Certain things needed more salt than others but i didnt & don't mind. The fried chicken is off the chain. The greens were wonderful. I just really like greens though. Minuses to cornbread being more dense and sweeter but it was still good. The smother pork chop is pretty rad too. I love southern food. I love food. I really enjoyed talking to the lady who took our order. She was very nice and provided us with a lot of good advice on how to deal with our kids. However, since this is a restaurant review on to the food items. We got the fried chicken. I was hoping and expecting to be blown away, but it was just OK. The collard greens were delicious. The mac and cheese was only OK. I can only comment on the items that we had. I will assume that all of the other menu items are great. Our experience was just not good enough for me to justify the longish drive from Bedford to give it a second chance. Wish it was better. read more

Ran into this place while out shopping. My chickababy and I wanted some good southern cooking, so we decided to check out this spot due to the reviews. We were so pleased to have stopped by. The food although slightly pricey, cus I'm cheap, was sooooooo good. I would totally return if I am in the area. I had the dinner catfish and the hubs had a chicken fried steak. The spicy catfish was off the chain and my hubby almost licked his plate clean. I was able to take some food home, but as soon as I hit the door my the hubs had devoured my left overs. I was craving catfish and I heard Drew's had it going on - so I grabbed my mom for a lunch date and off we went. I'd been wanting to try this place for ages. Parking is a definitely problem at this place - we lucked out with street parking. As good as the catfish was, I instantly regretted my purchase. The fried chicken that almost everyone ordered looked so on point. According to who I believe was the owner, the fried chicken was the best thing on the menu. Looks like I'll have to come by for that next time! Catfish (spicy) was great, had a small flavorful kick to it - but I think the portion size was very small. Other catfish places in FW gives you giant fillets though they aren't as tasty as these were. Tartar sauce was very heavy on the mayo and relish, so I went without. Sides: fried okra (on point!), mac & cheese (not very good, tbh). Dessert! The Italian cream cake was so good, we had to stop ourselves from eating it. Every now and then, you just have a craving for southern comfort food (at least I do...if you don't, you haven't been in the south/southwest for too long). So one afternoon I was in the mood for some delicious fried chicken, but I wanted to avoid the chain restaurants with their assembly-line process. I happened upon this gem on Curzon ave. Small restaurant, which looks like it has been there for quite a long time. After walking in and ordering a fried chicken dinner with mac and cheese and slaw, I was surprised when I was told that it would take 20-30 minutes (call ahead if you are taking out). Since they were cooking the chicken from scratch (ie. battering, seasoning, etc), I did not mind at all. At long last my order was called up, and I took the bag and dashed home, the smell of hot fried chicken wafting at me. Amazingly, even though it was a 20-30 min ride back home, the chicken stayed super hot...to the point where I had to wait a few minutes for it to cool. I suppose if I ate at the restaurant, the chicken would be lava-hot. Still, the chicken was perfectly juicy, and the battering was crispy and flavorful. So why, you may ask, the four stars instead of five? Well, it may have been the choices of side item, but I did not like the mac n cheese or the slaw. Next time I'll try some other sides and I'll update my review accordingly. Until then, be sure that Drew's has fantastic fried chicken which you should definitely venture into Como for. read more

I was introduced to Drew's Place by my grandmother when I was a kid and have been grateful ever since. Drew's is run by a tight nit family whose values pour over into the business. When you first walk in, you will see a green bench for those waiting and past that a bevy of dining tables to dine in at if you so choose versus the take out option. Upon getting to the line you will have the opportunity to browse the menu options and these range from a number of home cooked style meals, including chicken fried steak, yams, red beans and rice, greens etc (None of which are greasy). There are a number of options to pick from. When you are ready to order, you are generally waited on by someone in the family being the wife or if not another employee just as courteous as if they were family. They will also have desert options right next to where you order so you can see before deciding. These range from lemon, sweet potato, coconut, pecan, and carrot cake usually. After ordering, you can sit down at one of the tables and the food is prepared in a timely manner, not too long but not to short either that would lead you think that it was undercooked. The meals are great and the ambience is serene, so there is never usually a loud environment inside. If you want to order takeout, they do give the option of calling ahead of time and placing an order, so you dont have to wait any longer than you have to. Once you taste the food though, you'll be hooked, so beware. If you are a fan of southern style cooking, you are in for a treat. read more

Recently went to Drew's for a big meal. I was very hungry. Ordered the five piece fried chicken meal. I believe it was a special that day. Waited a very long time but place was busy at lunch. When it arrived, had only four pieces of chicken. Took a while to get attention of staff and the lame excuse given was a vegetable counted as a piece of chicken. Forget that the sides came with the meal which was expensive. Being hungry with impatient people lined up behind me, I walked off with my tail between my legs. Could not enjoy the food. I first went to Drew's a couple of days ago and cannot stop thinking about it. The service was spot on especially for showing up right at the busiest period. we got one of the last tables before the wait. I ordered the fried chicken plate with mac and cheese and red beans. the fried chicken was cooked to order so it takes a bit longer but it is worth the wait. If you don't have time you can call ahead and they will have it ready for you when you get there for dining in or to go. When the chicken arrived it was still glistening from being freshly pulled out of the fryer. The crust was flavorful and crispy and stayed on the meat instead of sliding off in the first bite. The chicken was fully cooked but remained moist while I ate it. Delicious! The red beans were seasoned perfectly and were tender and delicious. The mac and cheese was moist without being soupy and very flavorful. I did not get any dessert because the portions are enormous and filling. As I was checking out, the woman at the counter asked if it was my first time there, I told her it was. She asked me when I return if I wouldn't mind bringing someone that hadn't been there before. The food here rarely disappoints. The service is unfortunately lacking. The last few times I have been, I usually have to wait 40 to 50 minutes for my food when they quote 20 minutes. Today is the same. I placed an order in person and they told me 20 minutes. I came back after 20 minutes and it was not ready. A group came in after when my order was supposed to be ready and placed their order. They were talking to staff and 15 minutes they they got their food while I was still waiting. As good as their food is I will probably not go out of my way again to get food there. I feel they will sacrifice customer service for everyone else in lieu of friends and families. read more

Very good place have eaten here several times and love the smothered porkchops they are very tender however the parking is set up very weird and the sweet potatoes lack cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar. Aside from that The broccoli and cheese casserole is delish and the cakes and pies are always good. Other than the sweet potatoes and parking I have no complaints read more

We went tonight for my husbands birthday because it was something different. So here is the deal - we walked in at like 5:59 and were told we could sit at table 9. There were five of us so we all trooped over and sat down. The gentlemen says, "we are out of chicken and fried wings" to which we said ok we would find something else. He gave us menus and walked away. The waitress came over and asked us for our drink order so my husband ordered tea. She commented that they were out of tea. At this point I was thinking I had made a huge mistake in going there. Another waiter came over and said, "we can make chicken" so the waitress just looked at him and said he could wait on us. I am sure we all had strange looks on our faces so he said we close at 6:00 but "she" said we could do chicken. Of course I said "oh no we didn't realize you closed at 6 we would just go somewhere else and come back another time". He said "no it's all good". I said, "no we don't want to make you do that" to which he said " "make us do what"? I said we didn't want to make them stay later and he said they would be there anyway. I don't know who "she" was but I am glad she told us we could have chicken and that we could stay! ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!!
