The coffee is decent and the portions are ridiculous. Don't think twice about ordering a half portion, even though they call it a "Whimpy." The scratch kitchen is very accommodating. This is a regular breakfast stop for my wife and I about once a month. She has gluten sensitivity and a dairy allergy so we have to be pretty careful when we dine out. The staff at Doug's has always taken care of her by using fresh cracked eggs and even cleaning the griddle before sautéing her hash browns (in oil instead of butter, natch...). When we bring the kids, they love the pancakes which are large enough to double as a river raft should the need arise. It can get crowded, but most good places do! We try to get in before 9:00 during the week and have never waited more than 5 minutes. read more

Had to head to NoCo for some shopping and found this place via yelp. Quick and dirty: Yes its buried in a big shopping mall, strange location but not too hard to find Went on Sat ~11am, no wait LARGE portions, great for the value - also huge glasses for beverages which is a plus. Thick cut bacon is awesome! Only complaint was the seating, having a table RIGHT outside the kitchen door isn't good for anyone, that should be dead space not only so servers can move, but also so that table doesn't have to deal with the hustle and bustle. We have been coming to Doug's for many years. It's been a great place full of regulars and friendly staff. The past 6 months or so they have decreased the size of their pancakes, significantly. I'm sure this is a cost measure but that was one of the reasons we come so often. Additionally, the wait staff that used to be here were all transferred to the Windsor location, the new ones don't seem as friendly or knowledgeable as the old staff. Please bring back our good sized blueberry pancakes and some old staff. read more

Pretty good little place! The portions are HUGE for the price, which is always nice. The food is pretty good too. I had the Drizzle omelet (I got the small portion, and it was perfect for one person) with the hashbrowns and a biscuit with apple butter. The apple butter was pretty good, but the biscuit was a little dry! The hashbrowns, on the other hand, were delicious! I love the way they are cut. The omelet was pretty good, it was a bit strange to have a mix of all those flavors, but it was something new! The service was great - the servers were very attentive and kind. I liked this place, and probably will return! I just have mixed feelings about the meal I had, so I'll definitely try something different next time. read more

Go to Doug's almost once a weekend. My boyfriend and I enjoy the great food and the friendly service. I have been here many times before but our last visit was what convinced me to write a review. After sitting down and saying we were ready to order I think our waitress got the idea that we were in a bit of a time crunch. Food came out promptly and we didn't even have to ask for our check. Kaitie, our waitress had great timing and was quick and efficient in filling our coffee up, serving our food, and getting our check taken care. It's rare that you get a server who is observant and makes the effort to speed up the process without being asked. I have always loved this place, but I continue to be more and more impressed. I grew up in a small town, and Doug's feels like a small town restaurant that is almost a secret for anyone but the locals. Great great restaurant!!!!!! read more

I love Doug's Day Diner. I hear one may be coming to my hometown (Windsor, Co) and I'll likely have breakfast there once a week if the quality parallels the Fort Collins location. I always end up taking home leftovers because the portions are huge! I always order a biscuit and their homemade strawberry jam in addition to whichever breakfast I order. I can't speak to the lunch menu...I've only had the breakfast. Another add-on you will t regret is their house made gravy on top of anything. Dougs used to be one of my favorite breakfasts in Fort Collins. almost always get the Papas carne asada. Took a friend there yesterday that had never been there and ordered the same for him. This dish used to come with nice sized pieces of carne asada underneath the red or green chili and on top of the fresh made home fried. Instead what we be received was a mound of potatoes, two eggs and chilli for $11 bucks each. I found a few pieces or small bits of meat. Obviously a change made to save money and the meal is no longer anything like it used to be and way over priced. Good way to remove cost from the business, increase profits and all from the customers lose. Very disappointed. Won't be back. read more

Always a pleasant experience at Doug's. The coffee is always hot, the staff is always friendly, and the food is always great! Be prepared to wait if you go on a weekend for breakfast/brunch... My boyfriend and I ventured over at 11:00 AM on a Sunday morning and the wait for 2 was 45 minutes. We unfortunately had to make an appointment and were unable to wait, but returned on a Friday around 12:45 and there was no wait, and the service as quick. Doug's is one of those places that we always walked by. We kept hearing good things about it so we stopped in. The service was great. The food felt like home. If you left hungry, you didn't finish your meal. I enjoyed everything about it. I give it 4 stars for being a solid quality place to eat. My own mom is a great cook and I'd give her 4 stars as well. I have no complaints. One of my key measures of a restaurant is how often your drink goes empty. That would be not once. I wouldn't change anything here. We popped in here on a Sunday morning around 11 am. Parking was easy since this restaurant is in a outdoor mall. We had to wait about 20 minutes to get seated. That's expected for a breakfast place on a Sunday. The décor in here felt weird to me. It wasn't quite modern, it wasn't quite charming, it was just there. Some modern construction in here but some pictures on the wall to remind you of an older place with some history. I wasn't really a fan but I'm also not here for the décor. We tried the Mona Lisa and the Hillbilly Grub. The portions were massive and looked appetizing. Like grandma's cooking on Sunday morning. Okay, maybe just my grandma's cooking. Anyways, I liked the touch of thick cut bacon and overall, the meals tasted good. Wasn't Lucile's or Snooze but it was good, solid food and plenty of it. You will likely need a to-go box. read more

Tried this place for the first time today because there is one supposedly opening in my town of Windsor. I was excited for the new restaurant here, but now wish it were any other restaurant. Their food was flavorless. The biscuits were cold to the touch and the bacon tasted like bacon flavoring and was soggy. The food at Doug's was fantastic, but the ambiance left much to be desired. The portions are huge, so it is definitely a good value- the breakfast burrito was basically the size of my boyfriend's head and my modified huevos rancheros enough to fill an obese elephant. Yet it was so delicious that I basically shoveled it down, so I guess I can now answer to "obese elephant." I was craving, very specifically, huevos rancheros on corn tortillas with veggies and red and green chile and so guess what, that is what I asked for and that is what I was brought. It was so scrumptious. One little issue was that I asked for my eggs cooked really well, but the yolks were completely runny. One downside is that they only have black coffee- no caps or fraps or lattes. The coffee was decent, however. I am really unsure how to describe the building in which Doug's is located- it kind of felt like being inside a warehouse. I like breakfast establishments that feel like comfortable and homey diners. read more

I really want to like this place. Their green & red chile are very good. the rest of the food seems bland and the potatoes are barely warm and not "brown" as they call them. I got the carne adovada breakfast burrito... the pork was supposed to have been simmered in a red chile sauce, but it seemed to be just plain chunks of pork with no flavor. Also, an Arnold Palmer for 4 bucks??? geez - a John Daly I would understand.... if try can get their seasoning right and cook the "Browns" to brown I would go back. read more

Very tasty breakfast burrito with Carne Asada smothered in half red sauce and half green. The Carne Asada was tender and flavorful, the potatoes good, the eggs plentiful and fluffy all wrapped in a tortilla and smothered. This was my first time here so I got half and half on the sauce. The red was a creamy enchilada style sauce with a good flavor but not spicy, the green had even more flavor and a bit more kick, the combo made for a well rounded flavorful breakfast. Service was exceptional, they provide a bottomless drink and want to make sure you get your moneys worth by keeping it full and providing a full to go cup on your way out. I would not hesitate going to Doug's again when I am in the area. read more

I'm not usually one to find 'mall-like' establishments, especially for morning breakfast, but I had read other reviews and thought I'd try out Doug's Day Diner. Mostly because there's another one in Loveland, CO. not just Fort Collins. So I had to check this place out. I found it to be a place that deserves at least a second visit because I found the food to be fantastic. Great job guys! Other than the atmosphere which is covered with photography art all by one artist (at least at this location) this place has some excellent breakfast choices. A good clean environment there's one word that I think sums up the food...thick. The bacon is thick, the toast is thick and the portions are plentiful. Huge pancakes too mimicking the actual size of the large breakfast plate. The highlight of this place I believe is their incredibly awesome blackberry and strawberry homemade jams. Wonderful!! I could put them on everything! My experience was that the attentiveness by the waitress was good until wanting to leave. In fact, there were two of them and and I couldn't figure out who I actually left the tip for. It took about 10 minutes to cash out so I wouldn't recommend it if you are in a rush. That said, I definitely plan to go back at some point if my other two NoCo favorites are too busy. The parking is ample given its in a shopping center. read more

Doug's is a good place to eat breakfast. Ive eaten at a couple of their locations around Colorado and its always consistent. I appreciate the local and homemade items that they offer. Their hash browns/potatoes are excellent a must have with any meal. Their biscuit is not much of a biscuit unfortunately. Its a bit doughy and chewy, not typical biscuit terminology. My one gripe with this place is they ration the jelly like its world war one. A small, paper cup of a teaspoon of jelly just doesn't cut it. Bring me a JAR! I was going to give Doug's 4 stars until I found out they don't make their English muffins, another must try. They're good especially with the 2 grams of jelly you get on the side. Once we were seated the waitress came right by, got our order and the food was out fast. My scrambled eggs were cold in some spots and barely warm in others. That's odd to me especially we it's a decent amount. If your rounding out change as a server, you should round down. We went to Doug's in Loveland yesterday and it was great. The next day we were in Ft. Collins and were glad to see there was one there too. Two star costing problems here: they do not offer herbal tea and the fresh fruit I requested came as canned oranges. Service wasn't quite as friendly but it wasn't bad. read more

Awesome breakfast place after visiting three times for breakfast. Can't speak to the lunches. Everything we have has been really good although some dishes are just outstanding. Most everything made from scratch. Green chile is really good for Colorado fare (from NM so have the right to judge). They have a variety of creative omelette's and the carne asada is really good. Strawberry and raspberry jam is homemade and simply the best jam I have ever had. Portions are huge and easily can feed two and possibly still have some leftover. The only thing I have had here that I did not care for is the red chile but then I have usually don't like the red chile at most any establishment. Eat and enjoy. read more
