Driftaway Cafe is a fun spot to go for local seafood and a laid back atmosphere. They have everything from sandwiches and tacos to steaks and fish entrees. It may be off of the beaten path, but the flavors and atmosphere are local through and through. We started with the crab dip to share. It was heavy, but full of delicious crab meat and served with toasted bread. We cleaned the plate! I had the Ahi Tuna Tacos, which were so flavorful and fresh. The ahi tuna was seared rare, and it was topped with corn, salsa and a spicy sauce. I love love loved the tacos, and the fries that came with it were cooked to perfection! Don't expect fine dining at Driftaway Cafe; it has more of southern diner kind of feel. However, the food is really delicious. Get the tuna tacos! read more

I can't say enough nice things about this gem. The waitstaff are so friendly and accommodating. Every time we come to Savannah, lunch at the Driftaway is a must. This last trip we ate twice here because I had to get one more taste of the tuna tartare before getting on the plane home! The wine list is expansive and the pours generous. Our waitress was super knowledgeable about the wines and beers. Her recommendations were spot on. The star of the show: the tuna tartare. Just the best I've ever had. So many flavors. It's an appetizer I struggle to fairly share with my husband. My favorite salad: tuna Niçoise salad with the House balsamic. So delicious, huge portion, and flavorful. My husband always gets the Baja fish tacos and loves them. So fresh and delicious! Just a lovely experience and I can't wait for my next trip to Savannah to repeat it. Thank you! read more

Fun dining experience with the family (& dogs!) with some great seafood! The prices were reasonable and the portions definitely hearty. Of all the things we ordered I would highly recommend the calamari appetizer (the sun-dried tomatoes were a great touch) and the salmon tacos (loved the mango salsa). The biggest perk of the place is definitely the management (or owners not quite sure)! They were the epitome of Southern hospitality. Our two dogs were with us and not only did they allow them to dine on the patio, but they brought them water and more than once did one of them come out to pet/play with our dogs. This is my Aunt/Uncle's favorite restaurant in the area! We met them there for a relaxed "catch-up"! We were a party of 8 and only waited a few minutes to be seated. Firecracker shrimp were good, nice and hot, crispy. Had an off taste to the sauce though. shrimp and grits were horrible. Shrimp was old-tasting, couldn't even enjoy the grits for how much soggy cheese sauce the concocted in the kitchen. this meal had me gagging, literally. So driving here I was a bit hesitant but boy was I pleasantly surprised. The address for Driftaway Cafe still says Savannah but it's definitely a part I've never been to or knew existed. However, they have the sweetest servers with good old southern hospitality and the food speaks volumes. As soon as I had a bite of a few appetizers I was sold, and the best part is it just kept getting better. The menu has a huge variety and really caters to everybody's taste buds from traditional southern staples like fried green tomatoes and shrimp and grits to plenty of seafood options, tacos, sandwiches, wraps and even breakfasts. We started off with seared tuna as well as the calamari, both were cooked to perfection, the calamari was not over cooked which is so easy to do. Now for lunch since we were a party of 6 our orders were all over the place but all were perfected and delicious. My husband went with their fried shrimp tacos, my mom ordered their catch of the day ( grouper topped with crab and cheese), I opted for the gnocchi with mushrooms, and then the kiddos went with the tuna tacos and biscuits and gravy. Now we came to celebrate my mom getting a new job and heading back home and this place just made the moment that much more special. I have to add presentation isn't top of the line, more simple but it's ok because flavor is everywhere. We even ended the meal with dessert which is never a bad decision but it was truly phenomenal. Both the key lime pie and chocolate cake are reasons in themselves to come back this way. I only have 2 months left in Savannah but hopefully will check this place or a few more times. read more

I lunch here with the Habersham Y AOA several times! The private dining room is excellent for meetings! The service is outstanding and very accommodating for a large group! Food is always great! Two words: crab. dip. My friend and I come here on Sundays after church, and it never disappoints! Rather unique setting with interesting decorations. Service was fair to middlin' ... still working on it after opening back up due to COVID. Good wine list with some different selections. The chips in the loaded Potato Chips were good but the rest just didn't work for me. The Firecracker shrimp - meh - tasted like fried shrimp with a tad of hot sauce on it. The Salmon Salad was a huge piece of salmon cooked perfectly atop salad greens. The Salmon special, on the other hand, was a small albeit tasty piece of fish. The Scallops were cooked perfect but there were only 3 and a smallish serving of pasta. The winner was the Tuna dinner. There were 2 huge pieces of tuna and tasted great. I would order the tuna tartar and call it a day! I enjoy the asian motiff: wasabi mayo, sesame seeds, and fried wonton chips. Indoor and outdoor seating with comfy booths. I would avoid brunch here as it is packed, but the food also comes out jumbled. My friend green tomato eggs benedict was a mess and unappealing. The cocktails are light on the alcohol. I am really quite shocked at the good reviews for this place, the service was near clueless and the food was priced absurdly for its quality (entreés are priced at around 24$) , it was clear that the ingredients used were quite low quality, just done up to look a bit nicer. We were rather disappointed in this place after reading all the great reviews. To make matters worse, after I posted an honest review on TripAdvisor the owner responded with a snide comeback. I was shocked at his spiteful, unprofessional response. Our family was in agreement that this was our least favorite meal on our vacation. The place itself is quaint and casual. The food was just ok. The French toast is too good. I shouldn't know about it! Lol. My husband says the salmon is always cooked to perfection. They have my favorite salad in Savannah, mostly due to their amazing house dressing. I think it's a vinaigrette, but the texture and taste is so much better than that. I did have a very, very sad French dip sandwich there last year. The little bit of meat that was on it was almost pure fat. But everything else has been very good. It often takes a long time to get our food, but the service (and sweet tea) is great in the meantime. Their wine and beer list looks great; we hope to try some at dinner time sometime soon. read more

What a great lil gem outside of Wormsloe Historic Site! Debra took AMAZING care of us - funny and attentive. There is a quite beer selection, both on draught and bottled, from several states but local too. There looked to be wine aplenty, too, I just stuck to beer. As for food, the crab cakes have a slight kick and are more wet. Very good! The French fries are golden crispy and addictive. Another dining companion had the grouper sandwich, about which he raved. We visited here after a morning tour of Bonaventure Cemetery. It was about 10 minutes from the Cemetery, and probably 15+ minutes from downtown Savannah. It is also near the Wormsloe historic site and the Isle of Hope community, in case you are visiting either of those and need a meal close by. Once we found the restaurant, we could not find parking in the adjoining lot. However, they do have an overflow lot across Skidaway Road, so we were able to park there and walk over. I was apprehensive at that point, given the number of cars, whether there would be a long wait, etc. However, the restaurant interior (and deck) are larger than they appear from the street-side. We visited just before 1 p.m. on a Friday, and they were right at full capacity. However, a table opened up and we were seated within 5 minutes of arriving. A table at the back overlooks a small creek, which is nice. Service was generally good though the servers were handling a lot of different tables. As we had reservations at a nice restaurant for dinner, and given that we were dining a bit later than planned for lunch, I went light. I just had a salad, which was quite tasty. My wife had the fish tacos, which she liked. If I were back in the area, I'd consider a return visit here. read more

Came across this wonderful Gem while traveling for the first time in Savannah! The food was DELICIOUS, service from out waitress Angie was great and the atmosphere was nice! There was live music at the entrance that really made it an even cooler place! We ordered the chicken egg rolls (appetizer) & shrimp n grits for our meal. There are so many restaurants to choose from and I find my list to eat it is always longer than the list I have been to. With that being said I go here all the time. All. the. time! Any occasion I'm there. Sometimes I try new things and there are some entrees that are just staples. Any of there fish dishes are wonderful. Tonight I had salmon covered in a wonderful sauce paired with eggplant and asparagus. I have tried their tuna and many other fish and have yet to be disappointed. Now two staples at the top of my list are their fish tacos and the fish and chips. The fish and chips are that thin, fried, and batter fish. My word those are heavenly. Also priced very fairly. For $16 you can get four decent pieces of fish along with fries and coleslaw! Sides on sides right? My second staple is the fish tacos. Just try them you'll appreciate the recommendation. If you're in the mood for an appetizer I would also highly recommend their crab dip. Inside this place is cute. It is tucked away with a gravel parking lot (and additional parking across the street). Also it's always packed. Which means it is good. Lots of tables though so no worry I have never had to wait to be seated. The gardens are adorable and there's a mini waterfall in the back and the entire restaurant just feels like home to me. Please give them a try! My friend and I strolled in for lunch, the place was packed! The lot was full, so we parked across the street. We were greeted upon entering and seated quickly. I ordered ice tea along with the fish 'n' chips. The food came out within 10-12 minutes, very fast! The meal was delicious and there was plenty of food (enough for two people). Service was very prompt and friendly. Waitresses were busy but still very sweet and good-natured. All in all, very happy with my visit. read more
