I did enjoy the place. The food was good but my hamburger was really hard to eat it was so messy. It was the special of the day not sure what it was called. Ive always enjoyed the food here. Unfortunately, when my husband and I went for dinner tonight we sat in the bar and had terrible service. We were there for over an hour for 2 burgers. I ordered a salad for my side and got fries instead and the fries were cold. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The hostess sat us at a table that was dirty and appeared irritated when we asked for it to be cleaned.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had to personally ask for the check to avoid waiting there longer. I had been craving a good chicken sandwich for days. I'm not about to sit in line at Chick fil a for hours. Decided to give this one a try since @spokaneeats recommended during her stories yesterday. She was spotlighting great local small businesses that have a good chicken sandwich. The bun was buttered and toasted, the chicken had a spicy bbq sauce, crispy coating, pickle, coleslaw, and garlic aioli. The only problem I have is now I'm going to need it weekly. I wanted to update my review because I was a little bit frustrated with the service we received. Not only did I have to wait 40 minutes for a salad that was brought to me last and everybody else was served at the table they brought it out with chicken instead of salmon and the waitress kind of shrugged it off like she didn't care?! I let her know that I wanted salmon on my salad she just walked away so my husband had to call the manager since nothing was being done. I do want to take a note it's feels like more of a waitress issue then a cook issue. The manager did come over and address the issue quickly brought out a salmon so I can eat my salad after almost over an hour waiting at this point. The manager also took it off the bill I just feel disappointed because I have always had a good experience here. read more

It has been years since my last visit and the food is better then ever! My office had our Christmas dinner at the Downriver Grill and I was excited to have a chance to visit again, try a variety of appetizers and enjoy a perfectly cooked steak. The Calamari is wonderful but I just enjoy the heck out of those Gorgonzola cheese fries! They rock! My wife enjoyed the scallops and the Kobe steak was excellent, and the Gorgonzola whipped potatoes really made for an pleasant experience. The butterscotch pudding was thicker then I expected but delicious none the less. I look forward to returning and enjoying those gorgonzcheese fries soon! read more

If you are looking for a quiet restaurant, keep looking. No attempt has been made to reduce sound reflection, and even when half the tables are unoccupied, it's damned loud. We wanted to stay for dessert, but the noise made us desert the table. Places like this really put the 'din' in dinner. If you like a little beef with your salt, order one of the burgers. I normally eat everything on my plate, but two bites of that patty was too much for me, and I could not eat anything more. But seriously, if you get more than half-way through one of these sodiumburgers, be sure to go home and drink a gallon of water, or you risk renal damage. read more

The dinner I was to cook was still frozen, so it's time for our once-a-month dining-out treat. I chose this restaurant because it's very close to home, the price range is good, and the ratings here are awesome. I'm glad we took the advice and made reservations, virtually last-minute, because when we arrived at 5:30pm on a Friday night, only street parking was available. Our table was ready with a carafe of ice water and four iced glasses. Staff was courteous and friendly, not to mention attentive. The bbq burger was ordered by my husband, the french dip by both offspring, and I ordered the chicken marsala. Due to suggestions here, we tried the Gorgonzola fries. So worth it!!! Waffle fries with gorgonzola cheese, cracked pepper, and was absolutely delicious! In fact, everybody's meal was fabulous. The burger was large, juicy, cooked just right; the dips meat was lean, so no gristle or fat, and served on toasted sourdough bread; the chicken was tender, cooked to perfection, with a white cream sauce instead of red. My broccoli was also perfect, cooked to the point of tender but not wilted. I had a choice of garlic mashed potatoes or crispy quartered. I chose the latter, and they too were so tasty!! Lastly: dessert. One had chocolate cake, one had creme' brulee', and I had chocolate almond pudding. Each was fabulous, and I cannot even try to make a recommendation. The weather was beautiful, so we were able to eat outside on the back patio. A very relaxing decor, earthy and spa-like, very clean. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was pleasing.. Gorgonzola fries- just that. Waffle fries with a creamy sauce and sprinkling of cheese. Addicting! Roasted Brie- I LOVED it! Cut into the crust of the Brie to reveal its melted goodness! Served with toasted crostini drizzled with a balsamic reduction. Awesome combination I would love to try and imitate at home! Calamari- I'm not a fan of calamari, but my family enjoyed it with its sweet/sour glaze The signature salad- very simple with an olive oil dressing. I'm usually not a fan of salads that are mostly spinach, but the simple flavors went well together. I ordered portobello ciabatta with pesto and arugula. Would have been tasty and filling on its own, but I went ahead and added grilled chicken to it. The chicken itself was juicy and cooked/seasoned well. With it, I had a cup of their soup of the day (chicken curry) a mild curry flavor, not spicy, I liked it. Kids enjoyed their Mac & cheese, it was obviously Kraft, like what most places serve on their kids menu.. I do appreciate when restaurants make their own though.. For dessert, our table tried their tiramisu, creme brûlée, and banana foster bread pudding. All were delicious and presented beautifully. A very nice restaurant, I'm glad I was able to try their food while in town!... Ps, I LOVE their herb garden out back too. Food was BOMB. I decided one night I was going to give Downriver a whirl, especially because I was craving some local cuisine. Of course with the current mandate, I knew I'd need to order carry-out. To my surprise, their pick-up service went great! The two employees at the front were very kind and were quick to hand over my order. The food was especially amazing! One of our favorite restaurants in town, but was a little disappointed when we went there last week. They've significantly reduced their entree menu to just 5 items (1 meat, 1 fish, 1 pasta, 1 seafood, and 1 vegan) and loaded up on sandwiches and burgers now. Pretty much what you'd find at average pubs in town but not DRG. The pork osso bucco is gone and so is the puttanesca with Sonnenberg sausage, which were two of the best entrees anywhere in Spokane. Tragic! We ended up having a steak, which was pretty good, and the scallops entree, which was mediocre. As usual the service was great, and thank goodness the beignets were still on the dessert menu. Hopefully the chef and GM wake up soon and return to the 5-star menu they used to have. read more

Made a reservations for Mother's Day. I called in, and they said they would have specials for Mother's Day. When we got there, the table was ready but they handed us a smaller menu. They didn't have what my daughter wanted to order. My husband ordered the scallop special for $42 and it came with three medium scallops. Not worth it at all. service was slow. We had to wave our waiter down for water refills, for boxes, for our check. To even order we had to wave him down. Food was decent, but it was pretty expensive for what you get. read more

Spokane has many great locally owned restaurants. This evening I did a bit of research and checked out Downriver Grill's website. I was excited to see they offer happy hour all day on Wednesday. What a treat! When I get to the resturant I asked the host if Happy Hour was only in the bar. The host informed me it happy hour all day was Sunday. I inquired and asked if the website was outdated. He didnt know. The waiter didnt know either but simply said it was Sunday. I understand things change and websites dont instantly get updated. I was frustrated by the lack of apology or even acknowlegment that it is clearly labeled Wednesday online. If you look and get excited about a midweek happy hour - dont. The food was fine but I will not be back. What may have helped would have been owning the mistake, offering maybe a small discount on an appetizer or drink, and informing management to update the website. Instead I got blank stares. read more

Pro tip: Please don't advertise outdoor seating if all the chairs and tables are stacked up and the patio is closed. With covid still raging and very few in Spokane wearing masks, I drove 25 minutes to get here. Very disappointing. This is my favorite restaurant lately. I've had breakfast, brunch, lunch, happy hour, Uber eats regular, and dinner. I'm in LOVE. We like to customize items and they are just all good with it. Exchange romaine for arugula. Done. Add beets, no prob. Tons and tons of gorgonzola sauce - you got it. Everything is awesome. The food is fresh and delicious. Try the lavender mimosa, the bacon at breakfast, the happy hour burger, the gorgonzola sauce is incredible, the bloody Mary is completely delicious, the kids Mac and cheese nomnomnom, the eggs Benedict, yasssss. Downriver Grill never disappoints! I'm sure I said that in my last review....! Tonight's Tuesday steak night surpassed anything I could've imagined. One of the absolute best meals I've ever had. $15 steak night. 8 oz Coulotte (pretty sure ours were larger) atop brown butter sage mashed potatoes and garlic braised asparagus, surrounded with a swirl of pomegranate molasses and topped with crispy parsnips. ABSOLUTE HEAVEN. honestly, if this were a monthly offering I would have standing reservations. To die for! I would advise having reservations - even though it's Tuesday night. It was packed and we had to wait 20 minutes or so for a table. It also took a while for our steaks to arrive as well, but worth every minute of the wait! No complaints. This was by far the best meal I've had in Spokane since moving here a few years ago. My friend and I split the filet with gnocchi, cioppino, and calamari. The filet was definitely one of the best steaks I've ever had.. could literally be cut with a fork. The service was wonderful.. Absolutely a gem here in Spokane! The service here is 10 star. It could not be better. The food here is outstanding. Tuesday nights are steak night and Wednesdays are burger and beer night. The burgers are to die for. Each week the specials are slightly different with amazing flavors. Their clams are fresh and perfectly cooked, the appetizer quesadilla with chicken is one of the best I have ever had. The fries , the chips, all amazing. The desserts are incredible! Honestly, there is not one thing on the menu that is not excellent. The chef and the staff here should be applauded. We are looking forward to trying out the weekend brunch here soon. Beer selection here decent and wine selection not bad. Ambiance is perfect!! Bathrooms clean as they can be. Only issue here is parking . We have been here 3 times for brunch and we loved it, so we decided to do a dinner. We had reservations at 6pm and got there at 5:45ish. When we got inside, they informed us that they gave our table away, so we had to sit near the kitchen counter. Took them 10 minutes to take our drink order, and just as long to receive it. Drinks are amazing and well crafted. Our dinner was served in 2 courses, 2 of the 4 people get their dinner, the other 2need to wait 5-7min to get theirs. Not the best way to enjoy a dinner. The food was top notch and very tasty, I recommend the pork chop or salmon. Parking lot is very small and you more than likely will be parking on the street. All in all, not to sure I would spend that much again for a chance for a better experience. read more

My husband and I had the most amazing dinner here last night. The calamari was absolutely delicious, the Caesar salad is one of the best I have ever had (and I have eaten a LOT of these at many different restaurants), and the Puttanesca was outstanding! The wine prices are very reasonable and our server was the best! Overall it was a 10/10. Also, the kitchen technically closes at 8, but at 8:10 they happily agreed to prepare a DRG burger for us to take home for a family member. I had considered this place for dinner multiple times but it hadn't worked out. Girlfriend decided she wanted to try it for brunch. No wait at 11:00 on a Sunday which was a surprise. New waitress was very nice and did a decent job. Food took quite a long time to come out though considering they weren't slammed and had lots of open tables, around 30 minutes by the time it showed up. When the food did arrive it was luke warm, which is the kiss of death for any egg dish, and underwhelming. The flavor was decent on the Santa Fe Benedict but it came with the smallest portion of pork belly possible. Seriously, had to look for it under the sauce and it was no bigger than half of a business card. Would much rather have tried their regular Benedict as that comes with their regular bacon, which is generously sized and delicious. My girlfriend got a biscuit dish and was disappointed as well. Her biscuit was dry and again nothing was hot, plus just look at the eggs, straight up ihop or Denny's style. The Bloody Mary was delicious though and had a great kick of spice with the pickle and other garnishes. I would still like to try this place for dinner in the future, as it has a few items I'm interested in trying. Came here for a lunch date with a girlfriend during happy hour and they had such an amazing menu! Wednesday is happy hour all day, which is when I went. The Gorgonzola fries are a must! They're the perfect appetizer and the Gorgonzola sauce is so fresh. They are so awesome at customizing anything on the menu without an issue. I ordered the roasted beet salad but replaced the dressing and red wine cherries for red pepper balsamic and avocados. DELICIOUS and on the happy hour menu. A place where the service was better than the food. In the restaurant's valiant attempt to serve the GF crowd, the liberal use of thick rice-flour based hamburger buns for sandwiches does not work. Especially when the meat (in this case sliced "something" for a French dip) is relatively tasteless. Of course, let us not forget the significant upcharge for the GF bun. And does a restaurant serving French dip really have to include a soup bowl-sized portion of au jus? It did nothing to add to the flavor, (although the UNTOASTED GF hamburger bun loved to fall apart in it. Hint: TOAST the bun, at minimum). Again, thank goodness the service was excellent. As for feedback on the other meals at the table, not sure. No one said anything - so I guess theirs was just OK, as well. Like most Americans, we smile and thank the server. Perhaps other items on their allergen restricted menu would be better. Would we go back? Probably not. Too many other restaurants in Spokane to try. read more

The best meal we've had in Spokane in 8 months. What a stellar menu and execution of a delicious meal. My husband and I went on a whim, and now we're going to struggle trying any new establishments. I ordered the pan-seared wild halibut complete with fingerling potatoes and other garnishes. The fish was cooked perfectly: not dry, not undercooked, a spectacular crust. It was perfectly melded with sweet and savory flavors. My husband ordered the pork belly Mac & Cheese. It was SPECTACULAR. Apparently the restaurant RUNS OUT of the delectable mac&cheese every night. It's an incredible "MUST". The pork belly is sweet and savory, definitely candies and smoky. Lastly, we had their famous beignets! Loaded with confectioners sugar, a bourbon caramel and seasonal jam. The beignets were warm, flaky had perfectly crunchy. We LOVED them and ate them all! Easily a 10/10 experience, wonderful service, friendly staff. A treasure of Spokane. This place quietly serves up a fantabulous brunch offering every weekend (think savory, inventive farm-to-table with a weekly variation of housemade donuts + hearty breakfast cocktail menu). The locals in the know call it DRG. Down-right-Good. I ordered the Greens, Egg & Ham dish. It was an elevated open sandwich with asparagus, ham, a thin layer of goat cheese, and egg. There was also bacon, arugula pesto, and a side of smashed-fried Herb Potatoes. Best brunch I've had in a long time. Each item was perfectly cooked and it was all nicely crispy! I was so down with this savory brunch dish that I have continued to think about it wistfully each morning. Our server was downright charming as she recommended a locally made hot sauce, coached us through the drink menu, and made sure we were happy. (Bellini is on point). (Also, as I strolled through the restaurant on my way down to the impeccably clean bathrooms I spied herb gardens and patio seating outside. All good signs for my future relationship with DRG).
