    Matcha latte
    Kayla T.

I work in the area so I decided to give this spot a try seeing that they advertise matcha. And I was very surprised to find that after you order it they whisk the matcha right in front of you. I love that they put the time and effort into doing that since most places don't. The staff are very friendly and this shop is very small but cute. I would definitely recommend if you are in the area and want a delicious unsweetened matcha.

Best espresso drink I've had in Honolulu. They roast their own and I believe it's all Hawaii grown. Very friendly service even in the early am. Will definitely return next time I'm in town.

3.5 stars. I was on a mission to seek out all the good coffee spots on Oahu and since I was in Chinatown, this was one of my stops. I am always on the lookout for something unique that isn't found elsewhere, and at Downtown Coffee, it was the Caramel Cream Cappuccino. It was smooth and sweet (even at less sweet). The coffee tasted like medium roast and wasn't too strong.

Their coffee and pastries are so good. I work in downtown so I go there sometimes to get coffee. Their iced mocha latte is my favorite and their kona coffee chocolate is really delicious too! I tried their ube cheesecake bar recently and it was also very yummy.

Looking for authentic small business Hawaiian coffee this is the place! Smooth and rich come to mind as I sip my maple white chocolate mocha. So good! Owner works here too and is very knowledgeable about coffee. He roasts the coffee every Saturday! Serious stuff and knows what he is doing. Great stop on your way in or out of Waikiki. Ham and cheese croissant comes from a local bakery down the street - 2 Dudes? I think. Really good! Outside seating next to water feature was nice. Parking not hard to find. It's metered and uses coins. Lucky I had some. $3.00 for one hour. I would recommend this place if you are in the area.

I just tried their caramel cappuccino, another shop to grab coffee in town. So good :)

Downtown Coffee is an awesome Hawaiian Coffee business located in Pioneer Plaza. I try to stop by every time I'm in Oahu. I've checked out other coffee shops on the island, but nothing is ever as good as a cup from here! On my most recent visit I had the 100% Kona Latte. Very smooth & tastes great. I always prefer a locally owned business over a chain & highly recommend Downtown Coffee.

Downtown Coffee...simpllicity ends with there. Located in Pioneer Plaza this cute little nook doesn't look much from outside but once you enter it's mind-blowing to see all the goodness that happens here. There are two doors though one is for entrance and the other for exit so be mindful as this place is quite small so keeping your six feet space is respectful. First of all you'll see a roaster, yup they roast their beans now how cool is that! There's also a rack filled with various mugs, tumblers and various accessories a display case filled with baked goods and grab and go drinks not to mention their drink menu with incredible offerings from your traditional Latte, Chai, Mocha, Matcha and Italian Soda...it's the quality they put in each up is something you'll know with that first sip. Currently they do have some seasonal items (Gingerbread Latte, Eggnog Latte, Peppermin Mocha and Maple Affogato) was tempting but seeing they use Japanese Matcha was something I couldn't pass. Alternate dairy options (Almond, Coconut, Oat or Soy) is available with a bunch of syrups including sugar free is nice! I've heard much about their Matcha Torte that's made with their Japanese Matcha with a bamboo charcoal crust was yummy, not too sweet but just the right matcha flavor I loved. There are a few tables outside scattered around the area all nice and clean made it a nice break spot which I needed to do some deep thinking and breathe, it was totally needed and appreciated to have spots like this and worked wonders as I got back on my feet and got my adulting errands done. Thank you!

Great coffee, Decided to walk downtown since the power is restored and spend some money at some places and this is the 1st place we stopped at. Fresh roasted coffee and made to order. Will be back again.

We love our keurig and nespresso, but once in a while we get inspired to craft a cup - I'm talking hand ground beans and aero press style. The beans from Downtown make a superior cup of coffee-deeply rich and smooth. You know that aroma you get from squeezing that bag of beans? Imagine a hot cup of that.. downtown blend has that toasted marshmallow finish I love. Don't be put off by the prices- a 3 oz bag of beans seems manini but will make you several cups. Mail order process was easy ( confirmation number was crazy long). Order was received in a week. Looking forward to an inperson visit next trip.

    Great welcoming vibe!

Every time I come out to see my parents, I stop here and pick up a pound of coffee to take back to the mainland. He: You know you can order online and we can ship to you. Me: Yes, but this makes it much more special! On my last visit in August, the owner told me that the Mokka from Maui was really good, and I took him up on that. It is the most flavorful coffee I've bought in all the times I've bought coffee when I'm out here. Perfectly balanced with a chocolatey finish. Since I was out here for over a week, I bought a pound for myself to brew, and a pound to take back to the mainland. I've also bought coffee drinks here too, and they've always been consistent. Great place to come to! Mahalo Downtown!

Waialua peaberry pourover, tasty. Sweetness, caramel, red earthiness, hint of dry floral and darker citrus/plum.

Sadly, it seemed more folks were there for the pastries though. First off, I'm surprised I found such a fabulous cup of coffee in what feels like the epicenter of tourist life on this island. While visiting another island nearly establishment had signage stating they served Kona and/or Hawaiian coffee, but nearly every establishment's coffee was absolutely awful. Seeing the location I fully expected them to phone in the coffee, but it's clear that coffee comes first here, even if many of the guests are trying to get pastries! You'll be shocked by the line, but just know the staff is efficient and it moves fast. They offer a variety of their own locally roasted beans here, with options for batch brew, espresso drinks and even pour overs (impressive considering the volume of customers). The coffees are well described and the baristas have the additional knowledge you may be seeking when you order, and all in all this went as quickly as I could have expected. Truly, the coffee was delightful, and the fact I was drinking a hot drink on an extremely hot day didn't even phase me. I wanted so badly to bring home a bag of each one, but given that everything is more expensive in Hawaii, these were all 4x the price of the specialty coffee I buy on the mainland and I just couldn't make it happen. What will happen is me telling everyone to visit this shop when they're in Hawaii because it is 100% worth it. Won't you consider opening one in Reno NV?
