overall the drinks were good, food was decent, place looked nice inside but a bit pricy for the type of food and drinks.

I'll let the photos from other reviews do the talking, but if you enjoy a good backstory, ask about the history of the space. My mission for the night was simple: end the evening with a great gin cocktail. I started with the Donna Bella from the menu. It was well made, but I thought the bitters were a little too forward for my taste. Next, I asked for an off-menu modification: a Water Lily for Teresa, but made with Roku Gin. It was a strong contender--aromatic, balanced, and beautifully floral. If you're a fan of a French 75, this is a fun cocktail to explore. It's less citrus-forward and leans into a floral profile with a character that's hard to compare to anything else. For the final round, I went with bartender's choice. Mick asked a few questions about my flavor preferences and absolutely nailed it. They crafted a cocktail with Roku gin, snap pea cordial, aloe liqueur, egg white, lemon simple, mint, and citrus that was easily the highlight of the night. Fresh, layered, and memorable, it's a drink that deserves a permanent spot on the menu....Mission accomplished. If you're willing to wander beyond the barbershop business front and you consider yourself a spirit explorer, Volstead is well worth the visit. Go for a round...or two. If you're local, this could easily become your staple spot. For what it is, strong craft cocktail bar option. Bartenders choice is the way to go.

The house band is pretty good, a little bit on the young side, but they seem to get the job done. OK. After the house being played a set, they had a sit in sessions with various musicians, which is always nice. The atmosphere is subtle and quiet at least for a club. Location is great, and the staff seemed friendly. It's good to have a place in Jacksonville with an environment like this and a place where you can go and listen to jazz/blues. I wish there was more like this, maybe with a little bit of older, jazz, musicians and more people who appreciate jazz as it didn't seem like the audience was 100% jazz lovers, but that doesn't detract too much especially since there's not a lot of places in Jacksonville that do what they're doing here.

My lunch portion of my Yucatán Quesadilla was only $9.99 as it was a Friday and it was just okay. Unfortunately, I did have to cut it myself. The "small" margarita for $12.99 is absolutely gigantic.
