    OK Onion Burger
    Hagar A.

Very charming spot and easily accessible by transit. The staff is super sweet as well. The food wasn't the best. I ordered the Ok Onion Burger and everything came out more salty than I hoped. I paid $20 for burger and fries, which I thought is much to not include fries with the order.

We have been trying to come here for a year but can never get the timing right. They are so busy on weekends and during breakfast on random weekdays but my partner and I came here on a Wednesday at 1pm. No wait! This place is worth the hype, great southwest menu, reminded me of Austin, with subtle hints to El Paso, and Santa Fe. Great influences! I started with a sparkling water, a cold brew, and we shared Al pastor fries. The fries were flavored with Al Pastor, a served with a mayo (maybe chipotle). They were very tasty. I got the traditional breakfast with potatoes, over easy eggs, and both refried beans and avocado. It was great, the eggs were well cooked and my yolks broke open exposing their delicious yellow juice perfectly. The potatoes were crispy and the refried beans (black beans) were perfect, salty, and smooth. They also have two hot sauces one is pineapple and they have a chili oil at the table. I was looking for more heat / a more intense hot sauce but they were tasty. My partner got the fried chicken covered in gravy. It came with some spring veggies, peas, and onion. Everything was good, portions were big, and the food was fresh. Definitely recommend coming here and even if you have to wait, it's worth it!

    Taco Norteño Breakfast Potatoes

Food is amazing and the diner is so comfortable inside. Great for people watching. Im Mexican and was a bit skeptical about trying this place but the taco norteño was amazing and the breakfast potatoes are to die for. Very nice staff as well.

Doves Luncheonette is a southern inspired diner with Mexican inspired dishes. They have cocktails, coffee, and agua frescas to drink. We started with the chipotle deviled eggs topped with hot sauce and scallions. I highly recommend the brisket hash with burnt ends, crispy potatoes, chipotle aoli, queso fresco, scallion, peppers, eggs, and toast. The masa pancakes are different and have some not traditional spices. They have a nice patio outside if you aren't able to get a table inside. Service was great this is a great spot to go for breakfast or brunch.

    Taco Norteo, little gem salad

Really enjoyed it here! The menu surprised me; it's small and definitely breakfast forward but with some unique twists. I love the vibe of the space. It feels old school and established with lots of good character. We got the taco norteo and the little gem salad and it was the perfect mix of fresh and rich for lunch! Service was great. I'd come back for something unique again when in the area. It's not a ton of options but I appreciated the quality put into the dishes we got.

Wheeeew Dove's oh how I expected more of you. Yet I don't know why (possibly because of recommendations). Ok so let's jump into this review. For like 1.5 years, Doves has been recommended to me by many individuals, especially foodies. I finally decided to check it out and I went with a dear friend during Happy Hour - they serve food and drink. So for me, this is a great deal. Upon entering with no resy, we were seated fairly quickly. We greatly appreciated that with kind attitudes. Our server did a great job although it was clear he was overwhelmed and exhausted. My friend and I got the same meal of the fried chicken Sando and the horchata latte alcoholic. The drink - if you love coffee, I mean adore it, this is for you! Don't expect much liquor as this is pre- batched. Do not request mods as it's not accepted since it is pre batched. The sandwich fell flat on many levels. For $10, this sandwich came with no fries and no flavor. It was bread and meat. This is the type of sandwich you eat when you eat just to satisfy the task of feeding your body. Do not anticipate to eat this sandwich and expect flavor or to be full. I'm slightly inclined to return to Dove's but I'm also trying to determine what their cuisine is. It slightly gives diner but not really.

Dove's is one of my favorite breakfast spots. Cool ambience, diner style, counter seating. I love that they play vinyl tracks. Always great music. Drip coffee is la columbe. So good. My favorite thing is the house made hot sauces & chili crisp. I love it in my scrambled eggs. The breakfast potatoes are a must get. Crispy, with cheese & green onions. Always great service, very hip vibe.

    Dirty Horchata Latte
    Aaliyah L.

Went for happy hour on a Saturday. It was busy, but service was prompt and friendly. We ordered the dirty horchata latte and the hot chicken sando. Both were underwhelming and I didn't even care to finish them. You barely tasted any alcohol in the latte and the chicken sandwich barely had any flavor at all. Great HH prices, cozy & classic ambiance, lackluster flavors. Definitely don't feel inclined to return, but also wouldn't mind stopping in to try some other menu items.

    Chicken Fried Chicken

Came here for the back to life cocktail. Left trying the chicken fried chicken. You will struggle to pick whether the gravy or the chicken is better. Then the tasty refreshing ceviche to add another layer of "which is better?" Love this place as always and our server was great!

Love this little gem in Wicker Park! The setting is like a diner/bar. The music is great and non current. When I see the bartender also spinning vinyls like Chicago Souls and Joy Division, you know there's something special here. The OK Onion Burger is the best burger I've eaten since moving here a little over two years ago. It's so simple with a powerful taste. Soft sesame dead buns. A smash burger style seasoned patty. The pickles are a little sweet. And that unique sauce! The El Animal Fries may have been inspired by In-n-Out which is awesome! Gotta try it! The service is efficient and friendly. The bar seating is the place to be in my opinion:)

    Burnt Ends Hash
    Bridget D.

Dove's is the best! A spot by the window with a horchata cold brew is the best way to spend a morning. The burnt ends hash is my favorite breakfast dish in Chicago, with such an authentic flavor in every bite. The potatoes are cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly. The staff is wonderful and the space couldn't be cooler.

If you're hungry in Chicago, check out Dove's Luncheonette. It's got this cool retro diner vibe but with a smaller, more focused menu. You'll spot some classics along with a few dishes with a Mexican twist, which is a great touch. I started with the chipotle deviled eggs. Honestly, I'm a deviled egg fan, but here the chipotle kind of took over the flavor. It wasn't bad, just stronger than I expected. The chicken fried chicken? Super tasty and absolutely massive. I've been eating leftovers for days. The staff really made me feel welcome. Plus, there's always good music playing on vinyl in the corner, so the whole place feels relaxed and inviting. The food is hearty and pretty affordable for the portions. On a cold Chicago day, this spot just hits the spot. Definitely recommend it for comfort food with a little something extra.

They also have a patio, and with the weather being nice, it was easy to just sit outside and relax for a while. I was honestly too hungry to spend much time deciding, so I just ordered one of the sourdough donut ball. It was exactly what I was hoping for. The outside had a light coating of sugar that gave it just the right amount of sweetness without being too much. Once I bit into it, the inside was soft, airy, and slightly chewy from the sourdough, which made it different from a regular donut. There was a subtle tang from the sourdough that balanced the sweetness really well, so it never felt overly sugary. It had a light crispness on the outside, then a warm, pillowy center that practically melted away with each bite. I finished it way faster than I expected. The only thing I forgot was ordering something to drink with it. Looking back, a good coffee would've made it even better. Still, I'd definitely stop by again the next time I'm in the area.

Our family and extended family often ordered birthday cakes from them, and their mango cake was our favorite. When mangoes were in season, they used plenty of fresh mango in the cakes. Their cakes are always fresh, light, fluffy, and not too sweet. My daughter and I also love their individual cakes, especially the Black Pearl and Walnut Cake. Their pineapple buns and egg tarts are her favorites as well. Saint Anna has also been part of our daughter's childhood. When she was little, my husband used to bring her here before or after Chinese school in Chinatown on Sundays. Her go-to breakfast items were the Butter Bun, Ham and Macaroni in Soup, and Diced Ham and Corn in Cream Rice. As she got older, Curry Chicken with Potato became her favorite. She especially loved the potato cubes soaked in the delicious, mild curry sauce. She would always ask for more potatoes and less chicken, haha! Saint Anna is a family-run business, and Sara and Irene, the daughters-in-law, used to take care of the front of house. They were always so friendly and accommodating. After a 6-year hiatus, we finally returned one Friday recently when we happened to be in the area with a friend. Sara is now a co-owner, and it was wonderful to see her again. She immediately recognized us and was so warm and welcoming. She even asked me to relay her greetings to my sisters when she greeted us and again when we were leaving. Those little gestures made our return feel especially meaningful. We were still full from a big dim sum lunch, so my daughter picked up 2 Mini Pineapple Buns and 2 Paper-Wrapped Sponge Cakes, while I got a Red Bean Roll. Everything was fresh, soft, and delicious, and the total came to just under $8, really a great value. Our friend also purchased 2 Fried Sticky Rice Dumplings with Chicken. I had never really paid attention to their limited dim sum selection before, so that was a nice discovery. We love Saint Anna and will definitely be back whenever we're in the area.
