I'm a huge fan of Tacombi. I've been to the restaurant location on the Upper West Side, downtown near NYU, and now here. Every time I am blown away by how great the service and the food is. I always get the tacos with steak or pork, but this time I decided to go with the steak burrito and switch it up. I loved the steak though it was a little too overcooked for my taste although it was perfectly seasoned. The hot sauces that were provided in the beginning of the meal were too spicy for my friends but they were just right for me. I'm a fan of the menu (in all locations) where you can check off what you want by writing on it with pencils that are provided by the restaurant. Overall the food was great, the service was fast, and my friends loved their experience too. I think they plan on coming back, as will I of course. read more

The amount of cheese and sauce (some kind of spicy creama) was just right. Now the tacos: *I wanted to try a fish taco but some of the reviews made me nervous! Al pastor: good amount of filling. The meat is a bit dry and could have been more tender. I wish the pineapple was more ripe. Sweet potato and black bean: Yummy- smoky and The cook on the potato could be more uniform. Some pieces were cooked through than others. The tomatillo salsa is delicious. Overall- a solid option. For two tacos and the esquites, it was just under $15 bucks. I'll start my review by saying it was very easy to get a table here for 2, I walked right in on a Saturday Night. The service by the host was amazing and she is doing a great job. The atmosphere was also really cool, it feels like you are in a makeshift restaurant in an alley. That's where the two stars would come in. We ordered a cheese quesadilla, beef birria tacos, and the beef ribeye burrita. The food was not bad but it was not great and the portion sizes were really small. In the beef ribeye quesadilla, it was mostly fries and very little beef. I could also barely taste any cheese on the beef birria tacos. Sign me up for the corn esquites and seared fish taco. We stopped by Tacombi as one of our final spots of the Foods of NY Tour through Nolita in the afternoon. But delivery today was especially horrific: 3 items (almost half the order) did not arrive, but were charged. What did arrive came in a bag soaked with sauce and grease/the food was crushed and cold. The rude person that I tried to speak to on the phone told me it would be "looked into" before hanging up on me. Still waiting for follow-up or the remainder of our order hours later. I did ask to remove the mayo from my esquites, and they delivered. I enjoyed those very much. Being that I have had actual Baja California fish tacos and burritos, it's pretty hard to beat the real thing. Tacombi tried, and I think they were okay. They lacked some flavor and for the price, the portion was pretty small. I did appreciate the quickness of the food delivery though. Since we got takeout, I can't comment on the ambiance. read more

I will say to whoever is organizing the algorithm for that to think twice!!! They use their own in-house beer to make the Miche with, which isn't super big of a problem but the mix that they use here is so bland and tasteless. Was not spicy, barely any sour tanginess, and almost no saltiness whatsoever. It reminded me of the half melted ice pieces at the end of your Miche after you've finished it, but think the whole drink tastes like it instead. Like essence of michelada, whisper of michelada, a cough of michelada, a MEMORIAL of a michelada. Rather unfortunate as the spot itself is pretty nice. I was too afraid to opt into trying the food. Ordered takeout on postmates. They currently have BOGO offer for al pastor tacos and BOGO baja crispy fish tacos. I heard the fish tacos were good and they were, but honestly wasn't that special to me. The al pastor tacos were very disappointing. They were so so dry and only had one large thin piece of pineapple on it and it wasn't flavorful at all. I would have preferred if it was cut up into pieces and distributed throughout the taco. I couldn't even finish the al pastor tacos. However, the guac was tasty. I got a small size and I'm surprised it came with a huge bag of chips. Who doesn't love a Taco Tuesday deal? Taco minis a staple here, regardless of the location, the service and food is amazing. My friends had me try the tortilla soup which was not on the menu and it was the perfect start to our meal. The spice set the tone for hot sauce on our tacos, and the pulled chicken was perfection! This is one of the times I truly regret falling into the social media trap, where food influencers hype a specific meal and I just have to try it. This time, it was Tacombi's collaboration with Michelin Star El Califa de Leon, and in my opinion it just wasn't worth going crazy for. The taco itself wasn't bad, don't get me wrong. The meat was juicy, great quality, and perfectly sized for their homemade tortilla (which I can say was GREAT.) The meat itself was just lacking flavor (salt even) and with the added salsas provided, it just wasn't a memorable meal. With coming to this restaurant solely to try this overhyped Michelin star taco, I unfortunately wasn't able to try much of Tacombi's actual menu. I did order the baja fish taco because I'm a sucker for fish tacos, and that was extremely flavorful and saved the entirety of the meal. My friend was able to try a few other tacos from Tacombi's actual menu and had no complaints there, saying they were bursting with flavor and perfectly seasoned. I tried a bit of the shrimp taco he had and wasn't completely satisfied (two small shrimp cut up into small pieces to make you feel like you have more, stewed in a sauce that leads to overcooked seafood? I'll pass.) It seems like sticking to Tacombi's regular menu is the way to go, and I'll definitely have to update this review if I return to try more of their actual food. But if you, like me, were excited for this partnership with El Califa de Leon -- I wouldn't even bother. There are so many taco trucks throughout NYC with great, flavorful tacos, that are even at a lower price point than these. Stick to those, and maybe plan on trying these "Michelin star tacos" from the actual location in Mexico City. read more

Went recently with my wife. Had one of our best NYC experiences so far! Truly felt like we were in an authentic Mexican restaurant in Miami or Carmen de Playa. My wife had the Crispy Chicken Taco and I got the Crispy Chicken Quesadilla. I got a Strawberry Marg and she got a Piña Colada. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, incredibly timely, and freshly made! Our drinks weren't strong, the churros tasted uncooked, and the restroom was FILTHY. The restaurant wasn't as busy as it can be. My partner and I waited 1hr for the churros - after 40 min in, we asked about the order and were informed that this dish "takes a while" - I've made churros at home and I don't agree. Beef birria was probably the best taco I had out of the four. It had enough flavor, stuffed with meat, and the consume made it not dry. I did wish the consume was just a little bit thicker so that the taco could soak up more of it. Baja crispy fish taco wasn't good. The fish was on the drier side, and the batter tasted a bit bitter. Therefore, the oil they fried the fish in could've been old. Al pastor was disappointing. The meat was tough, and it didn't have a whole ton of flavor. The carne asada taco was just okay too. I did like that they had grilled onions. Overall, I didn't really enjoy their tacos especially since they're pretty expensive. $5 for a street styled taco is insane, and the quality just wasn't worth the price. read more

I heard great reviews about this place and since they have a collaboration with Michelin star, El Califa de León, I went out of my way to try it out. It's a unique & cute restaurant but the food wasn't up to par. Who is giving this restaurant all these high ratings? The taco trucks around the city are wayyyyyy better (& cheaper) than the tacos they serve. I got the chuletas tacos from the collab. It was a thin sliced, under seasoned piece of pork chop slapped on a hard tortilla (with 2 sauces on the side). I didn't care much for it so I ordered the battered fried fish and a grilled fish taco. The fried fish wasn't fried well and the grilled fish was dry. The ingredients didn't feel fresh. And can we guess again? UNDER SEASONED. When I tell you everything is bland, it is bland!!! My group of 4 came here around noon on a weekday. We got seated immediately as the restaurant was mostly empty, it seems like they're mostly processing togo orders during lunchtime. Service was pretty friendly, but you could definitely also tell they were pretty busy scrambling to get all the takeout orders ready - we had to ask them to bring salsa and it took a bit for our food to come out. I think this place is known for their baja fried fish tacos, but I unfortunately was not very impressed with them. Considering how long it took for them to come out, I'd imagine they were making it pretty fresh but they weren't that crispy or crunchy. I thought the chicken quesadilla was also mostly just alright, it was not bad but I do think there are other places that do it better. I did quite enjoy my shrimp taco though, I feel like the shrimp was pretty fresh and it was very tasty. If I come here again I might just order the shrimp tacos next time. I have heard people come here for the salsa dancing and the vibes of the restaurant which it seems like they only have for dinner, so we possibly just came at a bad time. There's not much that I can add to the more than 1200 reviews that have been written about Tacombi. This is basically really good food truck food served in a restaurant setting. There's even the original food truck parked in the middle of the place. The food is good, food truck quality. The atmosphere is a lot of fun. The beer is good and plentiful. The Margaritas are good too. The staff are helpful and pleasant. We were served promptly and though we kept adding on to our order, the server was more than willing to indulge our appetites. We found the seared fish taco and shrimp taco to be our favorites. And the price can't be beat. This is a really informal place to enjoy tacos and have some fun. Both were decent, but neither super memorable and they weren't that authentic tasting. We originally walked in and placed the order to go, but quickly changed our minds afterwards and decided to sit down in their outside seating area to eat. (They also have many tables inside the restaurant as well.) Despite this, we were told by the staff that we couldn't eat there because we had ordered to go. We totally would have understood this had the restaurant been busy, but not a single table was occupied in this outdoor area, as can be seen in my photo. Overall, Tacombi is fine. For anyone who's been to Tacombi... how could you not love it. Tacombi has been one of my go-tos since it's inception (is Nolita one of their first locations?) and their tacos and cocktails are always good. I've been to this location when there's a 2 hr wait for 3, and I've been when there's no wait. It's honestly a toss up, but they answer the phones if you call and ask what the wait is! This location is very garagey (as are most locations) with a VW van parked inside. It's on the smaller side compared to some of their other locations but still roomy and airy. The drinks here are worth it and I almost always get the Rubio. Tart, a little sweet, and boozy for $11. The fried fish taco here is one of my favorite things ever. When it's good it's GOOD and when it's not, it's ok. 85% of the time it's great and I can live with that! I saw they recently added a fried first burrito to the menu which I did not get to try YET. I was in the area after an appointment and needed food so my husband and I decided on ordering from Tacombi. I've read pretty good reviews about this spot (not this location) so I had pretty high hopes for the food. We ordered 3 tacos- al pastor, fish, and carnitas, the corn, and a burrito. The service was quick- our order was ready for pickup as soon as we got there which was about 10 minutes after we placed the order. On to the food- all the tacos we tried were just ok. The meat in the al pastor was pretty tough which made it unpleasant to eat. The carnitas was the only decent one as the fish taco was bland and tasteless. The corn tortilla it comes with also felt like chewing on cardboard- it was just hard and not soft at all. Overall tacos were disappointing for what the charge per taco. I've paid similar prices elsewhere but with really good tacos so definitely a big let down. The corn came in a small cup- $4 felt a tad steep but at least it was good. Not the best, but better than the tacos for sure. Last, the burrito- we got the al pastor burrito (I usually love al pastor tacos and figured it wouldnt hurt to get the burrito as well). Welp, there were so much beans, not a lot of meat and for $13, it was also another let down! Maybe it was an off day? I usually get the fried cod, and today I went with a friend and tried the grilled cod, guacamole tostada, sweet potato and bean and we also ordered the corn. (I tried hers and mine I didn't eat all of those myself). We also had the pineapple juice which was good. The tacos are pretty small but they are packed with a lot of toppings.
