I liked the fact there was not many people there but I feel like there's a reason why there's not many people there. The music selection very hard rock country, which isn't my thing + really loud, almost impossible to hear. Bartender was nice though. Lol read more

Never Again - and I highly recommend it. My trip to this place wasn't a visit - it was an incident ! I unfortunately went in there on October 4, 2014, Saturday night at about 6pm. The bartender was an emotionally erradic white male with dark hair. There were only 2 lady, customers in the place, sitting in the from t below the front window. I ordered a coke and started chatting with the bartender who was immediately irratable to hostile. I told him I hadn't been there for several years since it was a gay bar. 3 months before this incident, there was no gay flag out in front of the place, but now there was, so I asked if the bar was a gay bar, (btw - Im gay). And the bartender gave me poisonous attitude and tone of voice and bit my head off, "Oh, aren't we ALL over all of that by now" and I was appalled at the venom in which "it" was spitting it out at me with. I calmly smoothed the ruffled feathers and started reminiscing that about 5 years ago, the last time I was there, that there were "go - go boys" that used to dance on the bar, and he said something about folsom street fair, and I asked , really still. go - go boys dance on on the bar here ?" I was just surprised because now the place looked so sophisticated and upscale, (like the rest of the neighborhood is now), and he exploded in anger and started screaming at me, "WHAT DID I JUST TELL YOU !!!!" I just calmly told "it", "Uh, . . . . I find you to be quite abrasive and I think Ill just tip toe away" I got up and turned away to walk out and "it" pleaded for me to stay and I just kept stepping, as I heard the "twighlight zone" theme play in my head. Just before I got to the door to leave, "it" called me a dirty name as I walked out. Its really a shame that these sorts of people get positions like this and drag down the gay culture. And unfortunately, this behavior is NOT uncommon. The Drift wood is a beautiful elegant bar. But they need to clean the stain. read more

Driftwood is a very welcome addition to SoMa. The place is super cozy thanks to an incredibly friendly staff, comfy arm chair + couch seating, and warm lighting. Oh, and there's a fireplace. In case it doesn't warm you up, however, the deliciously strong cocktails probably will. To top it off, the music choices are pretty top notch. read more

Just came in here for a drink since we were early to our dinner reservation down the street. It does get quite busy on a Friday happy hour time so if you want a good seat or anything definitely come early. They have good beers on tap and a list of cocktails that were strong and good :) read more

Came here a couple of months ago for a private party. I drank, I danced, and I drank some more. Cool space, great service. The area in the back was cozy and chill. Will definitely return to hang out as there are a lot of good bars in the area. read more

My friend and I ended up catching the tail end of Driftwood's last call after a pretty peculiar club experience. Maybe it was purely circumstantial, but it was pretty nice to end the night here. Bartender was super nice (forgot his name tall-ish muscly white boy but thank you!), and the environment is simple and nice. What can I say haha great place for a beer. read more

Please READ THIS! We went as a large group for drinks. The bartender (the one with brown hair who was wearing an orange t-shirt on Sat Nov 8th-- just in case the bar's owner is reading this) asked us somewhat rudely, but not terribly so, to make room for him to be able to get by so he could more easily come/go from behind the bar. We apologized and moved over. Well apparently not enough. About 5 minutes later, he quite obviously and maliciously lowered his shoulder and intentionally rammed into my arm that was holding a drink. As you can imagine, the glass did one of those awkward bobbles, leading to the liquid flailing about ultimately landing on my friend's coat. (The easy way to know it was on purpose was that he sheepishly kept his head down and avoided eye contact with our group afterwards even though we were staring at him for a good couple of minutes). I would like to have given him the benefit of the doubt, but when the group of us who experienced this went on to inform everyone else in our larger group about what had happened, a good number of them informed us that this same bartender had likewise been a jerk to them. So, if you like bartenders with emotional difficulties, who apparently dislike working in crowded spaces (even though bars are supposed to be crowded) and are more than happy to purposefully spill their customer's drinks, go to Driftwood. Ironically, the group of 15-20 of us immediately left after this incident, even though we were planning on staying for another hour or two. So, to orange-shirted bartender: you probably lost a good $50-100 in tips from us, and to the owner: you not only lost a good amount of money last night, but thanks to the orange-shirted bartender, you've lost 15-20 potential return customers, and you're now faced with this unpleasant review. read more

Dunno, I just really like this place. My new go-to spot in Soma. The bar stools are neat. The Black Scottsman is my favorite cocktail.

The bartender that always wears the beanie is really a dick; threw a menu at me the told me he was stressed out. My friends tried to stand up for me, and he barked back that he was busy and didn't have time to deal with us. I really like coming to this bar, but will not be coming back any time soon because of this bartender. He's in the business of being nice to people. read more

Came here to catch up with a girlfriend the other day and we were the only females in the place. It was full of guys but it must of been because we were pretty early. Other than that, I have no qualms. The vibe is super chill and I highly recommend their house cocktail, forgot the name but they had it on tap as it was an interesting mix of Cucumber, Vodka, Wine, and Lime but my friend tried a few of their other cocktails, and although they were all pretty strong, they were tasty. The bartender was really nice and inviting, plus there was no pressure to keep ordering more. You can dress casual or business casual but for the most part it's not super dressy. They have a DJ that I think later at night the place gets much more lively and people dance. The ambiance was right up my alley, a little dim, they had candles, the Driftwood lit up sign was visible in the back, and it's a good place to have long intimate convo with someone or hang with a group of co-workers/friends, it wasn't too loud when we were there (5:30-6:30p, Thursday). read more

Really cute bar! Went here after dinner at Kama sushi (amazing). Lots of wood inside which the kind of ambiance I like. Drinks were normally price- $6- $7 for a beer. My glass of red was $9 which I would say is standard. Would definitely come here again if I was in the area. read more

Nestled in the heart of deep SOMA, Driftwood is a solid place for drinks. Pretty decent beer on tap, intimate interior, solid cocktails.

New favorite bar in SOMA. Came here on a Wednesday night with coworkers and we were relieved to find space to sit down during happy hour. I had the black scottsman (blackberries, lemon, egg whites and scotch which I replaced with gin) which was delicious. Very cool vibe, seems to attract nice people. I'll be back soon! read more

I found this place while "yelping" for new bars in SF to check out. It's such a cool, casual atmosphere with a nice ambiance. The bartenders were nice and the drinks were great. We got there at 10:30pm and ended up staying til 1:00am. It's a great place to chill out, relax and enjoy a yummy drink with your friends. read more

Cocktails are fabulous. I got the Fire in the Hull which is like a pisco sour, and I got The Pomelo, which was my fav. It's smokey from the mezcal with a touch of sweetness. The bartender was very nice/chatty and knowledgeable about the drinks. One even made my friend another drink for free because a gnat flew into hers. Not the fault of the bartender, but it was good service! Ambience is dark and simple, music was decent and not too loud which was great because we could actually have a conversation. While full, it wasn't wall to wall people..which was another plus! read more

Very, very rude bartending staff. Their product isn't anything to write home about, their flooring is unfinished wood, their seats uncomfortable... If their bartenders are jerks, really... why should a person come here at all? In retrospect, being smashed probably didn't help the multiple bartenders judgement on what was acceptable or not. read more

Great SOMA bar! It was less crowded than other places when I went on the weekend. A nice place for a first date. Lots of places to sit and talk and the music volume was low enough you can carry on a conversation. read more

Dishonest bartenders here. I ordered five drinks with friends. The bartender did not give me a copy of the receipt, so I took a photo of it using my phone. Later, I saw that he charged me more than the total on the receipt. It's very likely that I wasn't the only one, because it's an easy scam when you don't provide a receipt. Always ask for a copy of your receipt or take a photo yourself. read more

I was here at a private party to celebrate my daughter's wedding. Can't say enough good things about how they worked with us to make all the arrangements for the party perfect.
