Worst experience we've had at a restaurant. We have been to the Duck Inn several times with great service and great food. Have no idea what the major malfunction was tonight but here we go. Had 6:30 reservation did not get seated till after 7, no biggy. Ordered drinks and after the drinks were served ordered our meals. Meals came to the table over an hour after we ordered and after a considerable time after the salads and soup. Prime ribs were barely warm and the steak was rare when ordered it as medium and also barely warm. The other two meals were good. When we complained the owner came over no apology just asked"what do you want me to do, rewarm the food or comp the food".We decided the comp and he took the cold meals and comped the cold meals.Never apologized, no explanation, no sorry for your inconvenience here is a desert or drink, NOTHING. Again never had a problem there till tonight. Will definitely have second thoughts about eating here again. read more

Sadly, we walked into the Duck Inn with very high hopes and expectations due to the glowing reviews and the fact that we LOVE a supper club, and left very underwhelmed. 1) We were seated 20 minutes past our scheduled reservation time. Usually, this doesn't bother me, but we had a larger party with 2 infants. We made a reservation at the time we did for a reason. 2) I've never heard of a supper club charging for a relish tray. Isn't this a part of what makes a supper club, a supper club? 3) Our server was pretty rude. My dad asked her a question, which she answered honestly. He forgot her answer, so he asked again. Her second response was "WELL, I ALREADY TOLD YOU..." This continued through he evening. It was off-putting. 4) Dad ordered Wiener schnitzel. I don't know what he was served, but it certainly in no way, shape, or form, resembled Wiener schnitzel, and he said it was all fat and gristle, and the worst thing he's ever eaten. It was a large, thick cut of something, not a pounded, pan fried golden delicious thing it was supposed to be. 5) Mom ordered the Friday night fish fry. It came cold. To me, that indicates it had been sitting, not freshly fried, for awhile. Hubby and I each ordered a steak, they were fine, it's hard to screw them up. I've been driving past this place for years. The shining and blinking marquee at night has been calling my name. I finally stopped in for dinner with the family on a recent Saturday night. Note: Be sure to make reservations in advance. The inside of this place was still decorated with Christmas lights in mid January, which we loved. It's warm, welcoming, and feels like home. I ordered a traditional Wisconsin style old fashioned from the bar that was perfectly made and a delight to drink. Our server was more like a mom than a waitress. We made sure to give her few extra smiles and thank you's to her for the service. Service is a little slower, but we went in with an expectation that it would be a long dinner. Don't rush it! The relish tray is a bargain at $1.25! The veggies were crisp and the buttermilk dressing full of flavor. Be sure to get it. I'm not a fan of large serving sizes, and wanted to make it to dessert. Fortunately, there are "lighter size" options on the back of the menu. Bonus! Our group ordered primarily filet mignon and glazed duck. The filets were perfectly cooked, juicy and delicious. The glazed duck was a good treat, something that you can't get everywhere. The desserts are presented on a tray after dinner. We ordered the crepe brûlée and cheesecake. They were a great ending to a wonderful experience. You can't go wrong with those. I wish we lived closer...I'd be going here more often. Our waiter was great and even brought out a basket full of gluten free crackers and breadsticks when he found out I was gluten free!! We will be back again! This is THE PLACE you want to go for dinner on a Friday night if you find yourself in the area. It is located out in the middle of nowhere such that only the locals (and savvy Yelpers) know about it. They've been doing a Friday night fish fry for something like 40 years. Really good food at a really absurd price point. Seriously, AYCE for about $12. Unreal. First up was their cheese & crackers. A scoop each of two different cheese concoctions. The herb version is made in-house and better in my opinion. Note: this is something they don't habitually serve on Fridays but all you have to do is ask. Next up was assortment of condiments and sides. The waitress brought house-made tartar sauce which was quite good and slightly tangy. Coleslaw which was acceptable but nothing spectacular. Apple sauce which was very good and sour cream in the event you want some on your potatoes. Up next is the dinner platter... The fish comes two ways - broiled or fried. Can you try a piece of each? Absolutely. Both preparations were just about perfect with the breaded offering edging out the low-fat version as is prone to happen when there's a deep fryer involved. The potato options are fries or potato pancakes. Can you try a little of both? Absolutely. The fries were just fries but the potato pancakes were delicious. A little bigger than a silver dollar and about 3/8" thick. Unlike any potato pancakes I've ever been served but really good. Slightly salty, slightly crunchy and not at all greasy. I tried them with maple syrup (waitress' suggestion), sour cream (bus girl's suggestion), apple sauce (duh) and the aforementioned cheddar cheese spread. My favorite was the cheese. They will bring you as much of everything as you care to eat. Personally, I was smoked after the first plate so I asked for the check and got on with my weekend. So glad I found this place! I'm sure I will become their least regular of their regulars as I will only have the opportunity to get in there once a year. I've been dining at the Duck Inn for over 30 years and have never been disappointed. Located at a midpoint between Delavan, Elkhorn, Janesville and Whitewater it is a midpoint for many residents and visitors alike. The food is classic Midwestern fare and offers something for everyone, but meat is the order for the day. The complementary heaping relish tray and cheese, cracker and bread basket will tide you over before the meal arrives. The knotty pine dining room and roaring fireplace will take off the chill of winter while you sip your overflowing cocktail and peruse the nights specials. Friday's are a madhouse, but what restaurant in Wisconsin isn't on a Friday night. The Friday fish fry is a crowd pleaser, but I usually opt for a nice beef or walleye fillet. A little more expensive than other places in the area, but a value for the quality and amount of food served. My sister and I wanted to go to a Wisconsin Supper club so I checked a few based on their menus , reviews and location. We had reservations for 5:30 for 3. We ended up getting there at 4:30 and for only 2. Since they were just opening we were seated immediately. Our waiter, Nick was great. He was very attentive and polite. We didn't have any issues with our food taking a long time and it was all good. We started with an appetizer and we chose the Alaskan King crab decongest and it was great! The cheese and crackers were very good as was the bread basket. I ordered the Rainbow Trout Almandine and my sister ordered the rib and scallop combo. I loved my fish. It was delicate and not fishy at all. My sister said the ribs were tender but she's had better. Everyone does it different. I tried one of her scallops and it was perfection. I love the atmosphere at the Duck Inn! It's an old school supper club and decorated very festive for the holidays. The decor is not necessarily my taste but it's fun. We ordered a variety of food ... calamari, oysters, cheese logs, crab legs, porterhouse , New York strip and filet. I ordered the New York strip and it was not as tender as I expected it to be. I should have gone with the filet. The oysters and crab legs were both very fishy tasting . The porterhouse was ordered to be medium rare but was served to us well done. Calamari had a nice taste. The place was very busy as it was New Year's Eve . I was impressed with the service because she appeared to have a lot of tables and we never went without drinks and the wait for our meals was not bad at all. The bar area is fun and you can buy pull tab tickets which is fun! Bathrooms are also clean . We had our company Christmas party of 18 ppl here on a Thursday night in January and were beyond impressed. The service, drinks and food were all spot on! The servers were extremely attentive with great attitudes. We all ordered off the daily dining menu and there were absolutely no issues or complaints. All the food came out in a very timely manner and at the same time. To top it off, everything was cooked to perfection and just as ordered. A few of the favorites were; Crab Stuffed Mushrooms, Filet w/ Gorgonzola Walnut butter, Porterhouse, Chef Jim's Chicken Cordon Bleu, New York Strip, Beef Burgundy Tips Pasta, Pan Fried Rainbow Trout and the Baby Back Ribs. The first thing I did when we got seated was ask our server, "Would it be accurate to say that we are in the middle of nowhere right now?" He affirmed that we were. Took a while to get there from our resort in Delavan, but well worth the drive. You walk into this place, and you walk into the 1960s, and for me, that is a good thing. Beautiful wood paneling, nice big fireplace, massive ceilings, old fashioned decor, and a long bar that seats probably 30 people with cozy booths adjacent. I am guessing this is where Billy Joel and Elton John would have performed if they made the restaurant circuit in the early 70s. Nice dark old school supper club feel. The food was good and it's nice to have something like duck now and then. Loved the Wisconsin cheese and crackers on the table to start. Can't wait to come back. I want to come back here sometime and spend the better part of an afternoon just hanging out. First off our server rocked it out (Wendy) and was absolutely terrific! Friendly, outgoing and a pleasure to have as a server. Food varied... I couldn't find the Escargot in the Escargot stuffed mushrooms, I assume it was cut up really small or pureed with some type of cheese/butter stuff. The duck sampler was tremendous, cooked perfectly, skin crispy, my husband and I both loved the mushroom sauce and the others (l'orange, cherry, apple) were good too, I really liked the cherry and all of them went well with the duck. We also split the pheasant and it was a half pheasant over dressing and gravy. Dressing and gravy was delicious... the pheasant was good but the breast was dry... that was extremely disappointing. If you covered it with dressing and gravy it was edible but we didn't want to return it so we wound up taking it home and basically tossing it out. Martinis were decent but served in a small martini glass and not a size that fine restaurants usually use. Atmosphere was crowded but very friendly and quite comforting. Got there on A Saturday night around 6:30 to find it packed with guests. Was not sure we would be dinning but was assured only a 20 min wait and they were true to there word. The 4 of us were seated and while we waited for service for a bit, the menu kept us occupied and barely noticed. Wife ordered Duck, I ordered 8 ounce filet, boys ordered Lamb chops and NY strip steak. Comes with choise of soup or salad, and various types of potatoes.(no veg?) We also got onion rings and stuffed mushrooms. Wow everything was amazing son ordered Lamb chops medium they were big and came more well done..his fault should med rare. Service was great! Get a table! The bar is for warm up drinks not fine dining. Everything went well. We were served in a timely manner and the food was good. My half a duck was perfect except of the orange sauce that thankfully came on the side, It was way too sweet, not the usual sauce that come with this meal. The others at my table liked their salmon and another duck meal that was the breast only. This only thing that held my fifth star back was that after we got the food our waitress disappeared. We wanted a wine list and more drinks and rubbernecked for some time before we found the waitress. The same to get the check. I know she probably got busy somewhere else but it was irritating. One member of our party had to have her food boxed up to leave because her kids were so tired from waiting. She never got the chance to eat. Had a fabulous meal! The cheese and crackers (herb and cheddar, I think) we're delicious. The rolls were not just warm but pipping hot. Just cut one open and insert a butter pat and wait for it to melt. The homemade creamy garlic dressing was delicious! The broiled orange rough was the best I've had in a long time. The queen-cut prime rib was a generous portion and perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. The prices are more than I usually spend on a meal, but once in awhile it is nice to splurge. A fun Wisconsin Supper club ambience and setting that was originally built in the 1920's. We had 8pm reservations and went with a party of 6. "RUBBER" duck inn There were 4 of us and we all ordered different meals. The duck in two different forms was a little dry and really had no flavor unless you smother it with the sauce until u can't taste the duck. Then it was ok. Duck Inn was a delightful experience. The atmosphere is charming and has that old timey lodge supper club feel. The spreadable cheeses as a starter are a nice touch. I had a filet mignon with bleu cheese bacon butter for my main course, and it was amazing. My wife had beef tenderloin special that was also good. We shared a piece of German chocolate cake and a small grasshopper for dessert, and both left us very stuffed and very happy. The only downside really was that the service, not just our server, all seemed collectively stressed and disorganized. Everyone was very sweet, but we experienced a few errors and delays at our table, and we saw it happening around the restaurant regardless of the server. Somehow the topic of WI supper clubs came up at a party, so we decided to find one to go to. My wife found this one on Yelp. Headed up with a group of 6 on a Saturday night. After enjoying a better-than-average old fashioned at the beautiful bar, had what we all thought was an excellent meal. The prime rib was generous and extremely well spiced. Trout Almondine was done perfectly. The duck and the goose (special) were both good, done just right although a tad under salted. For dessert, the autumn pie was stellar, lava cake was ok. Overall the service was good, about what we would expect at this type of place. We traveled an hour to get there and we all want to go back. Seated (wasn't real crowded) and took our time with an app. Most of our table had various cuts of steak and they didn't disappoint. The main dining area was absolutely covered in kitschy Christmas decorations! Train set, multiple Santas, dolls and all. As for the fish fry, there was a broiled and fried cod - the broiled was super and had some amazing seasoning. The fried was simple but tasty. We went all out on sides - fries, potato pancakes, and applesauce... Like the fried cod, it was all simple but delicious. Most are average but The Duck Inn pulls it off with a delightful German spin that makes it a personal favorite. The breading on all of the fish from Cod to Schmeldt is perfect and the potato pancakes with applesauce on the side are to die for. The wait staff are friendly, helpful, and efficient.
