2 Stars I've been coming here specifically for their Salted Fish and Chicken Fried Rice because it's one of my favorite dishes. Unfortunately, my recent takeout order was very disappointing. When I got home and started eating, I realized there was no salted fish at all--just chicken. I called the restaurant to let them know, and instead of offering a reasonable solution, they asked me to bring the food back. After already driving home, that's simply not convenient or good customer service. I was really looking forward to my favorite dish, and this experience left me very disappointed. read more

Excellent food and cheaper than Hong Kong located across the street. My mom and I have been there twice. The most recent time was yesterday for lunch. We ordered Young Chow Fried Rice and BBQ Chow Mein. Both were excellent and since couldn't finish it so we asked for take out boxes. Don't expect great service. Very similar to what you get in Hong Kong. Another thing is one of the waitresses and her treatment toward us when we asked two plates. No problem with that. Instead got a nasty attitude when we then asked for chopsticks. She said that we should bring it when we asked for plates so that she don't walk twice. Had food delivered which arrived within 45 mins. This place is pricey but it is large portions. I had to reduce what I choose to keep it under $100. Noodles were thick and oily. Rice had some hard portions in it . Orange chicken wasn't to bad but not good after it warmed down . Not worth the price. read more

No frills Chinese food that has been here for as long as I can remember. People are nice, you get your food quick, and prices are pretty good. Our family usually grab our Chinese food here and take it home to eat. I think my favorite here is the egg foo young among other things. Highly recommend. read more

They've gone a little downhill. Food is still good but we used to always order for delivery since they had one of the most fast and reliable delivery services but they've stopped offering delivery in the past year or so. Worst part is (as many others have mentioned) it looks like they're very sketchy about their charges. Last time we ate in the restaurant and received our bill which looked correct with 4 items on it but when we added up the prices ourselves, it came out to less than the price they wrote on the bill. We brought this to their attention and they insisted it wasn't a mistake and that the added cost was for tip but it was VERY clear that they were just trying to up the total without us noticing, especially since it wasn't noted as a tip and our party shouldn't have been charged for automatic tip. I may still keep eating here but I definitely wouldn't trust them with the charges, especially when they refused to take accountability for it which tells me it was intentional and something they probably do often. read more

CHECK YOUR BILLS!!! Dragon house has been our go to for Chinese food for several years. If I had written this updated review 2-3 years ago, or maybe even a few months ago, it would've still been a 5 star review like my first one. Unfortunately, my last experience here left me feeling unsettled by their shady way of sneaking in charges. After having lunch here with my family, we got our bill and almost handed our credit card to them without even looking at the bill but someone in our group asked if everything looked right on the bill before we pay. We took a look and realized the math wasn't mathing! We couldn't figure out how the subtotal they wrote on the bill was much more than what the items added up to be. We asked the server, who suddenly started acting rude, and she said "it's tip" and tried to reach for our credit card to charge it. I stopped her from grabbing our credit card and again asked her to clarify the bill she again said it's tip and just walked away with a quickness. We were only a party of 5 and she never told us tip was already added so I am positive that when she swiped our credit card she would have let us add tip to it still without saying anything. Also the "tip" she claims that was added was added to the subtotal and then they added tax after that. I do not appreciate shady business like this.. trying to sneak extra charges to your loyal customers. Not cool. read more

PARTICULAR ITEMS When I go to restaurants that have the same cuisine I try to order different items. Especially if the items are not served at other restaurants. One day I came to Dragon House for lunch because one of the items on lunch menu stood out - beef with mushrooms. Mushrooms have an umami taste. The combination of mushrooms and beef results in a filling dish. I really enjoyed this dish for lunch. The beef with mushrooms dish was promising start. Almost a week later I came here for dinner specifically to order the fried flounder, which not listed in the lunch menu. The breading has a light crust, yet I wished it was crunchier. Anytime a whole meat is deep fried you worry if the meat was overcooked. The meat from the flounder wasn't dry but moist. However I wish the sauce for fried flounder was thicker. Curry is not what you associate with Chinese food, but I came back to Dragon House a couple of weeks later for that reason. For lunch I ordered the chicken curry. I don't believe should be drenched in sauce, but I also believe you should taste the flavor of the sauce. The chicken dish had a very light curry sauce however I couldn't taste the curry. My first time eating at the Dragon House I was very pleased. The other two times the dishes were satisfactory. The items I had were tasty, but I expected more yet ended up as ok. read more

We moved to Sacramento but family still live in the area so we typically order here when we're in town. No frills, no thrills restaurant and food has been consistent over the decades. We ordered: fried flounder, HK Style House noodles, Mixed veggies w/fried tofu, and Sweet n Sour Pork all done in 15 minutes, now that's efficient! Flounder fried to perfection so you could eat the crispy bones exposed, pan fried noodles held a crunch after adding in the sauce, meat & veggies. SnS is standard, but not overly sweet, and the veggie tasted fresh with a light crunch so you know the veggies were not overcooked. Every city has at least one no-frills Chinese spot that you can always count on for good, dependable takeout, and Dragon House is Union City's. I've been coming here since I was a teen (which doesn't bear thinking about), and I still order for pick-up from here semi-regularly, because I know I'll be getting huge, delicious portions of classic Chinese-American dishes with very little wait. My go-to's are the chicken chow mein or beef chow fun, and the salt and pepper spareribs. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience here. For that, they've got a customer for life. read more

We have ordered from Dragon House many many times over the years and apparently they have changed hands because the food is different. We ordered hot and sour soup, which is very good. Their veggie fried rice is not so good because it has broccoli in it. I like broccoli but not in my fried rice. The other thing that we order, the Mongolian beef is good however there are salt and pepper prawns. I don't care for. Before the salt and pepper prawns had the shells on which taste much better. I wish that they could make them like that again. But maybe it was whoever owned the place before. All in all the food isn't bad I would just change a few things like the salt and pepper prawns and the fried rice. read more

When most places are increasing their prices due to the pandemic, this place still carries the same price during the pre-pandemic. This is one of a few places where you can still find a lunch special for less than $10. I had their string bean chicken with rice and was also served with a small bowl of soup with 2 pcs of wanton. It came quickly When you're in a hurry for a quick lunch to go back to work or run errands, this place is the right one. This is the WORST "Chinese" food I have ever put in my mouth. This is NOT authentic Chinese food. This is a total disgrace to real Chinese food. There are tons of 1 star reviews here and they are all true. The food here is absolutely disgusting. They are very stingy with the amount of food they give. Top it all off, extremely expensive food which is not prepared properly. No words to describe how horrendous this place is. I'm never returning nor am I recommending others to come here. The food is ok. I used to eat in until the guy started complaining about our tip and how it should be at least 15%. Dude all you did was refill our water a few times and serve us only 3 plates and you wanted a bigger tip? Now if this was somewhere else where the servers are constantly being worked then yeah. But there was like 2 other people in the store. Dude was definitely not working his ass off. Then I started ordering to go and last week my friend found a long hair in the fried rice. Been going to Dragon House since they were located on Smith street back in 2010! Fresh food, great pricing, awesome portion sizing. Their lunch special is a killer deal! The service has always been top notch. The new location by dyer st is much larger and handles many guests but not cramped at all. Definitely my favorite place for Chinese food. read more

A friend and I came here for lunch, and the experience was terrible from the start. When I asked a simple question about a dish, the server acted annoyed. Our entrees even came out before the appetizer. When I asked for chili oil, the woman at the register snapped, "NO MORE CHILI OIL, JUST SAUCE ON THE TABLE" (which was just Sriracha). Her rude tone made it clear she didn't care if she was being disrespectful. We let it slide, thinking maybe she was having a bad day, and tried to enjoy our meal. The whole time we were eating, neither of the two women working the front bothered to check on us not even to refill our water. Instead, they stood around chatting with each other and shooting us dirty looks. (Mind you the place was not packed just two tables so it wasn't like they were too busy to bring us water). When it was time to pay, my friend placed a to-go order for her mother. The server asked who was paying, and I said I'd cover everything together. She asked again, then insisted I pay first. Fine. I ran my card and purposely selected no tip. Immediately, she had the nerve to ask, "You pay tip cash?" I told her absolutely not you didn't check on us once, not even for water, so no tip. She looked shocked, confused, and angry all at the same time, then said something to the other rude woman and told us to wait. Even another customer waiting for takeout commented about how they push for tips here even on to-go orders. We both agreed: ridiculous. Tips are earned, not demanded. I don't mind tipping for good service, but I refuse to give my hard earned money to people who are rude and dismissive. If I could give zero stars, I would. Do yourself a favor and skip this place if you wan't to avoid bad customer service and disrecpect for not tipping. read more
