First time trying Dragon Wok for lunch today with a few associates from our office, and it was a solid spot for a casual meal. It's conveniently located near our office around First & Herndon, in the space where Sashimi Express (or another Japanese restaurant) used to be. The menu is pretty extensive and leans toward Chinese-American style dishes, in my opinion, with plenty of chicken, beef, pork, seafood, and vegetarian options. We tried the Dragon Wok fried rice, salt & pepper calamari, Mongolian chicken, and mixed vegetables with beef. My favorites were probably the Mongolian chicken and the beef from the mixed veggie dish. The Mongolian chicken had a little kick to it, while the beef had a nice savory flavor. The fried rice was more subtle but still good, especially with the beef, chicken, and shrimp mixed in. The salt & pepper calamari had a lighter flavor and a breading that reminded me a little of tempura. It was a different take on calamari than I'm used to, but their chili sauce definitely helped add some extra flavor and heat. They also have a selection of beers, Crow & Wolf's Dark Horse, plus a few different flavored soju options. I'll definitely have to try one next time. They also have some platter specials and happy hour Monday-Friday starting at 3 PM. The interior has a cool, casual feel that works well for a date, family meal, or even a solo lunch. The staff was really nice, there's plenty of seating, and parking was easy despite the lot being shared with the surrounding businesses. Overall, it was worth trying and I'd definitely come back to explore more of the menu. We were in Fresno for an appointment and decided we were craving some Japanese and Chinese food. As always, we checked Yelp to see what was nearby with great reviews, and we're glad we found this place! As soon as we walked in, the ladies at the front counter greeted us with a warm welcome. They answered all of our questions, were friendly, and never made us feel rushed. The food was fresh, flavorful, and exceeded our expectations. I tried this restaurant for the first time last week because I saw that so many people liked it. For me, the food was mostly bland and even condiments couldn't help it. My companion and I ordered the Mongolian beef, orange, chicken, chow mein, fried rice, and steamed veggies. The Mongolian beef and orange chicken were excellent. However, everything else was mild to the point of blandness, and the vegetables tasted like they had nothing on them, even though I was told that they came in what sounded like a flavorful sauce. Average. A little expensive for Chinese food but I guess you get a decent amount. But it's more on the salty side. Maybe the chef didn't bother to try out his own cooking but the fried rice was very salty. Chow mein was unsalted. I walked in during lunch time and placed an other for an orange chicken plate and a side of egg roles. My food came out quick and sizzling hot! I love to know they are serving freshly prepared food. Orange chicken plate has to be the best orange chicken I've had so far, I have to come again. For the egg rolls, I was not as impressed and would skip on them next time. The food here does not improve. It's so basic, but if you look closely, there's no complication, complexity of flavors or even basic wok-skills that are used properly. None of the meat has a char on it or is richly flavored. The vegetables are essentially blanched... full of water.. absolutely no char or caramelization that would add levels of interest and TEXTURE!!!!!!!! It misses all of the complexity and doesn't captures ANY flavors achieved through proper wok cooking. It's lazily prepared as if they are trying to conserve gas costs in the kitchen. They can't even cut the meat into a decent size pieces appropriate for the mouth. Instead, the pieces are too large and you end up having to cut them and perform extra work that should've been done before starting the dish. My mushroom pork was dull, not cooked right and came sitting in about an inch of BROTH. You read that right....liquid water with some bullion! Not attempt to thicken or make taste special, no spices..ZERO complexity... It's a SAD example of the kitchen's lack luster ability. I can pull off a better stir fry in my own kitchen. Fool me twice?!!! I'm done eating here and may check it out again in six months. All of the dishes, lack flavor and are not prepared properly... they're actually kind of boring if you've been around and have absolutely no complexity of flavors or textures adding interest. They are not chefs, first. It's more of a cookie cutter process designed for ease, no skill required... 'Let's open a restaurant and try to make some money shoveling out poorly prepared dishes without ANY finesse.' Again, the table soy sauce is among the most sodium Laden out there. And while that may have passed in a restaurant 30 years ago, it is unacceptable when there are so many delicious LOW sodium versions commonly available on the cheap. Get with it. You should be constantly improving the quality of the food and your cooking techniques. Adding complexity, not overly simplifying things that come out boring, not cooked properly with essentially parboiled vegetables. The mushroom pork that I ordered yesterday was terrible. Bland, steamed pork and uncooked vegetables with zero spice thrown in a boring sauce that I could've whipped up in my kitchen in two seconds. It was 100% liquid! Hardly something you would even refer to as sauce! Sure, it makes the hungry feeling in your stomach go away, but if you've been around the block and have been exposed to good food and exceptional restaurants, at some point one has to says themselves, why bother? This is a fantastic Chinese spot by Herndon ave. which is in the same plaza as Mountain Mikes. Easy to miss because it is tucked away in a corner but on the street side. I might have to say they have the some of the best pot stickers, beef chow fun, garlic noodles, salt and pepper wings, and ginger beef in Fresno. Space is clean and modern, service is nice and attentive. I must say I was intrigued by their Dragonwok fries (orange chicken covered with crinkle cut fries with sauce) which have been a social media foodie sensation. They did not disappoint! Well worth a stop by just for this dish, very delicious. The owners are from the popular former China Garden buffet in Selma that was off da 99. The fried rice was oily and the seasoning on the combo rice was lacking flavor and too salty. The only item I would recommend was the crab cheese rangoons but otherwise would not try again. My new go to chinese place! I ordered an orange chicken combo plate and crab rangoons (not pictured because i devoured them). It was still hot upon getting home so I was pleased to know it was made fresh. The portions are huge and absolutely delicious. The orange chicken was in huge tender chunks with breading that isn't overly sweet. Each chicken piece held just the right amount of crisp where you're not cutting your gums or contrary wise, eating mush. It's my opinion that while pan fried noodles as a side are delicious and "light" (for take out haha), I would like you to consider adding something small to bring it up to par with the entrees. Sesame oil maybe? The rice itself is very light so I think a bit more complexity on the noodles will make it just right. Ummmm okay. So let me be for real with you right now. We went here for lunch based on the 4.6 on Yelp. We were surprised at how warm the employees made us feel. We asked a little about the history of the business and found out that the owner's mother personally made the pot sticker skins and filling. They were the largest I have ever eaten and delicious. I use to go to a place called Chinese Garden in Selma and also they had another one in Kingsburg but both was sold .I heard that the owner son opened his own restaurant and me and my friend decide to go visit it. It wasn't dry at all but wasn't soggy or sticky! The chow mein also had good flavor as well! Portions were generous, probably enough for two people to share or to make it into two meals! They also have a variety of side sauces you can get (Sriracha, hot mustard, chili oil, soy sauce). The sriracha actually paired nicely with the orange chicken to give it just a little extra kick! We were four eating and ordered the family meal, three entrees and two sides, you also get 5 pork or veggie spring rolls. We ordered orange chicken, beef with broccoli and mandarin chicken. Probably the best orange chicken ever, very crispy and the mandarin chicken had a nice hot spice to it. The beef and broccoli was delicious as well and tender. Side dishes were bean sprout and noodles and fried rice both were good. Spring rolls were good and crunchy. We ate good and still brought home two take home boxes of leftovers.
