I've been here twice, and both times have been great. The food has been really good. My first time there, my sister and I split chilaquiles and an order of French toast because we couldn't decide on one thing! Today I got fish tacos that come with a delicious sauce, maybe a chipotle type of sauce? Also, I think they may have the best micheladas in Oxnard. My family took me to lunch to celebrate my birthday and they brought out a delicious guava pastry that I'm still thinking about lol. I haven't even mentioned the service!! My husband informed me of this place. We tried it on a Saturday. Love the fact that they offer Lattes ! I had two during our visit. I ordered the chilaquiles en Salsa Verde. So good ! I'm not a big chilaquiles person but I was craving tortillas. My husband ordered the French toast. He was equally satisfied. Our girls also eat their entire breakfast with a glass of chocolate milk and apple juice. Our waitress was super friendly and really knew the menu. Since they just started we did have to wait for our lattes for a bit due to not having enough cups. But we totally understood. My husband just informed me they also have dinner options. We didn't realize this location had opened again under new ownership. We went for breakfast and the selection was quite large, the food preparation and presentation was very nice and the staff went out of their way to be of help. OMG....... OMG.. out of towner looking for a decent breakfast spot for me and the siblings. This one cam up on yelp based on proximity, and it was fate. The owner greeted us quickly and just full of life suggested the special of the day which was crabs benedict amongst other fabulous entrees .... My sister took him up in his offer , while I dared to be venturous with the "ChileQuilas"?? And my brother took his usual steak and eggs . Upon receiving our respective plates lemme tell you the visuals at that moment ... Spectacular!!! My sister mentioned to me she's had Benedict's a lot else where but nothing compared to this .. she loved it... as for my ChileQuilas , I dusted the whole thing with no remorse , flavors just bursting all over .. Owner was a generous Hispanic gentleman came by to check on us and gave us a little story about his early years in the business , it was entertaining and offered us free items to elevate our eating experience .. I gotta say my dish was out of this world with pork and the green sauce ... in my Hawaiian terms the food was " Broke da mouf" exceptional... Breakfast is phenomenal! Lunch however is a different story. I ordered the BBQ chicken salad and I was thoroughly disappointed. It's made with the cheap bagged salad you find at the grocery store, 4 slices of cucumbers, maybe 1/4 C corn, and 1/8 avocado. God only knows what the chicken was covered in, it's most definitely not BBQ sauce, it was a super sweet sauce...yuck!! The ranch in all fairness was good. read more

This place is the definition of lazy. Service is very slow and food doesn't taste like it was made with any effort. I'm a server myself so I understand how hard it can be for restaurants, so I try not to be rude or anything. But when your server doesn't introduce herself, gets my order wrong, then just disappears without a word. Then it just gets ridiculous. The owners look like they don't know how to run a restaurant and it shows. You probably only come here for the looks. I definitely would have been better off going to in n out for lunch. Came here for chicken and waffles, only to find out they changed it to tenders instead of actual chicken thighs and breasts. I ended up ordering a burger, which was VERY bitter due to the burnt residue from the grill. The server was very nice and handled the situation very well. read more

Over all the food is good, clean restaurant, and the staff and servers are nice. I came here with my boyfriend for brunch. The champagne in their mimosas is cheap. I had two glasses, which ordinarily is never an issue for me in general. I had a bad headache all day and could not sleep well. It took about 72 hours for the headache to subside. Went to downtown Café today after church 10-15, 2023 around noon. We ended up getting a table outside in the back the only high table that's there. There was a group of girls there celebrating a birthday, approximately 30 years old. One of the girls in this group had a very foul mouth and was very loud dropping F bombs constantly and being very rude to the staff. Complaining about everything including the food and the sun. Finally a girl who looks like she worked there, but was not wearing the shirts like the waitresses had the staff move the table to rearrange it out of the sun. The foul language continued our order took a long time. We got our cottage cheese and toast 20 minutes before our food came. One of the other waitresses came over to our table and wanted to make sure everything was OK we said yes but we're just been waiting for a Food for a long time. He went in our food came out right away. When our food came out I had ordered my omelet with no potatoes and a grilled jalapeño. I had potatoes and no jalapeño. I went in and spoke to what look like the manager behind the grill and explained our situation he said he would bring them jalapeños right out they did come out. At that point we just wanted to hurry up and eat and get out of there the foul language continued the girl who came out to move the table who I think works. There came out and chugged a Mimosa with the girls at the table. foul language continued other people around. We're all looking at each other like they couldn't believe this was going on. Before leaving I did go up to the same manager who is behind the grill and explained what was going on at that table and how it was very rude and obnoxious. The Foulmouth girl was very rude to the staff to so I'm sure they probably said something to the manager, but nothing was done. He said he would go back and check it out. We left. I did notice that in the title of the restaurant now it says by JL I'm wondering if there's been a management change ownership changed because the owners we met would never have allow that to happen. So far, very good! Been there twice now and the breakfast dishes I ordered were very good. Had the Mexican pancakes, eggs & bacon. The Mexican pancakes were delicious. I don't like bland. They came out hot with the eggs scrambled and bacon crisp just the way I like them. Tried the cinnamon bun french toast 2nd time going there. Also, delicious! The service is very good, prompt and friendly. Love that in the morning. Hope Downtown Cafe does well! We will be back to check out more items on the menu. Scrambled eggs arrived cold, breakfast potatoes were undercooked, over easy eggs were underdone and the whites were liquidy. Waffles were dry and crumbly. Service was slow. Big let down. I am vegetarian and was served meat with my food twice despite it not saying it included any with the Chile verde huevos rancheros. The second time I was served there were little bits of bacon and ham chopped up in my potatoes. Almost felt let it was done on purpose. Never coming back! read more

I went with my wife and daughter and had a horrible server who was very rude no refills and got our drinks wrong she brought my wife and daughters food and didint being mine I had to ask the owner for my food that was the Ensenada fish tacos and when it came it was horrible! I LOVE supporting small businesses whenever I can. So when I saw that this location was under new ownership I was excited to try it. This maybe the third attempt at establishing a successful restaurant at this specific location. Plenty of breakfast options. I was craving pancakes and tried the international tour which has 4 different flavored pancakes. I was disappointed. Nothing to really rave about. Also ordered a caramel coffee which we believed was going to have a design created in the foam as pictured but that was not the case. Paid $15 for four mediocre pancakes and $6 for a coffee.
