My husband and I celebrated our 2-year wedding anniversary & 11 years together at Mastro's last week, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. A huge part of what made the evening so special was our incredible server, Tiffany Chanel. From the moment she greeted us, Tiffany was so warm, kind, and genuinely welcoming. She was attentive without ever making us feel rushed, anticipated our needs without ever being intrusive, and made us feel like we were her top priority all evening. Her professionalism was matched by her friendly personality, and she truly went above and beyond to make our celebration memorable. It's rare to come across someone who cares so much about creating a great experience, and Tiffany absolutely does. We had a 6:30 PM reservation and were seated almost immediately. Our server, Cyrus, greeted us promptly, brought menus, and everything started off great. We placed our order around 6:45 PM, our salads arrived, and then... nothing.... We waited about an hour for our entrees. During that time, we watched multiple tables, including a large party that arrived after us, receive their food before we did. It became frustrating, especially since no one checked in to explain the delay or acknowledge the wait. We were simply ignored and overlooked. I had to call out for our waiter to ask about it. Our meals finally arrived around 7:50/8:00 PM. By then, we were simply hungry and ready to eat. I ordered the peppered steak, there was no sit of pepper on my steak and when I asked if the order was correct, the waiter replied it was. Let me tell you, it was not. Anyhow. The food itself was good, not what I ordered though still good, but the long wait overshadowed the experience. I chose not to complain while we were there to not dampen the mood. For a restaurant at this price point, I expect better communication and a smoother dining experience. Appetizers - they had a weird dry ice and light display for the shrimp cocktail. The shrimp were good but only four. I'm sorry but it's very overpriced for just four. Double that bad boy and spare the dry ice. The crab cakes were meh for over $50. Insane price. I would 86 this item. Scallops were the best dish I had. The sauce was very flavorful and cooked well. It came with cheese bread which was great. Maybe the scallop appetizer on its own would be worth picking up for lunch, skipping everything else. Sides - the potato was fine. Big. Probably the best side. The Brussels sprouts were undercooked and lacked flavor. The asparagus also was a little under and lacked flavor. Reminded me a little of hospital food, making sure to avoid the salt. Meat - I ordered the American waygu, I realized after plating they gave mine to my wife and hers, a 6 oz filet, to me. I wish I had noticed earlier. Mine had a weird blue cheese taste and I ended up asking the waitress to confirm what I suspected. She did, but then just let it hang out there. For some seconds. Finally she said she's fire the right one for me after giving me a full on frown. I'm sorry, but I didn't make the mistake. It was very stilted and weird the interaction. I'm sorry but we were paying $150 each for lunch. It should be easy to fix a problem. The replacement steak was better but not the quality my wife had. I almost think they fired another 6 oz filet. But at least it didn't taste of blue cheese. Dessert - they gave us two complimentary desserts for birthdays. The apple crumble sort of thing was very good. The chocolate cake was dense, gritty, heavy, and really not enjoyable to eat. So most of it was left. We ordered takeout from Mastro's on Saturday, and unfortunately, the experience was really disappointing. Ordering was much more difficult than it should have been--the website wasn't working, and when we called, we were left on hold for a long time. When we finally received our food, it was cold, which was especially frustrating given the prices. The double pork chop was also extremely small compared to what we've been served when dining at the restaurant. It honestly looked nothing like the portion we expected. I understand that takeout can be different from dining in, but for the prices Mastro's charges, I expect the food to be just as good and the portions to be consistent. We paid a premium price and unfortunately did not feel like we received a premium experience. Such a nice place but it's always something here. Last time the porterhouse steak came out with no flavor and my wife was offered table salt to remedy it. This time, we waited an hour for our steaks to come out after we had our salad. We had to ask what the status of our food was, not the waiter alerting himself that we've been sitting there for an hour, so our waiter said let me check on that. He came out ten minutes later with our food and no sorry, no mention of the wait, no nothing. It seemed that half the food was waiting cause the fish was dry and the steak was just a tad under cooked for medium rare. Either they brought my wife the wrong steak, as she ordered the peppered crusted strip, or the peppered crusted strip is not very peppered because it was a standard steak. Their seafood is for a steakhouse. The sea bass was moist and slippery. The lobster bisque was creamy and decadent. One thing that's always consistent at Mastro's is their cocktails. I always get the grey goose martini and it never disappoints. Parking here is awful. I don't ever remember Valley Fair being this bad. We had a lovely dinner here for my husband's birthday. Our server, Val, took excellent care of us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I had made reservations for dining on the second floor. It's really nice and classy up there and not as loud as the bar area downstairs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] When we were brought menus, my husband was surprised to see a birthday greeting with his name at the top of his menu. That was such a nice touch. We started off the night with some drinks and appetizers. My husband tried the Dalmore flight of whiskies and I had the Mastro margarita. We tried the sautéed scallops, French onion soup, and lobster bisque. The scallops were prepared perfectly. You get three large scallops in a savory sauce with tomatoes, garlic, and Parmesan cheese served with three long garlic toasts. My husband enjoyed his French onion soup. The lobster bisque was huge. Actually, both soups were quite large. Val topped my lobster bisque, table side, with cognac-infused cream and chives. It was creamy, rich, and delicious. I was surprised at the amount of lobster pieces in it. It was full of lobster. For our mains, my husband ordered the 23 oz dry-aged bone-in ribeye and I ordered the 14 oz bone-in filet mignon with bearnaise sauce on the side. We also ordered the 1-pound loaded baked potato and sautéed asparagus for our sides. Both our cuts of meat were prepared to a perfect medium-rare. My husband's ribeye was huge. He loved it. My bone-in filet mignon was so delicious and flavorful. It paired well with the bearnaise sauce. The asparagus was sautéed with garlic and butter. It was very flavorful and a good choice to have with the steak. The baked potato was a beast. It was so big that we could only get through half of it. The bacon they used was so smoky and crispy. It was loaded with butter, sour cream, cheddar cheese, bacon, and chives. It was perfect. At this point, we were so full. They wrapped up all our leftovers to take home. They brought my husband a birthday dessert. It was a butter cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with fresh fruit and a huge side plate of fresh whipped cream. I couldn't believe how big the plate was for the whipped cream. The dessert was sweet and rich and the whipped cream was sweetened just right and went perfectly with the dessert. Our experience here was excellent. Customer service was top notch. They really go above and beyond to make sure you are have the best experience. The bread basket had a decent variety of breads which was nice. My husband and I got the chef's cut ribeye chop to share and it was good portion for two. It came cooked perfectly and was already cut. We ordered a bunch of sides but the gnocchi and Mac and cheese were my favorite. The French fries were also pretty good. For dessert we had the chocolate cake and butter cake. Honestly thought the butter cake wasn't as good as I last remembered it to be. The chocolate cake didn't taste like your usual cake because it's flourless which I didn't realize until I went home. Very unique but wasn't for me. Overall, service was good but they did forget an order of seabass for someone at our table. They did comp our desserts to make it up which was nice of them. I love Mastro's! The food is incredible. Their bone-in ribeye is so good! Their crab legs and oysters taste fresh and delicious. The mashed potato side dish is the perfect compliment. And the butter cake dessert may make you faint from how good it is.  [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance makes you feel good even when you enter. The bar on the first floor with the piano/singer is elegant and fun.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]  The only reason I couldn't rate this 5 stars overall is because the service fell off just a bit towards the end. Delicious delicious delicious!! I think their rib-eye is one of the best I've had in the bay. Straight up melts in your mouth. The calamari portion was huge and has the perfect texture and crunch to it. The lobster mash potato is the perfect balance of rich and creamy and seafoody. The tuna cappacio I feel is okay. We were recommended the wagyu roll but didn't get that this time, will definitely try it next time! Went here for a Saturday dinner to celebrate my brother's birthday. It was a great experience! Mastro's is located in Valley Fair so while it may take some time to enter the mall itself, parking isn't that bad. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant itself is gorgeous with beautiful decor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Immediately felt like a good experience just by looking at it from the outside. The service is also excellent, as you're greeted and tended to immediately. Our server was George and he was awesome! He was kind and polite, and was very helpful with our orders. The food was absolutely delicious. You get complimentary bread which is an assortment of different flavors and textures. For our appetizer we got the calamari which were in generous sized pieces. Our main courses were the porter house and the Kansas cut, which they were able to slice ahead of time for us since we were sharing family style. We also had warm buttered plates. Our sides were the mashed potatoes and scalloped potatoes which were creamy and divine. We also got a chocolate cake for my brother with a heavy serving of whipped cream, all of which were sweet and yummy. Overall, a great place to go for a special event or even just a date. Our party of four visited on a Sunday evening with a reservation and were seated promptly on the second floor. The first floor appears to be more of a bar and lounge area, complete with a live piano player and singer, which created a wonderful ambiance. Our server that evening was excellent (unfortunately I didn't catch his name). He recommended sharing the tomahawk steak, porterhouse, and lobster tails, along with half portions of several sides -- French fries, grilled asparagus, mushrooms, and mac and cheese -- which worked perfectly for our group. We began with delicious cocktails and Caesar salads, and paired the steaks with a bottle of Cabernet to share. To finish the evening, we enjoyed the butter cake and chocolate cheesecake, both of which were outstanding. My friends had never been to Mastro's before, and they thoroughly enjoyed everything we ordered. Amazing service, generous portions, and great food! Came here on a Saturday for dinner to celebrate a Birthday and really enjoyed the experience! Our server was super friendly, offered great recommendations, and went out of his way to accommodate our schedule and make us feel special. In terms of service, one point of improvement would be for the hostess stand. Even though we had a reservation at an early hour and didn't see many people, it still took us awhile to be seated. The ambiance is what you would imagine a steak house to be. Though, the table setup did feel a little crowded. In terms of food, the bone marrow is a highlight and a must try! It is one of the best I've had in the Bay Area. They pair it with sides (bread and a salad?) which made the flavor really standout. The portion size is also very generous, which was a theme of our meal. The cocktails were also amazing, and they actually give you 3x the portion other places give. It felt like having 3 drinks for the price of one, haha. We all got steaks and they were delicious and MASSIVE. One disappointment was the Brussels sprouts - I didn't taste any seasoning and it basically just tasted boiled. Dessert made up for that though! They gave us a giant slice of free chocolate cake and even the desserts we ordered were huge. We couldn't finish everything, so we packed it to go and everything literally lasted us another 3 meals. One of our favorite steakhouses for special occasions. My family and I have been here a couple times now and we always prefer to dine upstairs as the downstairs lounge tends to be more loud and hectic - either way it's a great ambiance depending on what you're into. I always order the 6oz petite filet (medium rare) which is the perfect size for me. Steaks are cooked to perfection, melts in your mouth and has great flavor. I have also tried their lobster mashed potatoes (amazinggg), Mac and cheese, asparagus, warm butter cake, and mango sorbet. Everything is delicious but the stars of the show are the filet mignon, lobster mashed potatoes and warm butter cake. In my opinion, these are must-try dishes if you're planning to stop by. My first time at Mastro's: I loved the atmosphere, but didn't love the food...from my experience I would go again but only to the bar for drinks and an appetizer, but not a sit-down dinner... PROS 1) Great service! Our waitress was a gem. 2) Beautiful interior 3) good desserts and bread 4) delicious cocktails CONS 1) the music from the downstairs lounge was really loud 2) the temperature of the food was off: cold fish, overcooked lamb chops, and so on, perhaps the food isn't getting out quickly enough or the plates are too warm or cold? Most of the food was either room temperature or cold...and this was the hot dishes 4) my carpaccio and arugula salad that came with it were both so salty it was inedible (though I did eat most of it since I paid for it, was hungry, and didn't want to be a problem and send it back). My first experience at this Mastro's location at Valley Fair was nothing short of amazing. We had planned to go for my mom's birthday, and honestly, it kicked it out of the ballpark. What we were most thrown off by was the customized menu that was made specifically for my mom, and the ambience was just a good vibe overall. We had quite a bit of food at Mastro's -- as one would expect at a fancy restaurant like this. We got a pretty varied bread basket, with tons of appetizers, a crab feast, and speciality drinks (which, if you're trying to stay away from alcohol like I am -- they have speciality drinks for that occasion as well!). The food was cooked and seasoned in a fancy and formidable fashion, as well as the desserts. The 18oz lamb chop was just like what my preference was when I was up front with them -- medium rare. Made just perfectly the way I wanted it (and like most other people as well). Another thing was the whipped cream -- that threw me out of the ballpark. I wasn't expecting THAT much whip cream for a simple creme brulee recipe. Then again, I'm not complaining. The hospitality was honestly very top notch, very professional, and it definitely made us feel very at home and comfortable. Mastro's Steakhouse, a restaurant that I've had fond memories going to since my first taste of it at their location in Costa Mesa. Now living in the bay of course I had to come and check it out. We came in at a busy night with reservations and we were in luck. There was a pianist singing and performing in the first floor of the restaurant. The look inside Mastro's is an emphasis of their signature color of black and white to decorate and when we got seated, we were close to the window. The seats and table were well made topped off with a tablecloth, something typical that you'll see in a fine dining environment. Here's what we ordered: Sautéed Sea Scallops - 5 out of 5 The scallops were huge, while there were about 3 of them they were complimented with pizza flavored bread on the side. The sauce underneath seems to be a mix of butter and some form of seafood sauce. This dish was delicious to say the least! Mastro's House Salad - 4 out of 5 The salad portion is big and is mixed in with some cheese, lettuce, sliced eggs, fetta, shrimp, tomato with dressings well blended throughout. A great choice for the whole family but in terms of specialness, not so much. However, if you're like me and has to have greens this is a great choice. American Waygu Fillet (7 oz) - 5 out of 5 There's really nothing you can go wrong with Waygu meat in general right? This small but thick slice of fillet mignon is got a nice chew to it. I had it cooked medium rare and it hit the spot just right. Chilean Sea Bass - 5 out of 5 My wife loves it, so 5 out of 5 from me. Sides (mushrooms & corn) - 4 out of 5 The mushrooms were slightly overcooked but the cream corn tasted great. A great add-on for any meat at any time. Service - 4 out of 5 Our waitress was fine. She wasn't the most friendly and wasn't as attentive as I hoped she would be but she comped us for a cappuccino I wanted. The live music really was a nice surprise to our dinner. The singer was great, although she took breaks we couldn't get enough of her singing. If you are looking for fine dining and want consistency along with class, Mastro's would be a great choice to put in your list to go. We were able to easily make a reservation for two on OpenTable to celebrate our anniversary. I really appreciated that they called both before our visit and the day after to make sure everything went smoothly, added a thoughtful touch. We started with a basket of bread, which was only $5 and very reasonable compared to other steakhouses. The assortment was solid and a great way to begin the meal. For an appetizer, we wanted something unique and opted for the maple-glazed bacon steak. It was on the fattier side but packed with flavor. For our main, we shared the dry-aged bone-in ribeye along with creamed spinach and white cheddar mac and cheese. Our plates arrived piping hot, and even after they portioned everything out, the food stayed sizzling. I also enjoyed a cocktail that had the perfect balance of alcohol and mixers. There was live music by Melissa who sang great covers the entire night. The service was extremely attentive! A solid 4/5 stars for Mastro's. The food was delicious. We ordered the bone in ribeye, white cheddar mac and cheese, bread basket, cream spinach, iceberg wedge, and baked potato. The portion sizes were generous and definitely meant for sharing. The higlight was the steak. It was cooked to perfection. The salad was very soggy, so I wouldn't order it again and the mac and cheese had a weird rubbery texture. It wasn't creamy at all. It was just odd - but the flavor was good! The service was top notch and very good. The entire staff was attentive and incredibly nice. The ambience was a bit too loud for my liking, but that's just preference. The music was too loud which I think made other guest have to speak louder. I did find it weird that when they called to confirm our reservation, they heavily emphasized a strict dress code, however, upon arriving for dinner, it was the complete opposite. They had men in atheltic hats, t-shirts, and several guests in athletic wear. And this was for dinner service, so I expected people to be a little more dressed up. I'm not expecting a ball gown and suits, but if you're gonna call to remind me about the dress code- please enforce it. Overall, great food and great service. read more

A great dog-friendly place to celebrate birthdays! We made a reservation in advance for outdoor dining due to having our dog with us to celebrate a birthday. They had personalized menus for the birthday boy (which they rolled up and gave to us as memoir) which was such a nice and thoughtful touch. We could hear the live singing through the speakers that were outdoors. Although they gave some heat lamps on the top, their outdoor dining area is shaped like a wind tunnel and gets extremely windy and chilly. Had a great dinner at Mastro's Steakhouse. The filet was absolutely delicious -- super buttery and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The mac and cheese was rich and creamy, and the creamed corn was honestly my favorite side of the night. The truffle cauliflower was also really good, but definitely only if you're a big truffle person. The mashed potatoes were silky smooth and perfectly seasoned. The service was attentive, friendly, and made the whole experience feel elevated without being over the top. You have to get the butter cake for dessert. It was perfectly seasoned and cooked to a nice medium rare. It had a nice crust with a butter finish. Overall a well executed steak and tasted amazing. Came here for a networking event. Parking is a bit tricky. But food was awesome. We got a tailored menu with the theme of the event printed. We got a few seafood towers to share. The downstairs bar is amazing. They have live music and it's got a great vibe. The lighting is perfect. The staff is on point and the food is delicious. One of my favorite appetizers is the Hamachi with crispy onions, and they can make a solid ranch water. I've tried their espresso, martini and skinny margarita and I think they're too sweet for me, but if you like a sweeter drink, it's probably delicious. This was the first time I went to Mastro's Steakhouse. I had gone to other local steakhouses in the area and decided to give this a go. When you arrive, you're immediately greeted inside this gorgeous, luxurious lobby. I had reservations for this dinner and was seated promptly. The servers were super nice and smiling. As we sat a large assorted bread basket was brought to the table. The bread was so fresh and delicious, but did not want to get full on good bread. We had a shrimp cocktail platter with oysters and pork belly to start. The food was hot, delicious and flavourful. For the main, I had a filet, which was cooked perfectly and came on a súper hot plate, which kept the steak nice and warm. The side dish was lobster mashed potatoes, which were so rich and amazing! I've never had lobster mashed potatoes! The ambiance was very nice, with live music being played and a live singer. It was elegant, lively and entertaining. This is a perfect spot for a date, family dinner or just dinner! There is a gorgeous bar on the first level, which one could hang out and have drinks to hang out and chat. All the staff were super kind and attentive. I will definitely go back again and try more of the food. Price for the food is on par with a comparable steakhouse and worth every penny. Parking is available via parking structure nearby or valet out near front entrance. A must to visit if you're in south bay/Silicon Valley!! read more

First time trying Mastro's in the bay and it was an incredible dining experience. I went with my cousins and let's just say we got more than we could handle . (Each of us had a to-go bag). We got some steak, lamb, tuna, and 3 sides (lobster mash potatoes, mushroom, and cauliflower. The dry-aged steak was amazing, it was perfectly cooked, juicy, and bursting with flavor. Easily one of the most succulent steaks I've had in a long time. The only reason I gave it a 4/5 was due to some steaks came out more rare than ordered (asked for medium), but our server Veronica (special shoutout!!) handled it perfectly and fixed it right away. Her recs were all 10/10 and she was so attentive that it really made the experience even better. If you love steaks and just great service, I recommend you to go try Mastros's. Mastro's is my favorite steakhouse in the South Bay! I've been here multiple times and it's always been good. I enjoy the dry aged ribeye medium rare - it's perfectly cooked and seasoned. I also love all the sides and have never had a bad one. The service here is great as well. The waiters are super attentive and they serve the sides for everyone. They also will help pack you food to-go. There's live music in the evenings on the first and the restaurant is dimly lit. There's a large upstairs and some private rooms. read more

Mastro's Steakhouse is still my #1 favorite steakhouse. I've been also been to the SF location but San Jose's location takes the cake. Mastros is located at the Westfield Valley Fair mall. Depending on which day you go, can dictate how easy it is to find parking, as Santana Row is directly across the street. I love EVERYTHING about Mastros. When you enter, you're greeting and I love the low light setting, accents and designs within the interior and the staircase makes a great place to take photos. They do have two floors for seating and upstairs they're also have a more intimate and private room for special occasions. I've been to Mastros probably a total of 4 times and each time they've never done me wrong. I always order the steak or branzino with the lobster Mac and cheese and it's always a 5/5 stars for me. The bread is also incredibly good and addicting. Staff is nice and if you're celebrating a birthday or anniversary, let them know! They will print your name on a menu and roll it up for you to take home. They'll also write nice notes on your dessert plate for that special occasion. read more

#1. The experience: I want to start this review by saying that I am being more critical in this review as this establishment presents itself as a high class place to dine. And thus this review reflects that. Wifey and I came here for our 30th anniversary. Our reservation was for 5 pm. We arrived about 5 minutes early and were seated immediately. Our waitress came by and introduced herself to us and handed us both menus which said (happy 30th anniversary) at the top. "Such a nice touch" 5 stars so far. Our waitress asked if we wanted anything to drink and explained that they have both alcoholic and nonalcoholic cocktails, as well as an extensive wine list. We both said we needed some time and would like water with lemon to start. She said no problem and asked if we would like bread service at our table "we both said no" She said ok and said that she would come back and check back in with us. I must say that her timing throughout the whole night was beyond impressive and impeccable. I mean she would be no where in sight and as soon as our water glass was half full she would magically reappear and pour us more water! She also took her time to answer all our questions about portions etc. We were at Mastro's for about 2 hours and 20 minutes and never once felt rushed by our servers or the staff, they were engaging but not overbearing (on the contrary they made us feel relaxed and just made our experience that much better. :-) (Again 5 STARS) The NOT good: "mistakes or misleading" As I stated earlier our waitress asked us if we wanted bread, we both replied " in unison" NO. However after we had eaten our fried calamari and Caesar salad. A male server came to our table and dropped off bread and butter, said something and walked away. At the end of the night when we got our bill the bread was charged on the bill?!? I didn't say anything, though I should have however it was only an extra $5 charge. But still was this just a mistake by our waitress or something they do here on purpose? #2. At the end of our meal our waitress told us that we would be getting their signature warm butter cake for our anniversary and that we could not substitute anything else for it. "Wifey said that she wanted the Key Lime pie" so I told the waitress that I would love to have the warm butter cake and to add a key lime pie as well to our order for wifey. Again there must be some confusion because when I got the bill she charged us for both the warm butter cake and the key lime pie?!? Why would you say we that you can only have this one item for our anniversary then charge us for it?!? Again I didn't say anything as I would have still ordered them both but I left there feeling like there was some kind of hustle or bait and switch switch going on. Wifey and order: #1. Fried Calamari for an appetizer #2. Caesar salad split in 2, per our waitress recommendation. #3. We each ordered a 6 oz. Filet mignon. #4. The white cheddar lobster mac & cheese. #5. Mastro's signature warm butter cake and their Keylime pie. The Food: #1. The Fried calamari: freaking amazing! Lightly battered, perfectly cooked and not chewy at all. They put a drizzle of sauce over it and they give you a small bowl of their house made sweet-and-sour, which also was very amazing. 5 Stars!! #2. Caesar salad.: Again freaking amazing! The cheese was wonderful, it had a very light taste of anchovy and the croutons had a wonderful smokey flavor. (Hands-down the best Caesar salad I've ever had.) simply wonderful! 5 Stars. #3. Filet mignon: We both ordered them medium rare, they were cooked to perfection! They use their special secret blend of spices which was very tasty. At first I thought it was too salty but as I ate I noticed that the salt blended in with the steak and gave it the perfect bite of saltines as you continue to eat. The steak itself was also very tender, definitely a good cut of steak. " I'm not sure, but if I would have to guess I would say that it's Prime" 5 stars. #4. Lobster Mac and Cheese: Was quite delicious however the lobster was definitely chewy. My recommendation (and I am by no means a chef) is to put the lobster in at the last minute while cooking it to order so as to not overcook the lobster. 3 Stars #5. Mastros signature warm butter cake and their Key Lime pie: The warm butter cake was Buttery, perfect density, served with ice cream on top with strawberries and tangerines around the plate. The Key Lime pie was HUGE!! with super thick walls of graham crackers crust, the key lime filling was creamy & decadent to say the least with a perfect gentle flavor that makes a key lime pie so wonderful. 5 stars!! "Note with our desserts they gave us a huge "and I mean huge" bowl of their fluffy homemade whipped cream which was also out of this world good. 5 Stars. read more

It's absolutely wonderful - if you order well. Which we did. Right at the start they'll offer you a bread basket with a few varieties of bread, for a nominal fee. Which will strike you as petty for charging at all or generous for being affordably priced for the assortment. Let me save you the time: just order the focaccia which is the tastiest and lightest of the included items by far. Of course if you're a curious diner you'll just get the basket. Another power tip: their sides and appetizers are shown with full portions and full prices, but many (perhaps all?) are available as "small" half portions at nearly half price. We got the "half" bone marrow - and it was massive and perfect. Our server later told us the kitchen sometimes misses the "small" indication. A nice "whoops." We also got the crab gnocchi which was spectacular. I don't know what a dish like this is supposed to cost, but even at $45 it almost seemed like a value given the size and the amount of crab. We also got a "small" lobster mac and cheese which was again huge and delicious. It's a shame lobster is expensive, because every mac n cheese should be this good. But the main reason we were here was of course the steak. They offer "standard" domestic steaks (I think their bone-in ribeye is popular?) but also a few very different options for wagyu. Depending on your ability to do algebra and judge marbling, this is fortunate or unfortunate. Since I'm a wagyu fan, I asked to see the uncooked options before making a decision. They didn't have a display case or a cart / platter ready to go to show the options but they brought some out on a wood platter and showed the others via a photo. I'm glad I requested this, because it instantly revealed that (1) The American and Australian hybrid wagyu options were more like prime steaks and had nowhere near the marbling of the two Japanese wagyu options (2) both Japanese options were in the same ballpark on marbling - though one was much more expensive than the other. This made it easy to choose the second priciest (per oz) wagyu option. Curiously, their minimum portion is 4 oz, but experienced diners will know even 4 oz of meat this fatty is too much for one person in one sitting. Nobu's minimum is 2 oz and that portion size is just right if the steak is part of a complete dinner. We asked for a red wine to pair with the steak and the server brought out tastes of two options almost immediately. (This was awesome.) One of them was perfect, the Austin Hope cab or cab blend, and we ordered a glass. Oh! Almost forgot the cocktails. We ordered two early on (Fire&Mango and Monkey Business), one of which wasn't supposed to be too sweet. Both were in fact crazy sweet, which reminded us that maybe this place is targeting a younger demo than we thought. (Oh, and the multiple reminders ahead of the reservation about the dress code hammered home this possibility.) Having said that the sweetness of the Monkey Business grew on me and I was able to finish it. Given the large portions (and the excessive minimum wagyu steak order) we didn't come close to finishing the meal and didn't order their famous butter cake. But they comped us one anyway. It was tasty but honestly I couldn't say I loved it possibly because we were full. We absolutely got takeaway bags for the expensive leftovers - which lasted a full weekend. And the leftover wagyu made for what was without a doubt the best reheated brunch meat I've had in my life. This reminds me: they actually undercooked it a bit (given it was ordered medium rare) but this made reheating easy and safe. Not cheap but worth it for a special occasion. read more

SPECIAL OCCASIONS : Came here for my dad's birthday. This place is excellent for special occasions. They printed his name on the top of our menus as a special touch. They brought out a dessert with beautiful presentation. PARKING: I appreciated that they take reservations. They call on the day of to confirm, ask about what you are celebrating, and provide you with parking instructions as needed. Closest parking entrance is Bloomingdale's and then 5-10 min walk per the restaurant. Most convenient option is valet parking which is right next to the restaurant, which costs about $40. AMBIANCE: Mood lighting, two floors, elevators and stairs both available. There was a live piano player and singer when we dined here. Decor is tasteful and upscale. DIETARY CONSIDERATIONS: I appreciated that they had vegetarian options (as I'm the vegetarian in the family) and that they had mocktail options for my parents which they really enjoyed. SERVICE: Cyrus was very attentive and pleasant, we enjoyed his service. The manager stopped by our table and engaged in conversation with us twice, that was kind. We felt a bit rushed in the beginning of our meal as the entrees were brought out before we were done with our soups/salads. Then we felt like we were waiting so long for our dessert because we finished the coffee and tea we had ordered to pair with it. Despite the tempo of our meal being off, it was still a great meal. They served our sides to us individually and they boxed and bagged our leftovers for us. ENTREES: We enjoyed all 4 of the mocktails, bread service, french onion soup and chopped salads to start. They have half salad options which is a good size per person. For entrees we had the halibut, salmon, Japanese wagyu 8 oz, and vegetarian sushi roll. The sides we chose were the scalloped potatoes, creamed corn, and cauliflower. For desert we ordered the butter cake and received the chocolate cake complimentary.
