Went to downtown Café today after church 10-15, 2023 around noon. We ended up getting a table outside in the back the only high table that's there. There was a group of girls there celebrating a birthday, approximately 30 years old. One of the girls in this group had a very foul mouth and was very loud dropping F bombs constantly and being very rude to the staff. Complaining about everything including the food and the sun. Finally a girl who looks like she worked there, but was not wearing the shirts like the waitresses had the staff move the table to rearrange it out of the sun. The foul language continued our order took a long time. We got our cottage cheese and toast 20 minutes before our food came. One of the other waitresses came over to our table and wanted to make sure everything was OK we said yes but we're just been waiting for a Food for a long time. He went in our food came out right away. When our food came out I had ordered my omelet with no potatoes and a grilled jalapeño. I had potatoes and no jalapeño. I went in and spoke to what look like the manager behind the grill and explained our situation he said he would bring them jalapeños right out they did come out. At that point we just wanted to hurry up and eat and get out of there the foul language continued the girl who came out to move the table who I think works. There came out and chugged a Mimosa with the girls at the table. foul language continued other people around. We're all looking at each other like they couldn't believe this was going on. Before leaving I did go up to the same manager who is behind the grill and explained what was going on at that table and how it was very rude and obnoxious. The Foulmouth girl was very rude to the staff to so I'm sure they probably said something to the manager, but nothing was done. He said he would go back and check it out. We left. I did notice that in the title of the restaurant now it says by JL I'm wondering if there's been a management change ownership changed because the owners we met would never have allow that to happen. So far, very good! Been there twice now and the breakfast dishes I ordered were very good. Had the Mexican pancakes, eggs & bacon. The Mexican pancakes were delicious. I don't like bland. They came out hot with the eggs scrambled and bacon crisp just the way I like them. Tried the cinnamon bun french toast 2nd time going there. Also, delicious! The service is very good, prompt and friendly. Love that in the morning. Hope Downtown Cafe does well! We will be back to check out more items on the menu. I LOVE supporting small businesses whenever I can. So when I saw that this location was under new ownership I was excited to try it. This maybe the third attempt at establishing a successful restaurant at this specific location. Plenty of breakfast options. I was craving pancakes and tried the international tour which has 4 different flavored pancakes. I was disappointed. Nothing to really rave about. Also ordered a caramel coffee which we believed was going to have a design created in the foam as pictured but that was not the case. Paid $15 for four mediocre pancakes and $6 for a coffee. My husband's go to is chicken fried steak and he was also disappointed. read more

Scrambled eggs arrived cold, breakfast potatoes were undercooked, over easy eggs were underdone and the whites were liquidy. Waffles were dry and crumbly. Service was slow. Big let down. I am vegetarian and was served meat with my food twice despite it not saying it included any with the Chile verde huevos rancheros. The second time I was served there were little bits of bacon and ham chopped up in my potatoes. Almost felt let it was done on purpose. Never coming back! read more

I went with my wife and daughter and had a horrible server who was very rude no refills and got our drinks wrong she brought my wife and daughters food and didint being mine I had to ask the owner for my food that was the Ensenada fish tacos and when it came it was horrible! The fries were just frozen fries for the prices should be way better. They did take the tacos off the bill but honestly the whole experience was so bad I will never go back! read more

I cannot recommend. I ordered a BLT on whole wheat and received a BLT on white and the bread fell apart. The garden salad had cheddar cheese on top, not to my liking. The owner came over to our table a few times stating he had the best food (no comment). read more

2.5 stars...its as basic as a breakfast place gets. Eggs, pancakes, coffee. Their churro waffle was nice and the churros were fresh. I also enjoyed their iced mocha, it was delicious. If im being honest that's all that stood out. My mom ordered some sourdough on the side and it was just white bread. The butter they gave us was as yellow as an egg yolk, it was definitely NOT real butter. The dressing on the ceasar salad had to have been from a bottle. Their orange juice was freshly squeezed so that was good as well. Other than that its like going to any dennys or ihop. read more

We were seated right away and staff was pleasant. Ordered the Chili Verde Omelet and was surprised that you didn't get potatoes and toast. Choice of one. Chose English muffin for an additional $2.99, barely toasted and buttered on half. Same with toast, 2 pieces and only one buttered. Glass of orange juice $7.99. Way to spendy for us. We enjoyed our breakfast this morning. We sat on the cute patio lined with succulents and plants. We were greeted and sat very quickly. Our server was so wonderful. The food was delicious. We'll definitely be back! Love this area in downtown Oxnard. read more

Solid with a great selection. We had a kids meal, omelette and fish tacos with beer and wine. Baja style tacos were the best. The other items were solid but underwhelming. The wine was not good and definitely not worth $8 for a tiny glass. Service was earnest. Nice patio, super clean, dog friendly, with nice tunes. Poor service. About three weeks ago my husband and I went there to have breakfast. There was a big party of about 15, two parties of three people and us waiting. The hostess told us that it would be about 10 minute wait. We waited for about 20 minutes and I notice that only the big party got seated. Suddenly a man got there and went directly to the person incharge of seating, gave her a hug and asked her if there was a table for him. She answered him in Spanish "PARA TI, SIEMPRE " (FOR YOU, ALWAYS) She proceeded to seat the man and his group of friends (4). Disregarding the rest of us who had been waiting. At that point I went up to the hostes and pointed out her lack of professionalism, grabed the pen out of her hand and crossed my name off. I was unaware that I had to know someone there in order to be able to get service. (Wish I could give it zero stars) read more

VERY DISSAPOINTED--I went on Friday night to celebrate Mexican independence. From the beginning the waiter was slow to serve. I order a beer, finish it, I wanted to order a second one, but the waiter was not paying much attention to our table. I had to get up and find him to get another beer. Then, we order our mexican meals. I order chicken mole, the beens were sweet--that is a no go. I expect Mexican food spicy not sweet. I order hat saude-chile--there was nothing on the table. I was brought something red and not spicy at all. I asked for something hotter, same thing. They did not have tabasco, tamazula, nothing. Even anglo restaurants have at least tabasco. The food was very disappointing, no taste. Very bad service. the waiter did not pick up our plates until the we were ready to leave. I was invited by a friend because was to be a mariachi, so the meal was 60 plus drinks. On top of that this place dare to charge us gratuity. I disagree with restaurants taking you money in this very disrespectful way. I am the consumer and I should decide how much to compensate. Since the service was lousy, I would not give 18%--that how much they took from all of us. I feel like I was robbed. I will not set foot in that place ever--very dissatisfied overall read more

First time here. There were 8 of us & only 2 enjoyed their meal without having to wait for it, send it back because the order was wrong, or just forced to eat fearing the staff would do something to it because we already had problems with the food. My Mom's pork chops were so dry we could barely cut through it. Myself & me niece ordered pancakes & paid $1.99 extra for fresh fruit topping. I ordered blueberry, my niece strawberry. When the order came out we both received fresh fruit rolling around the plate. We would have ordered fresh fruit plate if we wanted that. Usually fresh fruit topping is the fruit reduced & served with a think on top of the pancakes. Almost like fruit in syrup. Mine, my niece's & my Mom's over medium egg yolks were so dry, almost like hard boiled egg. They served my Mom the wrong plate which she started on because she was hungry. She forgot what she originally ordered. Then they brought her the correct order & placed it by her. We realized that first plate was someone else in our party. The waiter gives that plate to the correct person wanting her to eat it. She asked for a new one because my Mom had eaten off of it. When she received her plate we had all finished eating. She said after all that wait her food was terrible!!! Our bill was $275.87 with only 2 of us enjoying the entire meal. Won't ever go back!!! read more
