On Christmas Day 12/25/2022, I wanted to get a bag of goodies from Duke's Bakery in Rowland Heights for my Mom, my brothers + family, and my cousin. This was my 1st time visit here. It's a cute bakery shop. Quite spacious. And it has miniature carts for the customers to gather their pastries/breads... how convenient! You can actually remove the basket from the cart to place on the counter... very nicely designed! It didn't take me long to decide on which pastries/breads to get as I had already knew what I wanted based on some of the reviews I read beforehand. I got 4 of each pastry below x 4 so 16 total. I didn't know Miss Durian was $8.00 until now as I'm typing this review... oh well we live and learn LOL. Yeah, preliminary bill came out to be $88+ for pastries only LOL... just a tad pricey... darn durian, but I do love my durian LOL. I have to say the pastries are larger than the normal $2.50+ pastries that I get from other bakeries. 1. Miss Durian $8.00 - For an $8.00 pastry, it was small in size and durian filling was very lacking... need 3 times more durian filling. Durian taste wasn't that appealing... I've eaten plenty of durian so I know my durian LOL! If I can't smell the durian, it's not the real deal LOL. Very disappointed with this one! Will not buy again! 2. Taro Angel $4.50 - Bread was soft, size was big, but taro filling was lacking a bit... need to fill it up with more taro! May buy again if taro filling improves! 3. Hokkaido Azuki & Milk Toast $5.00 - Very tasty toast! Good size bread. I love this one the best. More red bean filling would have been nice though. Will buy again! 4. Sesame $4.50 - I like this one the least. Bread wasn't that soft. Did not care for the black sesame texture and taste... very grainy! Will not buy again! The lady at the register was really nice. She didn't speak much English if at all. She started speaking to me in Mandarin and I'm like I speak Cantonese or at least I try LOL. She said she didn't speak Cantonese that well, but she did attempt it and I thought she did extremely well... better than my Cantonese IMHO. Thank you! Anyway, she introduced me to their VIP program... if I spend $100 or over, I can join their VIP program and get 10% off all future purchases. She recommended I either get a $20 gift certificate or buy more pastries to get to $100. I went with the gift certificate so I can try their other pastries at another time... so my total bill came out to be over $100... Merry Christmas to Duke's LOL AND my next batch of pastries/breads better be impressive LOL. They have a location in Arcadia so I'll be going to that one since I'm in that area more often than in Rowland Heights. However, I've been coming to Rowland more often lately. So yeah, if you can get passed their $4.50+ pastries/breads, you'll be tasting some unique and delicious pastries/breads. Happy Duke'ing! P.S. Located in a plaza off the 210 Fwy. We saw this bakery and wanted to try their goodies. We selected 3 types of pastries, but unfortunately I didn't take a picture from the shelves to see what I actually bought! LOL In any case, our family loved eating them. Their bread is so soft and plush! The selection is hit or miss depending on how much business they have that day. I don't like the cream-based breads because of the ferment flavor. However, all the walnut breads, chocolate breads, and the plain toast are delicious! You can freeze any bread you don't finish. It heats up easily in a toaster oven. read more

Just went around while waiting for the table at Chubby Cattle but ended up with a bag of pastries. The way they offered samples to customers was amazing to me. So surprised that all of them were fresh and light sweet. I really enjoyed the customer service. I bought a tiramisu long size, but I wasn't sure if it would stay fresh until I finished my dinner. The cashier provided me with an ice bag to keep it cool without any extra cost, and I was grateful for her service. I'll be back next time. read more

Heavily disappointed in this place. I was looking for something sweet and was super excited to try their Hokkaido Milk and Azuki toast. I think their shelf labeling was wrong or confusing and I ended up overpaying for these two boxes of salted yolk toast. Never left a bakery so regretful. read more

Everything I purchased here was subpar compared to other bakeries in the area. Japanese style white bread didn't have the soft chewy textures it's suppose to have. This version was dry. Sesame Cream Roll tasted like cool whip rolled inside sliced bread. I barely tasted any sesame flavor. Tiramisu White Chocolate, lacked any flavor. It also tasted like cool whip and some layer cake. Green Tea cake was the best of all the cakes, but still not something I would buy again. It seemed that they wanted to get the "not too sweet" part right, but forgot about imparting flavors that would make the cakes enjoyable. After paying, I asked the lady for some napkins. She rolled here eyes and came back with 1 thin napkin. Perfect way to top of a subpar experience. read more

Stumbled upon this place as we were waiting for our table, a few streets down, to be ready for us. We had about 15 min of doing completely nothing and I saw a BAKERY sign. When it comes to desserts we are there and I'm glad we all made it in and got to savor every second of this place. The place was closing down for the night, didn't have much in stock, but we walked out happy with about 6 items. The caramel cheese tart won my heart. I can't seem to shake it until now. They only had 2 in stock, but I enjoyed every second it was going down. Probably the best continuous 30 seconds of my life. It was unbelievable!!! Never had a tart that gave me a mouthgasm. By far the best dessert we picked out and I'll make sure I buy more next time. Only downside: $3.75 for 30 seconds of satisfaction...wish it lasted longer. :/ read more

A different kind of experience at a bakery. 1.They have shopping carts to put your bread in!!! 2.They offer samples of their bread! The bread here isn't personal size, but definitely shareable. Of course selection depends on what time of day you come. The azuki red bean and matcha was so good. The matcha croissant is for any matcha lover.I also really liked the garlic bread. Bread is a little pricey due to the premiumness. Good appetizer or dessert right next door to Boiling Point! Only like 4-6 seats inside. This bakery is the bomb! I went here after eating dim sum for a tasty treat to go. I got taro mochi and red bean w/matcha mochi, cheese egg custard tart, coconut bread, and a mango cake dessert. Mochi- the best dessert ever! I bit into it and was surprised by a cream filled mochi covered thin cake layer at the base. Like what the heck is that pure deliciousness!?! Omg both the taro and red bean paste were like this. I am absolutely coming back for this! (Long embrace to whoever thought of this treasure). I actually ate the taro and forgot to take the picture of inside because I was so taken by the dessert. Cheese Egg custard- I got a glazed one with a sweet glazed sugar over the top of a creamy custard filling and pie like base. It was great. I do like 85* over this egg tart but because of the taro dessert I will opt for this place :)) Coconut bread- this was good. Its not very sweet, so if you like a less sweet pastry this is a good option. Bread with some coconut flakes interwoven and random spots of sweetness. It could gave been a lil more moist but it went well with my coffee in the morning. Mango cake dessert- my boyfriend tried this dessert. It was topped with blueberries and a mango glaze. Underneath it had a pancake like batter base. This was our least favorite dessert though it looked fancy. For reasonable prices and a mind blowing mochi dessert...I give this place 4 stars. I finally got the chance to try the famous Duke Bakery. I spy with my little eye, bags of truffle bread at the bakery. I didn't pick them up right away and they were gone when I came back again. Coconut bread ($3.50): bigger than your typical bread, the coconut bread was pretty good. It was slightly too sweet for me, but I loved the sweet shredded coconut. All stars here are for taste and texture of bread. For what they do have, it's really good. However, half the bakery is literally empty shelves every single time I go here. It feels like a ghost town here. Service is non-existent. A lady who says the price of your bread and puts it in a bag. No "how are you"...no "anything I can help you find"...nothing. Stopped by this cute bakery after dimsum and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality and flavors of the loaves sold here. After sampling a couple options, the samples are in a basket in front of each stack of bread, we decided we needed to grab a couple for our journey back to AZ. The shopping cart has a liner, you place your loaf inside and they package each loaf in a cellophane wrapper upon checkout. They also sell amazing looking cakes, coffee, boba and tea drinks, cheese tarts & egg tarts, something for everyone. They have a cute dine in area or take it to go. read more

We ended up buying 3 loaves and was going to buy more (because of the samples)! I loved almost everything. My children loved the French Hot Dog and the Hades (chocolate, Oreo, and butter chips). Recently, I bought a taro-filled bread in the Duke of Bread. Because the whole one was too long, I broke it into small pieces at home and fed my toddler. When I broke to the third piece, I saw the small fly inside the bread. Latter I reminded the seller to pay attention. Unexpectedly, after contacting, the boss said, "Can it still be like that after roasting bread?" He didn't pay attention to hygiene at all, but questioned that I put insects?! My favorite Asian bakery hands down. Located in the Diamond Plaza. You can indulge in samples of their breads before purchasing. The baked breads have influenced recipes from Japan, Europe and Taiwan which makes this bakery unique. The ingredients are superb and I enjoy the beverages too. During the week Duke offers discounts on the baked goods and beverages. The chef bakes everything in house and distributes their products to their other sister locations and some grocery stores. The breads are larger than their competitors and I prefer how the wrappers seal - which keep the product fresh and tasty for days. Even though the price per item is higher than the competition - the size and quality in my opinion are worth it. read more

When we went there around 6pm on Friday, they said they had no more drinks. The bakery selection was decent, and prices were similar to that of 85 degree bakery, but their buns are pretty big. Banana bread: The banana flavor was very subtle, and I had a lot of bread with only a little bit of banana spread in the center. Personally, I wish they incorporated the banana into the bread more somehow because most of the time, I felt like I was just eating plain bread, 3/5. Sesame bread: The sesame flavor was good and mixed some into the bread itself, 4/5. Their breads reminds me more of french or american bread/loafs where it's more doughy, than the traditional asian bakery breads that are more fluffy and super soft. Overall, more of a 3.5/5, but I rounded up for the sake of this review. read more

The coconut bread is my favorite. It looks like a liitle wreath with coconut and raisins peeking out between the slits on the 7 inch round loaf. The bread is somewhat chewy,soft and flaky, all at the same time. I take it home and cut out small chunks of it when I feel the craving. The bread is extra delicious if you toast it on the stove in.a small frying pan The bottom becomes more crisp and the coconut filling begins to run and the raisins plump up ! For starters, it's one of the cleaner places I've been to and I definitely enjoy the atmosphere, but this place is too pricey for the amount of bread they make. I walked into this store with some friends the other day because I saw that they were selling fish skin ($5 for a pack, similar price to the $4.50 in Asian markets so this here was already a sign...) and in the midst of glancing around I took a peak at their bread choices. Display is pretty and I am sure the bakers did their best with making the food, but I was surprised to see $4-5 prices on the few bread items they have. They didn't have much to display but seeing it was an hour before closing perhaps the staff was already putting things away especially since none of us were greeted and the workers were minding their own business. Duke bakery offers a variety of freshly baked goods. This store is very clean and enforced physical distancing. Today, I tried one of their coconut breads. I like this because of the coconut shavings that is incorporated in the bread. One downfall though is that some sides of the bread had heavy sugar coating while the others did not.
