Service was ok, we were there to have a nice night out, uncommon for us these days. We sat at the bar and didn't expect the same service a table might have, but we did frequently go long periods without check ins. We had the slider burgers, juicy lucy style. This was all well made and came out as request. My date had the filet and chicken tenders. Filet was requested medium but came out very well done. We attempted to catch the attention of one of the very busy bartenders, but after 10 minutes of waiting just opted to eat it. I ordered a hurricane cocktail and the first was very well made. So much so that I requested a refill but unfortunately the two cocktails tasted nothing alike. After again attempting to get my bartender for awhile we just opted to have it removed off our bill and left. It was okay for a casual night out but I feel that they have more seats for patrons that they can actually serve. All the staff I encountered were speedy and polite. read more

The bartenders were extremely friendly and made an excellent Old Fashioned. I ordered chili and French fries. They were suuuuuuper busy when I visited here, and we were primarily there for a couple drinks so I was concerned that service might be not as great since we weren't high ticket customers. But it ended up meeting my expectations. I feel like if you have been in Louisville for at least a year...You know what to expect from Drake's. They've got ok food, a strange combination of bar food and sushi...but you know what to expect from them. I was initially not excited that my date suggested we go here, but you know what...it is inoffensive and just about everyone should be able to find something they will eat. We had a couple beers each and ended up sharing an order of sweet potato fries. Since we were obviously low-rollers (like...the opposite of high-rollers? just there for drinks and a nibble) it was difficult a couple times to get a server's attention to actually order something. Our waitress was good about making suggestions and checking in with us the whole time we dined. We enjoyed our dining experience and the food was delicious. The new location is nice for people who were a fan of the downtown spot but don't want to go all the way there and deal with parking. It was my first time eating at either and overall the experience was okay. We got take out because the restaurant was way too full in the time of COVID. We ordered nachos, which usually suffer a little when you're getting take out, but Drake's deconstructed them so that every ingredient was separately packaged. I really appreciated this and the nachos were pretty tasty. We also got the boneless Buffalo bites, which weren't anything memorable but definitely served their purpose. The reason for 3 stars is because of the salad. We got the Cobb with chicken and it didn't look or taste like any Cobb salad I'd ever had. It was essentially shredded cabbage with barely cooked, colorless chicken. It didn't look appetizing and ended up tasting just like it looked. I can see how this would be a fun spot to hang out and get drinks, but I'd stay away from any of the salads. We'll be sure to try a burger next time. I'm not a fan of non-sushi places doing sushi but I've heard good things so that's up next. read more

Drake's is one of those places I go when I want something familiar. I typically get the Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla or the Grilled Ham and Cheese. I'm a creature of habit. My party of two stopped in around lunch time on the weekend, and we opted to sit at one of the bars (there are two). The service was pleasant, and the food was good. My only disappointment was they no longer have Angry Orchard - this is a go-to for me. I was surprised at the number of beers they were out of (my partner's top two choices were both unavailable despite being listed on the menu). Stopped in with friends for dinner. There were 6 of us. We didn't call ahead just walked in. Wait time quoted was 35 minutes. Then we were sat in 8 minutes. That was good for us but that quote time can hurt a place if they don't have that dialed in. The dining area was busy as usual. Loved the Christmas decorations too. Especially the gingerbread man inflatable. I cannot remember our server's name but she did an ample job. Only criticism here is that she was a little long between apps and taking dinner orders. But she did a good job. The fried pickles and edamame were fantastic. Just enough salt content to get us to order another drink. My entree was the filet and crab Rangoon roll and a side of coleslaw. Roll and coleslaw were great. The 4.5 ounce filet was ordered medium rare it came out correct but as I was eating it seemed to dry out quicker. I'd say it's really hard to serve a consistent steak of that size. Cooking it to the right temp, holding it in the window for the rest of the table, then serving I'd say is challenging. Poor Management - Lack of Service Tried to visit around 2pm on Saturday 4/27/24. There were 5 of us. We were immediately seated at a table and then we waited and waited and waited for a server to greet our table. We finally asked a busboy if he could find our server. He mumbled something and still no one came over. We asked a young woman sweeping the floor if she could find our server as at that time we had been waiting about 15 min. Finally the male manager comes over and says our server went home sick, then he changes it to the server had a family emergency and the restaurant didn't communicate to the hostess that the table had no server. This is the 2nd time we've had this kind of experience when this particular male manager was working. We live close by and food is usually very good at this location so we would visit more often ... IF they didn't have such poor management and lack of servers. read more

Drake's is always a pretty solid choice, especially for a semi-local chain. I've been here a few times and the food has always been pretty good but the service is hit or miss. The few mixed drinks I've had here have been pretty light on the booze but I enjoy their burgers and their sushi is actually pretty tasty. It's a huge building and even though it's always packed, we've never had a problem getting a seat. I definitely recommend for larger groups since the menu has something for everyone. read more

Judging by the crowd at lunch on a Monday, this place doesn't need another 5 star review, but it is warranted. The beer cheese with the pretzels may be the best I've ever had. The BLT nachos were a very generous portion and really good. I had the Philly Roll and a poke bowl and both were perfect and also a very fair portion for the price. I regret not taking pictures. My wife and I enjoy Drakes food but the past two experiences have been 1 star. A couple weeks ago we ordered through DoorDash and they forgot to include an entire entree. The solution was to refund that part of the bill but never received the refund. Today we went in for lunch and the place was not busy at all (maybe 4 tables sat) and we waited 15 minutes for someone to say hi and although multiple servers passed us and looked in our direction no one approached us so we got up and left. Had a great first experience here as a date with my girlfriend. Prices were fair for the food quality and timely time to table. The fried pickles were excellent and very crispy. The sushi was far superior than expected and would highly recommend. The fish tacos were a bit of a let down and I would recommend elsewhere. Wonderful new location! Usually not on this side of town, but decided to join my friend for dinner and watch the start of UofL's football season. It was PACKED, but they got us in fairly quickly considering the line. I was impressed! Very clean and nice environment. Our waitress was so pleasant and helpful, it truly made the experience that much better! I've had Drake's many times and love their food (Aqua sushi is where it's at!), but hadn't been to the new location-- and I was pleased! My wife and I came to the new Drakes on Hurstbourne over the weekend. We were told it was a 20-30 minute wait even though there were multiple tables clearly open. I understand the universal staffing issues in restaurants, so this was not a problem. The problem was the staff who were there. We saw numerous employees chatting it up while people impatiently waited, staff walk their children out of the kitchen, waiters roll their eyes at customers, and we waited 15 minutes for our drinks. Our waitress told us it was because only one bar was open, but the bartender (at the open bar) was just gossiping with another employee without pouring drink for minutes at a time. -- It was all just very frustrating and a great example of what customer service has resulted in, post-pandemic. We love the Drakes in Lexington (both Tates Creek and Beaumont), The Summit, and St. Matthews, but this location just simply does not live up to the rest. read more

This is their newest location and at first it had some kinks to work order with waiting for your order but they have successfully fixed that. Their menu has a wide range of options for everyone. I switch it up by ordering the blue cheese and apple salad with salmon, mini cheeseburgers, sushi, chili and grilled cheese (best deal on the menu), or even the club. My second time at this location. The first time was good, good food, good service, broken air conditioner. But the sun was going down so it wasn't that bad. This time I ordered the chicken tenders and tots. The tenders were a little too breaded for me and the chicken was kinda under cooked. The tots taste great especially with ranch. I also ordered Drakes Margarita started out good but after a couple sips taste like watered down orange juice. This was our first visit to Drakes and it will be our last. I had the Teryiaki Chicken bowl and was shocked to see how small it was. At 12.49 I sure expected more. There were eight people in our party and as I observed the variety of dishes, I was not impressed with any of the food. So, I will say that Drakes lacks in value. Our server was good and attentive. When giving a $20 bill to a worker named Jamal, he said he needed to get change and proceeded to come back with only 2 dollars. No bartender when we sat down, no greeting from anyone who walked behind the bar (1 guy had on a red shirt), and no one engaged with us at all. 1st time there & it was amazing service & food thanks to our wonderful server Flo! Everything Flo recommend was delicious, the honest, suggestions & service was worth it all. Including how packed & busy it was, you could never tell Flo was spot on with timing of everything. My family isn't the easiest to please, but everyone was satisfied in the end.
