Just visited for carry out BBQ on a rainy, quiet Memorial Day weekend. I ordered a sample of chili (1/2pt), the 1/2 St. Louis rack of ribs, slaw and green beans. All were "good". The chili was tasty if a bit salty. Ribs were again, just good, They didn't seem very meaty for a St. Louis cut of ribs IMHO. I've had and prepared many a rack 'o ribs over the years and these were just ok. The smoky and the spicy BBQ sauces were excellent and this 1/2 rack needed it cuz they were kinda dried out. The best thing that I ordered was the green beans. They were fresh and savory. Dunno if I'll be back - kinda pricey St. Louis ribs should be bigger and the meat not so dry. read more

This place had to be the best bbq I've had. The ribs were fall off the bone! It was so tender. The brisket was so juicy and didn't even need a knife to cut through. You tasted the flavor in every bite. The bbq sauce they had on the side was so good too, my favorite was the spicy bbq one. The sides were delicious as well. We got the collared greens and the mac and cheese. The corn bread was okay, but everything else was delicious. They also had live music which was a great touch. This place was the bomb! The only complaint? I wanted one of their t-shirts and they were sold out! I am totally addicted to the crushes they make in Delaware so naturally ordered one of those! I had the baby back ribs and they were fantastic! My friend had the rib combo and she said she preferred the baby back but the beef ribs were also tasty. The sides were all delicious except the cheesy corn. the portions were more than enough! Our server was very friendly and helped us with the different sauces! We liked this place so much - we ate here 2 nights! The first stop was later in the evening. We had to wait a little while to be seated. I had scoped out the menu and saw there was plenty we liked and prices were "normal." Added bonuses include live music and plenty of TVs with sports on. We were given warm cornbread to start off, It was really good, We knew what we wanted to pretty quickly and put our order in. Hubby went with burger the first night and smoked wings the second night. I got the half chicken with green beans and collard greens both nights. Our food was ready in pretty good time. Our waitress was attentive and efficient. We had the same girl both nights as we sat at the same table - but she didn't seem to recognize us - which is a little odd only because my hair is partly purple - so people tend to remember me. Hubby said his burger was good as was the cole slaw. He ate most every bite. The wings, on the hand, were perfectly smoked. However, like most restaurants, they lacked any good sauce selections. The sauce they passed off as hot was pretty much Frank's hot sauce. Also, he got 6 wings and couple pieces of celery and dressing - so it really wasn't a meal. It left plenty of room for an ice cream cone for him afterwards. On the other hand, my meal was absolutely AWESOME. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The first night I got BBQ sauce on it and added more from the sauces on the table. The second night I ate it plain and it was amazing and flavorful without BBQ sauce. The chicken was a little undercooked the first night but the meat came off the bone - so it was done enough for me to eat. The second night it was perfect. The green beans were perfectly al dente. They had a nice oil and salt coating. And the collard greens were to die for. I'm not sure what they were cooked in - some kind of oil/fat with incredible flavor. Needless to say I ate every single bite both nights - and that's A LOT of food. I would definitely return if given the opportunity. They also had a salad I could order if I ever got sick of the chicken. As I said, the prices are more reasonable than what we saw at other restaurants. You could get a sandwich for under $20. My entree was $28 and that's on the higher end. I highly recommend if you're looking for a good meal with decent services and prices. read more

We saw a video for Bethany Blues on the ferry and decided to check it out. Right away we loved the bourbon bar and cool vibe. We sat at one of the hightop tables facing the bar and TVs. I ordered a Smoked Cherry Old Fashioned, and when it was delivered to our table, our server lit it to enhance the smoky taste. It only had a touch of smokiness to it which I liked. My husband ordered the Blues Signature Manhattan which he also enjoyed. I love that you can create your own BBQ combos at Bethany Blues, so I opted for a pulled pork and Carolina chopped pork combo with a side of their smokehouse baked beans and marinated cucumbers and onions. I loved everything on my plate although my favorite was the Carolina pulled pork. Everything was delicious. No dry meat here. The side of cornbread was a delightful accompaniment as well. My husband also ordered the combo with pulled pork, beef brisket, and pulled chicken. No complaints. This restaurant has a dedicated takeout window too which is great. We did not want to commit to a whole rack of ribs, but this alternative to hot wings was the perfect size and they were very, very good - smoky and tender, but with some crispy bits. The brisket nachos were less successful. They were good, but were heavily cheese-forward. Just not enough of the other toppings, like smoked jalapeños or brisket. The remodel is awesome with a bar in the front and a nice refresh of the decor. They have live music Wednesday thru Saturday. The staff is quick, efficient and on point. The happy hour specials are the best. The crushes and cocktails are great. The crab bisque, boob boom shrimp, devil eggs, trio dip, and steak egg rolls are delicious and nice portioned. It was late on Sunday September 14th, after dinner time & I was on my way out of Rehoboth, DE to head back to Montgomery Village, MD and I knew that there are very few places open to eat a late dinner Sunday night after 9 PM. So I looked on Yelp and found "Downtown Bethany Blues" restaurant and it had some of the best reviews pretty much all five stars, and was open to eat at until the kitchen's last order at 9:45pm, as it closes on Sunday nights st 10:00pm The ambiance is basically a small rectangular restaurant with a bar, and booth like seating on the right hand side of the restaurant, with tables that are high up and reachable for eating with chairs right across the table, to be able to seat 4 people. There are 3 of those tables. Some diners complained about the height of the table cutting into them on the booths and the lack of space. On the back of the bar which is on the left hand side, those seats and tables on the right side are looking across at huge screen televisions above the bar, and a couple televisions if one seated there looks to the right hand side and is seated at those tables and viewing to the back of the bar which would be looking to the right of the location of those tables. Because I was there on a Sunday night at 9:10pm, the football game of the Atlanta Falcons vs. the Minnesota Vikings was playing on the televisions. But note, at least every single TV in there was playing the same game, so there was not more than the 1 same game playing. Most likely they are always airing a sports TV show. It is very much a sports bar atmosphere, so I would not necessarily say it is kid friendly. It is definitely more geared towards sports fans of any age maybe including boys & girls as they get older. It is VERY LOUD in there, between the televised Sports and any chit chat. As I carry a pair of concert ear plugs on me, I put them in my ears and the noise was not as irritating. One Senior couple reviewed that this place would not be comfortable for Senior citizens. It says that they take reservations [I think it is via Open table] but I also saw reviews from people who said that they had shown up & for their table reservation & were still not seated for a while. Many years ago we visited the location in Bethany and thought the BBQ was dry and not worth the drive. Walking by the location in RB and smelling the aromas of meat smoking prompted me to give them another chance and I'm so glad we did! We went for their Fathers' Day special, which was $29 for all you could eat BBQ and sides. I was very pleased with everything sampled. The brisket was cooked just right, pulled pork tasty, and the smoked sausage had a nice balance of flavors. I had several helpings of their ribs, which were cooked perfectly. The portions were large and had a nice presentation. While the meats were great, the sides were average. Mac and cheese at a BBQ joint should be top notch, but was just plain here. Another highlight is the bourbons they have in stock! A very large list of bourbons and an even better selection at the bar that is not on the list. I did a flight of single barrels. The bar manager came out to check how I liked them and then brought us a sample of single barrel Knob Creek they chose just for their restaurant. This attention to customers and pride in the restaurant is what made us come back for a second visit (at the bar) during our stay. They make a mean old fashioned and Manhattan along with giving generous pours of their bourbons. Sat at the bar for lunch so that we can watch the Michigan game, husband was perfectly happy to let me take advantage of daytime happy hour here. I had to make me a tequila drink with a punch, while he had a $5 Dewey beer. Although the birra taco is on the happy hour menu, I ordered the meal so I could get the side dish of street corn too. While I really love the meaty tacos, and the consomme was wonderful, the streetcar and was bizarre uncooked in a strange thick glop of a sauce. I actually had to double check to make sure that it wasn't flour they thickened it with, but it was cornstarch and safe for me (but not palatable). He had a brisket sandwich that was absolutely enormous! The smoke brisket was piled with french fried onions, a beautiful dish with a side of potato salad he did really like. Our server really knew the menu, was friendly and efficient and she made sure to time the delivery of the main course after appetizers perfectly. They have an amazing selection of bourbon at very reasonable prices. We started with brisket egg rolls that were to die for. I chose fall off the bones ribs and succulent brisket amd my guest had pulled pork and chicken that were heavenly. A array of sauces including a Carolina mustard sauce were fun to try; I must admit they weren't needed, just fun. We brought home a couple bowls of chili which were great. Go back? While walking down Rehoboth Ave, I got a whiff of barbecue and followed it right to this place, dragging my husband with me (who is not as big of a bbq fan as I am). This place surprised me when walking in, as it is quite lovely, which you don't always expect from a bbq place. There was plenty of seating between the "dining area" and the bar area. Now, let's get to the good part: the food. Everything we had was delicious, fall-off-the-bone, hot, and fresh. This place had a selection of pulled meats and ample sides to go with it, giving the diner a lot of variety to choose from him, which helps someone like me who doesn't eat a lot be able to order something different from my husband who has unlimited stomach space. Well ... some good and some not so. Our family decided to try this place and walked away with mixed feelings. First regarding the meats. We tried several. From the chopped pork and the kielbasa (which were both done well), to the brisket (which was a little dry). The surprising part of this experience was that this place did not really offer a sweet BBQ sauce (which I like). And the rest of the sauces we tasted were not inspiring. Off to the sides, we enjoyed the cole slaw and BBQ beans, but the mashed potatoes and corn were not all that. One more thing ... while seated during our meal, we noticed that the environment was pretty loud despite the restaurant was not being full. The management needs to consider applying some noise dampening features to offset all the hard surfaces reflecting and amplifying the sound. Although the service was great, with so many great food choices in the town of Rehoboth Beach, I think this one does not make the list for a return visit. read more
