I went here for a quick cheap lunch today. Super excited after I read the raving reviews that dos toros got from other mexican food fanatics like myself. I at least expected better than chipotle. WRONG. My food was mediocre at best. I got a basic plato with guac. I don't know what exactly it was but it was suuuuper salty. I'm all for salty goodness. But when it masks the fresh taste of guac and pico de gallo, not so much. What i could taste was the hot sauce. HOLY CRAP. I love anything spicy. More spicy the better, usually. but i asked for a little bit extra, and without warning they piled a bunch on. I was almost not able to eat it. Really bland. Really salty. At least Chipotle's competing burrito bowl has fresher ingredients, with toppings you can actually taste. Won't go back here unless it's absolutely out of necessity. read more

It's impossible to consider Dos Toros outside of the context of the Chipotle chain. They're doing the same chain store thing, the same assembly line burrito thing. As much as I naturally want to support the underdog, Chipotle does it better. The quality of the ingredients is better at a Chipotle, the portion size is larger at Chipotle; it's just a better value at this fast casual ~$10 price point. There's also a greater chance of getting a seat at a Chipotle. And I really don't like the idea of Chipotle at all. Something about slopping a bunch of stuff together and wrapping it up in aluminum foil feels just a step above squirting space rations out of some NASA astrofood packet. What Dos Toros has going for it is block-away proximity to the Bedford L stop and being in an area currently unpenetrated by Chipotle. Dos Toros also has a 50/50 chance of having good, freshly-made chips when I drop by to pick up a $1 bag. Half of the time the chips are greasy or oversalty, half the time they're just right. I make and eat a lot of guacamole; having cheap freshly made chips right around the corner for my apartment is awful nice. Why this Dos Toros is not staying open late like the other nearby food shops like Oasis or Bagelsmith, I don't know. Closing up at 11pm on the average weeknight pretty much guarantees they won't be open when I and millions like me in Williamsburg are hungry and lacking the wherewithal to know better than to eat a thousand-calorie carb tube. read more

My sister is a burrito fanatic therefore we visit different mexican and chain restaurants to try burritos. Dos Toros is not like Chipotle it is generally designed the same way (ordering blah blah) but the food is tastier. At least to me and my sister, the seasoning on their food was not overwhelming like chipotle can be sometimes. My only negatives would have to be seating at this location is minimal. I get it in NYC you're lucky to get a stool but I felt cramped. The hibiscus lemonade (i think it was) was totally gross don't get it. Went here on a sunny Sunday afternoon starving and ready for some food. My friend and I had been walking around Williamsburg for a while looking for a place to eat and we found it. We walked in and the atmosphere was pretty relaxed, not too many people sitting and eating at all, and those that were sitting there were sitting alone. It seemed like a good place to go since we wanted something casual. I walked up to the guy at the food counter and he asked me what I wanted. I chose the basic - a chicken taco. I thought it was a pretty small taco and I wasn't that hungry so it would be perfect size. Boy was I wrong. It was a really filling taco, I asked for all the works, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese and they gave me a very generous filling. I couldn't even lift it up to my mouth without it almost falling out of the other side. The meat was very tender and not dry at all and the vegetables were fresh. The corn tortilla was soft and still warm. I think the only critique I had was that the taco almost fell apart in my hands when the moisture seeped through the shell. It was about $5. It cost extra if you wanted to add guacamole or other stuff on it. We sat by the window and people watched outside. All in all though, great place to eat. read more

I really like Dos Toros, it's delicious. That being said, it's just like Chipotle (which is also good, don't get me wrong), and it's NOT A MISSION-STYLE BURRITO. Period. I appreciate the effort, I respect the need, but there's still no Mission-style burrito spot in New York. It's fine, it gives me something (besides good weather, personal breathing space, and parks) to look forward to when I go home. As from my other review of Dos Toros in Manhattan, this is the only place to get a real burrito. San Francisco style as some might say, but it is comparable to Gordo (my favorite), El Farolito and Papalote. The cheese melted onto the tortilla, the beans, rice, meat, salsa, guac, sour cream and hot sauce all wrapped up in a tin foil of goodness. Remember, unravel a small section of the tinfoil when eating as to protect the structure of the burrito. The red hot habanero sauce is truly hot, so watch out. Awesome Chipotle style Mexican joint. You walk in and que up for your chance to point over a glass divider at bins rice, organic beans and fresh meats and toppings. Overall it's a little more expensive than Chipotle and the portions are much less, but I very much enjoyed the increased ingredient quality. You can taste the better cheese, but it's hard to argue that it's any healthier. The hot sauces were pretty good, I actually appreciated the fact you put them on yourself once you get the food. I would highly recommend this, but be aware seating is rather limited and guacamole servings are small. Much like Chipotle, you should probably just get a side of it. Check it out if you want some good quick eats, but don't expect the nap inducing satisfaction good Chipotle bowl or burrito will give you. At least your health will thank you. read more

I went to this place because they offer gluten-free options for my friend. When I walked into Dos Toros and walked up to order, I was immediately reminded of Chipotle. The menu options are very simple and not overwhelming, and it is not authentic Mexican--more like Tex-Mex. The prices are a bit pricey considering how affordable Mexican food can be; my boyfriend wanted to order the tacos, but it was $4 for one carne asada taco (I mean I have seen much more expensive tacos elsewhere). I ordered the quesadilla based on the description that described the crunchy tortilla and melted cheese, and the fact that I would get more for what I pay for. The toppings I chose were the carne asada (beef), salsa verde (not spicy), tomatoes, and guacamole. I was able to watch the guy, and then a girl, prepare my order. When I received my order, they rolled my quesadilla (gasp!) and it looked like a cross between a wrap and crispy burrito. Overall, the quesadilla did taste good and it was quite filling. I guess if I wanted it crispier, I could have asked since the employees were quite friendly. I would stop by again if I am in the neighborhood and want a quick bite to eat; however, there are many other restaurant and cuisine options in the area that I would probably visit before coming here. read more

This review is for delivery. I have not been to this place yet. The delivery was quite quick on a nasty night outside, so big plus for that. The food arrived hot, unfortunately, my wife ordered salsa on the side that did not arrive. I had tacos, wife had a quesadilla. All was quite tasty, the meat was well cooked (not dried out or overdone like frequently happens with tacos or quesadillas). The sauces were very good. The hot habanero was very flavorful with a lot of heat. I really liked the salsa verde as well. Will definitely try this place again. read more

This a good burrito, maybe even a very good burrito. It could use some better salsa a little but of loving, but it's the best burrito I've had in a year and half. By NY standards, which has a befuddling dearth of good Hispanic food, it's a great burrito. It's not quite the San Francisco burrito it calls after, and I dunno what you SoCal fools get up to it, but it really ain't bad. Dos Toros is a small, "Chipotle" style Mexican restaurant that in my opinion is about at the quality level of Chipotle. I got a burrito with carnitas, rice, black beans, lettuce, corn and mild salsa. When I was ordering I asked for them to put hot sauce in the burrito, but it seems it was forgotten. Burrito was packed very tightly, which was great because I had to eat it on the go. The issue was the burrito was very very bland, something that the hot sauce I requested would have probably helped with. I also had a stomach ache for the rest of the day, which I've never experienced from eating Mexican food before so I'm not really sure what that was about. Overall I think this is a great option for a work lunch or if you need something quick that you can eat on the go. read more

I had a burrito here. In short, I was offended. As I was walking to another establishment, I saw a sign that read 'Bay Area Inspired Burritos'. GIven that this was my first trip to Williamsburg, I thought perhaps I had happened upon something of note. So I walked in, excited to have a great burrito. I asked for a chicken burrito, and here is where the troubles began. First, there was no choice of tortilla...bad enough in and of itself, but certainly recoverable. Second, the burrito was never toasted...this in and of itself made it clearly not a Bay Area Inspired Burrito (which will henceforth be abbreviated to BAIB), but I continued to move forward with the experience. I think when I lost all hope though, was when I realized that a solid SLICE...a SLICE...of COLD CHEESE...was placed on the tortilla, and then the meat was placed on top of it...and this was to suffice as 'cheese'. There was no salsa...but there was 'hot sauce'? I don't think anyone in the Bay Area has ever asked if I wanted 'hot sauce' on my burrito. I'm not even sure that that's a concept that exists in the BAIB. I didn't realize that the cheese was on the burrito until I saw shredded cheese at the end of the assembly line and asked for some...and they asked if I wanted 'extra cheese'...I was confused having not realized that I ever had cheese on it in the first place. As one could imagine, when I finally bit into it, it was a confluence of awful. The meat wasn't very good at all, the temperatures were entirely inconsistent, given the room temperature tortilla, the ice cold cheese, and the (to its credit) warm meat. I used to love you. I really did. I ate here or ordered delivery all the time - even though your delivery was notoriously slow - because our love was real. But you've changed. In the last few months, everything tastes sub-par and your food has made me sick TWICE. It's like you don't even care about what we used to have. The rice is always dry and cold now, just like our feelings for each other. When I order the bowl, you don't even put the beans on top of the rice anymore! Very good, but room for some improvement. I've had the grilled chicken and the grilled steak burritos, and the chicken is better. The most impressive thing about this place is that the ingredients taste very fresh and wholesome (they use freebird chicken ... not sure about other meats). I agree with the criticisms of the tortillas... they need to be pressed longer... another big complaint is the fact that you can only get regular sliced peppers on your order... You gotta have jalapenos available! It would also be nice if re-fried beans were an option. f you have spent any time in Boston, this place is very similar to Ana's and while Dos Toros is less flavorful than Ana's, Dos Toros uses far healthier ingredients. read more

This place is reminiscent of chipotle but with their own flavor. In my opinion a better flavor. The meats are top quality and well cooked. The burritos and bowls have some depth to them and you will definitely get your fill. They have different level of hot sauces and don't say before you get guacamole "that will be extra". I would give this place a 3.5. To me this reminds me of chipotle and even though I am not huge fan of it either I must say I like it a little better than dos toros. The food is good and I usually get the burrito bowl that comes with yellow rice, beans, onions and peppers, chicken, sour cream, and tomato salsa. The tacos are good too as you make it how you like. Dos Toros is a great option for good food on the go. Unfortunately, it seems like in the past year the quality varies. The once avocado-heavy guacamole has transitioned to something like salsa with a hint of avo flair.
