Sorry, but the customer service single-handedly makes this a 1 star establishment. The guy who works here is a total asshat, he will get upset if you order food or if you walk into the place. I walked in about 10 minutes to closing and ordered 1 slice, and the [owner?] greeted me with nothing but sheer disappointment on his face. After the transaction, I sat down at 10:52, 8 minutes to closing. The owner then walked over and told me to leave because he had to close up. As someone who works in the food industry, I understand it's late and that clean up can be a hassle, but his tone really ticked me off. My bad bro, I'll make sure next time not to come inside to save you the hassle. Pizza tastes ok, but the price isn't great. There are better options within crawling distance. Stay away from this place, if the homeless outside didn't lure you away then the customer service at this place will for sure. Garbage waste of life. read more

Boy do I miss East Coast Pizza. Having lived in Ohio for the last 10 years and make sure that when I come back to New Jersey I have to have pizza. And instead of going to one of those chains, I try to support local business businesses and get that real East Coast taste. Douglas pizza and I have a long relationship. But I haven't had them in several years. The location was very convenient and easy to walk to. I would not suggest driving as there's not really any parking. The location has plenty of seating, is clean and everyone is friendly. My pizza was made to order and you can see him making it behind the counter. My pizza was ready quickly and I paid unless without any issues. Inside, there are several different types of pizza on display so that you could order by the slice. I ordered an extra large pepperoni pizza and it ran me about 21 bucks. It was a lot of pizza! I was able to feed four adults and one child with extra to spare. This is very college-y directed, meaning late hours and cheap food. Unfortunately if you aren't in college and things like quality are more important than having late night munchies, there didn't seem to be a lot to offer. I ordered 2 slices of pizza and a Coke, and the cashier just pointed to the side where a drink case was. Some places also offer bottles and fountain drinks, but not here, and they won't even say "oh the drinks are over there." Whatever, grabbed a table, one other family did. They shouted out "pepperoni pizza!" so I went to go pick it up, but they brought the food to to the other family. The pizza was okay, it was really thin, which isn't my preference. It just feels flimsy. Since we ate in, I also noticed the artwork all looked like it had been picked up at a thrift store, all very tacky and non-related looking pieces. I wish I had taken a picture. It might not bother others, but it just seems like "we just threw any old crap on the walls" with no thought doesn't seem like the place really is trying to create an inviting atmosphere (between the decor and unfriendly staff). If I was a college kid living in walking distance, I'd still come here to pick something up on late nights. For anyone not in that niche group, you can find better pizza in town. read more

Stopped in for pizza and the guy who works there is horrible with no customer service experience. I asked could be open the bathroom and he threw his hangs in the air. A woman with a child waiting for her food asked for bathroom and he lied and said they don't have one. He had the worst attitude and shouldn't be a servant for the people. Food is okay nothing fabulous. It took 30+ minutes to get an order of 3 garlic knots, a slice, 6 piece wings and french fries. Everyone around me was getting their food and it wasn't until I got up to ask about my order when they said the wings are still being cooked... It was $14 for the entire order. My order of a slice and garlic knots was sitting on top of the oven for the entire time since all they had to do was heat it up. I've been here a couple of times more so for convenience than the food. In those times I've had two pizza slices, cheese burger and fries,buffalo chicken cheese steak and chicken fingers with fries. It is a pizza spots so your not getting the best quality foods. Nothing to brag about but the food is ok. The price is more than I like every time I go to the register it rings up more than what it says on the tv menu. The slices were fine, nothing to complain about. My cheeseburger was ok, no real taste in the meat. It had lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and mayo that's were the taste comes from. The bun was toasted but the edges were burnt which I didn't like. They don't watch it closely on the grill. The French fry quality is on the low end not that good just something to add with your meal. The chicken cheese steak was good but the roll was a little hard. When I bite into it it cut the inside of my mouth a little. Didn't look to appetizing when coming out look like something thrown together. Left to cool, the bread falls apart and everything spills to the side. Chicken fingers was my latest meal and I got this because I wanted something around the five or six dollar mark. For the lunch special it's around six and some chance and comes with a drink. Even though it not lunch time I figure it can't cost much more. When I got rung up it came to $9.20 for something that looks like a kids meal. The chicken fingers and fries are sold separate and not a meal. For that price I would expect more. I was displeased with the quantity. It's says half a pound of chicken fingers on the menu and it certainly was not. Once again fires are nothing to brag about, if they would let me provide a video. I have one we're my fries are just stuck together in a ball when trying to just pick up one. I will provide pictures of the burger and tenders. Got a cheeseburger and frenchfries. The burger was not proportionate to the stuffing inside of it. The fries were fine for a quick bite, I ordered take out so it was ready within 5-10 mins. Douglas Pizza and Grill is located directly beneath the Rockoff Hall complex on George Street. There is not much as far as street-front parking is concerned, but there are meter spots further down the street and parking for Rockoff around the side of the building. The establishment has a moderately large seating area and a good variety of beverages to choose from. There is also a good selection of different toppings to choose from at the counter. My apologies for not taking a picture before partially devouring the plain slice. I almost forgot to grab a picture entirely. Anyway, the plain slice had a nice, crispy base with good quality cheese and sauce. The crust was fluffy and delicious. The cheese steak slice had just the right amount of steak. I was thankful they kept the tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese because it really helped shape the flavor nicely. The slices were both very consistent with both their cheese to tomato sauce ratio, the crispiness of their base, and fluffiness of their crust. I am very happy with the quality and consistency of these slices. A plain slice will run you around $1.75. Nothing extraordinary, slightly flavorless. A pepperoni slice is $2.25. I had to load my slice up with all sorts of powders and pepper flakes just to make it taste like anything. I couldn't even taste the cheese. BUT - and this is a big "but" - they have some of the best garlic knots I've ever tasted. Such a simple dish but some places can royally screw it up. $1.50 ($1.61 with tax) gets you five garlic knots and marinara sauce. Delicious. Definitely college food... cheap, delicious college food. They also serve chicken sandwiches, burgers, fat sandwiches, pasta, gyros, all that good stuff. I find their pasta to be slightly overpriced but I wouldn't idulge in that here anyway. read more

Yuck...Douglas Pizza was never good when I went to Rutgers and it hasn't changed in the last five years years. The pizza is always greasy and always has a bad taste. I think it's a combination of a bad sauce and bad cheese. Also, their fat sandwiches were bad too. Had a slice of eggplant and ricotta and mushroom cheese, both pretty tasty and has that nice thin crust and crispness to them that I love. Not overly saucy and lets the toppings and cheese be the star. Best aspect was taking care of my son with a custom side order of spaghetti and meatballs which they served on an actual plate since we were eating in. Service gets 6 stars from me, staff was friendly and accommodating and best of all for a great price. Definitely a college staple of the area, wasn't sure what I was getting into based on the outside since its in sort of a strip mall building near campus but inside feels like a great local pizza joint. read more

I ordered a sandwich and fries, a price of over $10, and they tried to give me a handful of soggy fries INSIDE the sandwich rather than fries with the sandwich. I politely asked for clarification of this, and the staff immediately got very angry and kicked me out of the store. I'm currently a broke, college student about to enter his Senior year at Rutgers, so naturally Im going to gravitate toward pizza joints. Douglass pizza is a relatively cheap and convenient place to eat, especially if you live upstairs in the Rockoff Hall Apartments (which I do). Their pizza is slightly on the cheesier side, which is kind of bummer, but I don't mind too much because they're pretty large and filling for the price of about $2.25/slice with toppings and $1.75/cheese. I've also ordered their grilled chicken salad, ravioli, gyros, hamburgers, and buffalo wings, all of which are hard to mess up and they do a pretty good job at accommodating to your specific requests, for example, asking for light dressing or a lot of buffalo sauce on the wings. I would give the food about a 3.5 only because there isn't anything really special about their seasonings, it's pretty basic stuff. Plus, I'm more of a sauce guy when it comes to my pizza. Now, the reason why I rated this pizzeria a 3/5 stars instead of 4/5 is because of their one bearded employee. I've come in on multiple occasions where I would ask him simple questions about a particular dish and he'd give me a bunch of attitude. There is not a time I walk in where if I see him I do not feel uncomfortably annoyed. The other two chefs are really polite however which is why I stay coming back. It makes me feel bad because I'm not being ignorant on purpose, that's the reason why I ask questions and want to know more about what I'm eating. So, sorry bearded guy if I offended you. read more
