No better breakfast or brunch! I love everything but their quiche is always special and soooo good! They serve their great potato casserole with your meals and you'll love it!! The service s always good and it a nice cozy place to relax or meet friends! Outside patio is great but not in cold weather, can't wait till they open the inside for eating next week!! It's very small inside, so get there early or you could wait a bit. read more

Very small restaurant with an intriguing but not outlandish menu and someone in the kitchen who is a dab hand with an egg poacher. We only ate there for breakfast but I'm assured that lunch is great as well. The three of us kept eyeing each others' plates and thinking "Boy, that sure smells good." Will be sure to make another visit the next time I'm in town. read more

The seating area itself is very small- seats maybe 30 people but the wait went really quick on a Saturday morning! For a table for two we waited maybe 10 minutes. I had the German apple pancakes with bacon and had only one complaint- they left the skin on the apples which left a weird mouthfeel (the skins separated after being cooked) and a cup of coffee. Everything was great and all the food that came out looked delish! I also liked that they have pumpernickel bread as on option! This place is adorable, fast and friendly service and great food. I would definitely come back and recommend this place! read more

Every time I'm back in Rochester, I make it a point to have breakfast or lunch at Downtown cafe. The food has always been delicious. This is the kind of place you can count on for your meal to always be beyond par. Typically if you go during busy times then you have to wait outside, which I can see being terrible in the winter - people usually crowd the inside then. The patio is great when it's nice outside. The owner is always there working and he is very friendly. He has a good eye for help since all of his staff is very friendly as well. 5/5 stars was an easy decision. read more

This is the best place in the Rochester area for breakfast! The interior is very small with only a few tables. Therefore there is always a wait. Expect it people. It's worth it! When I see people balk and head to the local coney, I laugh at them. They are missing out on a great breakfast. The service is always fantastic and the owner is in the trenches helping out. When I put my name on the list for a table, he hands me a hot cup of coffee. As for the food... I am addicted to the Michigan pancakes. Everything on the menu, including a few varieties of french toast (like creme brulee) and quiches are fantastic, but I can't stop ordering my pancakes. The Michigan pancakes are baked with apples, walnuts and dried cheeries. So good! The side of bacon adds to the greatness of the meal. I love this place! read more

Small cute spot in downtown Rochester. They do get busy, both times I went were on weekdays once on a Thursday and the other a Wednesday and both times there was a wait. We went for brunch on our anniversary - a sunny autumn Sunday. There was a wait, but their estimate was very accurate - they said 30 minutes and it was 35. While we waited, we took a short walk through the Rochester City Park. We ordered two specials - the crème brulee French toast with Canadian bacon, and a fresh tomato and basil omelette with dill Havarti - came with toast and potatoes. Always good food! We had fantastic service. I think his name was Josh? I don't remember but what an excellent waiter. Corn beef hash was spot on how it should be. The chorizo hash was great but not with the usually kick I'm accustomed to in a chorizo. Besides that just delicious and fresh food! Since I'm gluten sensitive and could not have toast the tomato slices were ripe just right. Fantastic good meal with a good friend in town. Love coming to downtown cafe read more

Total surprise and unexpected pleasure. To start with the front door is at the side of the building. You really have to know what you're doing to park. It's almost hidden. But the outdoor eating area is nice. Indoor is another story. Decor is an afterthought. It's almost like being at the "chef's table", sitting in the kitchen area. However, the food is so delicious, you don't care. We had the brunch. The Creme brûlée French Toast with a fruit compote was really a bread pudding. It was a good 2 to 3 inches thick and tasted heavenly. Had to ask for the whipped cream on top. It's normally served without. The pancakes and fresh fruit was also fantastic. Will definitely make the trip again and suggest you give it a try. You won't regret it. read more

The place is small, 9 tables and the decor is straight out from the 70's. The waitress was nice, the food sucked. We had the #2, eggs were not true eggs the bacon was burnt and super oily. The potatoes were dry and flavorless and finally the English muffin was hard. Overall, not impressed and won't be coming back. We like to support small businesses but this one unfortunately didn't make the mark. read more

This is one of the best breakfast experiences I've had out in a while! I was really craving homey diner food- this is the place to go. The staff were so friendly and the restaurant is adorable. It is small and incredibly cozy. The wait was not that long, and my friend and I didn't feel rushed (in fact, they offered us both more coffee even after we had finished the meal). I had the farmer's omelet and a buttermilk pancake on the side. Both were fantastic! I will definitely be coming here more often!! read more

Best brunch place hands down. Had the chorizo hash today and it was SO good. The owner greets the customer at the door, he comes around to the tables and makes the cozy restaurant feel like home. While running a few errands on the east side, we found ourselves hungry for breakfast. Thanks to our fellow Yelpers, we found this gem at the north end of Rochester's main drag. At 11am on a Saturday I was worried we would be waiting a while, but this tiny cafe is a well run machine. A friendly gentleman took our names and helped his servers care for their guests. Refilling waters, busing tables, he was making tables turn quickly and we waited maybe five minutes. We tried the baked creme brûlée french toast and the southwest scramble. Our tactic at breakfast is to get something sweet and something savory so we can have both when we share. The baked french toast melted in your mouth. Not too sweet, so the caramel flavor and mixed berries complimented each other nicely. The portion was a nice size- I was full but not stuffed. The southwest scramble was light and fluffy, the chorizo was tasty and not too spicy. Served with a generous dollop of sour cream and two pieces of jalapeño cornbread, my hubby make short work of his meal. Our food came out within ten minutes of ordering and our server was very attentive. Between him and the other gentleman checking on tables overall, we didn't want for anything. Loved the experience of a small cafe snuggled away, especially given the snowy weather of the day. I'm not in this area too often but this place will stay at the top of my list for breakfast and lunch when I am. Keep up the great work! read more

HIDDEN GEM OF DOWNTOWN ROCHESTER! I came here on a Saturday morning (no wait) and I was already super impressed just reading the menu. We ordered scrambles and they came within ten minutes. The staff was all really nice and attended to us well. Our meals were $20 all together, which was super fair for how good our meals were! I ordered a couple apps -- the Brussels sprouts and the boom boom shrimp. The Brussel sprouts were a touch over for me with the meat not quite being crispy enough, but that didn't stop the rest of my table from finishing them. The boom boom shrimp was delicious -- I found the spice-level completely appropriate for something I'm expecting to have 'a touch of spice' while my husband found zero spice. Would order the shrimp again. They did away with the breadbasket of yesteryears and switched to real, cut, French bread with whipped butter! I had the French onion soup which came last to the table and I wasn't mad at that as it was HOT -- thank you! My friend ordered the tuna on sourdough which was perfect with beautifully crispy fries. And my husband ordered a giant burger, that had the perfect cook on it! Overall, we had a lovely time. The wait staff were also extremely delicate and respectful in nudging us to let us know there was a massive line waiting for our table (something we didn't realize as we were chatting and catching up).

The menu changes every 6-12 months to keep things fresh, although it can be disappointing if you have a favorite. This time I ordered the Dry-Aged Half Duck À L'Orange, while my wife ordered the Pappardelle Pasta. The Duck was cooked perfectly and was a great value around $32. The menu has a variety from pizzas and burgers to steaks, lamb chops, halibut, and even the occasional vegan option (e.g., Vegan Scallops). Try a margarita flight or a smoked old fashioned, or a nice glass of wine. They have plenty to choose from. Lastly, I must mention the service..
