Absolute Best! I was on a trip with some friends in the @Eug2baja3000. Our van Magic Monte had a transmission failure 50 miles from Vegas. I had it towed to Rigo's shop on a Friday night and met with him Saturday morning. This trip is a scavenger hunt type race from Eugene to Ensenada in cars we purchase for less than 3k. We were in a crunch to get the van repaired or replaced and continue on in time with the other teams. Well this is where Rigo and his team came in. I had a day for him to replace or rebuild the transmission. Honestly, he didn't have time to do complete our job but after talking to his guys he said they would check it out. I was so worried we would at minimum spend another night in Vegas while the other teams continued on and at worse need to fly home. Rigo and straight forward, honest, and understanding from the beginning. I had a good feeling. I received a text from him Sunday morning saying the Van was repaired and he just needed to road test it. Rigo and his guys saved our trip!!! I brought my 97 Expedition to Americas Garage to get checked out before I tow to Alaska and my truck coincidentally gets stuck in 4lo at their shop and they wanted $3200 to put in a reman transfer case. Accidents happen but this was weird who knows. They were shady and trying to rip me off, wanted $1600 to do my ignition coils also..... I found Rigo when I was searching for another shop to replace my transfer case and he had my truck towed out of the first place and got a reman transfer case in for a fraction of the price. This whole ordeal started with, well an ordeal. Thankfully I found Downtown Transmission. Late on a Saturday night I returned to Vegas, retrieved my car from the airport parking lot and was promptly on my way. That is until I got out onto Flamingo Road. All of a sudden, the Dodge Durango I was driving, stopped moving. I am by no means an automobile expert, but I was fairly sure it was the transmission. After nursing the vehicle to a less crowded resting place, I contacted roadside assistance and had it towed to the closest Dodge dealer. They confirmed what I had suspected. The transmission was shot. I was told a brand new tranny would actually be cheaper than rebuilding it. The bad news was they couldn't get a new transmission for approximately three months. The dealer's cost to rebuild ... $4,400. What?!?! My cost to figure that out was $165. Ouch! A friend at work tells me "I've got a guy." We've all heard that before, right? He tells me to call Rigo at Downtown Transmission and adds the guy is top notch and is up front with the pricing. I explained to Rigo what was going on and he concurred, the transmission was probably shot. Rigo said they would obviously run their own diagnostic test, at no charge, and see if any sort of repair was possible. I was able to nurse the Durango across town and into their driveway before it gave way again. Rigo confirmed the transmission was shot and also confirmed a brand new one would not be available for quite some time. I was told Downtown Transmission could rebuild it for under $3,000, well under what the dealer wanted. Not only did they rebuild the transmission, complete with a warranty, the guys at Downtown Transmission found what had caused the problem in the first place, which a dealer failed to catch during an inspection months ago. Rigo kept me updated throughout the repair process, making the whole ordeal a little more tolerable. When it came time to pick the chariot up, I was unavoidably detained. Rigo stayed late on a Friday night, enabling me to get my vehicle back and avoid another Uber ride or begging co-workers for a lift. It's been a lifetime dream of mine to drive across country, and this week I set out from the west coast, the open road full of promise before me. Until about an hour outside Las Vegas. My car lost power, my transmission wasn't shifting, the east coast suddenly seemed impossibly far. I limped into several a shops, all of them turned me away until I rumbled into this place. Although he seemed busier than the rest of the shops, Rigo pauses his projects and went on a diagnostic test drive in my failing Volvo wagon. He was very knowledgeable and pinpointed the several issues right away. You know what really gives me a warm fuzzy feelIng? When a mechanic talks me out of making repairs. Which is exactly what Rigo did. He advised I give up on the 230k mile v50, and try and limp back home to Santa Cruz. He sent me on my way with a little peace of mind and no charge. I don't write to many reviews, but I thought one was well warranted in this case when I saved over $1,000 when I brought my car to Rigo at Downtown Transmission. After noticing noises in my 2006 Maxima's transmission, I thought it was time to take it in for a transmission diagnostic test. I first took the car to a nearby garage called Adams Auto Center who told me it would need a remanufactured transmission at a cost of $2,500. My second estimate was Downtown Transmission where Rigo told be it was just the transmission's valve body that would cost about half that amount. I didn't even bring the car in for my customary third estimate and was grateful to be saving $1,200. Rigo had the car done in a day and it has been running great ever since then. If you want to save time and money, I hardly recommend getting an estimate from Rigo if you have transmisson problems. read more

I as well know Rigo, I First met him over 20 years ago at Pro Transmissions and have had transmissions successfully rebuilt by Rigo and his brother on my 1973&1975 early model chevy company shop trucks. Recently last year 2021, I had my 2011 Ram diesel with an auto transmission in need of some transmission repair. I was able to locate "Rigo" from another local mechanic. I went into his shop with a check engine lite on regarding the transmission. Rigo hooked it up to his computer,then test drove it and determined my transmission needed a complete rebuild which he promptly gave me a quote and I agreed to have the rebuild done. As promised,my truck was completed and I paid the invoice in full. moving forward 6-8 months I noticed a noise and a hesitation at times in shifting.I drove to downtown transmission to speak to Rigo,I explained my concerns and asked if he could get me in to remove the pan and inspect the fluid to see if any signs of a problem could be seen! He responded,dont worry and that it would be fine, and it didn't have enough miles on it to warrant draining the fluids. Fast forward to May 2022. I was called to travel to California for a work related project, while driving I started hearing more noise from the transmission. I exited the freeway and got under my truck to try to identify where the noise is coming from. I found a bolt was missing on the transmission inspection cover. This cover protects the torque converter that turns with the transmission and flex plate. After installing the missing bolt i noticed the noise was less,however it was still there. I drove directly to ABC auto care in Ventura Ca for inspection. After inspection,they found that not only was an inspection cover bolt missing,but there were bolts completely missing from the flex plate and torque converter. At this point I called "Rigo" directly on his cell phone and told him who I was and explained what had happened. He said since your in California and towing was not an option,to have ABC auto care make the repairs and he would reimburse me for the expenses. I sent "Rigo" the invoice for repairs and heard crickets!! So I drove back from California to meet him at the shop to discuss reimbursement. When I met Rigo, I asked if he had the invoice and if he cared to inspect the parts that were damaged due to his mechanics failure to reinstall all the proper bolts or to torque them to the proper factory specifications. Rigo's response was, "Its Not my Problem"!! I replied,you told me to cover the expenses and you would reimburse me and now you say its NOT your problem! Rigo reponded that he had found "SOMETHING" on the Internet that would prove hes not responsible and he would send it for me to read. "IT NEVER CAME" Moving forward with small claims in Clark County Nv. Im currently owed $3614.03 for transmission repairs $471.02 Rental car expense Total Due $4085.05 I will keep you all updated as the court decides "Rigos" fate! read more

I recently moved to Las Vegas from California and had been traveling back and forth. I had noticed that my car had been incapable of accelerating so I took it to the nearest jiffy lube to find out what the issue was. They stated that my transmission had been leaking fluid and that I would need to find a transmission shop nearest me to resolve. I read the reviews for Rigo's establishment and spoken to him on the phone with seemingly more reassurance that he was ready and capable of handling the situation. Over the phone he advised me that he had been having issues with Hondas like mine before and it might just be a minor issue. So I took my car on a Thursday afternoon and he advised me that he would take a look at the car and would be able to run full a diagnostic and give me a prognosis by Friday afternoon. To which I had no problem with. I left feeling relieved. Friday came and no call. Still no problem. So I waited until Tuesday to call Rigo. I called multiple times from my phone and from my boyfriend's phone. He called my boyfriend's phone back and once he realized it was me, he said that he would need to call me back because he was working with a customer. Still, no problem. In the matter of a minute he called my cell phone and once again realizes it was me and then tells me that he will call me from another number and then never calls back or even return my call the following day. I'm not sure if he was too busy because he did have plenty of vehicles in the lot or was it a racial issue. Either way my car sat in his lot for 5 days not including the weekends with no update, no paper work, and no timeline for when the car would be looked at or even when the car would be done. I would have been completely understanding if I was given any ounce of information to what was going on. I was never upset just concerned because leaving my car with a business with no paperwork, no understanding of what timeline he needed, and no courtesy is completely unprofessional. I went to downtown transmission Wednesday the same week to get an idea of what was happening. To add I even tried to ask the employees very politely was there any work done to the car? Some of the employees were very rude and would not speak to me about my car because Rigo was not there. So I called AAA and towed my car to another transmission place. Only been to Downtown Transmission once. We had a feeling what was happening with our car was transmission related- and we were right. Due to the kind of car it was though, they were honest enough to give us the estimated cost to fix and explained it wouldn't be worth it due to the model/year of the car and were advised to just run it until we could find something new. They even cut the diagnostic fee in half since they couldn't help us further. Honest and helpful, it was a sad moment but we appreciated the truthfulness and advice given (anyone else could have tried to take our money even though they knew it wasn't worth it). read more

At 70 years old, I've been ripped off and lied to by every car repair place I've ever been to in the past 10 years, including the actual Toyota dealer where I purchased my car! If you don't at least try this place for any of your repair work, I promise you that you are not getting quality and guaranteed work...and you're 99% certain to be paying more than you should. I have no axe to grind with anyone. I'm just a senior citizen female tired of getting ripped off. That does NOT happen anymore since I was directed to Downtown Transmissions (ask for Rigo) and almost three years later, I still amazed they don't try to "upsell" me. This place is WONDERFUL. I have had car troubles for months, and my 2007 Mazda barely made it into Vegas after my transmission started leaking in the middle of the Mojave Desert. I was panicked when I arrived at this shop, until Rigo sat down and talked with me. He was very kind, and knew exactly what was wrong without even looking at the car. After running a diagnostic, he fixed the problem within minutes and told me how to prevent future issues on my roadtrip to Texas. When I asked how much I owed him, he said "just give me enough to buy my guys some beer later." I had a particularly difficult issue with the transmission on my 1998 1/2 Nissan Frontier. Rigo (correct spelling of his name BTW) and his crew were as tenacious as bulldogs. I had to return the truck to the shop a couple times, because it just wasn't shifting correctly. Plus, the dang check engine light kept coming back on. They would tweak it, but it just wasn't right. They finally realized that my truck was a "1/2 year" model, and there was an out of the ordinary part or parts that needed to be installed. Once they realized that, they reinstalled and reassembled - at no extra cost to me - the transmission. This truck runs better than it ever has, the shifting is smooth as silk, and through the whole thing Rigo was kind, reassuring, friendly and HONEST. It cost a lot less than others would have charged me, and the check engine light is finally OFF. Bring your transmission issues here, especially if your vehicle is older or needs special care.
