I went to the Irvine location a few weeks ago for a blowout to help make my hair easier for a hairstylist to style for a wedding I was in. I was sooo nervous going in as I've never had a blowout before and I was unsure if the stylist would know how to handle my hair. I ended up having the most amazing stylist names Fati who made me feel comfortable, asked my input and did an amazing job. I haven't been feeling the most confident and was leaving for a trip so I figured I would give drybar another shot. I scheduled for the night before I leave, aka last Tuesday night. Fati didn't work that day but I figured because she does such a good job other stylists would do the same. I knew something was wrong the minute the stylist tried ro brush my hair dry. I am half black and have hair between 3c and 3b. You can't brush out my hair dry. She then gave up and took me to get my hair washed. After the wash she began to blow dry. She yanked my head repeatedly and attempted to dry huge sections. At the point she began straightening, my roots were still wet and not even slightly straight. Instead of beginning at the bottom of my hair and working her way up, she straightened huge pieces without even touching the roots. My hair left a frizzy mess and I was so verwhelming embarrassed. As it was clear she had no idea what she was doing coupled with the fact that she was the only person in the salon I paid the full amount plus tip. It was obvious she was trying her best and did not have a clue what to do. Telling her anything wouldn't have helped she wouldn't have been able to fix anything. I saw myself in the mirror and was horrified. While walking through target I caught a glimpse of myself in a mirror and had to run to my car. I had a mental breakdown and cried all the way home. I was leaving the next day, had to work and also had to pack and instead I had to go home and spend an hour trying to fix my hair. I wasted $70 and still had to do my own hair. If you only have 1 stylist in a salon who can do black hair, please either let us know or stop advertising black women in your ads. Please have the decency to spare us the horror and embarrassment that comes from having someone do your hair and leave you an absolute mess. I am mortified. I am embarrassed and I'm sad. I had such a great first experience and now that's all been over shadowed by this traumatic experience. I was excited to see people that look like me on your Instagram but there is an obvious disconnect between the training of your stylists and what you advertise your abilities to be. Even more frustrating I emailed corporate only to receive a response that had nothing to do with what I had let them know. I will be disputing the transaction as no one has gotten back to me and I will not pay for a service as poor as this one. Update: manager of the Irvine location gave me a call. Said I could not receive my money back but she would make a note in my file to only book me with certain stylists. Then proceeded to say all stylists are trained with all types of texture. So if they're all trained the same why can I only be booked with certain stylists? Once again would love a call from someone who can explain the discrepancy behind this. read more

I moved to the oc about a year ago and left my old stylist who would blowout my hair perfectly. At first, I loved dry bar. I love the ease of making an appointment on the app and multiple locations in the area. However my last few blowouts have been increasingly worst. So bad that I thought the texture of my hair was changing because every time I leave dry bar my hair feels so frizzy and the curls have been falling within a day (usually they last a week). I rely on Drybar so it's hard to give up but I feel disappointed every time. Lately I've been asking for just flat iron but even that still comes out puffy. I visited my old hairdresser and my hair came out sleek and shiny so I know the texture of my hair hasn't changed. I feel like the the stylists are afraid to go up on the heat resulting in frizzy hair ! I'm so sad but I don't think the products do well with my hair. I will need to breakup with dry bar! read more

This was the first time I ever had a blowout from someone other than my hairstylist and I am really glad I gave it a try. Firstly, everyone is super nice. The space is really clean and nice. As far as the actual blowout, I will say that it wasn't worth the amount I paid (about $65 with tip). The hairstylist was really nice and bubbly. I picked the blowout style I wanted based on their menu. Ahead of getting started I also explained that my layers seemed shower that in their menu pictures so to let me know in advance if what I wanted could not be done. The stylist said it was fine and could make it work. Well, I was sitting at a chair that didn't have a mirror in front of it so I didn't quite see until towards the end that I was a big curly mess which wasn't anything like the picture. Based on the horror on my face the stylist could see I was less than thrilled; she remained positive and loosed up the curls which took up some more time. The blowout turned okay but I kind of wish I hadn't wasted the time or money. I think i'd give it another try. If I were to do it again I would 1) ask if there are any unscented Drybar products. Everything Drybar that was used on me had such a super strong floral fragrance and it really gave me a headache. And 2) I would probably see how they would do with just a regular/straight blowout. read more

Well, my appt was at 1 I arrived to spectrum on a sunday at 1:05, by the time I found parking I was there at 1:14!!! Apparently she knew it was me running late and she said sorry but you are late and you passed the grace period of 15 min!!!!!!! Really????What?? Kinda bummed about this experience not only was the lady hurting and pulling my hair at the wash bowl she didn't scrub under my head and when she dried my hair she directly put so much heat touching my hair when it was all finished I could see the strands of my hair bending different directions from burning my hair with the dryer I told her to please be gentle because I have bleach blonde hair and when I was all done my hair looked and felt like straw couldn't put my fingers through it. Very disappointed. My daughter went there today to have her hair done for prom. After being there for over an hour and a half (which is totally fine) her hair was flat by the time she got home, which is only a 15 minute drive. I went back with pictures and the only thing they would offer was to have my daughter go back in to fix it. I'm sorry but there is no time left for her to go back and fix it before everybody getting together for pictures. I've had my hair done here twice. Somehow I keep having worse experiences here than at the dry bar in Newport. The first time at least my hair was washed sufficiently. This time, despite the girl who did my hair being super sweet and kind, she did not wash my hair well and there is a ton of product build up left in my hair and on my scalp. It feels as though my hair wasn't washed at all! In fact, my hair was cleaner before I came here. It doesn't even smell freshly washed! She also barely scrubbed my head and didn't even wash underneath. I had to go home and immediately rewash my own hair, as I couldn't stand how itchy and gross I felt. Wow. I don't even know what to say. Let me start off with, what's wrong with this phone number? How does this this dry bar even expect to survive in such a competitive market by expecting someone to come in to make an appointment. Which is exactly what I did. Because I knew I wanted Samantha and I wanted to make sure she would be the one to do my hair when I finally went pink. I came in at 12 pm, spoke to the girls at the front desk to make an appointment for the same day but at 4:30. I made sure to let them know that I wanted Samantha. They assured me I would be with her. I come in, I kid you not, 16 minutes late to find that Samantha was working with another client. They said they had to give her someone else because I was more than 15 minutes late (by one minute). First of all, they took down my phone number. Are they not able to call to see if I was coming?? Second, no one told me this was the case. If I knew I would have probably jogged toward the end to make sure I would be a minute faster. Third, are you guys not able to call and let me know you were giving my hairstylist away to some last minute when I came in hours earlier??? Fourth, you say you JUST gave my hairstylist away but I looked over and she was more than halfway done drying the other girls hair. That doesn't happen in one minute. Meaning, you didn't take me seriously when I said I was coming in at 4:30. This was such a disappointing day and such a surprise especially since my first time was amazing. I had an appointment to get my hair done with my mom for a wedding I had for the next day. When I came in, my mom got seated first and I had to wait because they were running a bit behind. That's fine, but when they finally seated me they didn't save a spot for me next to my mom so I got my hair done alone while some stranger was next to my mom. They did not offer us complimentary drinks like they stated on their website. They rushed to curl both my moms and my hair. It was not the relaxing experience it was supposed to be. Three hours later, and the curls completely fell for both of us. It was a complete waste of money. When I contacted corporate they said they could not compensate us. I had never been here before but thought I'd give it a try. I called the day before and made an appt for the next day for a 9:15 am dry style. I was going to a wedding and had a make up scheduled for 10:15. I sat there waiting for 30 minutes and then I was told someone is coming in early just so you can be seen. Like what?! What happened to my appointment? A girl soon came in. I sat in the chair 50 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. So I only had time for her to quickly curl my hair. No time for the one side up braid style I came in for. I could've curled my own hair at home. I was late to my make up appt and that was rushed as well. It was my first time trying Drybar & I loved it BUT my stylist who's name was Sara was rude at one point and came off very unprofessional to me. As a first time goer, I unfortunately left with a bad taste in my mouth. My hair came out beautiful, but as my hair stylist was blow drying my hair she was making conversation but I couldn't hear her because of the loud blow dryer. After about 3 times of not being able to hear, she then said "never mind" with a nasty attitude. It caught me off guard because I did not expect her to say something like that. After she finished blow drying, I was still kind and said "sorry I couldn't hear you with the blow dryer, what was it that you asked?" After she told me what she had said, she then continued with "I just didn't feel like repeating myself for like the 6th time" again with a rude attitude. It's unfortunate that some girls with such talent can give off mean girl energy to first time customers. I understand she may have been annoyed to repeat herself, but as a service provider that is not the way to speak to customers, especially when they're not your regulars. I loved how my hair came out and I would try Drybar again, but most likely with a different stylist or a different location. They were on time , followed Covid guidelines and even more, ( Took my temperature first thing and also I was asked to wash my hands first ) and my hair turned out great !! I used to go to drybar in Newport all the time in high school for special events and dinners but the last time I was there my hair looked absolutely awful. I thought I would try out the Irvine location and see if I had any luck getting a quality girl like I used to get 4 years back. Again my hair looked bad and honestly I could have done a better job myself. I paid and tipped 20% because the girl was sweet and I believe she did her best but it didn't live up to my expectations when I'm paying 60 for a blowout. I think drybar as a company is not hiring the quality hair dressers they used to have a few years back and it's really starting to show in the results and in their customers satisfaction. The service is wonderful, I've only been treated sweetly and attentively the two time I've been there. However, I received the worst blow out I've ever had from this location. I specifically asked my stylist (I think her name was Julie?) to make sure both sides were symmetrical, as the time I went there before the stylist made both sides quite different, and asked for "beachy waves" pointed to the Cosmo-Tai style in their booklet. What I got was nothing close to this. She used the clamp on the curler, making the curls very ring like and not at all beachy, and both sides could not have been more opposite from each other. I was extremely dissatisfied with my styling and rushed home to shower and redo it myself before I left to an event that evening. I have been to the Drybar irvine few times because it's very close to my house. Two times I got a great stylist who did a great job. Others, not so good, but ok. Tonight was the first time I was there on a Friday end of the day, and the girl did a sloppy job. She was young, inexperienced and clearly wanted to get out. She didn't wash the bottom of my hair, she finished my blow in less than 30 minutes , and I have a very long, thick hair. Even when I didn't get a great job before, no one could ever finish my hair in 30 minutes. My suggestion is: ask for an experienced stylist. I've left a tip because I'm considerate , but honestly didn't feel like she deserved anything extra. read more

Drybar has become so big and well known that they don't care about their customers the way they used to. The front desk at this location is seriously the worst customer service I've ever had. Every single time I have an issue. Either the front desk receptionist pulls up the wrong customer profile OR gets my time and dates wrong for appointments. I always have to pull up my dry bar app and show her "yes I do have an appt at this time and date" and she says "oh...ok." She cant seem to keep track of the appointments or which customer is standing in front of her. And I have seen her be blatantly rude to other customers as well who have also said they want to cancel their memberships. She ruins the experience from the beginning to end because reception is who checks you in and checks you out. I will be cancelling my membership ASAP. read more

I LOVE Drybar. I have very thick and curly hair, and every hair salon prior to drybar always made a fuss about working on my hair, and i would always leave feeling bad about myself if my appointment wasn't cancelled last minute. My first time at Drybar last night, and immediately I was welcomed and asked for any beverages. My stylist grabbed me and introduced herself (i forgot her name :( but she was awesome). She asked what style i wanted, and if i had any special request, AND she didn't complain at all about my texture. She was sorry that I felt traumatized and ashamed from prior experiences, and she quickly shifted my outlook on hair salons. She took the time to work on my hair, explain the products, and even converse with me. She was so lovely, and I can't wait to come back. My hair is soft and bouncy and frizz free, and it smells AMAZING. I was sold on a few hair products as well. Please give this place a try! read more

Worst Drybsr EVER. I was already at the Spectrum over an hour before my appointment, so I stopped by to see if they could get me I in a little early. The guy behind the counter said they could not. If I wanted to cancel my appointment I would be charged. So, I waited until 8:45 PM and went back. He told me to have a seat and I waited without any greeting or offer for Water, tea, wine... nobody said anything like sorry we're running behind, nothing. I have been a barfly member for years and I am very familiar with the protocol. But the spectrum location does not meet up to their usual standards. At 9:20 PM, I finally got up (after being ignored the entire time) and went back to the counter. I told him I was leaving, and please don't charge me. He replied "I'll cancel your appointment." Funny that if customers are late, They lose their appointment and I charged without exception. But can we charge when they are late? Total Fail. read more

People at the front desk need some training. They Canceled my appointment at the last minute and didn't even bother to call me this I s unacceptable!! If I had cancelled I would have been charged. Numerous times I have had appointments that I have had to wait 15+ minutes, I never let it bother me until the other day when front desk waited until I drove to Irvine and arrived on time and was then told they cancelled my appointment and then she pretended she tried to call and read back my cell phone number and said it was one digit off, but I have never had issues with other Drybar's getting a hold of me. Today when I went into make an appointment at another location someone has cancelled my membership and deleted credit card information. Is this do to the fact that I sent an email to Corporate??? Or is Corporate the Irvine location and the read my email and decided to just cancel my membership instead of making things right. I have been going to Drybar since 2015. I started going to the one in Santa Monica, I feel like I have been a great customer, and tipped well. I just wish Drybar had some loyalty. Things have gone down hill since I first started coming.
