Update: My experience with Downey Hyundai has only gotten worse. After my previous service visit, I received a recall notice from them saying I still had an open recall that they had supposedly fixed. When I called, I learned my car had failed the service inspection, something no one had mentioned to me when I dropped it off. They told me the part had been received and asked if I wanted to make another appointment. Seriously after they messed up my car the first time, failed to complete the recall, and didn't tell me it failed the inspection, they wanted me to come back and trust them again? Over two days, I had to go back and forth at least 4-5 times, getting completely different answers each time "it'll be done in 10 minutes" to "it'll be ready by the end of the day." When I finally went to pick up my car, it was messed up again. While waiting for someone to speak with me, I was ignored, and the service manager, Ben, just stood silently on the sidelines, refusing to communicate. After all of this, I will never take my car to this dealership again. I'd rather drive farther than risk dealing with these scammers. read more

My experience purchasing the vehicle at first was good. They act all nice and professional when you're buying the car but after that...be aware! Don't buy a car from here folks! 3 weeks after buying the car my wife and I started receiving tickets over the mail, fast track tickets, parking etc. I went over to the dealership to ask what was going on, the sales manager Tony immediately brushed me off, telling me that I signed a release form the car was no longer my responsibility etc and sent me to the DMV! What do I need to go to the DMV for? It's not my responsibility and I no longer own the car, I also asked him for my old plates back because I didn't want to continue getting tickets over the mail. He refused and told me they have sold the car...lies! ! The DMV sent me back to the dealership and asked me to tell them to take care of the tickets, then yesterday I checked the mail ....another ticket! Tony the sales manager lied to me he told me they have sold the car, then how do I get another ticket? I have 2 jobs and have no time dealing with this nonsense, my wife went to the dealership today on my behalf and they were hiding from her, they made her wait forever and she noticed them all hiding at the back watching the soccer game! Bump up to a 1 1/2. Our most recent experience with Downey Hyundai was nothing short of shocking. We went through Downey to purchase my son's first vehicle. After doing months of extensive research, he found his perfect selection at Downey. His first experience with the dealership was letting them know he was on his way to pick up the vehicle, Downey calling him while he was on his way (about a 40 min. drive from our home) to make sure he was still coming, then arriving to find the dealership had just sold the car to someone else. Because they had the largest selection of the cars my son was seeking, he gave them another chance. Our purchase experience was okay, though there was a lot of haggling. Props to Jasmine, who was nice throughout the process. But the worst experience came after. The fuel gauge reader stopped working. This was initially scary on a 2024 model with almost no miles on it, as my son is filling the tank and the gauge isn't moving. This was weeks after purchasing, so the car was under warranty. We were assigned Jordan as our provider. And we heard nothing. And nothing. And nothing. I spoke with his manager- still no new information. Both my son and I followed up again and again. We were finally told the part was on backorder and they didn't know how long it would be. When we finally got a date of arrival, that date came and went. Eight days after that date, I get a txt from Jordan that the car would be ready by that Thursday. One month. I have never waited for more than a few days for any repair, let alone had such a lack of communication or professionalism. Come on, Downey Hyundai- not cool. read more

I have made repeated attempts to reach Jorge' upper management in finance--Tony--as well as Eddie and Mickey regarding a service I paid for that should have been added to my vehicle but was never included on the window sticker. After numerous calls and messages, no one has taken responsibility or contacted the lender to report the void, which is what the situation requires. The continued lack of response and accountability from this dealership is unacceptable. Since every effort to resolve this directly has been ignored, it appears that pursuing legal action is now the only viable path to getting this matter addressed. read more

I bought a Mazda CX-5 from this Hyundai dealership in Downey on February 16, 2026, and put $10,000 down. The very next day, I brought it back because it was making noise when I pressed the brakes. I was told repairs were made, including the brake pads and rotors, but the problems continued. Soon after, the accelerator was also making noise. I took the car to Mazda and was told the dealership had only lubricated the vehicle. I also had an independent mechanic look at it, and was told nothing had actually been replaced. After multiple calls, broken promises of callbacks, and no real help from management, I ended up paying out of pocket at Mazda for repairs. The dealership refused to reimburse me. Very disappointing experience. I tried to address the issues immediately after purchase, but got the runaround instead of a real resolution. I would be very cautious buying a used car here. read more

Update: It is now over 40 days that they've had my new vehicle in their service center. I have contacted Hyundai corporate and filed a complaint and they have so far done nothing (only been 2 weeks :-) ). I filed a complaint with the DMV, and next on the list is a lawsuit to get my car back. Will post an update on it. Previous Review: I purchased a vehicle brand new here and the vehicle had some damage I noticed when looking it over. The salesperson, who was very nice, said that's no problem, just put it on a due bill and they will fix everything. Ok. Due bill was made and I brought the car in for service. 1 week later or so it was returned to me. They only fixed 1 of the 3 items so I sent it back. Week 2.5 they returned the car to me after I asked the salesperson to confirm that all the fixes were made. He confirmed they were and then it was returned to me. Nothing was done. Still 2 out of 3 items not fixed. The salesperson said he would look into it, but never got back to me after that. I called the service manager who said she would look into it and get back to me the same day. She didn't. Nor the next day, nor the next (despite me calling and leaving messages daily). I then called asking for the GM but was told the GM isn't in the office on a normal business day during normal business hours. So today someone else said they would look into it for me. It is now almost a month after I dropped the car off for some simple repairs for a new car and I still don't have my car back. My wife happens to know someone who works at Hyundai corporate, but I didn't really want to bother them about it. I guess that's going to have to change. Hopefully Hyundai corporate will be able to resolve this. If you want a bunch of unnecessary headaches and to be ghosted, Downey Hyundai is the place for you. read more

DISHONEST TACTICS. POOR COMMUNICATION. AND NO ACCOUNTABILITY. I came to Downey Hyundai after receiving a quote from them through TrueCar for a Hyundai Elantra at a competitive out-the-door price. When I arrived, I was told the price was "incorrect," despite the fact that I confirmed the same list price on multiple platforms. I was told the price was more than $4k what I was quoted. The salesperson acknowledged the discrepancy, said he'd speak with a manager to see if they could honor the quote, and promised to follow up. During the visit, he even remarked, "If I were you and they honored that price, I'd take it and resell the car immediately for a profit." That stuck with me, because less than 24 hours later, I was told the vehicle had suddenly "sold" within two hours of my visit and the dealership closing for the day. Was it ever really available at that price? Hard to say. But what followed speaks volumes. I never heard back from the original salesperson. No manager called to explain. My texts and emails went unanswered. When I called the dealership, I was left on hold for long stretches, as if they were scrambling to align their story. Eventually, someone I hadn't spoken to before gave me the "consolation prize" of a generic quote on a completely different car with higher mileage and a higher price. There was no acknowledgment of the original situation and not even a basic apology from the parties involved. Despite all this, I was still willing to work with them on a fair deal for the second car in good faith, based on the original quote. But they made no effort to engage. No flexibility, no communication. Just a lazy, tone-deaf quote that made it clear they didn't value my time or my business. This felt like a textbook bait-and-switch followed by complete silence and evasiveness. If you're looking for transparency, professionalism, or even basic customer respect, this is not the place. They could not find any of those cars on the lot except one that was blocked in at a distance lot. They wanted me to wait for about an hour so that they could move the car out. If you look young or come with a family, be prepared to NOT be taken seriously at this dealership. My experience at Downey Hyundai was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. My dad scheduled an appointment with Ben at 2:30 PM. We arrived on time, but after waiting 30 minutes, we were told Ben was "busy." Instead, we were handed off to another salesperson, Jordan. When we asked about Ben, Jordan said Ben had a family emergency, which was a total LIE because we saw Ben walking around the dealership (you can see their name on the badge) and even standing in office, avoiding us for some reason without us ever being able to interact with him. This dishonesty immediately set the tone for the professionalism here. When we requested a test drive for the Ioniq SEL, Jordan made us wait another 30 minutes, saying he needed to move cars around due to other vehicles blocking it. The car he finally brought out wasn't even the SEL--it was the SE, which I myself had point out and ask for him to bring the SEL. Only then did they bring the correct model, but guess what? Again, there was no communication & at this point, we were passed off to yet ANOTHER salesperson, Alexis. While Alexis was kind and clearly tried his best, he admitted it was his first month on the job. It was obvious they didn't take my family or me seriously and instead gave us whoever was available. After the test drive, we were ready to discuss pricing & Alexis had to bring in a manager. Because they didn't have the exact model and color we wanted, the discussion ended vaguely. In total, we spent over TWO AND A HALF HOURS at this dealership--just to test drive a car, be misled by staff, and be bounced around between salespeople with NO prior communication. Overall, the lack of honesty, communication, and professionalism was unacceptable. I felt severely judged based on my age and appearance, and my family was treated with disregard throughout the entire process. I felt that since they saw I was young, they thought I would be wasting their time or something (when in fact, we were serious about getting a car). I left this dealership a glowing review just two months ago after buying my car. A few weeks later, I started finding issues they never disclosed. The staff's response has been disappointing. They sold me the car with hidden problems and then blamed me for not noticing them earlier and told me things like: "Oh, you didn't see the windshield had two cracks?" (which they covered with the registration sticker). "Oops, we can't do anything now." "Why didn't you come earlier?" "Maybe you did it!" They didn't even show me a used car inspection document and took advantage of the fact that I wasn't informed enough to request it myself. I trusted what they told me -- my main focus was rejecting all the add-ons they kept trying to push on me. I showed them same-day photos proving the cracks were already there (you just had to look closely). Only then did they offer to repair -- not replace -- the windshield, and I had to wait over two hours for the appointment. The car also has a constant squeaky noise. Service told me I'd need to drop it off early one morning for a full day or two, with no loaner car offered, even though this is my only vehicle for work. This was supposed to be a "certified" 2025 model with just 4,000 miles and zero damage reported. Sales manager Tony showed zero interest when I tried asking him questions -- the second time he just turned around and walked away rudely. Along with manager Hamza and seller Kenny, they all got defensive and acted like I was wrong for calling them out. You sold a certified car with a cracked windshield and weird noises. Avoid Downey Hyundai service dept at all costs. I took it in for key not communicating with the car and no power at 6K miles. They took 2 weeks to diagnoses it and gave it back and said it was a software update. Brand new car and Hyundai warranty only covers 10 days rental which you have to submit for reimbursement. When I went to pick it up they had damaged the driver door mirror, front bumper molding and used break in tools to get in the passenger side and damaged the b pillar, passenger front door and roof. No apology no remorse but they did say they would take care of the repairs. They didnt even telll me about the damage I had to discover it on my own. I took the car to them and got a loaner from them at that point so they could repair. It took a month to repair and couldn't get a straight answer for an ETA the entire time. Though Jordan the supervisor would to text it took a times 2 days to respond. While they had it they were supposed to replace the horn that went out after 3K miles and didn't which resulted in further delay. The entire time I asked to speak with the a service manager and never received a call once from Angel the service manager. At this point I just wanted my vehicle back when it was done after a month. I asked for them to check the repairs before I went down there so I wouldn't go down there for nothing and miss more time from work. Jordan the service manager said he check and it was good. I even provided him a bullet point of the issues needing to be fixed. He said everything was good. I leave work early and get there and the door still wasn't fixed... At this point I'm super pissed off. After a lot of back and forth I remain respectful and want to speak with a manager but he was "in meetings" every time I asked for him. Jordan stated he will have it done in 2 days and delivered to me. The day came and the time passed when Jordan said the car would be dropped off. I texted him asking for an ETA and then got a call from the body shop. The vehicle was done but still had to be brought to me. I went to just pick it up myself to end the nightmare. The day before I got my car back I finally spoke to Edgar, one of the other service managers and he did hear me out and had some compassion for everything going on. I had a very frustrating experience at this dealership. Before coming in, I spoke with staff over the phone and was told a few different things about financing, including the possibility of combining the remaining balance on my current car loan with a new purchase and interest rates somewhere between 0 to 4 percent. I was also told they would buy my current car, which had recently been recovered after being stolen and is in rough shape. I understood it might not be worth much, but I expected at least a small amount for parts or scrap. When I arrived, Kenny was the salesperson helping me and he was professional and respectful throughout the process. He seemed to genuinely try to help and repeatedly checked with his managers to see what they could do. Unfortunately the experience changed once one of the managers stepped in. His approach felt very aggressive and focused on pressure rather than transparency. Several times when I began getting up to leave he suddenly had a new offer to try to keep me there. At one point after I gave him a number I was comfortable with he said "now we are talking business," which made it feel like the earlier numbers were not being presented honestly. That comment alone made me lose a lot of trust in the process. I was prepared to put about $2,000 down and was willing to accept monthly payments in the $400 to $500 range. However they repeatedly tried to push me into a Kia Soul even after I clearly said I was not interested in that vehicle. I explained that friends and family members who owned that model had not had great experiences and that reliability was very important to me. I need something that will last and not constantly give me problems. Later in the process Kenny and another manager tried to find another option and mentioned a Mazda. They then told me their lender declined the loan because the vehicle had around 79,000 miles. I asked if they could provide some type of summary or verification showing that the loan was declined since I have had experiences in the past where dealerships were not fully transparent. They said they could not show anything because it was on the computer and contained sensitive information. I understand privacy concerns but they could have printed some type of summary. The situation felt unclear. Another example that did not make sense was when they said I would need $5,000 down to make the cheaper car work even though I had already explained that I only had $2,000 available. I even pointed out that if I had $5,000 I could simply pay off the remaining balance on my Hyundai Sonata and avoid the issue entirely. The aggressive manager also said that whoever gave me the information over the phone about combining the loans and the lower interest rates would be fired. He also implied he was the main manager but later I learned he was just one of the managers. Toward the end Kenny and another manager tried to smooth things over and were more respectful, but by that point the trust had already been broken. I told them that the earlier interaction left a bad impression and that I would be taking my business elsewhere. In the end I left the dealership without a car and very unsatisfied with the experience. I will probably just take my current vehicle to Pick N Pull and get a couple hundred dollars for it instead of dealing with this situation. The dealership promotes itself as being number one but unfortunately the experience felt like the typical high pressure car sales tactics people try to avoid. Even the initial greeting when I first arrived did not feel very welcoming. It felt more like "what do you need" rather than a friendly introduction. Kenny was professional and did what he could, but overall the experience was disappointing and I would not recommend this dealership based on how this situation was handled. read more

I'm so disappointed. I had an appointment to get my car "fixed," something Hyundai is responsible for. I had an appointment and missed it by 15 minutes. I asked if my car would get fixed, and I'll take a loaner. They "didn't " have a loaner but offered me a rental. First of all, I don't understand why the customer has to pay for an error Hyundai created. Then, I asked to reschedule my appointment, and without asking for my name, I was given one. I asked the guy if he knew my name, but he didn't even ask. I train people to be respectful and to provide the same attention and care to every person who walks into our business. Be careful who you try to fool; the joke will be on you. Whether the mechanics were busy or not, you don't play me stupid, asking your peers for backup. When received first and only offer, tried to get the details of what it was composed of, was rudely told that it was the only deal they could do. When attempting to get further clarity on other prices, was told "this is america" by salesman named Hamza. Hamza was kept interrupting when we were asking questions about included fees and asking multiple times if we knew what a drive off fee in a rude tone as if we didn't understand english. I am writing to formally complain and demand a review of the unacceptable and retaliatory conduct I experienced at Hyundai Downey, the dealership where I originally leased my vehicle. On the exact day my lease expired, I presented myself at Hyundai Downey to return the vehicle in full compliance with my lease agreement. I arrived at approximately 10:15 a.m. and remained at the dealership until 6:00 p.m., at which point the dealership refused to accept the lease return. The refusal occurred solely because I declined to immediately lease or purchase another vehicle from their inventory. The dealership only had one vehicle available, in a color I did not want. I made it clear that I was willing to remain a Hyundai customer, but preferred to wait until the color I wanted became available. I explicitly stated that I was not in a hurry and asked them to contact me when the desired vehicle arrived. Instead of respecting this decision, the dealership retaliated by refusing to accept my lease return and instructing me to return the vehicle to another dealership. This decision was communicated at 6:00 p.m. on a Friday, despite the dealership being fully aware that Hyundai Motor Finance was closed, effectively preventing me from resolving or escalating the issue that same day. Their excuse was they didn't have space, but a salesperson informed me, quietly and off the record, that the true reason for the refusal was that the sales manager was angry that I did not accept their offer after they had completed paperwork and run my credit. This confirms that the refusal was not based on policy, but on personal frustration and retaliation. As a result of Hyundai Downey's actions: I lost an entire business day I was intentionally placed in a stressful and vulnerable position at lease expiration I was denied my contractual right to return the vehicle at the originating dealership I was treated unprofessionally and coercively After the long weekend, I returned the vehicle to Cardinale Hyundai of El Monte, where the lease return was accepted immediately and without any issue, proving that Hyundai Downey's refusal was unjustified. The vehicle was returned in excellent condition, with: Approximately 27,000 miles out of 30,000 contracted Both original keys Original carpets, unused Hyundai Downey's conduct reflects a dealership willing to pressure customers, retaliate when sales are declined, and disregard basic customer rights. I was fully prepared to lease another Hyundai vehicle, and this experience directly caused Hyundai to lose a loyal customer. read more

I love the car, so far no problems there. The sale went fine (or so I thought). I liked the salesman, got a great deal, and decided to use Hyundai financing. About two weeks later I got a letter in the mail saying I needed to return the car due to the dealership not being able to find a financial institute to take on the loan. I have credit in the 800's, make six figures, and have zero other loans, but they couldn't find a financial institution to take on my $30K loan?! Of course I reached out to my sales rep and he said don't worry about the letter, they found an institution. My lawyer advised me to get that in official writing since the letter I received was official writing and a text message from my rep wouldn't protect me from my car being taken. My sales rep promised I would get it but I never did. I guess this is a thing, in the contract you sign there is a clause that says the dealership has 10 days to take back the car for whatever reason. But the letter was postmarked after the 10 days. So I have a lawyer on hand and my documentation ready in case they do repo my car. So I do recommend Hyundai in general but not Downey Hyundai - unless you want to possibly hire a lawyer and be in constant fear of your car being repoed. read more

Was hunting for a 2025 Tucson Hybrid, and when I looked up inventories I saw they were the only dealership that had the one I wanted in red! I called, spoke with Moussa, and he prepped it for me to come down and have look. Moussa and the whole team were fantastic. He was knowledgeable, provided clear explanations of all the features, the financial process, he wasn't pushy at all, and was very patient (I had a LOT of questions). He negotiated a very good deal for me, including a Tesla trade-in, and within 5 hours I WAS DRIVING IT HOME. He and the dealership have called me a couple of times to make sure I was happy with purchase and the process. I highly recommend this dealership if you're in the market for a Hyundai. This place customer service is dreadful. I've called 3x after dropping off my vehicle for service around 8am 12/23/2025. It's currently 12:40 and no call on a status update, nothing. I called to check and was transferred to another lead, who then stated another lead had the vehicle but may be at lunch. Hold, let me check and places me on hold. 12:08mins pass nothing. I hang up and call back. Same person answers I gave the same spill as I just want a status update and I'm transferred to another hold line and nothing. There's a thing called staggered lunch breaks and if I'm not mistaken the deal ship use hand held tablets to check in the vehicles well as to make updates. Shouldn't be this HARD! read more

This dealership has a bunch of shysters in it. From the salesman to the finance guy to the general manager, all of them tried to scam my adult son with yo-yo financing, and when I went in there with him to return the car, they tried to scam me and him again. The general manager raised his voice to try to intimidate me, but I put an end to that. No sir, you nor any other man is ever going to speak that way to me and think that I'm going to cower. We are not in the 1950s anymore. Shame on you. Don't buy from this dealership. Don't buy Hyundai!! Go to Norm Reeves Cerritos and buy a Honda from Lili Mares at 562-500-8894 cell phone and she is GREAT and I negotiated a GREAT price on a 2024 Certified HONDA with low miles all via text. Once you know what kind of car you want and if it's on their lot, you can do everything via text with her. DON'T buy an oil guzzling, engine freezing up Hyundai! read more

This place does a classic bait and switch when selling cars. I found a white 2025 4Runner and was told the morning of that the car was there, drove all the way from San Diego to get there and the car isn't even there, fine, annoying but whatever. We were shown another one that was listed at $41k and when shown the out the door price it went up to $56k due to the add on's that are non optional (lift and wheels/tires). They literally ran out to our car as we were pulling out and offered us $50k out the door, again, $9k in fees is outrageous. He also kept trying to convince me to buy a Hyundai which I didn't want and he pressed asking why stating he knows they're not good looking but the technology in their cars is great. From the onset when I reached out to finalizing our beautiful new car we had an excellent experience. First to contact us was Larisa and then we got very lucky and our salesperson was Armo. How refreshing that now days a salesperson wants to pick up the phone to answer questions versus using digital methods. He was very attentive to what we were looking for in addition everything he told us from the beginning about the vehicle, pricing and finance options never changed. We made the 110-mile drive from Palm Springs to Downey, and we were greeted so graciously. Our finance person was Sammy, again very professional, answered all questions and made the process seamless.
