4 star for service but good lordy is the food bad. We were told an hour wait at a nearby restaurant and our party was too hungry to wait. No wait here so we were sat and served promptly but the menu is definitely not Authentic New Mexican as they boast, nor is it creative or even tasty. Ordered fish tacos and steak tacos. Fish is "northwest salmon" which is their shot at creativity but ended up just being strange. The menu has too much fish on it for being in a landlocked state where everything is frozen and shipped from hundreds of miles away. Steak tacos were over cooked and dry. Salsa and guacamole were bland and not spicy. Even a Simple salad dressing is terrible and the New Mexican dishes are not at all authentic. But the average tourist would not know, it is more like mall-food Mexican/American. Basically Denny's caliber food. The food was over priced. Brought bread and two tabs of butter for three people! Charged extra for more dressing. One party ordered spaghetti and a shrimp salad. the spaghetti was over cooked and the shrimp were cooked to rubber! Called the manager and he started to argue that he checked the food and that we were going to have to pay for it even though it was un- edible! What a laughable joke this place is. Ordered chips, salsa, queso and guac. Chips were almost stale. "Salsa" was basically stewed tomato's out of a can with cilantro added. Waitress said it takes a long time to cook a burger (30 min) - When I asked to speak to the manager- Rob Day and told him the situation- he sat there and tried to justify it. I didn't even have a chance to eat my meal because I was on my lunch hour. It took 10 Minutes for a waiter to approach the table once we were seated. The Green Chile over the enchiladas was not very good. Very little flavor and no kick. The ladies ordered salads with chicken which they were happy with. Fish tacos were OK. Upon reviewing the menu, I asked the waiter what they were known for and what was good. He said everything, which is never correct and of know help. We then flagged down another waitress, and she was very helpful on the various dishes, even though we weren't her table. Hubby and I selected this venue for a Sunday-night dinner on the way home to Albq. from Taos. Santa Fe has a real dearth of medium-priced sit-down restaurants that are locally owned and have good reputations. Hubby had the restaurant's version of chicken fettucini alfredo and he wasn't pleased---it just didn't hit his happy place. I had the fried oyster appetizer and a dinner salad. The dinner salad is large, but short on additions to the spring greens. The dressing was good. One of the oysters wasn't sufficiently cooked---apparently flash-frying doesn't cook items through as they should be. The locale is great - entrance just off the parking lot of DeVargas Mall and nicely and easily accessible. The atmosphere is that of a sports bar - noisy and the televisions tuned to football games. Not sure that we'll be back---it wasn't a bad experience, but not an exceptional one either. read more

The first time I ate at Santa Fe Bar and Grill I was quickly seated at a table set for three. We all enjoyed our drinks (house margarita for me, though I've since learned that the Silvercoin is worth the upgrade), and our food orders (the soup and salad combo is amazing, especially since you can substitute in the tortilla soup for the day's special). I have since returned to this restaurant on several occasions, but have opted to sit at the bar rather than at a table. The bartenders all know what they are doing; they are attentive, friendly, and skilled mixologists (my boyfriend and I enjoy creating experimental coctails) (also the pecan old fashioned is a great seasonal choice). The set menu offers New Mexican specialties, a variety of sandwiches, salads and entrées, but the daily specials menu is what really keeps me coming back for more. Usually, the weekend brunch selections offer a change of pace; order the quiche if it's available. read more

I've had the weirdest service both times I've been at Santa Fe Bar and Grill. The first time the food was slow to arrive, not warm, and the waiter picked a nasty fight with my date. It really wasn't our fault the food was cold and not good and yet he thew a fit. The second time, and only because my next date wanted to get a drink before seeing a movie, the service was a bit warmer and we just had drinks at the bar but it was nearly impossible to get the bartenders attention. Drinks were good, and the bar food was solid. But with the nearly impossible parking in De Vargas mall and the up and down service, this is probably a "won't return". read more

The food was pretty good but everything was SO spicy! I ordered the burrito plates off the kids menu for my kids and they couldn't even eat it because the rice inside it was too spicy. My husband and I ordered enchilada plates (chicken and brisket) and they were both spicy as well. The flavor overall was good but we each could only stand to eat about half. What was really disappointing was the service. Our waiter walked up hastily and simply asked what we wanted to drink with no welcome, "how are you?", etc. He hardly interacted with us at all and even commented about being busy. I see some four and five star reviews for this place on here, and it bewilders me. Have these people ever eaten food before? Are they on vacation from the sewer? I signed up for yelp specifically to give this restaurant a one-star review. I swear to god, I've had better meals at the soup kitchen. The theme of the afternoon was disappointment. With some mimosas to wash it down. We were blissfully unaware of the culinary abortion that awaited us. The waitress brought out our drinks. They were a bottle of champagne with a glass of orange juice, we had to make them ourselves. At the time we thought it was cute. After some idle banter our food was brought out. A wave of nausea and fear washed over me when I saw the plates. Immediately I was brought back to Thursday in my grade school cafeteria. The meat loaf was a grayish slab with a sick layer of filmy gravy dumped on it. Lukewarm would be a generous description. I looked over at Kevin. He was staring into a brownish wad that we could only guess was a chicken fried steak. It looked like the insides of a dirty diaper. We set ourselves to the grim task of choking down this abomination. Every bite was more painful than the one before. It was a cold flavorless heap of shit. Bad doesn't begin to describe this food. There was no texture, no flavor. It tasted like it was cooked by a bitter alcoholic whose wife had just ran out on him. It was so bad I wanted to walk into the kitchen and shank whatever poor bastard threw it in the microwave, just so I could go to prison and get a decent meal. So this place is kind of like Chili's but with a Santa Fe twist. The food is filling and kind of good tasting, but certainly nothing spectacular. I had the tortilla soup and southwest caesar salad, and the flavors were just not there. It was all kind of bland. In fact, the croutons, which were supposedly spiced, were completely inedible because of taste and texture. I hoped to steal some of my fiance's rotisserie chicken, but it was also pretty unseasoned and bad tasting. The sides were similarly disappointing- normal fries and completely overcooked and unseasoned broccoli. We had ordered the salsa/guac/chips appetizer, and the guac was eaten but not the salsa. It was basically a bowl of cilantro with some canned tomatoes thrown in for kicks. Because I was so hungry after this meal, we decided to get some apple pie (they also offered some Mexican-style desserts, but I didn't want to have flan ruined for me forever), which was similarly flavorless and the ice cream had a cheap taste (like it wasn't made with real cream). The decor was nice, and the server was fine if a bit pushy. We only went here because it was the only non-chain we could find open on New Year's Day before noon. Not that good, but not that bad. I got the steak sandwich, which had peppers, pesto, cheese all on sourdough bread. The steak was great, the peppers juicy and tasty, the pesto could have been left off. I thought the flavor was a bit much and took away from the other ingredients. And the bread was a soggy as a sock after splashing in puddles. I ended up taking the bread off and eating the interior separately as a delightful blend. Staff was nice enough though our waitress would pop out of thin air like a ninja and surprise us each time. She is sneaky so dont try to steal the silverware. Probably the best combination of food quality, price, and ambiance in Santa Fe, and with convenient free parking. I eat here several times a month, and I always see savvy locals enjoying meals here, too. This visit, though, I made a rare special request of the kitchen, and it was granted immediately. I was grateful and impressed. There's always a nice special or two, and everything on the menu is first-rate and made with fresh ingredients. One of the best burgers in Santa Fe. The food is a disaster. Plain and simple. Santa Fe has many wonderful places to eat. This isn't one of them. Order a drink at the nice bar, relax, maybe try the fried oysters. Other than that, do some research. The local weekly Santa Fe Reporter publishes guides (free) that can steer you to places that honor the art of food preparation. Instead manager now comes over to table to talk about it in front of my Mother. Again, just tell them I want my check so I can leave. Not they bring the cake...... Just wasn't impressed. We went as a family of 5. The host was so welcoming and got us seated quickly. We were NOT impressed with our waiter. He treated us as we were an inconvenience. Chips and salsa cost and that's ok but take a hint from chili's and make them limitless. Not that it would of mattered because we wouldn't of ever got our waiter to bring us more. Our drinks remained empty until I finally flagged someone down to bring us refills. So all together service was just disappointing for how nice the restaurant seems. I've been coming here for years and always enjoy the food: poblano en negado, rotisserie chicken, fish tacos, decent margaritas, etc. Generally, I've found the service very professional. I've often come here with my visiting parents for lunch. My dad likes his iced tea bleached with lemon, so he always asks for extra lemon. Only one time did we have a problem with this: a waiter (don't know his name) started explaining how the lemons were more expensive than the iced tea and generally acted strange about it. He gave us the lowest level of "extra" lemons and continued to evil eye us. Who acts like that to a 80-something year old man? It's not like he even asked for a surcharge. Very weird. read more

Pity, this will forever be known by me as "that place where that lady was flossing her teeth at the bar". I stopped in here last Saturday after a long snowshoeing trek, I was verrrrry hungry and thirsty. They have a cute outdoor seating area that looks very nice for cocktails during a summer evening. One Star: Sat at bar- Service was very good, the bartender was friendly and responsive (Ian) . Margarita- yeck- I think they made it with Rose's Lime, it really was weird-sour and not in a good way. Also they were chintzy on the tequila. It just tasted watery. Go ahead, charge me $10, but make me a real drink, I just hiked 6 miles with 1000' elevation gain! One star: Chips- fresh and salty- yum Guac- looked and tasted like that prepared stuff you get in the Sysco bags, with fresh avocado mixed into it. Caesar- this was the highlight of the lunch, it was not overdressed or overdone. It came with a nice mini roll that was warm and fresh, and butter that was soft enough that it didn't fly off the plate when I cut into it. Shrimpies on top were sparse (4 or 5) and overcooked- argh, nothing worse than rubbery shrimp that you paid extra for... Total bill $36.15, with tip, $44.15. For one person. Who wasn't eating sushi or truffles. And had one drink. BUT, the Coup de Grace on this experience was the woman sitting four chairs down from me, eating with what appeared to be her daughter. She had one of those flossing tools and she was going at her teeth during her conversation with her daughter and the bartender. I thought she must have something painful that couldn't wait until she got to the restroom but no, she really just had no shame flicking masticated food out of her mouth while the rest of the restaurant was eating their meals. She had it in her hand or mouth the entire hour I was there. GAG, I'm afraid it's going to be hard to recover from that one. read more

I went to this place for a celebration with friends. It was my very first time and I'll have to say it won't be my last! The Santa Fe bar and grill has a very cozy atmosphere, with dim lighting and lots of decorations. The food was very tasty. I ordered the chicken enchiladas with rice and black beans. I will have to say that what impressed me the most was the staff. Everyone was so friendly and kind with our group.
