The ambience on a rainy Saturday night was lively enough. It wasn't crowded though. The nachos were interesting. Not a pile of chips with toppings. These were individual pieces of chip, meat, toppings. A bit different than expected. The were also soggy unfortunately. They were tasty though. I ordered the skirt steak. Didn't expect it to be swimming in some cheese sauce. That was different. It was tasty but I could've done without the sauce. The dish came in a bowl so it was difficult to slice the steak. We were a party of 6 and the dining room was not full at all. The service was quite slow. Our server had to be flagged down for everything... drinks, food (we ordered everything at once when we saw how long the drinks took) and even the check. Since I only had 1 hour and was with my scooter the possibilities of me going inside to check out the restaurant was low. Dos Caminos used to be a neighborhood favorite 10 or so years ago, but it's not the same as it used to be. I came here for a birthday dinner with a group of friends. We were a large group and they were able to seat all of us early, which was nice. The food was mid-grade to be honest. We had 2 orders of queso and 2 orders of guacamole. The amount of chips didn't match what you would get and no one ever came back to check in on us. I ordered a taco salad, which was a nice portion. I had a margarita which tasted like a batch mix vs a house made cocktail. Our server dropped off the food and I don't think I ever saw them again. The bussers were the only people to come and check on us. We had an extremely wobbly table in the back of the restaurant. It was loud, so not a place where you could talk. Overall it was okay, but I wouldn't come back to this location. read more

Dos Caminos was pretty solid. We had a reservation for 7 and showed up an hour early and they accommodated us with no problem. They sat us under a ceiling heater, which was so hot that we asked them to turn it off. It was a 60 degree day and heat wasn't needed much. We shared queso and guac - very delicious. Some people had margaritas and everyone seemed to enjoy them. We each had an entree, I had the enchiladas con queso and enjoyed them very much. Every person wiped their plate clean so I think they liked the food! Our server was ok to begin with but then I think he went on a break because for an hour or so, he was MIA and no one came to check on us. By then we had long finished food, sitting with empty plates and empty water and no one assisted. We had to flag down someone else to get the check closed out. Our server reappeared and we closed out the check promptly. The noise level issue was moderately loud, they had someone blasting music when you walk in but if you sit further away, the music shouldn't be an issue. The bathrooms are located down a flight of stairs and were decently clean. We came here because it was the only place that could accommodate a large group after a previous outing of ours nearby, so it was a good option. Would I return if I had other options? I always come here while in NYC. It's conveniently across the street from SOHO house where I stay, so this is alway a stop for me. This girl loves guacamole and I can literally live off of it. So that is a MUST! They have great food but the drinks are amazing! I'll take 10 margaritas please! The ambiance is great, but the food portion size (though still quite tasty) has seriously shrunk while the prices have really climbed. For some reason they're not running the ac indoors. We experienced quite poor service - we had to ask multiple waiters for basic things, and the waiter was confused about the meaning of veg vs vegan -- so be careful if that's important to you. Then the waiter had the audacity to ask for a 30% tip! We had a lot of left overs bc everyone was unimpressed w the experience. Let me just say though I love Dos Caminos - it's really my favorite and I save it for special occasions. This particular location was very disappointing compared to the others in NYC. The main saving grace for this restaurant is their location and large seating area outdoors for a view of the city. We stopped by because of the Great Migration of Elephants exhibit in front of their patio area. The food is average. We ordered guacamole with chips, baja fish tacos, and sizzling fajitas with shrimp. The portions were small except for the chips. However, the shrimp was overcooked and burnt or charred. Non-alcoholic drinks were also overpriced. Our mocktail pina colada was 60% ice for the price of two drinks and more than double the price of our orange juice. The service was so slow that you felt time dragging on. It took forever to order as well as receive our food and takeout boxes, which never came. Hence, we just bagged our leftovers in our own containers and left after paying the bill because we had no clue when our waitress would return. Their staff is friendly, but it seems to run at their pace without considering the customer's time and money. Parking is tough on the street. Perhaps, you can luck out with a nearby lot if you're not taking public transit or a taxi. Given the above reasons, I'll likely try what else the city has to offer unless I absolutely need a break amidst the city for a pitstop her again. read more

Ready for a story? The waiters were great. Very attentive. The street corn and fajitas were great. I would skip the stuffed shrimp appetizer, was a bit underwhelming. The drinks were ok. As we're finishing up dinner, a mouse ran past the window. We jumped up and closed the window. But it didn't stop there, they continued to play outside in the middle of the patio as guests ate outside. It's NY so not much you can do but I would avoid sitting near the windows or outside if you come here. Maybe grab a seat at the bar or away from the windows to be safe. This is one of the best spots in Manhattan to have great Mexican food and drinks outside. There's a ton of outdoor seating along a charming cobblestone street. I like their fajitas- it comes with a heaping portion of sizzling meat full of flavor. I frequently come here for drinks, tacos, quesadillas, nachos, ect. My friend asked for agua fresca or Mexican coke and they had none (red flag). I ordered the carnitas tacos which were okay, not very juicy. You can definitely get better at any taco truck in Jackson Heights. I asked for green and red sauce and the waitress said they had no green sauce but that she would bring the red sauce. She ended up bringing chips and salsa. The salsa was trash. I ended up asking another waitress for green sauce and she brought it over right away. I don't even usually eat burritos, but these were so bomb. I loved the queso that tops it, and the guacamole was so fresh and tasty. The only thing that I didn't like was the passion fruit lemonade. It was sour & tart. I had happened to have my own pineapple orange Tropicana juice, and used it to sweeten it up. The service was friendly and attentive. The quesadilla is usually none of my favorites but not today. It was a little too crispy and was breaking apart as I took bites. The sour cream was used too sparingly and could have helped the dry taste. The chimichanga had red beans inside and came with a side of lime rice and black beans. The tenderness of the pork was impressive but it also lacked flavor. My two favorite items were the tuna. That flavor and freshness was spectacular. The Birria was very flavorful putting a different spin on street food. The ambiance was quiet probably due to a Sunday when tourists have left.
