Always a great place for breakfast. They have a good menu and good service. It's a family fave.

Clean and delicious. I eat at the Loveland location more often. But it is nice to have the same great food and service at this ft collins location. Even with a small wait it is still worth it. I am a big eater and the breakfast burrito is almost too much for two people. Their sweets, pancakes, and French toast are amazing too. Their big giant griddle biscuits are great. read more

First time visiting Dougs Day Diner. We are visiting our friends from out of town + they highly recommended Dougs. We were so excited to try it! We were a pretty large party (4 adults and 3 children). We had called around 10:45am to see how long the wait was and put our name down on the waitlist. The hostess had told us about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. Awesome, no worries. We got there around 12:00pm and checked in with the hostess. They told us it wouldn't be much later. We ended up not getting a table until 2:00pm. First off, this was a bummer. We were all so hungry. BUT the reason why I'm not mad is because I was so happy to see this diner SLAMMED with customers. After the year we had, good for them!!! They had apologized more than once for the wait. Once we were seated, service was fast + great! I ordered the spicy Reuben and oh my gosh... it was SO dang good. I can't wait to come back here when we come in town next! P.s. Doug's is a large portion breakfast place. I visit about once a month and enjoy the large menu of fairly heavy breakfast items. If you are looking for something on the lighter side - yogurt cup etc... This place is not for you. Service is always good - long waits on the weekends. read more

Love this place. Staff is friendly, food is delicious. Try their griddle biscuits and homemade jam-so yummy. Their Roader breakfast burrito special with a drink included for $5 is the best deal in town. I always get one with bacon and Christmas chile (red and geen chile combined). I eat at Dougs frequently because of the great food and friendly staff! However today the gentleman who sat me was not friendly and argued with me because I didn't want to sit at the bar because I prefer a seat with a back on it and didn't want to sit at the table next to the hostess stand...I consider that table the worst seat in the house. I did get a table when it was all said-n-done that I liked in the back. I might add that there were 7 open tables! Should not have been a problem. I of course will keep eating at Doug's because out of all the times I have done so it was always a great experience except this one time. Also maybe that gentleman was just having a bad day. I rarely feel compelled to write reviews, and I have not even received my bill yet. This place is a must visit for a good old American Breakfast diner. Don't be fooled by the unassuming strip-mall location. The decor is clean and simple, but the food is amazing!! The 4 of us all had different breakfast meals including pancakes, eggs Benedict, country-fried steak & eggs, and huevos rancheros. Everything was homemade like giant biscuits, country gravy, & AMAZING ranchero sauce. They are also offering socially-distanced dine-in service in their spacious dining space, which is a huge plus during COVID! Our massive meals cost us all under $10 each. I have eaten at the Dougs in Loveland it was good. Have since moved to FtCollins and was happy to find a Dougs up here. I have had bad luck with bkfst places near the Harmony and Lemay area. At checkout I was going to be charged a convenience fee?? The tip I would normally give the cashier on a carryout order is now being taken by Doug because I cant to pay a tip and a "Cover Charge" to get my bkfst.... is there a two drink minimum as well???? Diners directly evolved from food trucks back in 1858 in Providence, Rhode Island when the hungry masses were able to purchase meals from covered horse-drawn wagons. As the lunch wagons grew in popularity, they also grew in size, providing a place for patrons to stand inside and eat. Wagon vendors became such a successful business, they lined the streets, forcing cities to pass ordinances to restrict their locations and hours of operation (wow, does this sound familiar). To get around these regulations, wagon owners converted their businesses into semi-permanent locations. Around this time, street cars were evolving as well with the introduction of electricity, and many wagon businesses switched to using old street cars as restaurant structures. Thus, creating the classic "rail car" diner we were familiar with up until the 1940s. The Depression was a time that diners flourished because they served inexpensive classic comfort foods. They are still popular today for the very same reason. While we've seen the business structures evolve throughout the 150-year history, the food has pretty much remained the same - simple breakfasts, coffee, sandwiches and grilled burgers - American food at its core. Fort Collins isn't short on diners. We even have some that have been around for over 50 years. But, on August 4, 2011, we welcomed Doug's Day Diner as the newest place to serve a hearty and inexpensive breakfast and lunch. Doug's Day Diner is located in Front Range Village in the same location that the now-closed Le Peep left behind. This is the second location for owner Doug Weckerly, with the first going up in Centennial almost exactly a year ago. At every restaurant in town, the bacon is all the same. Never in my dining experiences have I come across bacon slices that were not only different, but shockingly better than any bacon I've ever had before. These were thick-cut (with six slices weighing about a pound), uncured, baked and fried. The thick, rich crunch of the slice was intoxicating. If you do not like anything else on the menu, the bacon alone is a reason to come. Our server told us that it was the same bacon served at the Waldorf Hotel (I could not confirm nor deny this), and Doug himself came to our table to chat about the challenges of getting this bacon in Fort Collins. Apparently, it was not an easy task! Restaurants are continually evolving as time goes on. Even in today's age, we're seeing history repeat itself with food trucks converting to semi-permanent structures (just look at what's going on in Portland, Oregon) and a growing interest in family-owned diners due to our tough economic state (much like the Depression). Doug's Day Diner is taking those historical roots and building upon them with quality foods, offering items you can't find anywhere else in Fort Collins. read more

A friend introduced me to this fabulous place and I can't stay away. The have amazing breakfasts! And if you get biscuits with jam the jam is homemade and delicious. Staff is very friendly. Hummm... where to begin? This place just opened where Le Peep was in the Council Tree plaza with Super Target. My husband came home from work the other day and asked if I had any time off from work this weekend. He told me that a co-worker had been to Doug's and was raving about the huge portions and over all tastiness. Lucky for me- I had Sunday off. We decided to hit it up. Upon walking in I was a little disappointed that they had not done much to change the Le Peep atmosphere or make the place feel "dinerish" at all... yeah- I did just say "dinerish" But- that's not going to stop me from trying to jam as much breakfast in my mouth as possible. We were told there was 15 minute wait and headed out front to avoid the hordes of octogenarians that were also waiting for a seat. Seeing at least 6 tables of people leave we headed back in to wait... Not once... twice... nope... not even three times... but 5 times we were asked "what's your name again?" After the 5th time the bubble headed teenager asked us- "do you wanna sit here?" motioning to the bar/counter. We said no and that we would wait for a table. Three minutes later we were asked if we would like to sit "on the patio" and "whats the name again?" We took the patio and were escorted outside to a table next to some people with bags of to go food. This- is not a patio. It was the public seating in the back of the restaurant. Whatever- at least I don't have to sit next the grandma who doused herself in White Diamonds. Ten minutes after being sat on the "patio" we saw a waitress come out. She was very sweet and soft spoken and asked what we would like- I got a coffee and a water and ordered a breakfast burrito. "Oh" said the nice woman dressed in pink. "Have you heard about the problem with the hash browns? The problem being that we don't have any?" DUDE. SERIOUSLY? Well... awesome. If you knew me at all you would know that I am the carb QUEEN and that I live for all things potato. So- I changed my order... I got a "cowboy whimpie". This is supposed to be hash browns topped with various breakfast meats and cheese, an assortment of chili or gravy and eggs. I was intrigued by this because they were subbing in french fries for hash browns. I thought- "AHHH it will be like breakfast poutine!" My husband ordered the Vaquero. A breaded steak covered in green chili with pinto beans and should have been hash browns. The coffee was good and the food came out fast. My makeshift poutine was actually really really delicious. However- my hubs gave me a taste of his steak and I got the worst- almost putrid taste in my mouth. He liked it. I- could barely keep myself from spitting it out on the "patio" floor. To be fair- I am sick and therefore my taste buds are off so I am going to chalk the rankness of the country fried steak up to that... I went to the restroom in this visit also... the mens restroom... since the womens was out of order. Our drinks were on the house since we did not have the full menu to choose from. The waitress was courteous and apologetic. I will give this place another try... although, it will probably be during the week when there is more of a possibility that the high school staff will be in classes and there will be a full menu to choose from. read more

First want to say the service was fantastic, really friendly and warm staff. The atmosphere was well done, a unique take on a diner. I thought the menu had a nice blend of styles, a mix between Mexican meets comfort foods. I ordered a meatless breakfast burrito with all 3 of the sauces, red, green and gravy. It was rather disappointing and pretty bland. I feel like a breakfast burrito is a pretty easy thing to do well but it wasn't done well here at least what I ordered. Kinda over priced. Coffee burnt, which coming in bright and early did not think it should have been "sitting". 4 bucks for a watered down cranberry juice. Not a lot of bang for the buck here. With so many breakfast spots in foco won't need to come back to this place. I got the basic. 2 eggs, bacon, toast and browns. Potatoes tasted like dirt. As if they did not clean them at all. Bacon was a curious texture, not crisp not soggy, but not good either. All in all, I would say avoid this place as it is not worth the price or the quality, especially with all the quality places that we have in town, there is not need to put the effort in this one. read more

Maybe this place was a little rocky when it first opened based on some of the other reviews, but now it seems they worked out the kinks. I live in Old Town so i'm hard pressed to come to the South side unless I have to and I know the breakfast places down on the south side are pretty slim pickins. I think I have been to all of breakfast places on the south side, in my opinion nothing compared to Old Town. The place was packed at 11am on Sat, 15-20 min wait. We sat by a couple who said they had come for lunch before and it was awesome so they came back to try the breakfast. They people on the other side of us were regulars. Not much for vegetarians (but come on, us vegie heads know the mods are as simple as saying hold the ham). The couple stock vegetarian dishes were great (we ordered the Sharon and the Skinny?! I think). A plus is they have the standard green chili which is made with pork broth so that was out, but also the red chili which was purely vegetarian and a little kick with had a nice flavor. The only thing that I wasn't that into was the biscuit. It was big but it was too dense in style. It wasn't your nice big flaky buttermilk type like the kick @ss ones at Lucilles. The apple butter tasted homemade and fresh so that was yummy (ask for double). Looks like they have thick slab bacon or something for the meat eaters which is pretty rare in Colorado- haven't seen it anywhere else in Denv/Boulder area. I didn't try any meat so I can't attest to the quality. Didn't try the white gravy either which is a usual breakfast quality meter. The coffee was just ok, not burnt or anything, just nothing super. They do have both flavored creamers and reg half and half which is a nice touch. The staff was your typical college kid staff, so nothing special regarding service to report. Not bad, not good. But there aren't alot of places up here with great service anyhow. Overall, this place was good and pretty tasty, and with huge portions cooked well I can see why it was packed. Great asset to the South side. I would come back for sure. 3/19/2012- Correction! We went there for breakfast again last weekend and upon ordering they said the Red Chile was NOT vegetarian. It's made with chicken stock. We told them that they said it was vegetarian when we came before and we ordered it based on that. They claimed their staff was all completely knowledgeable on the vegetarian items.... I fell in love instantly with Doug's Day Diner. For one I haven't been able to order much else but their healthy sandwich. It is a vegetarian sandwich which is to die for and has a nice spread of cream cheese with shaved almonds laid down on it. The side salads are also quite scrumptious and pieced together very nicely. The salad dressing is made of home made ranch dressing which you can tell that there is something else of an edge over it unlike the typical ranch dressings. I finally ordered on my third visit something else. I was in the mood for pancakes and ordered blueberry pancakes and got a nice size able portion with fresh blueberries. The syrup was awesome too! I am already a repeat customer here and look forward to many happy returns. On my second visit I noticed that two people were in looking at the menu and more or less went 'hmmmph' and left. What they wanted was the usual greasy and slimy diner food but Doug's is refreshing from all of that typical diner food so I don't know what was up with them! read more

My server, Jordan, was very friendly, polite, and responsive. She took good care of me. Unfortunately, the place was kind of messy, with more than a few dirty tables and floor areas. My burger was literally served on a miniature loaf of bread. That might have been kind of cool, but the bun was dry and falling apart. The patty was also dry. The cheese was supposed to be cheddar but it was processed American. The guacamole was really bland. My "fries" were tiny bits of potatoes that were overdone and very greasy. My new favorite breakfast place. Fort Collins offers many great breakfast places but I appreciate a different twist to this menu. Or maybe it's my weakness of hash browns.. Their Papas breakfast meals (hash browns and breakfast mixed together) is pure happiness. I also highly appreciate the half sized portions! I'm usually too gringo for red chili.. but don't be afraid of theirs. The spice level is just shy of medium and the flavor is through the roof tasty! Past Prime We've enjoyed huge breakfasts at Doug's since they opened. Now that they are "discovered" and always a wait on weekends, service is falling through the floor. When we show up to wait, most often there's no hostess at the station and you need to wait a few minutes to even hear if you're up for the wait. Today, a Saturday at 1, a few people were waiting. We thought we'd just eat at the bar. I asked a bus person nearby if it's OK to get food at the bar and avoid the wait. He nodded yes and motioned us to open seats there. We already knew what we wanted, but we waited 10 minutes while the "bartender" (a young woman with long blonde hair, in case management reads) had her back to us, intently flirting with two young men at the other side. We were patient, and then not, because we were hungry and it was ridiculous (intentional blow-off?). So we said "Excuse me?" She spun and coldly said, usually people are seated with menus by the host (so it was intentional). We had been seated by an overworked bus person just trying to direct traffic. She hadn't witnessed that. Even so, we did not deserve her irritation. It was clear we were a bother, so we left. Won't return. If you go in busy times, expect pandemonium. On the one hand, everyone is right about one thing: The portion control is OUT of control. These meals feed two easily, and you could stretch it to three without trying hard. On the two hand, the food is super delicious and it's all made fresh people, it's not going to taste like the processed and flash-frozen crap they serve at the chain breakfast places. The grilled biscuits are out of this world buttery and dense and tasty. Don't count the calories. To balance the biscuit, I had the Sharon veggie omelette, which was packed to the rafters with veggies and get this: sprouts. And not just a touch, a ton. The sour cream and guac in the omelette made it so the veggies didn't take over and make it a salad, so I was a happy camper - overall a tasty and fresh omelette. The hash browns were undercooked and dry, I'm not sure how that happened. I don't use ketchup, it's an insult to the food and the chef, so I had to hot sauce my browns. My sister had something that came with a few strips of their bacon, and you can tell they make their own. Super thick cut, lots of fat, and well seasoned. If you're a bacon freak you might want to try this place. A touch on the pricey side for breakfast, but like I said, they feed you today and tomorrow. We came at the late end of their hours at 1:00pm on a Sunday, so the place wasn't in tip top cleanliness and the wait staff was a bit worn out, but that's understandable. read more

You get what you pay for. The price of the food was reasonable. Staff was very friendly and the coffee was decent but that's about it. My husband had the breakfast burrito and I had their french toast. The burrito was bland, green chile tasted cheap and the red chile sauce was straight up gross. The french toast was really dry with no flavor. Maybe it's because are spoiled? There are great breakfast places here in Fort Collins. Unfortunately they are all in old town. I would highly suggest The Kitchen, Snooze and The Silver Grill. We would rather drive than pay money on food we aren't satisfied with. read more

I can't believe I just walked past this place for so many years. This is my new favorite restaurant in NoCo by far! Awesome (and interesting) menu, great service, huge portions and reasonable prices.
