Fairly new sandwich shop opening up in the West Portal neighborhood focusing on Vietnamese sandwiches called Banh Mi. They offer benches to sit and enjoy your sandwich. Place is really clean. I tried their Roasted Pork and their Pop Combo Banh Mi. The Banh Mi were tasty and contained tender protein and decent veggie portions. The roasted pork was moist but wish they would have included some crispy bits of roasted pork skin. The Pop Combo tasted fine as well but nothing spectacular. The bread wasn't specifically memorable either. There are many Banh Mi spots in San Francisco so in comparison, I thought this Banh Mi was pretty much middle of the road with slightly above average prices. They also offer Pho but I did not try that this time.

    Hats off to DragonEats

It's always good to see a new place offer something the neighborhood did not offer before. A business fulfilling a need which was missing is a good thing especially if the food is good. There has been new Banh Mi spots opening around San Francisco this year. There is Banh Mi company with various locations around San Francisco which opened a store recently at West Portal and it is called DragonEats. Back on a West Portal stroll with no sun in sight I landed at DragonEats. Inside the walls were decorated with art which reflected Vietnam. This spot is more a takeout place. The menu was a pleasant surprise because I saw the roasted duck Banh Mi. So I got the roasted duck Banh Mi and it was so good. It was savory and tasty. The bread was not as flakey like some in SF. There are other Banh Mi at DragonEats I will try next time. A solid place to grab a Banh Mi if you are in West Portal in SF. Go on a Spring stroll as it's almost over "tears in rain" go Dragoneats it has so may locations in SF it feels like a "national chain " but when it comes to Banh that's their "domain "they have favorable ingredients but the baguette is the only thing like some in SF that's flakey and "plain" Dragoneats is where the roasted duck Bahn Mi is "made" once it's "paid" the ingredients are fresh "quality grade" you can wash it down some with "housemade lemonade"

Ordered the roasted pork and thoroughly enjoyed it! It was flavorful and packed full with ingredients. I imaging the other sandwiches and menu offerings are equally delicious.

The food is good lots of variety. The price is reasonable. The place is nice but there was no one to greet me at first. The place is simply decorated and modern looking. It looks very clean and inviting. It is near the Goodwill Store .

I stumbled upon DragonEats-West Portal after getting off the Metro. Looking for lunch, I noticed the crowd outside the nearby restaurant (cough cough...Tur). There were families with screaming children hanging out the door and a heck of a lot of Asian people inside. This was not the vibe I was looking for so I walk down the block and found DragonEats West Portal. It's their first day open! What luck! I've actually never eaten at a DragonEats shop so this was a good first test! The shop is modern, clean and bright with a window facing West Portal Avenue. The wooden benches made the ambiance feel like you might be at an indoor stall in an open air market. Cool French café music is playing in the background. I looked over the menu and bought the 5-Spice Chicken Bahn-Mi sandwich. There is a garlic butter chicken sando too but the 5-Spice has more seasoning - which means deeper flavor. There was a staff member taking my order - very polite! There is also a panel with fast tap ordering too (if you need to get out the door super quick & there's a line up). Surprise: I was offered a FREE beverage - a first day special! I asked for the Thai iced tea...not very sweet. I didn't have to wait too long to get my sandwich. The chicken in the Sando was moist (not dry). Chockfull of fresh chopped carrots, daikon and cilantro. Yum!! The bread was crispy and light. As a new shop in West Portal, I think this place is a great add to the eatery mix in the neighborhood. Not pricy, quick and healthy. I gotta come back and try the pho! Food: 5 -star (bahn mi Sando) Service: 5-star (in person or on a touch panel - you got options) Ambiance for a casual sandwich/fresh bowl/pho shop: 5-star

I stopped by DragonEats on West Portal after my dentist appointment. It was lunchtime and ordering via kiosk was straight forward and quick. I ordered 3 Banh Mi to try out: Roasted Duck, Roasted Pork, and Roasted 5 Spices Chicken. They were tasty but felt a bit lacking in meat, especially the Roasted Duck. I received a complimentary Vietnamese Iced Coffee, which was really strong and satisfying. Overall, a decent experience.

We stop by this new Banh Mi deli in West Portal. It's a welcome addition to the neighborhood. We had an ice coffee with coconut milk, shrimp roll and Banh Mi's roast port and combo. I've never had a Vietnamese coconut milk, it was good with a new twist. The roll was freshly made with fresh ingredients. Lastly , the Banh Mi's were spot on. They were quick and friendly. The owner, Vo, was behind the counter working and welcoming!! The place is very nicely designed and looked meticulously maintained. We love the walls which were like charcoal mural sketches. The prices are very reasonable. They also have Pho and we will definitely be back to try.

Sandwiches aren't toasted. Bread has to improve and so does the flavor of the chicken.

I had passed by it countless times on my bike ride to work without giving it a second thought -- until a co-worker suggested we stop in for lunch. That single visit changed everything. What I found was not just convenience, but quality. The menu was packed with deli classics, and the vibe was laid-back and welcoming, full of regulars who clearly knew this was the spot. I went with the Hot Pastrami Sandwich, and I still think about that first bite. Made with Boar's Head Top Round Pastrami -- hand-trimmed, rich, and smoky -- it was layered generously and coated with spices that hit all the right notes. The meat had that perfect deli texture, tender yet hearty.. They clearly take pride in what they serve, and it shows in every bite. It wasn't overloaded or sloppy -- just expertly made and full of flavor, the kind of sandwich that makes you slow down and savor it. What makes New College Hill Market even more special is the atmosphere. It's that kind of neighborhood shop where the cashier greets regulars by name, and even if you're new, you feel like you belong. Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch or discovering it for the first time, it's the kind of place that leaves an impression. For me, it's become a top lunch destination in the city -- unassuming, affordable, and blasting in flavors!

This is probably the only place where the sandwiches don't taste like the store's essence…read more I mean, don't get me wrong, a store's essence from any given deli/liquor store definitely adds unique character to the sandwich and sometimes I want that in a sandwich. But when you want a sandwich that only tastes like its ingredients, Irving Subs is the spot. Their Dutch crunch is famous for being fresh and actually crunchy. Their lettuce is shredded but fresh and crispy. The salt content is just enough to bring out the flavors. And the overall composition of their sandwiches are very well proportioned. You're not getting skimped, but you're also not biting into a mouthful of a packet of deli meat. They definitely know what they are doing. Service is good and ambiance is a small humble shop on the corner of 12th Ave.

I went here on a Thursday around 5:54pm for a quick and early dinner to go and there was no wait!…read more I ordered the TABLT and a Potato Salad. I loved how the Potato Salad had thick cubes of potato in it, since that gave it a nice bite without it being too mushy. The TABLT sandwich was also really good too! The sandwich was thick and has lots of meat in it. For the sandwiches, they also let you choose what bread you want it on and I chose Dutch Crunch which went well with it. The sandwich was very filling too, so I ended up only eating half of it. I'd recommend this place! I like how stuffed they make their sandwiches, but I've only tried one sandwich from them so far so I'll need to try more later.
