Stopped in here on a Tuesday night to grab some drinks. I hadn't even realized that this place had opened and was super excited to see a new bar in the area. You have to present a vaccine card to get in. The waitress was friendly, checked on us just enough throughout the evening. They have an extensive menu of drinks and a long list of rums. They also offer beer and non alcoholic drinks as well. We both enjoyed our drinks and they tasted like they were made with care. Each drink is around $15. Some people were saying this is expensive but this is definitely a bar you are paying for the ambiance! I was excited to try this spot since it's different from other bars in the area and it's NEW! They don't have food yet but said they hope to have it by the end is the month. For now, they are letting you bring in your own food. We didn't know this before we came but there are lots of options in literally every direction that you can walk to for pickup. If the drinks are any indication of what the food will be like, it'll be great! I got the Siren's Shore and the Dead Man's Isle (see photos). Both were strong and tasty. They have an X system to let you know how strong they are. But even the one X was pretty strong. So get some water with the drinks just to be safe, especially if you aren't getting food. They are definitely craft cocktails as you can tell that a lot of time was put into creating them. They are unique and their presentation is beautiful. We got there a little before 7 and just beat the rush. They were busy the whole time we were there. There are booths, tables, and bar seating. Stopped here around 10pm on a Friday after grabbing dinner nearby. There were tables available outside but none open inside, and I see why - the inside is awesome! Super decked out in tiki bar vibes and it really feels like you're transported to the Caribbean. They had a waitlist available, but since we were thinking of doing just drinks, we opted for going to the bar inside which has no wait. We got two drinks: - Phoenix Rising (5/5): tasty drink, but mostly just super epic. They set the drink on fire and then shake cinnamon on top, which sets the whole thing off - so cool to see! - Drink of the Gods (5/5): refreshing drink. They made a rum heavy drink still taste so light and yummy. Always nice to get a pineapple slice to eat after too! Both drinks were also strong and packed a good punch. Good bang for your buck, since the drinks are priced a little more than your standard bar drink. You get the experience too! Thanks to Yelp I was made aware of the new establishment that had taken over in place of Peggy Sue's. I convinced my boyfriend and our friend to check out Dr. Funk, which didn't take much. Who doesn't love a tiki bar? I absolutely loved the energy in Dr. Funk, and the place was a feast for our eyes. They went HAM on the interior design with its vibrant colors and intricate decorations. Dr. Funk reminded me of Tiki Bars in SF and took me back to my Trad'r Sams days. This was much needed in the DTSJ nightlife scene. Our server was on point that night. He was entertaining as much as he was friendly and attentive. I appreciated how knowledgeable he was of the menu as well. I've tried a few drinks and they were all mostly good and taste boozy, yet yummy. I do like that the menu points out what the "booze level" of each drink is. I came here for happy hour last night, which was 4-7 (I believe) and there are 5 or 6 happy hour drinks and a few food items. I do wish the happy hour drinks weren't strictly "fancy" tiki drinks. I ordered Shipwreck and it was pretty good, but my biggest issue was that I paid $10 for basically ice. The drink was pre-mixed and poured over an entire glass of ice. Not worth the money in my opinion. I did also order fries and for $5 they give a full basket and they were yummy! Like...closest to McDonalds fries I've ever had. Those were worth it. If you are coming for a cute tiki drink or two, a great place, but I personally don't feel like the drinks are worth the money. I sat at the bar. The staff was very nice and were attentive as well. Great place for drinks in DTSJ! Dr. Funk is conveniently located by San Pedro Square right next to the parking lot. There's ample seating, with more seats outside than inside, but inside can fit quite a few people. I enjoy the tiki decorations on the inside. On weekends, I would recommend that you make a reservation online since this place does get packed. Otherwise, you may be stuck waiting for a while. Their drinks here are STRONG. Drinks change seasonally and all vary in terms of how much alcohol they contain. They go from 1-3 stars. 3 starred drinks are limited to 2 per person because of how strong they are. I've tried 2 of the 3* drinks and you guessed it. I was pretty lit. So far everything that I've tried here was really good. My recommendation is to go with flavors that you like. The wait staff can also make recommendations! If you go with a group, they have one in a jug and a punch bowl. Both tend to be on the stronger side, so have fun but be careful! read more

I'm not a big drinker and had just had surgery, so having a few non alcoholic options was awesome. The bathrooms are in the back hallway which is shared with the surrounding businesses including an Irish pub. I'm not a fan of rum but it is a tiki bar after all so expect most the drinks to be made with rum. My favorite drink is the phoenix rising cause it was one of the few drinks without rum lol. They have cute little booths for couples so try out on Valentine's Day. I was looking for Kahlua, which they didn't have so they gave me something similar to a coffee liquor drink and it was awesome. I will definitely visit this place again. The staff is friendly and when we paid we got a 20% discount that was due to the brew bike ride. Solid version of the drink and made strong, thumbs up. Also tried the Phoenix Rising which comes with a flaming lime. Not a bad drink and fun with the fire.
