Meh. Ordered the rib plate with mac and cheese, potato salad and a sweet tea. Ribs seemed to be of a lower quality that I'm used to. Just ok. The mac and cheese needs to be completely overhauled. it looks and tastes like it's out of a box. No love in that recipe at all. Was also semi cold. Sweet tea was WAY too sweet. We are on a cross-country trip, spending one night in Mobile. We were so excited to here there was an amazing bbq place in town! We headed straight over. While it looked like the bbq meats were good, I ordered the BBQ Chicken Cobb Salad and it was a real disappointment. There was very little meat (like seriously 3-4 bites) and way too much iceberg lettuce. We also ordered the pork baked potato, and it was good. While I admit I did not order the best meal on the menu, no advice from our server helped to sear us in the right direction - and clearly we came excited, and left disappointed. A last note - two small draft local bears for $7 each... The meal was way too much for not great food or experience. read more

Not as good as Dick Russells. I didn't like the slices of bread that were brought out with sauce. Nothing special there. Tried quesadia as we were told they were delicious by staff at Mobile college.... not super impressed. Oddly enough, my daughter and I thought it tasted like a cheese sandwich. The mac and cheese was boring. We shared a pulled pork sandwhich and it was pretty good. Not great and I didn't need to look up any copy cat recipes, but it wasn't a horrible experience. This was the worst BBQ I have had in Mobile. Maybe the one in Tuscaloosa is better, but this was so bad that when I was in Tuscaloosa I didn't even bother to go. The ribs were really fatty - in that "we didn't really melt the fat out of them or even really try to cook them all the way through" sort of way. I would go to any other BBQ place before going here. I give 4 stars for the fried okra appetizer. I ordered tips and chips and give them 2 stars. I liked the smokiness and sauce but it seems the tips are left over rib meat. Ya know the hard over cooked ends with little juicy meat parts. The homemade chips are too hard & crunchy for my tastes. I'll try chicken next time. Service was slow on a Sunday. Waitress was super sweet and very attentive. BBQ sauce was tangy and some of the best we've had. Banana pudding was just OK. Everything else was lacking, big time. We stopped here for desserts. We had already eaten lunch but had promised the kids we would stop for something sweet. This place was listed as a place to have a traditional Alabama dessert, banana pudding. We are not banana pudding people, frankly haven't eaten it since being a kid. Both of our children had fallen asleep, but we felt like if we didn't stop here , we would be stuck stopping at a gas station or fast food place to pick up a sweet. We got into the establishment, kids still groggy, carrying one, we ordered the banana pudding and chocolate pudding desserts. After tasting it, we had the kids tasted it and we ordered a second helping of each to share. The banana pudding was really good, the first one was more cakey, the second had a lot more whipped topping. The chocolate dessert was equally as good. If I had dreamland near where we live, I would come more often to eat the desserts., made you feel like a kid. I used to love Dreamland. I grew up on KC BBQ and lived in Memphis for years so can appreciate good BBQ. However this place has really gone downhill over the years. When they first came to Mobile from up north several years ago, they bragged that their bar-b-que was so good they didn't need to sell anything else. Within three months they decided they needed to add side dishes after all. The meat is cheap and crappy. If you really want Bar-b-Que, go to Meat Boss on Cottage Hill Road. read more

Their sauce is the best thing about them. It's a good thing, too, because they don't spend much time on the meat. If you are expecting the meat to fall off the bones look elsewhere. Driving from Atlanta to New Orleans, and decided to stop in; I've heard a lot about this place. The BBQ chicken sandwich was excellent (mostly because of the sace). The sauce is tangy and not too swwet. I personally think the chicken is cut into too many small pieces, but the sandwich tasted yummy. The potato salad was fair. My riding partner had sausage and he says it was excellent. Macaroni and cheese was also very good. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 because the customer service was pretty bad. I will definite go back (because I drive this roue pretty frquently) but will be sure to get a different server. read more

4th of July order, takeout. About 25 minute wait, not too bad. However, the wait was not worth the slab of ribs. It was for a birthday too so I was really disappointed. They were tough, chewy, and no where close to being tender or falling off a bone. Tuscaloosa restaurant serves a lot more tender meat. I'm not sure if this was just a bad batch anomaly or par for the course here in Mobile. At least the beans and potato salad were good. Three of us ordered half racks of ribs, potato salad and beans. The ribs were soooo tough, you couldn't pull the meat off the bone. I addressed this to the waitress and she snarky said that meat isn't suppose to pull off the bone. I said to her, I know how ribs are suppose to be cooked and these were not cooked enough. My first taste of southern BBQ as a Californian. We were welcomed by our server with slices of white bread and their tangy BBQ sauce. Our server was very attentive to keeping our drinks refilled and making sure we had everything we needed. I ordered the ribs and sausage plate on recommendation from the server. It came with cole slaw and baked beans as my sides. The ribs were nothing extraordinary, and neither was the sausage. It tasted like something I could have gotten from any BBQ place in SoCal. The staff could smile more and be speedier on refills. I think they need to add more side dishes and give larger portions. It had been a while since the wife and I had gone to Dreamland until a few months ago. We go now to get the half chicken BBQ plate. If the chicken is just coming off the grill it is fantastic...very moist and tasty. We like the sauce just fine; it is tart and not sweet. They use to always bring out white bread but now they ask; it seemed a waste to me. Banana pudding is wonderful. They don't brag on the wings but they should. At night they always have a policeman there which does make you feel safer. Sometimes the service is not the best but other times it is great. read more

First off, check out their banana pudding if nothing else. Great stuff. Ok, now on the rest of it. Service is hit or miss, I have had attentive wait staff, I've had staff who have forgotten I existed and forgot to put in my order. Once the order is in, the food will arrive at your table fairly quickly. BBQ is great, not the best I've had, however in the Top 20. Ambiance is good, what you would expect from this place. Been to the original in T-town back 30 years ago, and it does not compare to that place (I've heard the original is not the same now either). If you want better BBQ, and you're in T-town, hit Archibald's in Northport. Good luck finding it, and good luck getting there in time to get some food. read more
