    My two jalapeno burgers.
    Elizabeth G.

Had a great time yesterday sitting at the bar opening up to the fresh air on a beautiful day outside for lunch. The bartender made me feel very welcome, giving alcoholic and non-alcoholic options right away and then, per my asking, excellent recommendations for food. He also was friendly and we enjoyed chatting during my stay. I had a delicious zero-proof blackberry sangria. I took up his recommendation to get the current burger special: one's choice of two or three jalapeno popper sliders. They were very rich and reminded me more of crab Rangoon. Still, I was delighted that he explained that these burgers are developed by workers nationwide at Drake's and then voted for by them in a contest of what should be on the menu. The burgers were very good, a little rich for my taste; what really stood out to me was the California Cobb Salad which he recommended I get as a side salad (a possibility without the chicken). I may return to Drake's just for that!

We placed a takeout order and the to go crew was friendly, but we were missing the requested utensils. The food was not so great. I ordered a queso burger with a side of mac. There was only queso on the edge of my burger, which was irritating, but salvageable because we ordered extra queso. The mac and cheese was awful though. I have had it in house, but this wasn't even comparable. I was expecting it to be baked, but instead it was watery and overly seasoned. It tasted like strained/thinned queso with shell noodles, nothing like what I have had when dining in. I'm not sure if this is standard for to go mac and cheese sides, but it was absolutely awful and there was no clear warning when ordering that it would be modified for to-go. To shed some light on this less than stellar visit, my partner got the slider burgers with a side fry and they were done just fine. The to go team also packaged the order well and was running out multiple orders at once in the snow. This experience dissuades me from ordering from this location in the future, which is frustrating with it being such a close option.

We started with the buffalo chicken dip the chips are spicy in a good way. My wife went with the mini cheeseburgers with fries. While I went with the salmon meal with broccoli. This is a Military friendly location.

After the Cards game, we decided to visit Drake's after having issues at White Castle. It was a sign to eat better food anyway. Ha! I first mentioned that I'm Deaf to the server. She replied, "No worries. I understand, and I will work with you." I lip-read, but that can lead to misinterpretation and clarity. A notepad and pencil work best unless I come across someone who knows ASL at a conversational level. Next, we ordered hamburgers and French fries--Dad's favorite food. There were zero issues, and Dad had never been to Drake's and was very impressed. Thanks, Drakes, for saving the afternoon.

Drakes is always a vibe, crowded but a vibe! I had the turkey Swiss avocado with tater tots! I paired it with a loose goose but made with Don Julio tequila. My companion had the mini cheeseburgers with fries and paired it with Drake's Hurricane. Food was hot and fresh! Drakes is always on the list when out shopping, craving, or indecisive moments! The patio was open on this pretty day!

Boneless buffalo wings & triple cheeseburgers

On a recent beautiful Saturday afternoon, we took our son out to dinner as a way to say "thank you" for a project he helped us with around our home. We visited the Drake's at 2651 Hurstbourne Parkway (our sons choice). We ordered the pretzel & cheese appetizer ($12.99). Our son had the triple double mini cheeseburgers with fries ($14.99). Our son also ordered the boneless buffalo bites ($12.99) my hubby got the crab Rangoon roll ($12.99) & I had the chicken quesadilla ($15.99). Everything was delicious!!! I tried one of the boneless buffalo bites & they weren't so spicy that they burned your mouth. My chicken quesadillas were the best I've probably ever had! I took more than half of them home because it was a lot of food. I had 1/2 of one of the pretzels & it was good as well. My son & husband went on about the crab Rangoon rolls. They both said they were the best they'd had in a long time. We all left there stuffed & each had a "to go" box to have a snack later. We had pretzel, quesadillas & the crab rolls leftover. My hubby & I warmed up the left over quesadillas the next day for lunch. We sat in the bar area when dining, they had the overhead doors open because it was so nice outside. It was extremely nice, except for the flies. That's the risk you take though when you're either eating outside, or someplace that the doors are open & there's food aroma in the air, you're going have flies. Our only issue was that one of them landed in my hubby's drink. He took it to the bartender & showed her there was a fly in his drink. She told him she would let our waiter know. When our waiter returned he asked if my hubby wanted another drink (he really only wanted what was left in his original glass). At first they charged my hubby for an extra drink, when I brought it to another individual's attention, they removed the replacement drink off of our bill. My hubby only took one drink of his replacement before we left. Our bill totaled $90 (before tip) which is pricy for 3 people, however it was definitely worth it, for the assistance our son gave us, as well as all of the delicious food we had for dinner, & then for snacks, & lunch the next day. We will definitely return, the next time we will likely split a meal to save some money. All in all it was a nice Saturday evening out with great food & awesome company!

Fish tacos and fixings. Guacamole, salsa, tarter sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and tortillas.

They have really good fish. The coleslaw was too chunky for me it was hard to eat with big pieces of cabbage.

Even my picky inlaws love their burgers! I love the mussels above all; but I also will tear myself away from mussels to have a delicious burger once a while. But those mussels!! Very few restaurants in Louisville can keep fresh mussels in stock on a daily basis. They're always cooked to just tender, never overcooked and shrunken like so many places. I just tried their September special "The Big Boil". Oh, bravo!! It was a big bowl of mussels, sausage, shrimp, corn and potatoes in a spicy Cajun style broth. It was all finger licking good!! I'm so glad I tried it! Now I need more! I even brought the broth home to use for more boils. If you like spice and seafood; you need to come experience this! Also hint: you don't have to fight the crowds and accept high tourism prices in this part of Louisville. Come on down!

We dropped in on Oaks night and even though it was pretty busy we were able to grab two seats at the bar. The only downfall of this was the time of day and the position of the Sun blaring through the garage door windows blasting me in the face however that cannot be helped or avoided, just a heads up for anyone who is super sensitive to the sun and arrives around sunset. I started with a Sunset Spritz and looked over the menu, there are so many great options to choose from and I was really torn on what to get but decided on the blackened Mahi Mahi sandwich (you can also get grilled or fried, but the bartender recommended blackened) and an order of sweet potato fries. The fries come with a side of a smoky pineapple chutney of some sort and even though I'm not a huge fan of anything that's really smoky it was absolutely delicious and a great combo. Seriously 10/10 recommend. The sandwich was also fire! I am extremely picky about sea food, especially since I used to live near the cost so it was always fresh and it definitely did not disappoint. I was so full when we left lol My husband got the beef sliders as his entrée with a side of regular fries tossed in roasted garlic pepper. I tried them and they were just OK. The sweet potato fries are definitely where it's at! I am really looking forward to going back and trying out some new items like the Cheeseburger Hand pies, Chicken tenders or one of their boozy milkshakes ... it sounds delicious doesn't it!

Bourbon and Burger's menu is at least 50% identical to Mussel and Burger Bar and has some overlap with Havana as well (both currently or previously owned by Ole Restaurant Group/Martinez/Lorenzo). If you like Mussel and Burger, you'll like this. And pay about $10 more per meal. The burgers are mainly in the $15-$18 range. For JUST a burger. Add an extra $5-$7 for fries and you're looking at a BURGER meal topping out around $25. That's more than you'll pay for a burger at any fine steakhouse. Shakes are $9-$15! $1 extra for ranch! We just spent $120 for 3 people. For BURGERS. I'm not sure who decided on this price point but it doesn't fit. The vibe of the place is very casual. The food itself tasted fine. I don't recommend the zucchini fries. Burgers are too tall - with 2 patties on them. We had to eat them in sections with forks and knives (no thanks). Service was very slow. I don't think our server actually ever checked on us the entire time we had our food. Towards the end of the meal, I noticed the server had taken my soda away. And never brought a new one. I have no idea why. The grass bull outside makes for a fun pic. The restaurant has a great ambiance and offers outdoor seating as well. We won't be back.

Particularly when chefs prefer fancy twists on familiar bar food. Our group of 6 adults and two grandkids had a hit & miss experience. My wife's fish tacos were a disaster. We requested blackened fish instead of fried on corn tortillas. Her dinner was a disappointment. Cold flimsy tortillas and cold fish with an overpowering aioli. No sides were included in this order. Another diner ordered the BLT. Again, they had to dress up the sandwich rather than stick to the classic. The pimento cheese did not enhance the sandwich. Another at the table went with one of Recbars "egg rolls". It was lead. Heavy, with an overpowering greasy, flavor. The "wrap" was so heavy, we couldn't tell what was inside. On the plus side, my chicken parmigiana sandwich was very good. Lightly breaded and fried, moist and covered with a solid marinara sauce and melted cheese. Served on a bun with tater tots. The cornflake chicken fingers were impressive. Large pieces, again. lightly fried. Service was friendly, patient & prompt. They only serve Pepsi products and if you're looking for a diet drink you've got one choice-diet Pepsi. Thankfully, they do offer unsweetened ice tea. Of course, there's a full service bar for "grown up" drinks. The desert, "oh cinnappy" ordered for our 9 yr old grandson was a hit with the adults. He preferred to hit the games. The rest rooms were smelly and messy. And one had no paper towels to dry your hands. But here is why we'll never go back. As we were ready to leave, the sky opened up. A drenching storm. My wife asked the hostess for a plastic bag to cover her hair. The response? Not my job, you'll have to ask your server. We were dumbstruck by that response. She's the greeter. And clearly has no concept of customer service. The servers were busy (the place was hopping on a Sunday night) and she was just standing at the front desk. No one waiting for a table. No one at the door. She just couldn't be bothered. So, we won't bother to come back.
