    Prime rib ravioli

We went to The Grandview to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. The staffs were friendly and welcoming upon arrival. We were seated at a table that was in the middle of the outdoor area but still were able to see the view (wish we we could sit on the outermost seats!). We came at sunset time and the view was absolutely stunning! Food wise, we got prime rib ravioli and fillet mignon. The ravioli was filled with generous portions of prime rib and short ribs. The fillings were super tender and creamy. The fillet mignon was slightly crispy on the outside yet super tender on the inside (we asked for rare). The portion was pretty big too. They also had a long list of wine and cocktail/mocktail selections. We ordered the special dessert of the day (creme brûlée). Initially they wrote "happy birthday" on the plate, but the waiter soon noticed it and quickly replaced it with "happy anniversary" for us (thank you!). Overall it was a great experience at The Grandview. Highly recommend it for celebrating special occasions.

Beautifully hidden restaurant right on the top of San Jose that provides a beautiful view of the city - even more so at night! It's definitely a place to go out for a lovely date night or even business-casual early dinner - we saw both but conformed to the former. We had expected service to be a bit more intimate, but after taking our orders, our service was touch and go after that... and we waited a while to be re-checked in and to order dessert after finishing our meal. So that was the only downer I had. Now, onto the food: The Guava Sour was amaaaaazing - I had it just a little bit spicy and it was perfection as my starter :) Everything on the menu sounded so good, and we had a wonderful time enjoying conversation, city lights, and hearing the live pianist. We ordered the deviled eggs, and poke mini tacos to start. While everything else sounded great, our server made the deviled eggs the star appetizer to try and I'm glad we did. It had such wonderful flavors that even my husband who normally doesn't like deviled eggs, enjoyed them! The bone-in ribeye was juicy, and the cielo mare y terra was also hearty. Got to have the best of both carbs and protein, am I right? Oh, and the smashed yukon potatoes were SO crispy. I loved it!

Overpriced, tiny portions, and mediocre food. Service was non-existent and had to flag staff down. The best part was the view...

Overall rating: 3.5* I'll start with what I like: both the salad and prime rib is excellent. I would highly recommend the 22 oz prime rib for sharing. It's tender and portion size is great. Seating is also great if you visit on a nice weather and sit outside for the city lights view. But, I was a bit disappointed by the chicken dish(pollo piccata). Chicken was dry and the crème brûlée was okay too. The top sugar caramelized layer is super thin and not as crispy as other places, felt like it's a weird ratio of just custard. Lastly, the parking situation is not ideal. Parking lot is small/full and even the street parking was packed by the time we came. We had to squish into parking next to the branches of bushes and half way onto the curb/gravels.

Went to The Grandview for their Valentine's Day 4 course menu and overall had a really nice experience. For the first course, my fiancée and I split the lobster bisque and the scallop arancini. Both were solid. The bisque was rich and flavorful, and the arancini was phenomenal nice crisp on the outside with good flavor inside the scallop was perfect. Second course, we tried both raviolis, the braised short rib and the lobster. The short rib was definitely our favorite. Super flavorful and just felt more balanced overall. The lobster ravioli was good, but the short rib one is the one I'd go back for. For the main, we both ordered the prime rib. It was decent, not bad at all, but it's not House of Prime Rib level. It wasn't the most tender cut we've ever had, but still enjoyable. Dessert wise, we tried both options, the lava cake and the key lime cheesecake. Both were good, but we both preferred the cheesecake. It had that perfect sweet and tart balance and didn't feel too heavy. Overall we enjoyed our meal at The Grandview. The ambiance is top notch and definitely gives you that special occasion vibe. The staff was on point all night. Solid Valentine's dinner.

Lovely location and staff were generally pleasant. Parking lot is a little narrow and slanted but easy. I was here for a team dinner so the menu was prix fixe. We had: - butternut squash soup in a shot glass: honestly the best thing I had here and it was the tiniest portion - some warm what tasted like olive baked bread with some vinaigrette/chimichurri type dip that was yummy After that everything went a little downhill when we got: - Mini poke tacos: really salty and small but good amount of fish, the waiter told us it's a handheld but when we picked it up there was a dollop of avocado squished on the bottom - Caesar salad: there was just as much parm and parm dressing as there was lettuce, and it was very salty - Short rib agnolotti: mostly just cream and beef, it needed some acidity and depth of flavor - filet mignon: also salty, and for some horrible reason they decided to infuse horseradish into the tiny piped serving of mashed potato. Which gave it a mildly plasticky taste. - cheesecake: there was nothing wrong with it but it definitely tasted like they got it premade from US Foods I also got 2 mocktails: Apple crush - it's great it just tastes like juice Something about a Paloma - also great because it tastes like juice The presentation and taste of the food was really disappointing. They mentioned something about farm to table and I can usually taste the difference, but maybe the farm wasn't doing well when I went. Definitely just come for some light hors d'oeuvres and views!

Went here with family, party of 4 the Saturday after Christmas. Only reason why there aren't less stars is that our waiter was outstanding as was the remainder of the staff. The restaurant was still "decorated" for Christmas...well more or less. The poinsettas were dead the decor was falling off of various pieces (see pic of the "Grand View") First advice be prepared to plan time for parking. The lot is small but there is parking in the area along the road. You enter to a cute vintage bar and live band. The front desk staff was great and polite and understood the parking challenge. Although we made reservations for inside we were asked if the patio was okay. I said as long as it wasn't cold and she remarked it was "very warm" which it was not warm. We had to keep our jackets on throughout dinner. The one upside we thought would be the "grand view" BUT nope just a view of plastic siding not even zipped together to keep the patio warm. Plastic isn't even clear so the view isn't a view whatsoever. (They should replace with roll up doors with clear glass so that the view is actually grand) Now for the food we ordered the arancini which was very delicious. And also ordered the Deviled Eggs "GV Style" and would say these were just okay. The egg is deep fried and the "tar tar" is in a creamy mix unless you eat as a single bite texture will mess with you. The best thing we ate by far was the Agnolotti (braised shirt rib raviolis) The prime rib was cooked as ordered, but due to having limited "sauce" maybe 1/4 cup and it being so cold outside my steak got cold quickly and ended up taking most of it home. The potato puree was bland and flavorless. Two people ordered Agnello Brasato (Lamb Shank) which was a big disappointment overall it was a stew more or less. Everything in broth, not ideal. The old fashioneds were good. Our martinis (Dirty Martini, Lemon Drop & Apricot Royale (apparently made with the farm across the streets fruit!) Were all warm. I had to ask for the lemon drop to have an extra shake so it didn't come warm. Shared the tiramisu and it was well made and served cold which was unique. Service was great. Ambiance overall was great. Couldn't see the view at all except for near a service area. The decorations on Christmas weekend were all falling down or were dead. Not sure I'd return food wasn't good enough to offset drive and disappointment of the "Grand View"

If you are looking for a spot that delivers on atmosphere and views, this is it. The atmosphere is definitely the highlight - It feels upscale and intimate, making it a gread choice for a milestone, birthday or a romantic date. If you can, try to book a table right before sunset because watching the city lights flicker on across the city while you eat is pretty amazing. The food is good. You can tell they prioritize quality, and many of the vegetables come directly from their own farm across the street. They also have an extensive wine list. Overall the menu is a bit pricey BUT its definitely a "splurge" destination so you have to expect fine-dining prices to match the fine-dining view. My date got the optional Roses for our table which was such a nice touch....quality roses but I peeked at the bill and saw they were expensive to add. (If my date is reading this: thank you, handsome.) Service was professional, though it can get busy on weekend nights, so reservations are a must.

I have had this place on my to go list for so long, and recently had the opportunity to finally try it out. We made reservations ahead of time and were immediately seated when we arrived. Parking is very limited, so I recommend arriving early in case you need to wait for a bit. We were immediately greeted by our server who was very friendly and helpful. We were told we would be getting a drink to try out, but never got it. We did get bread while we waited. We ordered their Caesar salad, poke mini tacos, and smashed Yukon potatoes. This ended up being perfect for two of us to share and everything was delicious. I especially loved the potatoes. This place is perfect for a special occasion, it is absolutely studying and so is the view. I definitely recommend.

    Underwhelming $200 tomahawk
    Diana M.

Overall, we were very disappointed. We came here to celebrate our anniversary and expected a much better experience, especially given the price point and reputation of the restaurant. We ordered the tomahawk steak, which was advertised as the best item on the menu. We specifically ordered it medium rare, as is typical for a steak of that quality. The waiter confirmed that the steak would be large enough for two people and came with three sides to share. For the $200 price point we felt this would be fair. However, the tomahawk we received was surprisingly small and not enough to feed the two of us, even after appetizers, which was very underwhelming. In our experience ordering tomahawk steaks at other restaurants of equal caliber they are typically more than sufficient for two people, if not even larger parties. To make matters worse, the steak was very clearly overcooked. It was nowhere near medium rare and had very little red center. When we brought this up to the waiter, he insisted that it was medium rare, but the steak we were served (and the photos we took shown below) clearly show otherwise. For a steak priced over $200, this was extremely disappointing and far below what we expected. Since this was our anniversary dinner, we were also surprised that there was little acknowledgment or effort made to help celebrate the occasion, which many restaurants typically do. Altogether, the experience felt underwhelming and not reflective of the premium dining experience we were expecting. Will not be dining here again.

I came here many years ago for a Valentine's dinner before the renovation and ate inside. It was great. I've been back a couple years ago for a birthday dinner with a group of ladies and enjoyed eating outside. I recently went for a romantic dinner and sat outside to enjoy the sunset. We opted for the dinner package and didn't regret it! Everything was delicious! I would've loved more of the cheesecake dessert at the end. Views were amazing as you see over the San Jose area. Service was stellar and attentive. The staff helps take photos too and they have a photo op arch structure. Be careful on the drive down at night because some youngsters like parking along the side of the road and drink. They don't always put their hazard blinker lights on and can be hard to see them. Give yourself enough time to make the windy drive up too.

Costata di Manzo con Salsa di Pepe Verde
    Taddaki H.

Our server was extremely friendly. I forgot his name, but I'll definitely remember his face because he gave great service throughout the night. The main reason this is a 3/5 instead of a 5/5 is because the only course I truly enjoyed from the 4-course set menu was the Costata di Manzo con Salsa di Pepe Verde. The beef was rich, tender, and full of flavor from the dry aging. You could really taste the quality in every bite. Perfectly cooked with a great sear on the outside while still juicy inside.

Key lime cheesecake for my wife's birthday.

The entire evening was fantastic. The staff greeted us warmly from entry to exit. Our waiter Kevin was amazing. He was gracious, helpful, entertaining and thorough. The food was very good, the view sublime. A great experience.

    Both

Currently offering any grass-fed/grass finished meat options?

Can you bring small children for dinner (toddlers)?

You could, yes. I would consider the area itself. It's fine dining and not many places for them to walk around or play. I have seen kids here but they've been older about 10+ and the younger ones were attending a wedding and had their own room.

Is this place open for weekend brunch?

We are not at the GrandView, but our sister restaurant, La Forêt, is open for Sunday Brunch 10:30-1:30.

Do you accept gift cards from La Foret?

We do not accept La Foret gift cards at The Grand View.

Can I go by myself and just sit at the bar?

Yes you can but if your drinking consider a designated driver or Uber/lift

Are dogs allowed in the patio?

    yes they are!

Do they have menu for kids, she's 7?

No not really! You end up paying $50+ for your 7 year old

Do they sell regular spaghetti or Alfredo plates?

I don't know the answer to your question but I know that the prices are ridiculously high. And the quality of food doesn't match the price.

Are they open for Christmas lunch??? I have party of 12. Anytime from 12-3pm is best.

Yes but you have to call them. They don't take reservations on Yelp

Hi, I made a dinner reservation for 8:30pm, which is a little later than I wanted but I really want to eat there. Am I allowed to order appetizers/drinks at the bar while we wait for our table?

Yes the Grand View is open for dinner and closed on Mondays

    Is this place dog friendly?

    No I don't think 🤔 so.

Do you have a corkage fee if we bring our own wine?

Hello Katrina, Yes we charge a 35.00 corkage fee for wine. Thank you

My partner and I specifically come here specifically for their Picanha steaks which are extremely high quality and affordable. They're great to cook using the reverse sear method or grill like they do at Brazilian steak houses. They taste fantastic with chimichurri or even just with flaky salt because of how buttery the steaks are on their own. The last time we were here, we got 10 steaks for around $150 and we seriously thought we'd be spending way more. Of course the cost will depend on what you, like the prime rib here is very expensive, but weigh out your options! I do think everything else here seems to be a great price for the quality compared to mass grocers. I'd highly recommend anyone to check out this shop!

It was so hard to pick one because everything on the menu sounds so good. Alas, I have a small appetite. The mushrooms were very tasty and a nice start to our meal. For entrees, we had the halibut and prime filet with a side of broccolini. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Drinks are on the pricey side- I had a Hero Old Fashioned and the Taylor Made, $20 each. They were nicely crafted, so worth the price. They brought out a Carmel Popcorn Sundae for my husband's birthday and even gave him a birthday card which I thought was a nice touch. Service was slow and steady. We had ample time to enjoy our food without feeling rushed, but never felt like our server forgot about us. We spent about 2 hours for dinner. Probably not a place to go if you're in a hurry. I'm eager to return and try some more of the starters. It's the kind of place I'd love to take out of town guests - high quality fine dining in a casual and relaxed environment.

Where do I even begin to start about brunch at Be.Steak.A. This is indeed a special dining…read moreexperience. My bestie and I came here for their all you can eat buffet brunch on Mother's Day. We started out with complimentary glasses of Prosecco and sparkling cider while we waited to be seated. There was a little delay in getting our table, but it wasn't really a problem because we were chatting and enjoying the drinks. Before we entered, they had a floral photo wall where we took a photo together to memorialize the experience. And when we sat at the table, they had placed a lovely Mother's Day card on the table signed by the staff. The decor at Be.Steak.A is modern and feels very upscale. I think the bathrooms say a lot about a restaurant's attention to detail, and the bathrooms at Be.Steak.A were elevated - essential oil infused salt scrub to wash your hands, bidets, etc. The brunch buffet is just as described - hot items and pastries in the kitchen (so cool), a caviar bar outside, a separate station for cold seafood, another station for fruit and charcuterie, and then assorted desserts on the bar. The food was excellent. We started with the caviar -- the options and accouterments were plentiful and delicious. The caviar bar was so fun and felt luxurious. This was one of the highlights of the whole experience for me. For the other seafood, we enjoyed oysters, shrimp, crab legs, and other little seafood dishes, which unfortunately weren't labeled, so we didn't always know what we were eating. My friend had some dietary restrictions she was concerned about, so that was a little frustrating for her. But my favorite bite of the entire day was one of those unmarked seafood dishes- I wish I could tell you what it was -I think it was possibly squid. But it was so fresh and flavorful. Yum! The hot food in the kitchen was a neat experience. They had skewers and prime rib and many other dishes to choose from. I kept coming back to the seafood skewers. We were a little bummed that the beef Wellington was just gone when we entered the kitchen. There was still about another hour and a half of brunch service left so that was a disappointment for us. They also had numerous pasties and this amazing bread pudding that I drizzled a Nutella sauce over and added some strawberries to. This was probably my third favorite bite of the day (after the little seafood dish and the caviar experience). I'd be remiss if I didn't give the truffled deviled eggs from the charcuterie area a shout out. These were so good we kept going back for more. The desserts were good but a number of them were a little dry, I have to say. Surprisingly, my favorite was a little passionfruit tart that had just the right amount of sweetness. I'm usually a chocolate kinda gal but there weren't that many chocolate options, I have to say. A few other things- our server was lovely and gave us a lay of the land to start. She made sure we had any drinks we wanted and plenty of extra silverware. While there just aren't as many touch points with a server at a buffet, the interactions we did have were very positive. And even though I was disappointed that they ran out of the Beef Wellington, I was so impressed with how they kept replenishing and refilling the other dishes right up to the end of the buffet. This was an incredible dining experience. I'd highly recommend this brunch buffet experience for special occasions. I'm looking forward to dining here for dinner in the not so distant future!

Sat at the bar again. Disclaimer is this is just my experience.... As we sat down we were greeted just fine. Ordered a couple cocktails. The wife received hers and about 5-8 mins later I asked for mine. Whether or not it was true the bartender said it needs time to set. Well you could have said it takes time while my wife was waiting to sip on hers(mediocre communication). We then proceeded to order the scallop appetizer. While the presentation was good. The scallops were rubbery and overcooked. A few mins later we had to ask to order some entrees. Key words "had to ask". I got the hot stone trio. She got the lobster risotto. We decided on indulging a little. While we were waiting I asked for a wine list... 5 minutes later I asked again different server finally got the list. No revisit. The food came. Still looking to order wine about 8-10 mins in a different bartender came in and asked, we ended up getting a bottle wine. The food: the hot stone trio, for $230, mediocre cuts of supposedly A5 Japanese wagyu. They were out of the Sanuki and said we'll substitute with an Oregon beef. Just not worth the money. The lobster was ok, the risotto was already cooled off, seemed like it was sitting. So for 2 of us with a $700 plus meal the service was not on par with other similar establishments. Combine that with food that was definitely not worth the $$$$, it is not a return for me. Including hosting business here. Not sure if they judged us cause we weren't all dressed up, due to just coming from the local movie theater or what, but service was not there, unfortunate.

At many restaurants, that would be a problem. At Henry's, it becomes a reason to test the rest of the grill. We ordered the Porterhouse and the Sirloin, both medium rare. The Porterhouse was solid: balanced seasoning, clean grill flavor, no unnecessary tricks. A lot of restaurants can do a good Porterhouse because the cut already has drama -- bone, fat, tenderness, presentation. But Sirloin is different. Sirloin exposes the kitchen. Especially that strip of fat running along the edge. If the grill work is careless, that fat becomes chewy, greasy, or wasted. Henry's handled it beautifully. The meat stayed true medium rare, while the fat edge was properly rendered, lightly charred, and full of beef aroma. That is real steakhouse skill. Medium rare lean meat plus properly rendered sirloin fat is not automatic. It takes timing, fire control, and experience. The baked potato was simple and correct. The salad was classic old-school steakhouse style. Dark beer still feels like the right companion here. Henry's is not trying to become trendy. It is not chasing presentation. People come here to eat steak, drink beer, and trust the kitchen. Prime Rib is still the ritual. But this visit proved something important: Henry's is not only a Prime Rib place. They know beef. - Dr. C Fire controlled. Fat rendered. Medium rare verified.

On my 4th attempt, I decided to have an early dinner which we made it in before the dinner rush. We ordered their some of their appetizer, a wood fire pizza, and 2 prime ribs. Everything kind of just came at once so be prepared to be rushed to eat things quickly if you want to eat it while its hot and fresh. I personally would have wished it were paced out a bit better so that our table could converse a bit more naturally and snack while at it. The food was all pretty good. We got the broccolini and it was a bit tender. If you have elderly folks at the table or folks with a bit more sensitive teeth, this may not be the right item on the menu. The pizza was pretty good but the bottom was a a bit charred. Overall, the atmosphere was more on the dark, moody, romantic vibes. I think it would have hit this if it weren't for it being a bit too noisy with the staff running around and music blasted.

Most of the food in the chafing dishes was cold, including the carving steak station. The made-to-order omelette station took quite a while and initially was only offered as a vegetarian option, though we were eventually able to add protein. Even then, it was just okay. The dessert and fruit assortment were also pretty average. On the positive side, the seafood assortment was excellent and the made-to-order waffles were definitely a highlight. Our server, Estefania, and the support staff were top-notch and provided excellent service throughout the experience. The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous and beautifully designed.

We were originally a larger party, but a few friends fell out and we ended up with the final four. Tho I'm sure we made up with it in ordering. The bigger table came in handy. The server was very understanding. I was pescatarian at the time, so did not take part in all the meat offerings. But I've been to other locations and their steaks are usually pretty good. Their seafood is for a steakhouse. The sea bass was moist and slippery. The lobster bisque was creamy and decadent. One thing that's always consistent at Mastro's is their cocktails. I always get the grey goose martini and it never disappoints. Parking here is awful. I don't ever remember Valley Fair being this bad. Plus, now that you have to pay for parking, you'd think it would get better. Anyways, basically come early to give yourself enough time to find a spot. Good for a special occasion dinner since it can get pricey. REVIEW #4042
