I recently tried out this place during Art Walk. This used to be Burrito Gallery. The decor was very nice inside the restaurant, although the patio wasn't as open as I was hoping for. The service was a little slower, but the food was really well made. They add cream cheese to the grits, which makes them very smooth and adds a nice flavor. Mixed feelings about this place. I'll start with the good, the food is delicious. Everything was well seasoned, plated nicely, and tasty. The server was very nice and the outdoor patio was cute & comfortable. Now the not so good, the host was not friendly, and borderline rude. And the drinks were TERRIBLE! I'm not sure how they can claim to be a "craft cocktail" bar when all their drinks tasted like pre-made garbage. I asked for a dirty martini, and it was certainly not dirty. It wasn't very cold, no olives, tasted terrible. The espresso martini tasted like bottled mixer & syrup. No foam, overly sweet, just gross. We sent both martinis back and ordered a bottle of wine instead, and were still charged for the drinks. I have now been to Dorothy's Downtown twice for dinner and enjoyed it in both occasions. I have not tried it during lunch as of yet. The blackened salmon is a favorite and we also loved a few the appetizers including crab cakes, beignets and crab stuffed shrimp. Love the espresso martini. Cute restaurant in a great location. They have indoor and outdoor seating and the theme throughout is definitely cute and interesting. We have been to this restaurant going on 7 times in the past 30 days and have spent a pretty penny here. And every single cent was WORTH IT. The vibe is top notch. The food is incredible. Went to Dorothy's Downtown for the first time I loved the aesthetic and vibe of the restaurant. Easy to find parking even for downtown. I had the fried chicken with jambalaya I believe. The flavors were delicious just a bit salty with the chicken. My man had the braise short rib with mash and he really enjoyed that dish. The service was wonderful!! Dorothy downtown is where it is at. Parking right in front. We were the first to peruse the bar at around 3:15 pm. Happy hour starts at 3 pm. Lemon drops and martini were on deck. I ordered the voodoo balls w/ thai sauce, crab cake which we upgraded to entree status since you only get one and beignets! Last we had the smash burger with fries and aoli sauce. They were the hit of the night. A little live music would have went a long way on this our first happy hour at Dorothy"s. Dont be fooled at happy hour because I spent just as much I would when wifey and I would go out to dinner. We had 3 drinks in total and all the scumptous delights at Dorothy's. The staff was phenomenol. I think the owner was there but not sure. If so, he did not say anything to us when were bar sitting but did wish us a goodbye. The ambience was nice. The decor and lighting were nicely matched and executed. The music was a vibe not too loud like most places. It was a bit cold tho but again it's cold outside so a little heat would've helped on the inside. The server was pleasant and professional but her section was busy so I understood the slight delay of service. But let's discuss this food!! 10/10 for me and my husband. The lamb was cooked perfectly as requested I like medium and it didn't disappoint the seasoning and flavors were very tasty. The short rib my hubby loved. I tried it, I would gave it a 7/10 it was a little tough for my liking but again my hubby said 10/10. He requested gravy for it and he was on cloud 9. The creamed spinach was so flavorful and delicious. We picked veggies instead of carbs. Trying to be healthier. NOW THE CRAB CAKES let's discuss. You must order them. So we ordered the app and he and I each ate one. They were sooooo flavorful and good that we ordered them again. The crazy part they came out like 3-5 mins after requesting them again. I ordered a sweet tea & lemon for my drink, along with the Voodoo Balls and Crab Cakes for appetizers. Those appetizers were so good that it had me bopping and dancing in my chair! Right from the start, they were out of multiple items we ordered, so we had to keep changing our selections. My husband ordered his steak rare, and it came out medium well. He barely touched it, and we ended up giving it to our dog when we got home. My salmon was completely overcooked and dry. The potatoes were decent, but the creamed spinach was cold and bland. We arrived for lunch right after opening and were seated immediately (no need for the reservation we had made). Our waters were filled immediately and our server, Alana, kept both our waters and Coke Zero refilled throughout our meal. She also was helpful in deciding which entree to choose, I was debating between the salmon or shrimp with grits, chose the shrimp. The dish was good and had 4 extra large shrimp. My husband chose the chicken and gumbo. The fried chicken thigh was tasty and I enjoyed the gumbo sauce as well. After stopping by The District without a reservation and being pleasantly surprised they were booked, we were referred to their sister restaurant Dorothy's. To my surprise we had an amazing time! Dorothy's was just as delicious, if not even better. The atmosphere was charming and cozy, the food was mouthwatering, and the drinks were refreshing. The beignets were better than anything I've had in NOLA. Our waitress Kim was incredibly friendly and helpful. My husband and I had a great time on our first (and not last) visit here! The inside is gorgeous; it was colorful but not garish and fit the building perfectly. Staff were fantastic! Everyone was attentive and knowledgable (and very friendly). For drinks, my husband and J both got Fantasy Island cocktails -- these were refreshing and delicious and sneakily STRONG! If you gave me a pitcher of this, I'd be getting in big trouble but would have a good time doing it. For food, we wanted to save beignets for dessert, so we jumped into entrees. My spouse got the ribeye, and I got the shrimp and grits. He liked the ribeye pretty well, and we both thought the potatoes were delicious -- seasoned well and nicely crispy. I'm curious about several things on the menu, but I's get a side order of these no matter what else I got next time. For my dish, the grits were really creamy, thick, and cheesy -- probably some of the best I've had locally. The shrimp were cooked well and tasted fresh. We were both full but wanted the beignets, so we ordered them (along with our last round of Fantasy Islands). The beignets came out piping hot! They were nicely flavored and not soggy at all. I wish the accompanying chocolate espresso sauce had been a little thicker, though; it was a bit of a watery consistency, but maybe that's personal preference. The only other "issue" was just with plating: the ribeye was served on top of the potatoes, so you had to pick it up and move it over to start slicing in, and the shrimp is coated in gravy but comes tails on, so it's a bit messy to eat. Stopped by Dorothy's for lunch while on Vacation in the Jacksonville, FL area. Parking was easy; there is a parking lot right next door, but you gotta pay. You wouldn't think Dorothy's offered Cajun food but it does and I must say, the food was very good and tasty! I got the jambalaya with shrimp added; it was very good and the shrimp had a Cajun spice on it....sorta like what you get with blackened red fish. My wife got the braised beef rib with grits. She loved it. I tried a small piece of the beef and thought it could've used a little bit of Cajun spice. She was happy so that was all I needed to hear. One thing I did not like was the very small selection of the menu. I wish there was more offered for lunch. The servers were very nice and very knowledgeable about the food. The decor was very nice. See other review photos for this. When you first enter the building, if you take the stairs, you'll be going to a Thai restaurant. They share the same entrance. Wow! I was very disappointed in this spot. We arrived and were immediately seated, the service was not good we sat for over 20 min before our server came to the table. The ambiance is nice for sure and the space. The food I can not speak on because we had waited for over 30 min ordered drinks and the drink was too sweet I asked for a replacement and was told it could not be taken from the table OMG what kind of service is this they added additional lime juice it seems and brought it back, WOW! We did not eat dinner needless to say and I will not return based off the service alone! Yes we happily paid for drinks left them on the table tipped and left, the owner needs to evaluate this because to be told you can't take a drink and replace it but you took the drink and the bartender did what they felt would make it better is not customer service. read more

Our Devine Dinner Diva Club met at Dorothy's Downtown and it was a wonderful experience overall. The food was excellent and tstandouts included the crabcakes, salmon with cream spinach and mashed potatoes, fried chicken gumbo, elk ribs, short ribs, and the creamy Cajun pasta with grilled chicken. The boudin balls were also a fun and flavorful appetizer. Dessert was a highlight. The Chantilly cake was massive and delicious with beautiful layers and berry compote, the banana bread pudding with ice cream and caramel drizzle was divine, and the beignets were light, fluffy, and served with chocolate sauce. The ambience is cozy and cheerful, seating is comfortable, and the staff was friendly and attentive. We arrived about 30 minutes early hoping to grab seats at the bar, but it's very small and was already packed. The upside was that our table was ready early and we were seated right away, which we appreciated. A couple of notes for planning: some menu items and cocktails weren't available that night (including the Catch Me If You Can), which was a bit disappointing, though our server recommended a Mint Julep that turned out to be a great substitute. Also, reservations are time-limited, especially for larger groups, so arriving on time works best. Lastly, gratuity was already included in the bill, which wasn't clearly mentioned, and one of our girls ended up tipping twice without realizing it.
