We stopped by for a quick lunch while in the neighborhood. I've had my fair share of Vietnamese sandwiches and have been on the hunt for the next best place. To start, the location has fairly easy metered parking, the shop was very clean but small and the woman/owner? was very sweet. When we got there shortly before 1pm, it was very busy and with only 2 chairs, 1 table and a bench to sit at. We ordered 2 #1- special combinations ($8.50/each) and an order of spring rolls ($6.99). The special sandwiches are cold meat with pate and all the fixings. For the price and size of the sandwich, it was worth it. The jalapeños in there were definitely giving it a kick, and the pickled veggies and cucumbers were definitely fresh. The bread was great, crunchy but not to a point where the bread was falling apart as you were eating it. The owner graciously offered us cups of water too since we were eating in, but we had our bottles of bottle so we declined. They also sell sodas and milk tea if that sparks your interests. The shrimp spring rolls were good, not great. It was fresh but nothing crazy special about them. We would probably skip out of those next time. The only issue we had was the register wasn't working. It kept glitching and at one point we paid but then it said an amount was still due. Not really the owner's fault, but the system itself. Overall, quick eats, yummy sandwiches, and nice service. As far as ambiance goes, it's really a take out joint, so enjoy your meal at a nearby park or the Richmond library. The grilled pork was pretty tasty, and upon reading other reviews on Yelp, I asked for extra pickled veggies and the owner happily obliged. I love that the bread was perfectly crispy yet did not give me roof takers. I'll be back to try the combo sandwich. Phi Long is a decent option for banh mi in the Richmond. My first visit was around when they first opened and initially, I was not super impressed. However on my recent visit, it seems like the sandwiches have gotten a little bigger and tastes pretty good. The combination banh mi has 3 types of thinly sliced meat and pate. The bread tastes fresh and I appreciate that the meat is thinly sliced. Overall, it's pretty solid but I think the pate is a tad bit salty, and there could be more pickled vegetables to balance it out. The coffee is super bitter for me and is made with condensed milk and milk. The meal combi is now $11.99 for a sandwich and drink. When they first opened, the deal was $10.88 but the sandwich was smaller and now the sandwich is a better size. I would rather pay a little more for a bigger sandwich. I'm still standing by my old 5* review but for the sake of visibility, I will give a low review for this one - as the prices are pretty affordable given the area and it's a small family owned business. Great to see they're expanding their menu here and there. I just want the owners to see this review. Only reason I'm writing my review is in hope the workers or owner here sees it. I dropped by to order some lunch and right before I ordered, one of the workers handed money change to the customer in front of me with the gloves she used to make the customer's spring rolls in. Delicious banh mi sandwich from this small takeout shop. We ordered 3 for takeout and arrived late to pick it up. The sweet owner offered to heat it up. We declined as the sandwiches were still warm. I ordered beef and hubby ordered pork. Sandwiches were sizable and had lots of meat with veggies on french loaves. It hit the spot! I've come here twice now and both times were delicious! They have a banh mi and drink special for a certain set price which I got! Their banh mi bread was flakey, and tasted very fresh! Didn't skimp in any of the fillings and customer service was great! My order didn't take long at all. I've had my fair share of banh mis growing up. My favorite used to be the chicken banh mi from Cam Huong all the way in Oakland Chinatown before they changed ownership (RIP.) I've been on the hunt for a replacement sandwich since then. Like many others have posted about, the giant sign outside the shop, displaying a sandwich + drink combo meal for $11.99, was the first thing I saw and was what drew me in. I ordered a chicken banh mi and a boba with high hopes that I'd finally have a contender, but I was disappointed. The French bread on the banh mi was rubbery and didn't have that satisfying crunch to it. The chicken tasted kind of old, too. I'm not sure if it's because I went in the afternoon, but their ingredients didn't taste very fresh at that time of the day? The boba was also mediocre at best; it was a little too sweet for my liking. I wouldn't be paying $4.99 for it outside of this combo meal for sure. The lady behind the counter took my order AND prepared it, so props to her for being a one woman show! I also see that this shop is listed on DoorDash, too, so it's extra impressive that she's able to keep up with online and in-person orders all by herself. The counter staff is incredibly kind and kept offering things to accommodate my family, like an extra bowl so we could share soup, and water for my little boy. Meatball sandwich- (3/5) the bread was soft and fluffy and held everything together really well. The meat to bread ratio was below standard and was a bit disappointing, but for $7.99 a Banh mi, can't really complain. Recently opened in Inner Richmond, next door to Noodle in a Haystack ($$$) and Wooden Charcoal Korean Village Barbecue House ($$), this Vietnamese sandwich shop may have found a niche for the more frugal breakfast/lunch crowd. Formerly occupied by a Russian deli, now this is a Vietnamese sandwich shop offering a limited menu of Banh mi to-go with very reasonable prices. All the sandwiches start at $7.99. And if you get it as a combo (with drink) then it's $10.99. They also can make fresh rolls for $5.99. I only saw shrimp version for now, but I'm sure they can make others if you ask. The drinks start at $2.99 and up but if you get the combo sandwich/drink deal, it's $10.99 making it a great deal and for those of us that like to try different variations. EDIT: After I wrote about the only negative so far, (they only offer meat sandwiches and nothing for the vegetarians) I read that they now also offer tofu sandwiches. So yay, vegetarian can now have one sandwich. Maybe they will expand their offerings once they settle as they have only recently opened. Taste-wise, the sandwiches are crunchy, filled and tasty. I got a #1 combination sandwich combo on their opening day and it seemed very light filling, but I got the sandwich again today and they definitely improved with more filling, so I think they are working out any kinks and taking suggestions from the neighborhood patrons. Tried thier combo sandwich today and the meat had a very strange aftertaste. Very strangely wet meat as well. The meatball was a whole mess. It was the blandest meatball sandwich ive ever had. It didn't even taste like real meat. It was pasty and tasted like it had some kind of strange filler to it. I've never had a meatball sandwich so hard to describe due to the weird taste and bad texture. The sandwich needs a better balance from veggies to meat ratio. I went to try this place as I was early for work and wanted to grab a coffee. I saw the review below me saying how they had a really good salted coffee so I decided to try it. I saw out front there's a sign for a deal $11.99 for a combo sandwich and a coffee. I ordered the salt coffee which I thoroughly enjoyed, the coffee was the right about of sweet (not too sweet but also not bitter) really well balanced! I ate the sandwich a few hours later and the amount of meat is on the generous side, the pate was good too! Might be that I didn't eat the sandwich right away cause the bread was kinda stale by the time I ate it but otherwise really solid option, I would go again if I were in the area. For the drinks, I got old faithful iced vietnamese milk coffee. #3 exceeded my expectations, so tender and mouth watering. #1 was just ok. #4 is good as is, and it was even better after I heated it up for a minute in the microwave. Got a dac biet banh mi (special combo) via Uber Eats. Pretty solid with all the right ingredients and seasoned well. The baguette was light and crispy. The inside was soft and chewy. Only thing I wish I had done differently was come by to grab it sooner. I suspect the baguette would have been way better freshly toasted. As I was eating the sandwich I really wanted to dislike it but just could not. Would definitely come back to try it fresh and see what else they have to offer (though extremely hard for me to stray from the dac biet).
