Delicious pastries -- the hardest part is picking a favorite! I was grateful that there was still a wide variety available around 10:30 on a Saturday, as I know sometimes the options at popular spots can get limited by late morning. The line moved quickly, and we picked a blueberry muffin and an herb & Parmesan croissant; both were really tasty. We also ordered espresso drinks, which were expertly made with Crema coffee beans. Ok wow! I'm a solid advocate for this place! It's reasonably priced and everything is soooo good. Granted I haven't had everything but everything I have had has been incredible. I doubt you could make a wrong choice here. Pecan bar (is that the name)? It's phenomenal! The flavor is muy bueno and it's so fluffy and delicious. Definitely recommend that! I also had a small split baguette with avocado and scrambled eggs. I can't even explain the goodness that ensued. Husband got the egg sandwich and said it was good. Must note if you're not an avid guac or avocado lover - my husband said it was too much on mine that he's probably just get split baguette with scrambled egg and bacon next time. Used to frequent, almost daily, 2018 or thereabouts. It's not their fault the parking/ crowd /neighborhood is ridiculous at this point and I rarely drive across town for their baguettes anymore. But what is 100% their discretion is service. After waiting 10 minutes in line, the six baguettes that were on the counter were withdrawn. Some miscalculation on their part, they needed them for something else. I needed 2 for a recipe. After an attempt to "steal one" (which does me no good, I told them i need 2) I was told they were also available at other retailers... shame, one of the best baguettes literally in the world. Have heard about this breakfast spot for quite awhile but just haven't made it. Our regular weekend breakfast buddies are gluten free and I was concerned it wouldn't work for them. However, since they are not seriously gluten free where any flour in their system would set them back, I venture to say this could work. Parking is not an issue, there is an open air lot next door and plenty of street parking as well. You wait in a line; servers bring food to your table. The line already starts your saliva going.... you are starting at baguettes, croissants, cookies, etc etc and the decision becomes tough. My husband and I ended up ordering the same thing - a large split baguette, buttered with avocado and topped with a scrambled egg. It was simple, yet so dang tasty. Plenty of scrambled egg cooked just right - not hard or dry at all. Coffee - $2.50 for a large great cup of Crema, one of Nashville's finest. And, of course, a cookie and a baguette "to go" (really the best baguette Nashville has to offer). So, back to the gluten free options. One could order scrambled eggs... they have soup, they have potatoes. And, they do have salad. Thinking they have bread and flour all over the place, I am thinking that is why they say no gluten free options. But, if this isn't a life threatening allergy to gluten, you will be just fine. I wish I knew how the coffee and pastries were but I'll never know. When I showed up I got in line outside for about 15 minutes. Once inside I did some simple math and realized it was going to take another 70 minutes to order a coffee and croissant. I had to leave. No croissant is worth 85 minutes of my time. I am obsessed with this little spot. When you are in need of some hangover food or just anything hearty and filling, this is the place to go. While it's always packed and the line is typically out the door, I can't get enough of the food. The split sandwich and the baguettes are truly to die for and I could eat them every day. I dropped off for a quick breakfast stop in between appointments. I ordered the blueberry muffin. It was very good. A large muffin with a crispy/sugary sprinkled top. A perfect companion to a cup of coffee. Adequately priced at $3. This is a good spot for a quick bite when you have limited time. I think it closes at 3pm, so don't arrive for a late afternoon break. Made an order for pies the day before by email. They said they make them fresh to order. Called next day and said they had them already made and ready but already made meaning maybe the night before ? not sure. Had me pay the invoice before seeing the pies .. said it would make the order easy to pick up. Went in with my 2 year old and had to wait 20 min for them to find my pie .. even though it was in a fridge on the shelf in front of them. Visited this bakery yesterday to grab some pastries for Mother's Day, after going to two other places that were sold out. Waited in line for a good 20-30 minutes. When it was finally our turn, the girl behind the counter was giving me and my husband such an attitude. Her attitude was such as if we were only allowed to purchase enough pastries that would fit in the tiny box she had in her hand. I wanted a variety of pastries for our at-home-brunch for Mother's Day. Planned it poorly as I didn't realize everyone in Nashville would be on the hunt for pastries, too. However, I did not appreciate the bad attitude from the girl behind the counter. Sure she was probably having a bad day, but when you're in customer service, fake it till you make it. I love bakeries and if this was close to my house, I would probably come here at least once a month. There are a many things that I liked, but there were also just a few misses. The Hits: The best thing that we got was the kouign amann. It's sort of like a cupcake version of a croissant, but a little bit more moist and pillow-y. The top of it is perfect: sugary, crisp, flaky. Egg in a hole: the homemade bread was buttery and perfectly crisp. Comes with a side of sweet potato hash. The celery root that's in it gives it a unexpected, if not strange, savoriness. Blueberry muffin: has a nice denseness. Top of it is sugary with a hint of crunch. I really like this version. Chocolate chip cookie with pecans: a solid cookie. Edges were brown and a tiny bit crisp, but soft on the inside. The Misses: Breakfast sandwich (with avocado and bacon): The avocado and bacon cost extra. The bread is homemade, which is a plus. The pesto spread tasted a bit off. Most of us did not like it: mushy (since the bread is not toasted), the flavors didn't quite meld. Croissants: these were hit and miss. My main complaint here is that some of them were a tad overbaked. There was a hint of burnt taste on the edges of the chocolate croissant and almond croissant. Otherwise, solid croissants. Overall, a very good bakery. Just a few small things preventing me from giving it five stars. I would definitely go back. read more

I am disappointed. I was given a gift card for Dozen Bakery. Unfortunately they are not a gluten free facility and I am unable to able to eat there. In lieu of allowing me to refund the gift card, they offered food that while GF, is made in a non-GF kitchen and therefore could have cross-contamination. I was then given the option of buying drinks (I don't need $40 worth of drinks) or to purchase random knick-knacks. I really feel like there should be an alternative. I would never go to a bakery to purchase stuffed animals, ornaments, or cook books. As this was a gift, it is absolutely not about the money. This is simply disappointing. I did not choose to be GF and feel like in order to use this gift card, I have buy $40 worth of things I cannot use. I would think there would be more understanding in situations like this. read more

The bakery is located in an interesting location. There is parking so don't worry about parking. Good amount of seating inside and outside. Dogs allowed on patio area. The line is kind of ridiculous though. They have one person checking people out and you can't order until you get to the pay station so it makes the line DRAGGGG. Anyway it's managed inefficiently and has opportunity to speed up if they are more efficient. The croissants are delicious, I got a wide variety and yes, my husband and I finished all of them in one day lol. The one complaint about the croissants and it was consistent was that they could have been baked slightly longer to allow for a crispy croissant like you would get in Paris, also the croissants were slightly hollow which to me indicates a dough that was rushed or didn't proof all the way. But still overall best croissants in Nashville hands down. You will spend $4 a croissant. I may be back but the way the checkout line is managed, not sure if I can go through that again lol read more

All the pastries were worth having. We got there just as they opened so they had a wide selection so be sure to get there earlier in the day. The blueberry muffin was moist and had plenty of berries, the almond croissant was fluffy and had a good amount of filling. The cookies were soft and freshly baked. I wish they had more than just drip coffee though and a full coffee bar selection. It is a great place to stop and enjoy a pastry on the sunny patio. Add roasted tomatoes to elevate it even more! Dozen is a little out on the outside of popular mainstream Nashville so you have to drive but it is worth it. Went here twice in my 3 day stay in Nashville because my tummy didn't have enough space for to eat all the goodness in one visit! Tons of parking made it easy to swing by. The desserts were absolutely delicious but the split baguette with butter and jam made in-house was the star of the show. Perfect baguette with a perfect crust (slightly chewy, not toasty), the inside was perfectly tender and wonderfully tasty. The strawberry jam was deliciousssss. I'm a bit of a croissant snob so I tried three different croissants: all I thought to be tad over baked, but I had expected that after seeing pictures of them on Yelp before my visit (they all look too dark). The pros: Great lamination (flakiness) and buttery taste (not bready like sub-par croissants). The almond croissant was decadently tasty, but had too much filling for my taste. I would eat them all again but they would be PERFECT if they were baked for tad less time. The oatmeal/cranberry cookie was delicious - perfect chewy texture and not too sweet! (My biggest pet peeve with baked goods and pastries). The carrot cake scone was tasty and cake-like in the middle. I never order scones so I'm not familiar with how a traditional scone should taste, but I loved this one! The carrot added some nice moisture. Absolutely LOVE this place! Love having this located in this sweet neighborhood, it has a very community feel from the outdoor patio seating the light filled indoors. I've come here multiple times, and everything I've had is always outstanding, quick service. This time I got their savory gallete with butternut squash and goat cheese - you guys it was SO GOOD. My husband got the egg sandwich with bacon and no tomatoes, that pesto packs a punch in the best way possible! They were super kind about using my own coffee cup that I brought. They offer compostable products for their to go options. They have a separate recycling bin in addition to the trash. We have been going to Dozen Bakery for a handful of years with no issue. After being quarantined for a few months, we decided to drive the half an hour to one of our favorite bakeries, excited for a little bit of carb heaven bread. I ordered a chicken salad on a baguette with avocado and bacon. My significant other ordered an egg sandwich with avocado and bacon as well with coffee. Making sure we had everything before we drove back home, I noticed my sandwich was just an avocado toast sandwich. They did give me my chicken salad sandwich eventually. As we were hungry, we decided to eat in the car. They put the bacon that was supposed to be part of the egg sandwich, by itself in a box, swimming in it's own abundant grease. As I took a bite of my sandwich and my SO took a bite of his, we were both stunned by the amount of salt in this bacon. I don't know if anyone has had a taste of the bacon that came out of Dozen today but it was inedible. It tasted like it was brined. It was so salty and hit the back of my throat so intensely that it prompted me to salivate automatically, in what I can guess is my body's natural response to neutralize it. As for the egg salad, even though we took out the bacon, the leftover salt was still too much for us. We wanted something simple, an egg sandwich and chicken salad - ubiquitous, every day American fare. After the salty taste subsided, my palate was hit with what tasted like fennel which I don't mind, I eat a lot of Southeast Asian fare. However as I kept eating, I couldn't help but notice that there was so much difference between what I'm eating - just a regular chicken salad. There was a note of cinnamon. It was off putting. It hit me! There's chinese five spice in here, which contains star anise, fennel seeds, peppercorns, cloves and cinnamon. Normally Chinese five spice is used for more complex or heavier dishes. It does NOT go well with what I, or other people, would expect from chicken salad. I ended up putting it away and taking it home to add a bit of balsamic glaze to temper it. Alas, it didn't help one bit. We understand experimenting with food and that's okay. However, what we had today tasted like a hodge podge of things thrown together with no thought whatsoever. Maybe there was a change in crew or management from the few months ago we were here. Maybe it just an off day. However, from the missed sandwich, the extremely salty bacon and the off putting chicken salad, it may be another few months before we give Dozen Bakery a try again. read more

This is my favorite kind of establishment: small, quaint, good coffee, outdoor seating and made to order foods. This has it all. The food here is amazing; everything slightly unique. I need to try the croissants but they were out. The breads look amazing as well. Random but it seems as if all guys work there? I've been coming here for lunch and always get the sandwich and soup- very tasty and great food. I will warn you that the wait time on food is SO long. At least 10-15 minute wait even when I've come here and no one else is in line. It's simple food, so I wouldn't expect a long wait, and yet I keep coming back for the tasty food and waiting for a while after I order. The staff/customer service is nothing to rave about, if anything there's slight attitude. But I can't deny that their bread is great, so I give credit where it's due.
