We really enjoyed our experience at this restaurant. The overall atmosphere is lovely, high-end, and very elegant and intimate. The dim lighting with the focused overhead lights on each table creates a really classy, almost romantic ambiance that makes the space feel special without being overly formal. One thing that really stood out was the service. Every waiter we interacted with--from the moment we were seated to the time we left--was incredibly kind, attentive, and accommodating. Multiple staff members checked in on us throughout the evening and everyone was warm, engaging, and genuinely pleasant to talk to. It made the experience feel very welcoming. For food, we ordered the barbecue combination platter, which we really enjoyed. We substituted the brisket instead of the pulled pork, and that turned out to be a great choice. Everything was flavorful and well prepared. The French onion soup was absolutely delicious--I devoured it almost immediately. The bread was also very tasty and paired really nicely with the meal. The only dish that didn't fully stand out for us was the bolognese. It may have been partly because we were already pretty full by the time it arrived, but we felt it could have used a bit more depth of flavor. I've dined at this restaurant many times, and also ordered out through Doordash a handful of times as well. Ordinarily, I would give this restaurant a 4-star rating/review - the food here is usually good to very good. But my experience last night having food delivered to me from Dry Creek Grill via Doordash, was not only disappointing, but disturbing and pretty scary as well. I ordered the "Mixed Grill", the cornbread, and smoked meatballs. The cornbread was really good, although they didn't include the honey-butter they should have. The meatballs were delicious...although very dry and wayyy overcooked! For the most part the food was really very good. But the Mixed Grill included what was supposed to be barbecued pork ribs. I was REALLY looking forward to the ribs because I generally LOVE barbecued ribs! However, last night the pork they used in the preparation of their barbecued ribs was clearly spoiled and not fresh.... Have you ever had the experience of buying raw pork chops or pork ribs, and then leaving them a couple of days too long before cooking them? They start to smell bad, then worse, and worse over time as the meat decays. If you make the mistake of cooking them at this point, they will taste bad and rancid as well (regardless of how much barbecue sauce you might smother them with). The ribs I got last night from Dry Creek Grill were BAD. I took one bite and knew immediately the pork was spoiled. I had to spit it out for fear of getting sick from eating it. A restaurant has a responsibility to make SURE the food they are preparing for their guests is both fresh and safe. The pork ribs I received last night were neither of those things. Dry Creek Grill dropped the ball in making SURE their pork was truly fresh before the cook(s) decided to prepare it for their barbecued ribs. I was very lucky I didn't get sick. The County Health Department would probably be interested in knowing about the incident. Dry Creek Grill should know better, and their management needs to know when something like this happens, and take appropriate measuress to ensure something like this NEVER happens! Not good! At least Doordash was pretty good about giving me a partial (and reasonable) credit for my experience. I certainly hope my experience isn't common for this restaurant, but who knows? Too bad...as if the restaurant business isn't hard enough already... There's a lot of competition out there. This is just one additional way in which a restaurant will fail. read more

We continued celebrating my sister's birthday, this time at Dry Creek Grill San Jose. We ordered a mixed bbq plate, tempura blue beans, Brussel Sprouts and mixed mushrooms. They comped a dessert for her birthday, we chose a chocolate lava cake. The portions are large for all. The bbq is super delicious. The mushrooms were just right, not too salty. The Brussel sprouts were crispy and the tempura beans were tasty. I only wished if the dipping sauce for the beans were the Japanese tempura sauce. Our waiter Alain was great. Easy to see that I'm a repeat customer at DCG, especially while on my former turf in the South Bay. I enjoy the scene, as DCG has a more romantic loungey vibe in the bar area (dim lightning and the lower "twirly chairs"). The first visit of the week, I had a prep of the Deviled Eggs, followed by the bountiful meatloaf, chased with a Pinot Noir. I fulfilled my comfort food fix for the quarter. Delicious. The second visit a couple eves later, me and a colleague opted for burgers and the brussels sprout app. Nice size burgers, and the sprouts hit the spot. This spot reminded me of a more expensive standalone version of Lazy Dog or BJ's with more upscale cocktails, kind of like the vibe of overpriced restaurant-bar blends in the airport terminal before your flight. Flavors didn't hit it for me, food tasted quite bland. Cocktails were decent, thankfully, but pretty standard; nothing really stood out. Bartenders were polite, but you could tell they were worn out and tired from the busy night, not much energy. Fine if you want to just hang out at the bar and be left alone. It's okay if you're on a business trip and need to grab a bite, unwind a bit, and expense your meal -- but I didn't feel like the food was worth the price point otherwise, as I think it tries to be fancier than it actually is; but I appreciate that it's a small business in an area where living costs continue to rise rapidly. We have been coming here for years! And I realized that on our last visit when making a reservation that I'd never sung their praises! Selfishly, we've kept this place to ourselves because it's been our little refuge on busy nights when all we want is a great steak & a full satisfying meal! From apps, to sides, to entree to desserts! The restaurant is welcoming and unassuming and it's why we love it! It's our little local steakhouse with great cocktails and a great wine selection! You can never go wrong with their ribeye! And a nice glass of red! The service from hosts to bartender to our waiter are always so welcoming and accommodating. We came to Grill again this time to celebrate several once in a lifetime events. Love the inside layout where you can sit at the centralized bar or a booth or a combo bench seat/chair setup. The lights are dim for atmosphere and is very inviting. Outside parking to plentiful too. Our server was spot on. The food breakdown: Brussel sprouts - these were plentiful and is a delicious recipe. French onion soup - a disappointment, tasted like bullion, very little onion and was very salty. Lamb chops - cooked perfectly, large portion and went well with the polenta. Filet mignon tips with beef stroganoff- good with a healthy dose of sour cream, which was considered too much. St Louis ribs - Excellent beans and cornbread, the ribs had a mild smoke flavor and were finished on a flame grill making the outside tuff. Good flavor though. Crème brûlée - beautifully presented and tasted perfect. Chocolate chip cookie with salted Carmel à la mode - warm just cooked cookie and ice cream - a perfect finish. I came here with my family and the food was significantly below average. It was edible so that saved me from rating this one star but it wasn't great. My father ordered the lobster bisque and I tried a taste--it tasted like tomato soup with a hint of lobster. Definitely one of the most disappointing lobster bisques I've ever had. I split the short rib empanadas with my father and they were alright at best. Very average flavor. Nothing to write home about. I ordered the lamb chops and they were dry and flavorless. They lacked any discernible flavor whatsoever. I also had a molten chocolate lava cake and this was equally disappointing--it just didn't taste that chocolatey or flavorful. It was likely the least bad thing out of everything we'd ordered. Also slightly funny, this place advertises their huge selection of wines but the vast majority of them are only available via purchase of a bottle. The actual number of by the glass red wines is likely closer to 8-10. I tried several of them and was not a fan of any of them. There was one Cabernet Sauvignon that was decent enough for a glass but again flavor was okay. Overall I would never come here again and I recommend you, my dear review reader, don't start coming here--you'll be sorely disappointed. read more

My wife and I went on a Sunday and had the deviled eggs which we sent back because they were very salty. They were out of what we ordered for dinner and we left. We had a lovely early dinner here. They are located in a strip mall on Hamilton Avenue at Meridian Avenue. We went on a Saturday, and there was plenty of spaces in the parking lot. The complimentary bread was good; they provided a sour dough and a darker bread with butter. My husband and I shared the beet salad, which was delicious and included goat cheese and roasted hazelnuts. The salad cost $16, but when they split it for us, we each had a good portion. We got a side of asparagus with a parmesan topping, and it was very good. I ordered the butternut squash risotto, and really enjoyed it; it came with a handful of small tomatoes. My husband had the meatloaf and loved it; it came with roasted carrots and excellent mashed potatoes. The service was very good. We go here a few times a year, and our recent visit was really good. Service - We made reservations via OpenTable for a Saturday night and were seated right away in a booth. The waiter came by with water very quickly and also asked if we wanted to do our drink orders then. Service continued to be very good, food came quickly once we ordered. Drinks - I had the "Deconstructed Mai Tai" with my appetizers. It was very tasty but didn't seem too similar to a regular Mai Tai, other than being pineapple rum-based. I would recommend it. My son had the "Cali Squeeze" blood orange beer on draft which I tasted and liked a lot. They have a large beer menu in addition to the extensive cocktail menu. I had a glass of "Opolo" Zinfandel with my steak salad which was a very good red. Appetizers - We shared a Lobster Bisque and plate of short rib empanadas. Very delicious -- the bisque had bits of lobster and really good seasoning. The short rib empanadas came with a chimichurri sauce. I tried bites both with and without the sauce, both were good but maybe I slightly preferred without the sauce. Really good crust on the empanadas, highly recommend. Main Courses - I had the Asian Skirt Steak Salad which had the right amount of steak and a tasty vinaigrette on top of kale salad. It was a good choice but I wonder if I would like it better on top of romaine or other lettuce. My husband had the Trout special which had a really good butter sauce and veggies. My son had the Rib Eye Steak, a pretty large steak serving and delicious mashed potatoes and veggies. Dessert - We split the dessert special, Bananas Foster Bread Pudding which was great -- lots of the delicious brown sugar butter sauce with banana liquer. Would get it again. I'm writing to share feedback about an experience my family and I had at your restaurant last night on New Years Eve. For context, we chose Dry Creek Grille because it's in our neighborhood. We arrived as a party of five and checked-in with our reservation. We were initially seated in a well-lit area towards the front. There were several open tables, and our table had six chairs, so it was perfect. About five minutes later, after we were settled and ready to order, the host returned and said he had "miss seated us." He moved us to a huge table, far too large for us where, it felt cold, distance and isolated. My husband and I also both have vision problems and struggled to see the menu. We were sat toward the back of the restaurant in a much darker area near the restrooms. No clear explanation was given for the change. The move was a downgrade and made the experience uncomfortable. I wouldn't normally think this however, as the only African American woman, I couldn't help but feel singled out, particularly given the visibility of the initial seating compared to where we were relocated. My husband is still infuriated. As someone who has worked in hospitality, and in restaurants, I know that you NEVER move a party once they've been seated, unless it is requested by the party. I've also learned that implicit bias is very common. After our meal, the female manager/owner then asked if we wanted our pictures taken, as if that would make the experience better. Seriously. No thank you. We will stick to Los Altos Grille, a true upscale grille where the service and etiquette is unmatched. Avoid this place. read more

It was a fantastic meal! We were a big party, and where we sat felt like a fine dining experience but with a fair amount of background sound just from everyone in the area talking. Another area of the restaurant has a bar, bar seating with TV screens with sports. So fairly versatile, accommodating to families. Everyone enjoyed their food. Overall the service was good, especially for having such a large party. We did have an issue with the wrong meal being brought to our table. Gorgeous restaurant with a high end feel in the heart of Willow Glen. Beautiful fireplaces and inside is dark and beautiful with great vibes. The service was friendly and quick for a Saturday with no reservation. The hostesses were kind, one was in yoga pants and a juicy jacket which doesn't match the elegance of the restaurant. Our server was kind but our busser was over the top impressive. He was checking in on us so much and always on top of his stuff. We got the lavender mocktail and kith and kin wine - mocktail was good and so was the wine. The wine menu is extensive, but if you're planning on drinking make sure you have a partner bc the good wines go by the half bottle or bottle. We got the fried chicken wing appetizer and I loved this. Super crispy and tender chicken. The ribeye was good, but nothing impressive. I'd get something else next time. The spicy shrimp pasta was full of flavor, really impressive taste. They bring bread and truffle salt bread which is also delicious. Good price overall, for 2 entrees, 2 drinks and an appetizer our total before tip was 150. This was our first time at Dry Creek Grill, we had a gift certificate from a birthday gift and decided to Give it a try. It was a Friday night, it was busy but not super busy. We were seated right away. The restaurant was under some sort of remodeling in process, getting new lighting. The server was nice and attentive, gave great recommendations. We ordered for appetizers the Korean fried chicken wings, Ceasar Salad and the soup do the day. For our dinner the Meatloaf, mixed BBQ plate, Spicy prawn linguini, a side of grilled asparagus and a side of their Mac n cheese and finished with the chocolate lava cake for dessert. I was a little bit skeptical that a restaurant and what is basically a strip mall could actually be a nice dining experience. I came here for a birthday with my family and the first surprise was just walking in the restaurant. It's much nicer right inside the door than the outside hints. The restaurant is also very expensive. It just keeps going and going. Much larger than the outside suggests. I like the dark colors inside and the use of wood everywhere. It definitely has the ambience of a fine dining experience. The employees have clearly been trained well and are extremely friendly and kind. The food was also delicious. Thrill of the Grill Operating out of the old Moose Lodge #1811 (est 1965), the Dry Creek Grill has been serving up solid steakhouse fare without all the fussiness of a steakhouse since 2011. It's hard to believe that they've only been in operation for 13yrs as they feel like they've been a part of the neighborhood since forever, and that's partly because the owners have owned restaurants since the '80s, and currently also own the nearby Tomato Thyme. The Good: *$80 for $100 deal on gift cards thru Costco *Huge parking lot with plenty of parking *Reservations thru OpenTable *Service was friendly, albeit a little awkward at times, but he meant well. :) *Classy décor and nice, sexy dimly lit interior, which makes this a great ambiance for date night or special celebrations. *Nice selection of semi-local craft beers, but a few too many macrobrews for my liking. *Pork Chop was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. I could've used a little more of the mashed sweet potatoes, but I can never get enough of that stuff. *Fresh-baked cookie dessert was phenomenal and worth every calorie. I could've demolished a whole one by myself but was forced to share by the food gestapo. =Z The Meh: *The Last Word cocktail was way too sweet and not alcoholy enough. *Short Rib was tender and tasty but lacked a real depth of flavor that a slow cooked short rib normally exudes. We went for the day before Valentine's Day, which was a nice experience. I went for my birthday. Nice experience. However, I do feel I owe a review for my experience yesterday . I usually order the same thing when I go to the dry Creek Grill. Yesterday I decided to try something different the lamb chops when they came there was one small one and one big one. The small one was very tasty tender cooked right. The larger one was tough couldn't cut it couldn't chew it gave it to my husband to try. He couldn't cut it and he couldn't chew it. At the end of the meal when the waiter asked me how it was I told him and he said oh we'll make it right. Well, I don't know how they'll make it right because they didn't offer me another one. They didn't take a couple dollars off the bill and he was a very good server so nothing against the waiter. He was a good server, but I think he was the first failure because something probably should've been done something small and that doesn't have to be something big but I couldn't eat the second lamp chop and I left it over my plate and did not take it home When the bill came, I never asked for a restaurant to do anything. I didn't say anything. I just had my husband pay the bill and noted it in my mind. As we were leaving, the manager was at the front desk and she was very cordial and I mentioned my experience to her And although she apologized for the experience and was happy that I would probably return to have my traditional short ribs she also did not offer any way to make the experience better for me. So perhaps I eat out too much but when something doesn't go right, it's not my responsibility to ask for anything it is the restaurants responsibility to make it right in some manner. It doesn't have to cost them a lot. They could comp a glass of soda, but just any small gesture and that was not forthcoming. I will say everybody is pleasant there the service was good other than I left, not enjoying my meal and that should have been taken care of in some fashion. So I gave it two stars because I have had different experiences there in the past that were certainly more positive. And once again, I will say the service was good. Why have I never left a review for this place before?? I've been going here for over a decade! Anyhow, this is just the consummate date place. I really regret that they don't allow open seating in their bar anymore. But I know it's a tough gig, the restaurant biz! That said, it's the perfect date night place. The seating is comfortable and there is enough space between the tables so you can hold a private conversation. It's one of the few places in the Willow Glen/Campbell area that you'd call cozy, which is why it's perfect for a date. We had the most amazing dinner. I highly recommended sirloin stroganoff--it was the star of the evening. I could just mop it up the sauce with the bread alone. Also had the airplane chicken, and it was very good, although more light and healthy-ish. The baked cookie for dessert with caramel gelato was so good! It's a chocolate chip cookie and was baked with just enough chewiness and not too crispy. Could have used more gelato though ;-) Complementary bread, very grainy but good. We had the bottle of the Domaine Eden Pinot Noir wine, 2019 (it says Alexander Valley on the menu but it must be a misprint but I saw Santa Cruz Mountains, it was very good regardless). Wine snobs will be happy to know they have a wine cellar and a more extensive wine list. Definitely the place to impress your date! The service was exceptional. Awful experience. I made a 7:00 PM reservation for the Thursday before Valentine's Day, several days in advance because my husband and I were really looking forward to trying Dry Creek. We were celebrating an early Valentine's Day, we had ordered an Uber so we could enjoy a relaxing and special evening together. When we arrived, one of the hosts was very kind and welcoming. She complimented my dress and seated us where the other host directed her. The restaurant was not busy at all for 7 PM. We were placed at the very end of a long continuous wall banquette booth that can seat multiple parties very close together. At that time, we were the only guests sitting along that entire bench. We ordered drinks, and within minutes, the second host (who had not been friendly) seated another couple immediately next to us, no more than about 12 inches away despite the entire rest of the long booth being completely empty and able to seat apx 8-10 other parties. Because the restaurant was not busy, I approached the host who sat the couple and explained that she sat the couple too close as the entire booth is open, I also mentioned that we were on a special date night and would really appreciate a little more space. She smirked and lightly laughed, telling me those other tables were "closed," essentially dismissing my request. I found this unfair and unnecessary given how empty the restaurant was. I told her I didn't agree and asked to speak to a manager. Before I could finish my sentence, she rolled her eyes and walked away to get him. She returned with the head manager, Clanson an older gentleman about 68-75 years old. I explained that I had requested to move tables and felt dismissed by the host. While I was speaking, he looked me up and down with a disgust look and then walked away toward the tables without responding. I was genuinely confused and said, "Excuse me, did you catch what I said back there?" He aggressively responded, "Calm down." I was shocked and offended as I was not raising my voice. Being told to "calm down" when I was speaking at a normal tone felt incredibly dismissive and inappropriate. I also felt uncomfortable with the way he looked me up and down, especially since I was wearing a form fitting dress. It did not feel professional. At that point, I told him I felt uncomfortable. He offered to move our seats, but I noticed the unfriendly host openly gossiping about the situation with another employee. I pointed that out to the manager and mentioned I feel uncomfortable and thinks it's best we leave. Instead of sincerely apologizing for the behavior of his staff or his own comments, the manager recommended we try another nearby restaurant, Tomato Thyme. I found that shocking, rather than addressing the issue, he suggested we do leave and dine elsewhere. When I mentioned that I would be writing a review, he finally offered an apology, but it did not feel authentic. This was supposed to be a special early Valentine's celebration. Instead, it became one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences I've ever had. Customer service matters, especially when guests make reservations and invest time and money into a planned evening. For those in the area looking for warm, respectful service and a relaxing dinner experience, I would strongly recommend choosing another establishment. On a positive note, my husband and I ended up taking an Uber to Joey's at Valley Fair instead, where the service and food were outstanding. This was our first time visiting and what a memorable and amazing night! The restaurant is relaxing with turned down lights but each table is lit up so you can easily see your meal. All the food is delicious! We were greeted by the manager who was very kind and welcoming. Our server was Kristen and she was amazing!! She went above and beyond and was so lovely and fast. She even let us select a free dessert for my husband's birthday! Most certainly will be coming back! read more
