My friends and I came here Friday for brunch, we had to go back to work after so needed a place close by. Downtown Cafe is 5 minutes from where we work, so we decided to come here instead of going to Lumpy's. We all ordered breakfast. This place is cozy and although the tables were full, the noise level wasn't bad at all. Add to that, the service here is amazing and so friendly! The food was so good - I had the pancake breakfast below but not a fan of thick pancakes. Asked for flapjack style pancakes and they served them up perfectly! The pancakes were fluffy, hot and served with butter and syrup. Bacon was tasty and not overly salty, and the eggs were delicious! All of our orders were cooked as requested and here's how awesome the service was - one of my friends can't eat seeds, so they checked the toast and brought the bread out so that we could see it. Stopped by to try the cafe with my two adult daughters while they were in town. I'd heard good reviews so decided to give the place a try. The service was friendly. They were out of a few things, but that is honestly to be expected right after a holiday. The food was really good. We all enjoyed our meals. They forgot to put the avocado on my Veggie Benedict, but I'm sure if I had pointed it out, it would have been corrected. I liked the casual atmosphere. My husband and I finally had the chance to try this new place and we absolutely loved it. It was pretty busy but we didn't have to wait too long to be seated. Our server was friendly and attentive. We live in Antioch and trust me, the drive is so well worth it to downtown Pittsburgh to visit this hidden gem ! The portions are large, the country red potatoes served with breakfast are excellent, along with refills of tasty hot coffee as we request ! Was in town and would usually go to our old spot the Mecca but decided to come here for breakfast to try it out and support other businesses in the area and also because of the reviews I read. Bad decision! Horrible/dry/unpleasant/unprofessional/not welcoming customer service. Food was ok, I would rate 2-3 of 5 stars. The place was alright, but the customer service from the waiter is absolutely a Zero+. Felt like I was eating breakfast at a bar with his loud mouth and didn't even care to check if I needed a refill or anything. Noticed that he didn't care to check up on anyone else too. Next time for sure I will just go to my usual place The New Mecca or Lumpys which is just a walk away. If you wanna have a great meal and great customer service, DONT COME HERE! It was my first visiting for breakfast with my family. There was 5 of us and there were plenty of tables available inside and outside. We sat inside because it was a little cold for outside. We came here on a Sunday just before 9am for breakfast. It was not very busy just yet so we came at a good time. The service was awesome and they checked in on use routinely to refill our coffee and make sure there wasn't anything else we needed. The menu had a lot of options which is nice to see, so you are sure to find something you like. The ambiance is a true downtown cafe/classic diner feel. The food came out amazing with very little wait time, and way better than those large chain breakfast places. I unfortunately didn't get a chance to try their biscuits as I was told they ran out already, but hey that's just another reason to come back and try again. They just opened Feb 2024 but is well on their way of becoming a hometown staple. read more

I dont know if we caught the cook on a bad day, or if we just got there too early. But I ordered a crab benedict and my wife ordered steak and eggs. Both of our plates had NO FLAVOR. Came here on a Monday morning as a last minute resort as my original choice of restaurant was closed for Presidents' Day. The place is small but there were a few open tables. I was told I could pick a table and sit anywhere. The server was very polite but he seemed to be the only server and therefore pretty busy. I ordered the fruit and sausage with a latte. Unfortunately I was informed they could not make the latte so I opted for regular coffee instead. My friend ordered the fruit, and muffin. Unfortunately they were not serving muffins, so she opted for a coffee cake. The server showed us the coffee cake (which was in a refrigerator, in plastic wrap in an undated container along with a jug of milk, some other cream, and other various items) to confirm if it was still wanted. The cake being in the refrigerator (which is oddly located right near the table area not the kitchen) unmarked, just seemed a bit sketchy to me. My friend decided to just try it anyway. Our food came and I discovered my fruit was not fresh, and contained mold (as pictured). I wanted to get up and leave but my friend was nervous to "cause any trouble". I reluctantly ate my sausage and drank my coffee, not bad. My friend stated the coffee cake was okay as well. I asked the server to please take off the fruit and explained the mold situation. The server did take it off the bill, and said he was sorry about that. I tipped the server and paid for the rest of the items. I will not return, as I do not think their food quality and safety protocols are adequate. read more

To start, the food was ok, not very flavorful, but wasnt bad. Pancakes were tough. We ordered the special as well, which was fajitas omelet, again,not very much flavor, has to smother it in hot sauce. This stuff alone wouldnt make me rate it poorly if the pricing wasnt to high, but it was quite expensive for what it was, i could have eaten at Lumpys a few doors down with a lot of flavor, and its cheaper. But as i said, i got the fajitas omelet, it said on the sign in the front, 17.00, when billed, i got charged 18.71. And i thought 17 was expensive for an omelet, then overcharging made it worse. So its over 20 a person to eat here with drinks, plus when they give you toast, normally a place gives you 2, this place only gives you 1 slice of toast, so u run out way before you get done with your plate. The thing that added a star for me was the servers were nice. Though i did not get a refill til the very end when i had to flag em down, considering how small it is, seems odd to not check on it. Also we sat there done for about 10-15 min after receiving boxes, and no bill, so i just had to walk up to the register and tell them what table. This one specific Server works too fast. I went with my mother and grandparents. He skipped over my mom's drink order and went to grab only mine and my grandparents. Once he got my mom's order he brought it to the table, but since he was working too fast it caused him to spill it. Tried out breakfast in Sunday after church with a group of 8!!! Although place is small, they were able to accommodate our group pretty quick! Our server was friendly and smiled a lot. Breakfast was great. I had pancakes and eggs and bacon. Food was good and I loved the pancakes. Other's tried different breakfast items and everyone was satisfied with their meals.
