Chinese takeout with a great vegetarian selection. I was on a road-trip and decided to check this place out. I'm not one to shy away based on location, but do note that it's not in the best part of Norfolk. This is a take-out place, although there are a few small tables. I assume they're just for staff and/or customers to wait at. I ordered the Hunan Vegetarian Chicken and it took less than 10 minutes to be ready. The portion itself was very big and I could barely eat half of it. The dish had a solid kick of spice to it. Not too much, but keep this in mind if you're not too big on spicy foods - it's certainly not mild. The imitation meat was good and had a very soft texture, which I liked, because at some places vegetarian chicken can be quite tough. The meal included a nice variety of vegetables, including plenty of broccoli. All in all, I'd definitely come here again to try other things. The staff was friendly and the service was fast. As for the prices, they're also good. Most lunches come to about $6 and dinner portions are around $10. Special items are higher, as expected. read more

Very underrated Chinese takeout spot. Absolutely recommend their food. Orange beef is banging. Hunan chicken is on point. Arguably the best dumplings in Norfolk. They serve thin skin dumplings that give the perfect amount of crisp and chewy when you get them. Hot and sour soup is actually hot and sour. Even the steamed rice is perfectly cooked. Not too sticky, not too mushy, perfectly cooked every time. And big bonus points for their chicken wings! Really. Big, crispy, meaty, juicy and then some. I really really REALLY love their food. So here's the thing. Order the food and pick it up. If you're in the delivery area, good luck. Twice now I've ordered delivery and they've called my phone saying they don't know where my address is. I live in an apartment whose address is on a major street (Hampton Blvd) with heavy traffic. There is a parking lot right next to the building. Since they can't find my address I come down to the front of the building to meet them. They stop in the middle of the road and block an entire lane of traffic on a four lane major road and try to hand me the food out of the car window. I tell the driver to pull off the road into the parking lot or just off on the side street. Because they should really not block traffic on this major road. And on top of this, I've already tipped them for delivery but instead I'm out of my apartment, standing in front of my building, and trying to tell this person to NOT block a major street. But the dude yells to me from behind the wheel, "It's cool. Just take the bag" as people behind him are hitting their brakes trying to not hit him. And this has happened to me twice. TWICE. Yeesh. I think I've had just about everything on the veg menu by now, except the "seafood" analogues, which I don't care for, and the "curry" dish(es?). Something I failed to mention the last time I reviewed was how exceptionally sweet and friendly the staff are. Most places, when you order and wait for your order, they'll bag it up and shout at you from behind the counter. Not so with Dragon City. This makes me very very happy. My favorites are the veg dumplings, General Tso's... Well, anything, really... And the orange and sesame "chicken" dishes. My first time here, ordered via phone as I left ODU they said ten minutes I was there in five minutes I paid and food was ready! Good timing, great service, location is by the food lion plaza. I ordered one item the shrimp chow Mein (expected thin, crispy noodles) nope didn't get that. Apparently once I called cashier explained it's just cabbage in a white/clear sauce it tasted fine I just felt like it was more of a soup with a whole lot of celery cabbage and onions! Good amount of shrimp very bland seasoning but somehow flavor was ok. My meal came with a side of rice that was good! The crispy chip/noodles it came with were very stale as they were generously put in my bag! This is a TO GO spot don't stay and eat it's not pretty! Dragon City is really a hole-in-the-wall type of place, and easy to miss. As Amber said, they only take cash, but there is a Bottom Dollar next door with an ATM (that I had to take advantage of!). The interior does not look very nice at all. Honestly, I would describe it as grungy. HOWEVER, the food is excellent. They have a pretty massive menu, and a separate vegetarian menu (which is pretty sizable itself!). Their mock meats are crazy good. I had the vegetarian pepper steak, and my husband had the vegetarian sesame chicken. We both wolfed our food down greedily. Our dishes also came with vegetarian spring rolls, which were very tasty. I was in Norfolk for work and had to give this place a try because of their extensive vegan menu. We tried the veg sesame chicken and the veg General Tso's chicken. Both dishes were GREAT! The GT could have been spicier but I think they can up the spice if you ask them. All the veg dishes come with a spring roll and vegetable fried rice. I wish they had told me about the spring rolls coming with the meal so that I wouldn't have ordered more. Oh well, we ended up with four greasy, but delicious, spring rolls! The veg fried rice was bland and mushy so I would go with the white rice next time. We ordered take-out as this isn't really a sit down place. The food was ready in 10 minutes and everything was hot. I would give this place zero stars if I could. While I liked this place for greasy takeout, the restaurant is dirty and disgusting. Still, they have vegetarian Chinese food. Which is why I put up with the fact that they charged me a different amount (so shady) each time I called and ordered the same thing. Tonight they misplaced my order, delivering my food to someone else's house and someone else's food to mine. Most restaurants would just resend out new fresh food, no problem. Not this place. Dragon City is the epitome of all Chinese take out. I adore the food contained in those grease stained brown bags of theirs. I can't even help myself from ripping past the staples and practically swallowing the vegetable spring rolls on my way home. Dragon City is a danger to everyone on the road with me having their food in tow.The vegetarian General Tso's chicken is lucky if it escapes me for ten minutes. One of the many fantastic aspects of Dragon City are there sizes. A "meal" is actually two or three and easily sharable. Their can't miss items are never ending. They have amazing dishes for vegans or meat eaters. The vegetable potstickers, or dumplings, are just incredible. The only draw back is that their sitting consists of one, maybe two tables which usually serve simply for waiting for the food. The staff and cooks are super friendly and will get you in and out as fast as they can. They seem to know I am always in a rush of excitement to get my food. Embarrassing? Maybe. Worth it? Of course. Delicious food for meat eaters and vegans alike! I have enjoyed Dragon City dozens of times. It's kind of a hike for us to get there (about 25 minutes) but completely worth it. My fave is the Veg Sweet & Sour Chicken which is oddly off their newest copy of the menu. If you ask, they will make it for you. The veggie shrimp dishes are also pretty good. My mom says that their meat dishes are excellent. I am not a big Chinese food fan so the fact that I sometimes crave their food is quite telling! We only get take-out. Every Chinese place around here has tofu, but this is the only place I've found nearby that does mock chicken and beef. And it tastes amazing too! Takeout Chinese is pretty basic, and a lot of the places all taste the same, but if you're a vegetarian or vegan you owe it to yourself to come here just to get away from the tofu. The only negative thing I have to say they have two nighttime delivery drivers and one of them absolutely refuses to get out of his car and even come up to our apartment even though I order from them at least biweekly. Best Chinese in Ghent! and I've been looking for the 15 months, only to be disappointed every where else I went. Kung Pao chicken was really good. Seemed to be all-white meat, and the portion was huge. Steamed dumplings (8) were good too. Everything ready in 10 minutes for pick-up. Service was very friendly, prices are typical for take-out. Hot and fresh! Downside- location. 23rd and Colley, in the Bottom Dollar plaza. It's a little scary at night, especially with a guy practically passed out at one of the tables. Maybe he was tired.... Though there are tons of places for vegans to eat out in Norfolk, Dragon City has quickly become our favorite weekday standby! We love this place for inexpensive, quick and filling vegan Chinese food. We live within the delivery area, but there's a $10 minimum, and it often takes up to an hour for the food to arrive. Worst customer service I've ever received from a restaurant. I had a great couple of experiences ordering delivery to my home so I introduced my colleagues to the menu. We love the food! The egg foo young is really awesome, but the delivery is often really slow and this time THEY MESSED UP OUR ORDER AND WANTED TO CHARGE EXTRA TO FIX IT. Great greasy Chinese food. The tofu broccoli is awesome with fried tofu in a sweet and savory brown sauce. I've also had the faux general tso chicken but i think that the sauce is a little too sweet for me. It's hard to believe that it's not real meat too. I usually get the veggie steamed dumplings and the moo shu vegetables. Both really great and these 2 dishes are not quite as greasy as some go the other vegan items The prices are really good too. Ordered from here when I first moved to Norfolk and it was superb. I was so happy to have found a good chinese place. The next time I ordered the food was too sweet. Really garlic is not supposed to be sweet and chicken with garlic sauce was sweet and scheuan chicken even sweeter. My toddler refused to eat it. I would order from here again but I am not committed.
