I RAN to the restaurant when I found out the cocktails are different from his selection bar at the Blind Pig. we got his avocado gin drink, the unique blue cheese Toki drink, and the tomato jalapeño and thought they were excellent. Grabbed a quick lunch of hamachi with jalapeno and a spicy tuna hand roll. Both were good, with the hamachi being served with a light ponzu sauce and some greens. The tuna could have been spicier but it was still very good. Cool decor and a very interesting menu. Will stop back next time I'm at the Mascone. read more

Came here to grab a bite with a dear friend after work and had a great experience. I would highly recommend the nigiri omakase. The size of the fish was not large and over bearing. They take the proper care to slice and prepare their nigiri with care and it shows. I also appreciated identifiers such as small pieces of tomato and cucumber to help us identify differences between similar fish. When she dropped the omakase dish she took the time to point to each fish and tell us exactly what it was in english and Japanese. MANY places forget to do this. They did take a quite a while to prepare each dish but given the great company and conversation I was having I didn't notice too too much. I just wouldn't say this is a quick place to eat unless you try maybe the skewers and apps. All things considered, they have a ton of seating. One of the few restaurants that are opened late in this part of SF until 11pm! Went there on a Sunday night at 930pm, and was immediately seated with food that came quickly. If you're looking for a late night bite and not concerned about spending 30+ for a meal, definitely consider here. Otherwise, its a pretty typical Americanized Japanese restaurant with a higher than average price tag which is expected in SF. The sushi rolls are the best bang for your bucks if you're looking to be full and not spend too much! Long rolls and plenty of toppings. The sushi are all decent quality which is expected given the high price tag of 5+ dollars per piece. The premium otoro was amazing! For nigiri, also recommend the salmon belly, scallop, and ikura. The medium chutoro was also amazing if you dont want to pay for the premium price tag. The squid is a bit tough and overly salty. The chicken skewer is definitely less juicy than those you get in a real Japanese izakaya. Still, all plenty tasty especially given they're open late in the night. The atmosphere was clean and not crowded on a sunday night. You shouldn't need to wait for a seat on most nights. read more

I was out with a group looking for an impromptu dinner out nearby. We found this place on Yelp, hiding behind some road construction amongst tons of apartment buildings in the neighborhood. Honestly, when we found the front door we thought it might be closed because it was not busy and had kind of a dark, moody industrial vibe. Overall- subpar food in an old restaurant...much left to be desired. - chicken karaage, shrimp tempura, agedashi tofu: didn't enjoy the breading/coating on any of these. Vickie and Derrick were so friendly and attentive. We rented the large dining room for a birthday. They had the tables set up and all of our pre ordered food items on point. The karaoke was fun. My favorite dishes were the pork belly and beef tongue skewers. Mushroom California Roll was decent too, the breading of the mushrooms had a nice crunch. The party wings were disappointing because the drums were small. Had a special drink menu. I had 2. A flaming Dragon & a high ball. Both drinks were just ok. They both were really sour. My boyfriend and I went here for Valentine's Day dinner. First, keep in mind that there is only street parking in this area and it isn't a place I'd feel comfortable walking alone at night. My boyfriend and I were seated in a booth and the napkins were themed for the occasion. I ordered a salmon nigiri and the crazy spider roll. My boyfriend ordered the zucchini skewers, beef skewers, and gyoza. The salmon nigiri was very fresh and even my boyfriend who doesn't like raw fish enjoyed the bite he took. The crazy spider roll was amazing and I'm sad I didn't take a photo of it. Spider rolls are one of my favorite rolls to order and this one did not disappoint. Our friends who also had their Valentine's dinner here ordered it too and loved it. My boyfriend loved all of his food, although he felt that the beef skewers' portion size was small for its price. He especially enjoyed the zucchini and said he'd be happy with just a big plate of that for dinner. From the ambiance to the cocktails, I enjoyed my whole experience at Dragon Horse! I came with a group of friends Saturday night around 9 pm. They had made a reservation for our party of 6, but it wasn't really needed as the place was much emptier than I expected. I had food earlier, so I was here mainly for the drinks. I tried two cocktails, both of which blew my mind with how good they were. I started with the Kouma ($16), with gin, cucumber, shochu, avocado, shiso leaf, peppermint tea, lemon, and ginger. It was a very light and refreshing drink. Next I got the Guava Thyme ($16), which had gin, guava, avocado pit, rosa, lemon, apple, and egg white. The presentation for this one was really fun, and the drink was fruity and tasty. I couldn't really taste the alcohol in either drink, which makes them quite dangerous... I didn't try the food here, but they have a good selection on their menu featuring sushi, skewers, and various hot dishes like rice dowls and fried foods. They started the karaoke system around 9 pm, so some folks started putting in songs and singing from their table. This was a pleasant surprise to me, since I didn't realize they offered karaoke here (it seems like they do so most nights after 9 pm). I happily joined in for a few songs. The karaoke system they use is Chinese, so it doesn't have all of the songs, but it's got a decent selection. Would definitely come back for the karaoke and cocktails! read more

Came to grab takeout and ordered the Unagi Don which is advertised to come with sushi rice, avocado, omelette and ikura but really it was such a small portion of unagi with pickled radish and seaweed salad which for me is a much lesser combination. First off, Food - very good. My choices were edamame (classic) and gyoza (classic) as appetizers, then a veggie dragon roll, dragon horse roll, and white horse roll. Very simple and flavorful rolls. Nothing too crazy, nothing too simple. Loved it. Sashimi and nigiri have always been also delicious. Second, Drinks - they were incredible delicious. My choices were BLUE GLICO (fan favorite) then I had the TROPICAL CLUB (highly recommended) HOKKAIDO OKAKI (wife's favorite). The choices are endless on the drinks menu. From wine to cocktails to whiskeys. Has a very good reputation on drinks. Highly recommend tasting the COCKTAIL OMAKASE. Trust me. Ask for it. Lastly, The whole experience was very enjoyable and tranquil. Very subtle vibe and atmosphere was great. Had a good time at Dragon Horse. The service was fantastic too. Wow wow wow!! This really is a hidden gem. This place has innovative cocktails curated by the owner I believe. Such a creative mind I should say! We came on a fairly slow night (it was just my friend and I and two other people in the restaurant). The food was AMAZING, a little pricey, but would definitely make a trip back to try more cocktails and the karaoke. The restaurant serves as a bar and a dine in restaurant and the inside gives off a very intimate atmosphere with a quirky feel to it. This place was located kinda not near anything interesting but to my surprise the food was actually very delicious! We were a big party and ordered a little bit of everything to try. My favorites were probably the chicken wings hands down, they were crispy but not too battered. The nigiris with salmon belly also were bomb. Did not enjoy the beef tongue skewers they were chewy. The pork belly was good. The meatballs and gyoza were okay. They had a banana panda drink that tasted like dessert. My group of friends have been to this location a few times in the past under a different name. The only thing difference is that I've noticed is they've added ceiling decorations. On our recent visit we made a reservation at 6:30pm on a Saturday for 5. This was not necessary because the whole place was pretty much empty and I'm not sure why. The staffs were friendly and attentive. They have so many options for cocktails with some having unusual ingredients such as the Onion Cream Cheese - charred onion with strawberry cream cheese and brandy. Some people may like it and some people may not. I personally didn't like it but another person in my group did. I also got to try the Wasabi Bean drink which was better but found it light in alcohol. The wasabi didn't hit me as hard as I thought. The Smoke Unami drink was strong though but the "smoke" effect was underwhelming. Guava Thyme was my favorite but also found it light. At $16 each I was hoping for a bit more alcohol. For food we ordered a bunch to share. The baby back ribs normally come in 4 pcs but they were able to accommodate us and made it 5 pcs. The nigiris here tasted fresh and I would come back for it. Our table did order 6 x salmon belly nigiris and an 8pcs nigiri omakase. I'm a bit disappointed that in one of the 8pcs was another salmon belly. This was chef's choice but I guess there was more than 1 chef who didn't pay attention. The fried food was just okay. Nothing really stood out for me. I'll stick to the nigiris. read more

Out of the 3 dishes we ordered, dragon horse roll, organic chicken skewers, and karaage chicken, the karaage chicken was the only decent dish. The sushi tasted pretty low quality like what you'd get from the supermarket, and the organic chicken skewers were too salty. For drinks we got the flaming dragon and miso peppercorn and ended up preferring each other's drink, so we swapped. I think maybe this place would be better for karaoke where the food is just an addition to the entertainment. read more

We got a cocktail from the menu and noticed the bartender was using Evan Williams whiskey for cocktails that clearly said whiskey Markers or Angels Envy, which is 2x the cost of Evan. We asked him about it and he said oh that's out of date. Got very defensive immediately and then aggressively snatched my drink from me to remake it without me being able to respond to his question about remaking it. We asked him to not be this aggressive we are simply trying to have a conversation, but he was having a bad night or something. Either way the whole situation felt very slimy. I hope this is not standard business practice to cut corners and skimp customers, but it sure felt that way based on how he reacted. Phenomenal find honestly! I am so glad I found this gem. I visited this place twice on a Saturday night once for a date with my husband and once with my friend. This place is the perfect place where you can sip delicious and refreshing cocktails and have a great conversation. The ambience was so simple yet very minimal and artistic. The servers gave us some amazing recommendations and they were so friendly, they really took care of us and this place has one of the most humble staff in the city. Me and my husband tried the Flaming Dragon cocktail and first of all I loved the presentation, it reminded me of Harry Potter and we all love Harry Potter. Such a Royal looking drink and it was a strong one, but it tasted great and was very well balanced. The next cocktail we had was Kouma cocktail which was so refreshing with a great flavour of cucumber and peppermint. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and I would come back for this one on a hot summer day. Overall, this place is a 5 on 5 for me because the service, ambience and cocktails were on point.
