Be warned that the Inferno wings are extremely hot. There's habanero peppers in the sauce; I can taste the slightly sweet and yet extremely hot goodness. About a third of the way into the basket of wings the spiciness hit me. I drank almost a half gallon of water with the rest of the wings in the basket. The wings here are damn near perfect. The wings were not over-breaded and it was a sublime combination of crispy fried wing with sauces that are hot but not salty at all (butter is often the thickener in buffalo wing sauce). I hear that Wednesday is all you can eat Wing night! Sadly, I wasn't there on a Wednesday, so I can't review the wings. I did have the signature Double Decker, but was disappointed. I've had much better elsewhere. The burger was big and greasy as expected, but for some reason, it just didn't do it for me. Maybe it was just TOO big?? What drew me into this place was the fresh cut and cooked potato chips! You don't see that every day. The other fried potato options were just OK too. The wings were well-prepared and tasty, which, really, is the most important (i.e. Useful) thing to know. The "hot" sauce was mild on the first couple bites but then built up and brought some heat. The included celery, ranch, and bleu cheese were nice touches. I was very disappointed that the fries were overcooked and tough; I was counting on them to counter the spicy sauce. Unlike the wings, they did not reheat well, either. (I had hoped nuking them would soften and improve the fries; no luck.) The delivery process was fine. Had to speak slowly when placing the order, though. My food arrive in 40 minutes, which fit the 30-45 minute timeframe I was quoted. Sad excuse of an eatery. Came here to try the wings. Given that I'm a wings connoisseur, I don't blame this place too much. But: We ordered the inferno and hot. There's no depth in flavor. There's not enough butter in the hot sauce for the sauce to cling onto the wings. Meat was dry and wilting like they've been pre-cooked and dried out for hours and then quick fried to serve. Tonight I discovered two things about myself. The first thing I had already known somewhat, but the second thing surprised me. I'll elaborate more in just a bit. I stopped by Double Decker tonight. I have seen this little restaurant in passing, and I always assumed it was the motel restaurant of the Days Inn located next door. That's not the case at all, and thanks to Yelp and some very positive reviews I decided I wanted to try the burger here. I ordered the Double Decker Burger and a small side of French Fries. There's a photo of the burger posted by the restaurant in the photo section on Yelp, and I recalled it looked delicious. It turns out that burger looks exactly like it did in that photo. Two beef patties (they use Niman Ranch beef here), pickle slices, a lettuce leaf and both American and Swiss cheeses melted on top of the meat served in between a fresh seeded hamburger bun with just a slather of mayo on the bun. Normally it comes with onions and tomatoes also, but I wasn't in an onion mood and asked to have it omitted. Fresh tomato was cautiously left off due to the recent bad tomato episodes outside of California. What'd I think? It was a very good burger, and with each hot, juicy bite I could feel my arteries harden. The fries were just a bit oily but excellent with a nice crispy exterior surrounding hot, meaty potato in the middle. Discovery Number 1: There's an old Chinese saying that my parents use to use on me that loosely translates into, "The belly is full, but the eyes are not." In other words, I'd be completely stuffed, but the sight of more food left me wanting more. So there I was eating my burger as other patrons walked in to order Double Decker's Buffalo Wings. I witnessed others enjoying these wings outside the restaurant, and I came to the conclusion that I had to try some wings too. After I finished off my burger and fries I got up and ordered a half dozen Buffalo Wings. The wings come in three degrees of heat - mild, hot and inferno. Now I knew I couldn't handle really spicy foods, but I was certain I could handle something labeled simply as hot. Discovery Number 2: I found out what a real wuss I am when it comes to eating Double Decker's "hot" Buffalo Wings because those wings left me sniffling and teary-eyed. Dripping with a tangy, spicy sauce those wings were explosive. I cried my way through the entire half dozen and happily enjoyed it. Yes, I'll be back. But the next time they see me here I'll take my wings on the mild side. What's better you ask? The burgers or the wings? My opinion ... you can't go wrong with either choice! read more

If you happen to stay at the Days Inn on Grove near Gough, you'll be happy to know right at the end of the wing, you BY GOSH, can get WINGS. and not just any wings, if its Wednesday night, you can get ALL YOU CAN EAT wingfest! ($12) this goes on from 4pm to 8pm. And to seal the deal, theres Happy hour from 4-6pm with 25% off sides and drinks. btw, Onion rings and fresh cut fries are great. mos def! I don't know how it might be for some, but for me, that's quite a deal there. and with the cheap beers (Happy Hour = $2.25) I had a blast scarfing myself down with chicken wings. and might I suggest the hot ones since it tends to be more moist and saucy. Mild is great,but it's a little bit on the crispy side and the meat is drier. Definitely better than Original Buffalo Wings hands up. Although the spot is quite small with two weirdly end shaped rooms, it does make for a cozy setting and you'll have to come early to get the seats if you have a large party. The service is great too! They let us pay for 9 beers for happy hour but hold on till later past 6pm to get them. One of the guys even gave us a free beer for letting him use the bathroom first. Good food, good company, friendly people, cozy seting, yes! I think I'll have to come back again next time and get more of the sides too like the fresh cut chips! read more

I placed my order at 7:17PM, did not get my confirmation until 8PM and did not hear from Double Decker until I called to check the status of my order, at which point they told me deliver would be another hour and a half. It's disrespectful to not communicate the fact that delivering a meal is going to take more than 2 hours and 15 minutes and waiting for the customer to call in to update them. I never had the chance to experience the quality of the food because I was unwilling to wait that long for dinner. I hope they're more respectful of other people's time in the future. read more

It was a Sunday, so maybe they weren't expecting a large-ish group of people to suddenly appear out of thin air, but if it's on your menu, and I order it, I want you to make it. They apparently use Mitchell's Ice Cream, the best ice cream in the city despite what you hipsters might say, so I was immediately interested. I ordered, and was simply told "no." The home made chips are fantastic and not greasy at all. The manager was rude. The girl at the counter was incompetent. When they forgot to add our drinks, which I didn't mind paying for, they said that there was a $5 minimum charge (which is illegal btw). All in all my order was over $30 for 2 burgers and fries. They refused to take my payment for 2 canned sodas. When I had enough of the attitude and lack of care, I requested my money back, they refused to issue a refund. Simple. Tasty. Quick. Double Decker is really delicious and perfect for what it does. This place is literally the antithesis of Flipper's burgers just a couple blocks away on Hayes. Instead of many gourmet burgers, DD has like 4 really well done simple burgers. I have to say that on a purely burger level, this place reminds me of a favorite place back home called the Owl (which also does a really amazing simple burger). The meat patty here is slightly thin and cooked just right. Then it's loaded up with a good portion of toppings and handed off. It's just hard to describe it any other way. I've grown tired of our current repertoire: asian, pizza, or cheesesteak, and Double Decker delivered for free within their ETA of 30-45 minutes. For dinner, we ordered an original hamburger w/ american cheese, a western burger, some buffalo wings, and macaroni salad (yes, we're weird). I wasn't crazy about the wings, but B liked them a lot...said they reminded him of the five cent wings he ate back in the day. Something like that. There's something to be said about offering a small amount of menu items, but doing them right. Focus is a good thing. Double Decker is an example of sparse menu, but well done items. Burgers and chicken wings; that's what you get. The burgers are made from Niman Ranch beef, served with the usual condiments. We opted for the spicy chicken wings and they came to us perfectly greasy, hot and dripping with spice. Bonus is they make their shakes with Mitchell's ice cream. Using good quality ice cream makes such a difference. The atmosphere at Double Decker is borderline bizarre. The kitchen/ordering area is located on the ground level of a seedy looking motel. There is a second dining area upstairs, but you have to walk up the motel stairs and by the rooms to get there. I guess this set up explains the Double Decker name of the place. If you're looking for a burger in Hayes Valley, it's worth it to walk to Flippers down the street. Milkshake: I had a sip of my friend's chocolate milkshake...me thinks not! It tasted like it was made from some powder or instant mix. Atmosphere: Attached to a Days Inn in a questionable area, it was a bit underwhelming. I couldn't see how this place could accommodate a lot of people. Service: I had met up with my friends late so they did all the ordering, but by the time I got there, some of them were just getting their food after waiting 35 minutes. For a burger or a chicken sandwich? Um, did they have to go out and slaughter the animal first? My friend who also arrived late tried to order a salad, and there was some drama because at first, the guy said they weren't taking more orders. The place was still supposed to be open though, so I don't know why this was such an issue. Overall, since I got there late, I didn't get to experience much of it first hand, when your 5 other friends are in a bad mood after experiencing the service, it makes you apprehensive to want to get more food, and it does affect your dining experience when your eating companions aren't happy. At the end, the guy who was working there seemed like he was trying to be more accommodating, but it got to that "there's been so much dramz that the chefs may spit in our food" point, and we just wanted to leave as soon as possible. Menu: Hmm, are there any healthy options? My friend got a salad, but it was mainly iceberg lettuce and cheese from what I saw. It's San Francisco in the 21st century. At least try to sprinkle in a few leaves of romaine. I guess maybe I should have had wings instead of a burger, since that's what people seem so excited about, but I didn't. I had the California Burger, with swiss cheese and avocado. Complaint #1: The whole burger tasted so much like nothing that I actually had to open it up and check if there were any condiments in place, much less the ones I had ordered. It was all there, just somehow magically rendered completely bland. Complaint #2: The guy who took my order didn't ask me how I wanted it cooked. I didn't realize it until I was eating and the thing was cooked a bit beyond where I like it. I guess I could have volunteered the information if I'd thought of it, but I think it's standard for the order-taker to ask about that kind of thing. I ordered like 6 burgers through DoorDash. 1.I ordered my Original burger well done and I got medium rare. I can't eat this I threw it away. 2.My co-worker ordered the California Burger medium rare, she got really rare..she ended up throwing it away. 3.My boss ordered Onion Rings, she received FOUR onion rings, I shit you not..FOREAL!!!! Too bad I couldn't refund b/c it was through DoorDash, not a even a SORRY. I will not be ordering from here again. read more
