The price was right and the food was delicious. My husband ordered the grilled bologna and I got the tuna. Both were great but he adored the Bologna. This place is a little dive bar- the crowd at the time must have found every old honky tonk song (think Dukes of Hazzard them song and the. Go farther back in your country memories). Certainly a Locals Bar, but there is nothing wrong with that. We came in for some pre-game drinks after breakfast, and ended up coming back after we left the game for one more drink. Bartender was really nice, and definitely poured a much stiffer drink then most of the places I went to over the weekend. Everyone was friendly and chatty and we weren't treated like outsiders. The bar is very diverse and you can feel a sense of community with all the locals, everyone knows everyone and seem to get a long well at this local watering hole. We didn't eat but it seems on Game Day or maybe it is just Sunday mornings they offer a little complimentary breakfast buffet which was a nice touch. Pricing was fair on the liquor, and they have $2.50 pints of PBR. If I were a local, this would definitely be my jam. read more

I'm also one who appreciates and notices when people are busy/overwhelmed to give them a grace period but the drinks arrive. Megan is the favorite. I popped into the dug out last Friday to watch baseball since the game was only on cable and I don't have cable. Found a seat at the bar next to a guy that seemed a little off and three ladies that were having a good time. I was obviously into the game and had mentioned to the guy next to me who I was cheering for and why... then he started talking crap. Before I got there he couldn't care less about the game, now that I was there he started whispering things under his breath about the game and cheering for the other team - I almost freaking lost it and turned around and did something that could have got me in trouble. Probably the closest I've gotten to that like ever. That being said, it's an interesting place. It's a dive bar - they serve food - union stickers line the beer coolers (i think that's pretty cool) - patio seating for when it's nice - smoking, but the smoke on a Friday night didn't smoke me out. ventilation seems pretty good, but could be totally different in the winter when things are closed up. Pizza was mediocre but edible. They have a couple Sun King offerings, but other than that not much for microbrews - more of a "give me a High Life and a shot of Jamo" kinda place anyway. read more

The Dugout is a perfect example of a place where you shouldn't have too high of expectations. I went in wth this mindset and came out pleasantly surprised. Was it the best veggie pizza I've ever tasted? No; but it's better than many other "craft" pizzas I've tasted in the circle city. A typical shot around the city costs around $5 but here; they have beer and shot specials for $3, a great steal! The service was wonderful. Our waitress felt horribly for how long it took for our two pizzas so she gave us all a second round of shots for free. Amazing service! We really enjoy the dugout! We've been there 3 times now and always have excellent service. It's not your standard "dive bar" and is definitely more popular. There is always a good crowd but that doesn't effect our service at all. Beer selection is decent, but not super large. Can't beat the prices though. They recently expanded into what used to be cafe Nona and have a much bigger outdoor area now as well. Darts, large tables, TVs, tater tots...what more do you need?! read more

For a dive bar this place is 5 stars. Located in fountain square and has been for many decades the dugout has become a staple of the area. Nice part about fountain square is parking is always free! Different from many of the newer bars and restaurants in the area this place is inexpensive yet still on par if not better than typical bar food. They offer lunch and dinner and then brunch on weekends. I've never not seen this place busy which shows they are doing something right. I've had a variety of food and it's all been good, also an extremely clean kitchen the 1 time I saw inside which is reassuring considering it is a "dive bar". Decades ago, this place was a neighborhood dive with the focus of offering cheap drinks to its regular clientele. With the installation of Cityway and development of the neighborhood, The Dugout lucked out by being in a great location. The Dugout has expanded and made structural improvements, but the missing piece is a focus on improving the food. It would be great if The Dugout invested in a real chef and do a menu makeover. Great beer selections, not too many on tap but the bottle/canned choices were good. We loved Stacy the bartender! She was so spunky and fun and made our first experience really nice. A great place to flea when you can't take the hipsters of fountain square anymore...working class all the way. I've been hearing good things about the pizza lately. This is a no frills, neighborhood bar. If you are a repeat visitor, the wait staff will remember you. I have been here several times and have never been disappointed. My last visit was on a Sunday before a Colts game. It was our last stop before headed to the game. We grabbed some pizza and fried cheese cubes (not to be missed). The pizza was piled high with cheese and toppings. The crust was think and cracker like. The cheese cubes served with ranch were a big hit! It was our least expensive visit of the day and this one included lots of food. Another GREAT night at the Dugout! We celebrated our friend's birthday last night. Dinner was delicious. I had the Veggie Wrap with onion rings. Very flavorful. One friend had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap and commented on how much chicken was in the wrap. Two friends split the Pulled Pork Nachos. One word: pizza. Wow, just wow. I've lived in Indianapolis for almost 4 years now and have not found a pizza place that I've just loved. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy Jockamo's, Bazbaux's, and some of the other iconic pizza places but they just aren't the style I want when I crave pizza. I grew up in southern Indiana where pizzas are a more homemade style with crumbley sausage and cut into squares. I realized that just wasn't the norm everywhere else. I've finally found that Dugout offers this kind of pizza and it tastes pretty damn close to my favorites from home. I've been occasionally going to the Dug Out off and on for the last 2 years but it wasn't until this past week that I tried one of their pizzas. Now I've already been twice this week for a pizza; they are about to see my a lot more. This place just has that neighborhood feel; like everyone knows each other. Their drinks are cheap and they serve late night food which is delicious. I also love their hot wings and potato skins! They have so many other awesome sounding options on their menu I've been wanting to try; I'm sure everything is delicious! What a cute little "hole in the wall" bar. We were due to meet family for an early New Years Eve dinner downtown right next door. We park the car, walk about a block in really freezing temps to find our destination isn't open yet. The bar next door is! We go in for a drink, what a cute place. Taking a table we were entertained by the patrons at the bar who clearly started New Years Eve a little early- they were all singing along with the juke box. The waitress had command of the bar, the tables, and she was hoppin! Incredible service. What I liked the best was hearing they use a local distributors for some of their alcohol. I love Dugout. It's a smoky dive bar located in Fountain Square where it seems like most of the patrons are locals/regulars. They have really great pub grub like awesome pizzas, fried bologna sandwiches, a BLT consisting of approx 1 lb of bacon, a wonderful Philly cheesesteak, and weekend specials like fried frog legs or fried smelt, etc. They also have karaoke on certain nights which is really cool to watch. It's an older karaoke crowd who take pride in singing some great vocals/standards songs. There are a few tables outside on the sidewalk and it's kinda fun to sit out there and watch all of the Fountain Square traffic go by. So, if you want some pub grub and alcohol then go to the Dugout. If you want some food and need to sober-up go to Peppy Grill. read more

This is a neighborhood hole in the wall type place but is very good at being just that. I have ordered food here multiple times. The wings are solid. The pizza is good. And their burgers are, well burgers. The reason im giving four stars and not three is because this past week my gf and I stoped in for a beer while on a bike ride (its important to stay hydrated) and ordered the special to split. You can't go wrong at The Dugout. It's the best dive bar around town. The food is good and service is always spot on, serving strong drinks. You might be hard pressed for a table, depending on the night, as they have plenty of TV's for sports fans. My only complaint is that it's no longer our little secret....the word is out about this small, neighborhood bar. read more
