My husband chose this place since he heard the burgers were good and they offered a variety of salads for me. Upon parking I immediately identified this place as a dive...it's located on the corner of a motel I certainly have never noticed in the heart of Hayes valley. Against my very instincts, I ordered the small cobb salad, and since the building is round and all the seating faces the kitchen, I could see the "chef" making my salad. On what looked like a 5x8" cutting surface (the prepping area was completely cluttered) he chopped up fake cheese, spotty brown avocado, and two huge hard boiled eggs, placed them on top of some lettuce and topped it with a store bought salad dressing. Might I add, the kitchen was repugnantly dirty and unkept. I mean - the fake terra cotta floors were black. I was presented with the most unappetizing array of a meal. Needless to say, I could not bring myself to eat it. After reading that Double Decker's burger was on Thrillist's "best under the radar" burgers in SF, a few friends and I decided to give it a try. We came by last Friday afternoon during happy hour, and the place (small as it is) was decently busy. The service, I will say, was excellent. My friend dropped her bottle of Corona and they brought her a new one. And of all the food, the onion rings were the best. My double-decker burger was fine, but nothing special. My friends' classic burgers were the same. The garlic fries were barely garlicky and the sweet potato fries, like the garlic fries, got soggy very fast. It's such an unassuming place, located attached to the Days Inn, but I really thought it might be our new go-to, "secret" spot. In a pinch, I'd go back (I'd love to try the Hawaiian burger), but there are so many great burger places in SF that - given a choice - I'd check out many others first. read more

We're hungry and wandering the streets one afternoon and stumbled across this place saying to ourselves "oh yeah! The ol' Days Inn Burger Joint! Let's give it a go!" So we did! The owner was there training a new girl who was a little unsure of herself and shy, but a sweetheart nonetheless. No one else was there. We went upstairs, to the upper deck you might say, and had the place to ourselves. The owner brought our food up and accidentally brought an extra order of fries we didn't order, but he gave them to us anyway and ran back down to, totally unnecessarily, refund us our $2.and some change. I appreciate Double Decker's offerings but if I were to pay over $7 bucks for a burger I'd definitely choose Pearl's over Double Decker. I ordered the buffalo burger, which is a cheeseburger with swiss cheese and buffalo wing sauce, plus typical burger fixings. It was a good concept, but if I were to do it myself I would probably grill the patty with the sauce because it dripped too much off the lettuce. I can't claim to make this my new go to burger place because, one, I am visiting San Francisco Francisco for an event. :P But, after trying several bites, I do like the taste of their burgers. Tried the original burger and the fish fillet and they both had textures of other well known establishments like 5 guys and the counter. The fries are extra crispy on the outside and savory. Great burgers and amazing shakes! I was staying at the Days Inn that shares a parking lot so I picked this place because it was super close. I was alone with my three kids, preschooler and younger so they were in my enormous stroller which took up about half of the downstairs seating area. There is a bench outside but it was occupied so before I had a chance to wonder where I was going to squish my kids in so we could eat, the guy behind the counter started moving the tables and making space. He assured me that there was a upstairs seating so I didn't have to worry about taking up all of his space. The food was amazing, I thought it seemed pricey but I didn't expect it to be so good. They use local, hormone-free meat and the shakes were fresh enough that I got a few chunks of berry in mine. The guy behind the counter also asked if I wanted to divide the two shakes I ordered amount my three kids and made sure to slice the burger I got for the older two to share for them. He also stocked me up on napkins and condiments for the to-go bag since so mentioned that we were staying in the motel. No complaints from me or my little ones at all. read more

I was really hoping to give 5 stars but my food arrived completely cold. I understand that when you have food delivered, it's not going to be piping hot, but this food was luke warm at best. I actually had to reheat it in my toaster oven. Assuming the app is accurate in tracking delivery drivers, both Jovid, who was supposed to deliver my food, but for some reason did not, and Utkir, who actually delivered it, spent a solid 20 mins stalled in the western addition for some reason. This was after I was alerted they were on their way to my place. It took 79mins to receive my food after ordering, and it was cold upon arrival. I remember this place being really tasty, so hopefully this was just an off day, as for today however, I paid 32$ for cold food after 79 minutes of waiting. read more

I work nearby and decided to give this place a try. I arrived around 12:30 and no customers were there, which I thought was strange. I ordered my Original Burger, paid, and was told to take a seat. There are only a few tables in this small joint, so choosing a seat wasn't too difficult. One of the tables was occupied by, (who I believe), an employee. He was on his laptop. I was happy to witness that they started grilling my burger after I ordered. (As opposed to having it precooked and only warming up the meat.) There were a few people who came to pick up orders. So if you can, and have your heart on trying this place, my bet it to eat-in or pick-up. I would NOT have it delivered, (only b/c of the bad reviews from others). I ordered my Original Burger to be w/o mayo or onions, which is exactly what I got. The meat was hot so I had to wait a little for it to cool down. The fries were definitely those frozen in the bag type of fries, but they at least fry it to crisp perfection. It's located right next to the motel, and it seems like most of it's business comes from UberEats/Postmates. Unless there's a deal, then I probably would not recommend trying it. We came upon this little hole in the wall gem as we were looking for something to eat before going to the symphony. It's a very tiny little place but the flavor surely makes up for the size. The burgers were big and juicy, like run down your fingers juicy! The fries were nice and crispy on the outside & soft on the inside, perfection! The staff is very kind and helpful. It's definitely a neighborhood joint. The cherry on top was the fact that they sold Mitchell's Ice cream, so we got a scoop before we left. QUICK REVIEW: Best wings I've had in San Francisco. Crispy with good heat without being sour. Go for the all-you-can-eat or happy hour specials. The owners are very friendly too. If you're not going to eat a lot, then the 1/2 price dozen wings during happy hour (M-F 3-6pm) is a great deal. The wings are on the small side but I suppose it's not a big issue when it's all-you-can-eat. They were nice and crispy, which is how I like them, but they are heavily sauced so the crispiness goes down a bit if you let them swim in the sauce for too long. I started with the inferno, which was surprisingly spicy. It had a good flavor without being overly sour, which is problem with a lot of wing sauces. I've had hotter wings before, but these were pretty spicy. After I finished my original 13, I decided to try the hot. These were OK but the inferno had more flavor, so I went back to the inferno. Called the restaurant and spoke with a woman named Amy(sp?) and she stated she could not refund me the money. So I then called Eat24 and asked them to intervene. The setting? 10 yelpers sitting around a table taking full and complete advantage of DD's Wednesday Night Special - all-you-can-eat-wings for $11.95. There is no end to Double Decker's awesomeness. It took over the old sushi joint some time ago and turned this extension of the Day's Inn into a shrine for wing worshipers. The wings come in three degrees of spicy: mild, hot and inferno, with that perfect blend of crunchy skin and tender insides. Fries and Niman Ranch hamburgers are also on the menu. Attached to the side of a Days Inn, Double Decker isn't a standout by any means, but they do deliver a solid burger, and a mean basket of wings. It's an odd shaped venue, with a u shaped first floor and a few tables hugging it's edges. "It tastes like...burning!" -Ralph Wiggum Okay, so it didn't exactly taste like burning, not at first anyway, but the inferno wings sure do pack some heat in there. On first bite you'll think to yourself that it's not so bad and that the people getting up every 2 minutes for more water are just wimps. However, this heat creeps up on you, and next thing you know you're only trying to finish the damn thing in order not to look like a wuss. They're good though, and I can see their addictive properties. Definitely not complaining. The hot wings also live up to their name, and I ate several of those. Blue cheese dressing is served as a dip, as are celery sticks for cooling purposes. The fries are pretty good - slightly crispy with the skin still on. They reminded me of a somewhat thicker version of In-n-Out's fries but more irregularly-shaped. It wouldn't surprise me if they've never been frozen. However, I'd definitely forgo the burger ($5.95, no sides) next time - they do advertise Niman Ranch beef and while I'm sure they're not lying, I found the beef a little bland and the color slightly unappetizing. I can get something yummier from In-n-Out for cheaper. No fountain soda, but they do have beer so it balances out. I like the upstairs area that can be reserved for groups, though I'd imagine if you weren't sitting up there it'd be hard to eat in as the space downstairs is very limited. Some of the wings and the occasional fry had these weird stringy packaging material attached to them - at first I thought it was hair, but the consistency was different enough to where I'm pretty sure it wasn't. However, it was a little gross, and it's the reason it's a 3 - after all, I'm not going to seriously penalize a wings joint for not having a good burger. We were all talking about wings the other day, and someone mentioned Double Decker. So, naturally, I had to go on over and check them out. Doubler Decker replaced Zoya's and takes over that very funny space in the Days Inn. The service is pretty basic at DD -- order downstairs, walk outside and up the stairs and hang out in the dining room. The nice folks who work at DD will bring you your food when it is ready. Since this was my first time I ordered a small batch of inferno wings, and a basic burger & fries. The Burger and Fries were decent. DD's burger patty is a pretty basic neiman beef patty. The fixings on the burger were basic: lettuce, tomato, onion. The patty felt a bit dwarfed by the bun and fixings. The fries were okay too -- even a little bit crunchy, which I like. Something was a bit amok with their ketchup -- perhaps it is hunt's intead of heinz? Putting it on my fries I had one of those "this is not the usual ketchup moments." I actually started dipping my fries in the wing dressing... And speaking of the wings -- I ordered them "inferno" style. Now, I am *not* the person to ask about levels of spiciness. My brother says when people ask me that sort of question there should be a sign under my face that says: "Professional Driver. Closed Course. Do Not Attempt." So, when I say that the wings were pleasantly spicy, you can calibrate that remark for yourself. ;-) The wings are your basic traditional buffalo-style preparation. Butter & Crystal sauce. I believe that the "inferno" variation adds several shakes of cayanne pepper to the mix. This makes for a nice spicy-on- the-tongue-as-well-as-the-back-of-the-throat feeling. The wings come with celery and nice thick blue cheese dressing for dipping. If you need plenty of wings to make you happy, they have all you can eat wing nite on Wednesday. A burgers and hot wings place attached to the Days Inn in Hayes Valley, where you place your order for various artery-clogging cravings downstairs and go upstairs to find a table in the little room with 240 degrees of windows? But I must say, they could have done a few things righter to win that 4 or even 5 star review in my book. 1. We got our Caesar salad in a plastic takeout box with a little plastic container of out-of-the-bottle watery dressing. Maybe just maybe we shouldn't have expected a good salad from a burgers and hot wings joint, but I could have used a real plate. And creamier dressing. And a few shavings of parmesan. 2. Silverware. Even at diners we get to eat with real silverware, instead of plastic forks. 3. Something aside from KOIT over the speakers. I mean, sometimes I do want to eat hot wings to Love Songs with Delilah. But most of the time, I don't. 4. Too much sauce on them wings. A smidgeon less will do, and get them a little more crispy in the deep fryer. Still, I will likely be back.
