After calling and having basically every large and small company come in and give me quotes for a new furnace, AC and duct cleaning. D's beat everyone's price by over $1000. So my thought was well you get what you pay for and I couldn't be more wrong. They where extremely nice and had everything done in a day and two months later everything has turned out great. Professional without being condescending. The service tech (turned out to be the owner) sounded a bit odd on the phone, but in person was much better - so don't let that throw you. Definitely a small outfit, but growing. Was a little late to the appointment, but called to update me. Great and honest service. My biggest fear with contrators is it can be rough if they hide anything. I cant say enough about D's. They were honest in the whole process as I had both my furnace and AC replaced. Other contractors gave me confusing qoutes and did not seem to know HVAC. It's sad that people will get over on women. My furnace went out last night. So i Called D's to help me fix the situation. He text me early today at 7am and said he'll be here at 2p. When he got here, he said it was the induce motor that went out. Told me he had to go get the part and he'll be back in about 1hr. He came back in 20 mins, with the part. I question him about how he charged was it by hour, how much was the part, how much was his labor, and why was he charging me $400.00. Then I said the research show that the part was $119.00 to $150.00 on Amazon and other site. He said if I wanted someone else to do it. He'll leave. So I taught to myself that maybe he wasn't getting over on me. So I let him do the job because I have a 4 year daughter at home with me that's cold. It took him 20 mins to do the work.I felt bad afterwards my stomach was hurting because I knew then he got over. So when my better half and my dad came home I started telling them the story and calling around to other people. He should have never charge me that $400.00. The lowest price I got with part and labor was $215.00. It disgust me. I'm already a struggling mom and I trying to stay a float and he call himself slick. Yeah he got me this time but I would not recommended him to no one. It's been a wrap. And yes you fooled me once but not twice. I called one company in Lombard and they told me that the part was $127.00 and they charge by the hour which would take no more than an hour or less. Hour charge was $90.00 an hour. I'm always concerned from past experiences with other service providers that they will send some kid who doesn't really know what they are doing. What I know now about D's is that it will always be either Daryl or his son Cornelius that will show up to do the job, so every review on yelp is for one of them. Cornelius came out to clean the ducts, furnace and dryer vent in our 115 year old home. It was very dirty work, and he explained everything as he went along, and cleaned up thoroughly. He was kind enough to say that it wasn't the worst he had ever seen! I can already tell the difference in the air quality, and the amount of air coming through the vents. My airconditioner had stopped working so I searched on yelp and called D. This was on a Sunday afternoon when they are supposed to be closed but he was actually working and agreed to come by the same day. And he did an hour or so later. I am renting and have no idea where the condenser unit was but we talked to our on site security person and were able to get to the roof. D genuinely seemed to want to help coz it was hot that day. So we went to the roof and after checking said the capacitor was busted and quoted $125 for a new one He didnt have one so we agreed to get this fixed the next day. He did charge me $99 for coming out and for service. So next day he come replaced the new capacitor and realized that the switch (contactor switch or start relay or something) was also broken. So he went back to get a new one. Put in the new one and realized that the real issue was the compressor which had to be replaced. This is the most expensive part of the AC. So he recommended that we go ahead and just buy a new R-22 1.5 ton condensing unit instead of replacing the compressor. He is a lennox dealer so he said he would get it for $2100( Including instillation.). ALso quoted a newer alternative R-410A AC system for $3600. His quotes seemed really high. So I got another quote and just for comparison the other guy quoted a new capacitor for $60 vs 125 a new R22 AC unit for 1400 vs 2100 and a new R410A for 2300 vs 3600. So in summary his prices are way too high and (in my opinion) he took way too long to diagnose the issue. I recommend: - ask repairmen if they will charge anything TO diagnose the issue. (I couldve saved $99) - get quotes from atleast 2 different ones. have them just take a look and give a quote. - ask your building to recommend someone. The ones that regularly service yours will be the most efficient. read more

Mitch saved us tons of money by fixing it instead with some much needed new parts. Recently our HVAC unit in our penthouse went out. We hired a company to come in and they replaced the motor but they told us the unit would not last the summer and it didn't. We called in 3 other bids with the last being D and son. Although we felt that the other bids were from good companies and would do a good job, we went with D and son because they were offering Lennox as the HVAC system as well as a good price and we were impressed in our interview with him by his passion and pride that he took in his work. Unlike the other companies, his son and him were the only team of workers and we found his story compelling and decided to hire them. The work was to take one day for installment but went to 2 days because the unit was large and there was a delay getting it into place because of its size. Also, it was delayed because Darryl was a perfectionist in putting in the unit. He was polite and professional and was as helpful as possible. Both him and his son did a great job in installation and we would highly recommend them. However, one thing people should realize. He handles his own calls and scheduling and frequently is busy with other clients when you contact him. So a little patience may be necessary. My original install date was set for the following Monday, but I asked the owner if he had any sooner vacancies to please alert me, so that my family would not have to go through such a hot and humid weekend. It just so happened that I was able to work my way into a last minute appointment he had available and it worked out perfectly, with the exception of the pouring rain at the start of the appointment. During the first heat wave of the summer, one of my AC units went down. After having 2 other HVAC services come out to do an inspection on 3 units, and repair the broken one, I called Darryl at D's. The first 2 couldn't diagnose the issue with the broken unit and basically left the job undone. Darryl said he could be to my building at six pm after what I'm sure was a very long day, he even called me back and said he could show up an hour earlier! Darryl proceeded to inspect the 3 working units and corrected the half-baked mistakes the other contractors made. The broken unit had a complex problem and Darryl said he needed another piece of equipment, that he didn't have in the truck, to complete the job. He said he could come back the next day, Saturday, and finish the job. When he arrived Saturday he said he had slept on it and figured out what the problem was. There had been a mistake made, when the unit was installed by another contractor, and by working backwards, he corrected the problem. After coming out at odd hours for 2 days and fixing an obscure issue, Darryl gave me a very fair price. Darryl saw the job through, was reliable, easy to work with, a good communicator and ultimately reasonable. This was certainly a situation I could see many other contractors might have taken the opportunity to gouge. He saved the day and my tenants stayed comfortable all summer.
