I am so glad I wasn't discouraged by the negative reviews--this place is great and I will definitely be back!! I was in need of a daytime blowout for a work event tonight and just went to this salon for the first time. I had a great experience from start to finish. We started right on time, I got a great wash, and my stylist had my thick, very wavy hair looking smooth, polished, and as close to the photo as it's ever going to get within an hour and five minutes. The front desk receptionist brought me coffee and they were playing great movies with closed captioning if you didn't want to read. Very, very disappointed. First, the address is wrong, listed on Summer Street but actually on Kingston. Um, how many people before me have also gone to the wrong address? Why haven't they corrected it or at least put a sign in the door of the wrong place? I went to the trouble of calling to make an appointment and gave a credit card to hold the time or be charged if I didn't show. But no one told me that the stylist apparently had a " 15 minute" window - which is what I was told when I asked how much longer I would have to wait for my 8 am appointment at 8:30. I finally got out of there at 9: 20 and was late to my meeting with an ok blow dry. Dry Bar ruined my morning - wrong address, unacceptable wait time with no apology or explanation (someone didn't show up is NOT sufficient especially on a Monday morning). I have had nothing but great experiences at dry bar back bay so decided to give their downtown location a shot, huge mistake. I sat down in the chair for my consult and told her exactly what I wanted- a classic look from their "look book". I had gotten this same blow out ten plus times before and it has looked the same regardless of what stylist did it. Smooth on the top, loose curls at the bottom with the round brush- no curling iron please. To start- the wash was a disaster- the whole front and back of my scalp were completely missed, but I let it go. When I got back to the chair for the blow out she neither asked nor put any heat protecting product in my hair. As a salon that does strictly blow dries every stylist should know how important that is (to say the least my hair is fried and I've been spending all week trying to reverse the damage). Before she started blow drying she never made an effort to part my hair on the correct side. I brought it to her attention but then she proceeded to brush it straight back. Safe to say I walked out with a mullet. When she finished drying she took a brush and brushed my hair straight back and brushed out all the curls!!!!!! She then reached for the curling iron. As I told her earlier I only wanted it curled with the brush and dryer- she then proceeded to take a spray water bottle and attempt to start over. At this point I had to get up and leave as I had already been sitting in the chair for an hour and a half. Needles to say I had to go home and re-wash and dry my hair myself. To top it off I got a call from the manager the next day to let me know that someone else's service had been charged to my card on file. What kind of place are they running here?! I went to Drybar for a blowout and it was such a great experience. They called me to confirm my appointment and took me in right away. The lady that did my hair and the receptionist were super nice. My hair is super coily and curly. They blow dried my long curly hair in less than 45 min. I got the cosmo blowout and it looked super natural! The blow dry lasted me all week. read more

Definitely the worst DryBar I've been to, and I have been in Boston, DC, and NYC. I arrived at 1:50 for a 2pm, was barely checked in at 1:54. At 2:30 I had still not been seen, nor had I been given the water I asked for. At 2:35 I asked how long, they told me 10-15 min. I requested to cancel my appointment. The woman who washes hair stared to yell at me and was extremely verbally combative, wish I knew her name. When she began to get into it, the coordinator became involved and began to apologize. Vanessa then took me in and did my hair. This is the third time I go to this location and have to wait over 15 min to get my hair done. Definitely not coming back- Blo in South End is just as good, and no wait, ever. read more

The last two time that I went to this one I got a bad quality on my blowout, specially yesterday I even asked where to exactly fix because I couldn't believe she thought it okay to leave it like that, even though she was super nice she was so bad at her job. I Really enjoyed my experience at DryBar Downtown Boston. I have gone to a different location in Boston a couple of years ago and didn't enjoy my experience. My stylist at this location was Fernanda and she was amazing! Very friendly, attentive, great conversation, understood exactly what I wanted and delivered it. I also have naturally curly hair so it's hard to find a hair stylist that takes the time to blow my hair out throughly and she did an amazing job. I'm not sure why this location can't seem to get its act together. I've been a handful of times, and every time they are running at least 45 minutes behind. To top it off, I never end up with the style I ask for. The first few times, I let it slide and figured I would give the salon another chance. But no more. Awful experience here! They were more than half an hour late for appointments and I was given two completely different explanations for that. The woman I got asked which look I wanted and I told her and said basically what I walked in with but fresh. Then I stupidly watched a movie they were playing and didn't look in the mirror for about 10 minutes, My bangs were sticking out like a straw broom and she had started to curl my hair which does not curl, I didn't ask to have curled and no curls are in the look (The Manhattan). I had a terrible time conveying what I wanted even though there wasn't a language barrier. I left with very odd looking hair and vowed to never go back (I had Jill). This is by far the worst dry bar I have ever been to. I had an appointment at 1:15pm and they were over 30 minutes late. Unfortunately this meant that I was late getting to a wedding! The receptionist was super rude and didn't offer me anything to drink. Once I finally had my appointment and was done, the receptionist was no where to be found and I had to wait over 10 minutes to check out. I've only gone because I had a gift card and it's just ok. I can honestly say I do a better job at home with my Sultra wand and I am by no means proficient with hair. You almost always wait, regardless of having an appointment. The last visit my stylist was very friendly, but their have been times where they were less than pleasant. In fact the the last time I witnessed a different stylist being so nasty to the receptionist and it was so uncomfortable to watch. The Newbury Street location is no different. They want DryBar to feel like this high end boutique experience and charge accordingly. But aside from the champagne, nothing about this feels upscale. They also tend to use a LOT of product. Now I am a fan of the triple sec spray and use the dry shampoo at home. But it just seems like they over do it to the point where your hair feels gross. And the blowout doesn't even last. I've had better blowouts from my asian salon back in NYC that cost $18 and last days. And feels way more luxurious because they wash your hair so nicely and its relaxing. This Dry Bar location was amazing. My boyfriend and I had just gotten pedicures across the street and wanted to continue the pampering. They took my boyfriend, no problem and didn't make him feel like it was weird that he wanted a hair wash and scalp massage. We were taken care of with a great hair wash, scalp massage, champagne service, and my beach waves came out beautifully! The stylist, Anna was perfect and I couldn't have asked for a better experience!! Tiffany, the receptionist, was very helpful. My friend and I had appointments at 7:10 and 7:15 on a Monday night. It was my friend's birthday and we had dinner reservations at 8:30pm. We arrived on time, and were told by the receptionist that they were short staffed today and running late. She was not apologetic and just stated it matter of factly. We explained that we needed to be done by 8:15. I have been to drybar before at different locations and the reservations have always been on time. She said "I can try to call someone from another location to come over but it's late". Shouldn't they have done this pro-actively since they knew that there were two appointments on the books? She then said I will just wash both of your hair and you will definitely be done by 8:15. She washes my friend's hair first and by the time she is ready to wash mine it is 7:45. I asked her if my hair will be done by 8:15 and said if it will not be, I just wont get it done. She again ensured that we would be done by 8:15. After she washes my hair, she tells me to sit back down in the waiting area, without a towel. Now I am soaked and it is 7:50. I still have yet to be seen, so I ask her if I can just use a hair dryer and just dry my own hair so I can leave on time. She said I was not allowed to touch the hair dryer. At 8:05 (almost a FULL hour from my original reservation) a stylist is ready to take me. I told her, I do not need any style I just need you to blowdry my hair fast so I can get out of here on time. She doesn't listen, and still tries to style my hair. Meanwhile the receptionist is too concerned with doing the cash out and trying to close up the shop to even care. At the very least, she could have filled up our champagne glasses or try something to make my friend have an enjoyable birthday experience. At 8:40, my hair is finally dry - completely straight, no style. I went in there with the intention of paying for a blowout to at least get my hair styled and curled. The receptionist charges us both full price, does not apologize, and does not even smile. This was by far the worst customer service experience I have encountered. This is not how you treat clients and this is definitely not how you rectify a situation after there has been a mistake. read more

The worst place in the world with the worst customer service. I had booked an appointment for 5:45pm for a blowout, I called 2 hours before to make sure my appointment was on time and good to go, no answer. Tried again, no answer. I get to the salon at 5:00, which was 45 Minutes early because I felt something was off, and thank god I got there early or I would've been screwed. I get there only to find out they won't even be able to take me at the time of my appointment, but they could only take me over 1 hour after my appointment. All she said was "we're running late, we're really behind" I asked why I was not notified of this, she said they weren't allowed to call customers. My event is at 7:30 pm and now I won't even be done with my hair by the time the event starts. I explained that to her and she said there's nothing she could do. TERRIBLE customer service. Luckily I was able to call Leeba salon next door (who was right about to close) and Ellie said he would be able to stay after business hours and take me. If I had come in any later or at my scheduled appointment time and found this out, (all other salons around were closing at 6pm) no one would have taken me and I would not have been able to get my hair done for my event because of a ridiculous mistake this salon could have avoided. I understand if there's a policy for not being allowed to call customers directly, but there is consequences your customers will suffer from your ridiculous policy. Even a notification or a text message would have been helpful in a situation like this. You seriously need to let your customers know, if the salon is behind, the customer is behind on their WHOLE day and the customer's day has just been made 10 times more difficult. I arrived to try this place out for the first time 5 minutes early and was never notified when I checked in they were running extremely late. After 25 minutes (which apparently isn't even that long) I was told they were going to rush wash 3 of us to try to get us moving faster, no apology. When I decided to leave and not wait because I had a meeting at work, I was told I would not be penalized with a late cancel fee. Obviously not getting charged is the least they could do. Ramone gave me the best blow out I've ever had. I have seen him twice in last two weeks. I've been to dry bar countless amount of times and there have been times I've left frustrated with my hair feeling dry and over the top with curls and and way too much product/artificial volume. I requested a Southern Comfort blow out, meaning LOTS of volume. I explained that the reason why I was coming to dry bar was because I wanted a voluminous blowout. I was given the exact opposite of what I asked for. My hair was flat and lifeless. Oh...and I made it very clear I hated small tight curls........and I was given small tight curls with NO volume. The first experience was in March they took me 45 minutes late; I figured it may have been a bad day and I would give it another shot. Appointment started 25 minutes late. Very difficult to delay someone 25 minutes in the morning during a work day. Probably the worst blow dry from an experience and look perspective. I had to ask her a few times to stop burning my scalp and at one point asked her if I could finish blow drying my own hair. I don't mind spending 40 plus for a good blow dry, though I do expect a timely appointment and a qualified stylist. I do not blame the stylist, so I tipped her, though the process for hiring is flawed, so the institution should re-evaluate standards for hiring. read more

This was literally the worst experience I have ever had. I showed up for my 7:30AM appointment to 10 people waiting from their 7AM appointments. I had to cancel and when I called back to see if they could squeeze me in later they could not figure out what availability they had. First it was one time then it was the next. They didn't have enough stylists on staff and although the team was very nice and it certainly wasn't their fault, it was unacceptable. I've been to this location twice. The first time was overall ok but the wait was long. The second time was terrible. The appointment started late and I had an extremely inexperienced stylist who did not have basic blow dry skills. It took him well over an hour and eventually the manager jumped in to help out, but the end product was still frizzy and looked terrible for my work website photo. This is a great location but unfortunately it's not timely or good service so I won't be returning. I've been to the dry bar in back bay many times and never had these issues there. read more

Hi All. Beyond disappointed with my experience here. I had been saving up and waiting for a special time to go to DryBar for the first time. I had an appointment this last Saturday before going out that evening for my birthday. I wanted to pamper and treat myself and feel special before my night out. First, I arrive early to the appointment to be courteous and when I arrived not one stylist said hello or even looked up to smile at me when I walked in the door. There was nobody at the front desk and someone eventually came out almost 5 minutes later. When she came out she didn't have a smile on her face and just asked what she could do for me. I checked in for my appointment and she asked if I wanted a beverage to which I said I wanted water. The whole entire time I was there I never received any water. By the time my appointment started my stylist was nice and said hello, but she had an AirPod headphone in so she was listening to her own music and just zoned me out. The wash was very nice and she did a great job with the head massage. After, I got into the chair and all of the other clients were finished and I was the last one in the salon so I started to feel rushed. My hair looked good for about 30 seconds and the second I walked outside the curls fell out and looked horrible. My hair typically has no problem holding curls. I had to rush back to my hotel room to re-curl my hair myself after spending $60 on a simple blowout. I was not only disappointed, but really felt less than special on my birthday. The staff was not friendly, I didn't receive water, and my hair turned out nothing like the advertised catalog photos. I wish I could go back in time to not spend the money because I had to re-curl myself. Expected so much more from dry bar given their reputation and great products. My first stylist did not know how to blow dry hair and used the round brush maybe 3 times total while she used her hand the rest of the time. I felt my hair crisping as she used the flat iron to do curls when I asked for very soft waves. I asked for my hair to be redone afterwards with another stylist and they were accommodating when I expressed I had a VERY important event the next day. I get home and see that the ends of my hair have been crisped and burned despite a blow dry only request for second time. I had to cut my own bangs with scissors in the bathroom to get rid of the burnt ends because of how bad they looked. I would have been better off using the dry bar products on my own at home instead of spending 2 hours hoping and praying my hair comes out good so I won't look like clown. Go Rosa! This place doesn't deserve such awful reviews. I had my doubts and have been hesitant, mainly b/c I already have a great stylist and the lack of options for chemically straighten hair. However, I was crunch for time and I had a promotional gift card for almost a year! Thus, I decided to take it out for a spin. I called ahead a discuss my concerns and I was happily matched with Rosa. (I don't know the names of the other girls, but I watch as others left the salon and they all appeared to be in great spirits) This place is clean and relaxing. You're provided with a beverage or two of choice. I chose an adult beverage- it was that kind of day. I really liked my blowout. I'm used to getting blowouts and the true test of a great blowout is if a flat-iron is needed. A good blowout does not require a flat-iron and Rosa knock it out of the park! The one thing I didn't like was the extra product usage at the end. TOO MANY products! It weighs the hair down and only lasted for that day. Though, I think this is a brand thing over a stylist preference....I feel like I tried the entire Drybar product line! No! Just #teamtoomuch. Overall, customer service was great, exceptional even. In and out within the hour is a win in my book. It was raining when I left and I was asked if I needed an umbrella. So touched! A brand that knows it's business- thank you! read more
