Proposition Chicken checks some boxes: It's a comfortable spot for a solo diner and, if you stick with a single entree, the price is reasonable for San Francisco. As much as I desired fries or onion rings as an accompaniment to my Fried Chicken Salad ($17.23 pre-tip) the added cost kept me from getting either. This proved a good thing as the salad was deceivingly filling. It's clear that Proposition Chicken knows how to fry. The chicken bites in my salad were perfectly executed and tasted quite good, especially when dipped in a cup of hot sauce. Yes, this was a salad but I thought it more interesting as fried chicken. The main 3 entrees (plate, sandwich, salad) are usually pretty consistent choices. I've had all three and the chicken was juicy and had great flavor. I usually order the Brussels sprouts along with my meal which is also consistently delicious with the amazing sweet glaze. The only coin flip here is the biscuits; Some days it's the best biscuit I've ever had: with a hot crispy sweet glazed exterior and a moist interior while other days: it's dry, lukewarm, and has no crisp. I've been to other locations of this popular chain, which offers a value proposition based on a panoply of poultry options. Oh yes, I've had their chicken fried, flipped, in salad bowls, and as wings and strips. All the choices I had made were quite satisfying, but I had never tried their "fake" option. I decided to take advantage of a location I had never been and ordered the $14.75 Fake Chicken Salad. Yes, they actually call it that because it's their veggie option. The chicken was replaced by Crispy BBQ Tofu, though the rest of the salad had their familiar ingredients - kale, romaine, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, mint, shredded Parmesan, and their house Parmesan dressing (Photo 8). It didn't quite work because I think the sweet BBQ sauce was at odds with the salty Parmesan flavor. I did violate my veggie meal with the $6.50 cup of Bone Broth (Photo 7), but the deep flavor made the poultry detour worthwhile. I ordered a gluten free chicken sandwich, and they screwed up my order and gave me a normal chicken sandwich. They were super apologetic and fixed the order and gave me a lot of extra chicken. So I would say that service was mixed because they screwed up my order, but super nice because they acknowledged and fixed the problem quickly and gave me a bunch of chicken. I finally stopped by this place for lunch. I ordered the entree, which comes with three pieces of chicken, a side salad, and a biscuit. You get to choose how the chicken is prepared, fried, grilled, or tofu, and I went with fried. Honestly? So, so good. When I think about fried chicken in SF, this is easily top two for me. The breading was light and airy but still perfectly crispy, with seasoning that made every bite satisfying without being heavy. The side salad that came with it was super fresh, with cucumbers and tomatoes, which balanced the richness of the chicken really well. The biscuit was good but not my favorite part of the meal. I also added on a side of fries, and they came with an aioli dipping sauce that I couldn't stop eating. No complaints there. I tried the bone broth too, which was savory and packed with umami. Perfect for sipping outside on a nice day, it added a cozy touch sitting out on their patio. The outdoor seating area itself is great, clean and well-kept, with a fire pit for chillier afternoons. Service was another highlight. The person taking my order walked me through the menu, made suggestions, and even checked in on me while I was eating. Our first time trying Proposition Chicken and I was very pleasantly surprised. I know there are a few locations around the city and this one replaced the Lemonade. Food prices in SF these days can be a little bonkers and it has become increasingly harder to find a value meal out there but I thought the fried chicken entree for $15.75 was affordable and well portioned. The fried chicken batter was a little less flavorful than I expected but I ended up dipping it in the sauce that came with it and that was delicious. The fry was done well and the chicken paired nicely with the cucumber tomato salad and cornbread like biscuit! All very tasty and I went home with a decent amount of leftover chicken.  The onion rings for $7 wasn't the biggest portion but apparently during happy hour it's only $5. We came for dinner and I have to commend all the employees since they were hustling being slammed with Ubereats and/or Doordash as well as regular takeout orders and us. We opted to eat in and they apologized for our wait which I didn't think was bad. Efficient service and it came with a smile and friendly attitude. Kudos to you guys! We also got the Peach Masala iced tea which was another winner.  Would totally recommend this place for an easy lunch or dinner and looking at their menu they apparently also serve breakfast sandwiches so breakfast as well. I'm still on the lookout for good chicken sandwich places in this city, so I finally decided to try this place. Anyways, I ordered it for to-go around 4pm on a Saturday and there wasn't much of a wait. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and also the Garlic Thyme Potato Wedges. Both items tasted good and I liked how the chicken sandwich had a slight spice to it! I want expecting the chicken sandwich to have that spice to it, but I still enjoyed eating it. I also thought it was cool how the potato wedges came with some type of ranch sauce, since I'd assume they would give me ketchup instead. I wanted try their chicken strips. They were a bit moist and not too breaded and paired well dipped with their sauces. They have a sauce station and they do offer some different sauces like ranch and bbq and blue cheese like some in SF. I next tried their onion rings. These rings came in different round shapes. They were crispy and soft. They were tasty dipped in sauce . I washed down with ice tea.Next time I will try their crispy matzo ball soup. Make sure to gear up with lots of napkins because this chicken war can get very messy and you may get splattered with sauce. So peace ( piece ) out with some chicken. New chicken sandwich place opened up at West Portal area in Sunset. We ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich and an order of the chicken wings for lunch. Instead of friend chicken, you can also order rotisserie chicken or a vegetarian option with BBQ crispy tofu. If having a sandwich isn't your thing, you can also order it as a salad or entree. The sandwich was a decent size with a big piece of chicken that was crispy. The sandwich came with minor condiments like some shredded lettuce and some sauce. I did find the chicken a little dry but overall enjoyed it. On the other hand, the BBQ wings were underwhelming. Not crispy at all nor had any smoky bbq flavors. I've been to Proposition Chicken several times now, and every visit starts the same way: someone genuinely welcoming me in. The team is always warm, attentive, and makes you feel like you belong. That kind of consistency says a lot about the culture. From leadership to the front of the house, you can tell they truly care about inclusion and building community in SF. The food is unreal. The fried chicken is hand down one of the crunchiest batter and skin I've had in a while. The spices they use for the chicken is quite delicious. The only sides that really wowed me was the fried onion rings! They seem to use the same batter as they use the fried chicken. Brussels sprouts is unclear if it was supposed to be to be not crispy? I came here for a quick dinner last Friday and it surpassed my expectations. Parking is a little hard just because it is West Portal. I have to say it is clean in there considering it's "fast food". Tried the new Prop Chicken in West Portal and the food was solid! We went on a Tuesday night around 7pm and it wasn't crowded so we got right in. We both ordered the fried chicken sandwich, which was served with homemade chips. The chicken was a little dry but it was served with a habanero coleslaw which had some heat! Enough for a meal. Priced around $14. They serve beer and wine in cans. I had a Scrimshaw beer which was pretty good, but no regular beers like Coors or Bud. We ordered at the kiosk, there was a staff in the front but we didn't know if she was available to order or not because she didn't ask if we were ready and she was writing some stuff down on a notebook. I forgot they have tap water at the corner (different area at market street), so we both ordered a sparkling water. I value the chicken meat over the chicken skin so below average in my eyes. The regular fries were nice and crispy but the side sauce was soupy and sour. With two young kids, we cook mostly at home and save our dining out for things that are "special." Proposition Chicken is definitely one of the few places in our rotation. This is an easy win for our kids. They love the chicken tenders. The fries are startingly great. (My other top fries are The Liberties on Guerero, and the now closed Flora in Oakland.) They have kids meals, so each kid can have their own thing and not break the bank. And lastly, this is the place my kids learned to love salad. I appreciate the craft of how they do it. I have made a lot at home and understand how time consuming and messy it is to do it right. You can taste the care. They clearly brine (as the meat is flavorful and tender), they pat dry the chicken (critical to keeping the fried batter adhered), then batter it. The crust is crispy while the underlying chicken is tender and flavorful. All the home cooked taste without any of the home mess. Bathrooms are sparkling and spacious. Outdoor patio is a nice scene--easy to watch your dog from. Service is friendly and customer oriented. If you have any problem, they fix it. So, just like with the Laurel location, our whole family loves coming here. Nice location, clean lines. Came before lunch rush and had extended conversation with the manager. We ordered a breakfast chicken sandwich and a fried chicken entree w a chopped veg salad. Also, fries and we tried all the accompanying and offered sauces. The habanero was sweet and had a nice spice presence. None of the other sauces were especially memorable. Menu offerings are a pretty good mix and include plenty of the standard expected fare. Things were made in reasonable timing, well prepared and nice looking, if spartan. Our items all came on mini aluminum trays, the fries in a little aluminum basket. This seems to be a popular, non fussy method with many quick serve places. Good amount of seating inside as well as the outside covered patio. I guess our prevailing thought was just: nothing was very standout or memorable. The fried chicken had a great crunch but not much flavor. 3 pieces and a side for 14.99 is fair. A fried chicken sandwich w over easy egg for ~ 11.00, decent value. But honestly, Chik fil A gives a larger tastier fried piece that fully fills a bun. If this enterprise can latch onto a more signature seasoning and flavor forward model, maybe incorporate a side or 2 that's a tad unique and stake out a reason to patronize them over other chicken-centric menus, I think they have a sustainable concept. read more

Chicken tastes like airline food. Just bland fried chicken sandwich, bland cucumber salad, the sandwich comes with chips which comes across kind of cheap. The potato wedges were the best thing. The rotisserie just tastes like bland baked chicken. Pretty disappointing. read more
