I stopped at Duke's Malibu for lunch on the drive from Long Beach to Ventura. I always take Highway 1 / Pacific Coast Highway instead of the 101. The extra time is worth the scenery & serenity. Valet is the only parking option; they accept credit cards for both the fee and tip. Ocean views from the restaurant are excellent and service has been consistently good on every visit. I ordered the Macadamia-nut and herb crusted sea bass with low-carb sides. The accompanying slaw was surprisingly good. Duke's is a reliable mid-point stop when heading north on the PCH toward Ventura. Recommended.
Love me some Duke's! Been trying to get here since they reopened - so glad they have. Duke's has a great view of the ocean and the open-air Hawaiian style of the place is always so welcoming. Be prepared to pay $12 to valet- worth every penny in my opinion. You could also street park. Sat in the bar facing the Pacific. I had their classic Mai Tai and had 2 orders of their famous coconut shrimp. Absolutely stellar- big juicy shrimp and a perfect Mai Tai. Servers are adorable! Hard working and so warm. Loved how I was treated. Go and treat yourself! I did and I am so glad! That is all.
We visited the Duke's in Waikiki on our honeymoon 7 years ago, so it was fitting to come here for our anniversary while in town. The views can't be beat. It's right on the ocean. One thing to note is parking is all valet, as far as we can tell. It was worth it though to not have to worry. We were seated right next to the window, but all tables seemed to have good views. The staff could not have been nicer. They were so friendly and comped us an anniversary dessert. It was the Hula Pie and I'll be thinking of that pie for a long time! So good! I had a Mai Tai which was strong and delicious. We both split the ahi bowl and the fish of the day. Not one bad bite. We finished every last morsel. What a beautiful dinner to celebrate our anniversary!
The Bottom Line 4 stars: Nice vibe, food and drinks. Brings back memories of Waikiki Beach with a SoCal twist. Highly recommended! Location 4 stars: On the busy PCH in Malibu, CA, just across from Las Flores Canyon Road. Paid Valet Parking only. Venue 5 stars: Beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean from indoors and the outdoor patio. Indoor is a full serve restaurant that takes reservations via Open Table. Outdoors is a walk-in called the Barefoot Bar. You can get the full menu there as well. Service 3 stars: Friendly and helpful staff but not very attentive! Drinks 4 stars: Full bar and specialty drinks, beer (on tap and bottle), wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee. Duke's Mai Tai and Duke's Old Fashioned are pretty good. Food 4 stars: Hawaii-inspired modern American food. We started with the Crab Wontons and the Ahi Sashimi. We then had the Filet Mignon, the Fish Tacos, the Sautéed Mac Nut and Herb Crusted Fresh Fish and the Rib and Chicken Plate. All were excellent and highly recommended!
When in Malibu, this is a great, happy place for a celebration. The views are pretty good too. We were celebrating a college graduation and had picture perfect seating next to the Pacific Ocean. Table service was excellent. Our server was friendly and had help from many other Duke's servers. Ambience, well it's at the ocean. I had the seafood hot pot with lobster, which was a delicious choice with coconut curry sauce. Make reservations early! Parking is only valet, yet not too expensive, $12 Duke's Malibu: Recommended Bon appétit!
We were so happy to be able to come back to celebrate my husband's birthday with dukes Malibu. It was too long but understandable with the mudslide and stuff. The staff was warm and welcoming as usual, very attentive as well. We were seated by the window where we had a perfect view of the waves and there were crashing beautifully. I wish I had taken a photo of that. We all enjoyed our food. The fish and chips seemed to have changed a bit, but was delicious.
Had a lovely date with my husband here the other night. Made a reservation for a window seat, but when we arrived they told us it would be quite a wait for a window, so we said nevermind (although we saw quite a few open window seat tables, which was a little annoying). Our food was delicious. My husband ordered some type of seafood stew and I had the fish tacos. Decent portion size and everything was seasoned well. Best of all, our MaiTais were amazing!!! Strong, and served in an authentic tiki goblet. So much fun. The waves were crashing on the windows which was amazing, and our server was extremely friendly (petite girl with cute glasses on) I wish I could remember her name...must have been the Mai Tais :)
Duke is now open again after the fires. It's only been 3 weeks so I decided to give them some love by visiting this iconic resturant. Parking: valet is $10 after 4pm on weekdays (I believe $12 all day on the weekend) but there's parking along PCH. Reservations: Use open table vs calling. When you call, they told us that there were no tables avaliable. This is due to short serving staff (for now). Last seating is 6:45pm, but the kitchen closes at 8pm. Food: The mac hummus was so good, it was flavorful and creamy. It was beautifully presented with radish, cucumbers and carrots. It's my first time having it and it'll be ordering it again. My friend ordered the Rocket Salad and enjoyed it very much. Mains: I got the macadamia and herb fresh fish, which was Mahi for the evening we went. I love capers but capers can be a bit salty, so might want to request ez capers or in the side. The fish was fresh and flakey. It was delicious. It comes with broccolini and jasmine rice but I got the mac salad instead. The mac salad was ok, it wasn't as bold as the Hawaiian mac salad that I was used to, but decent. Drink: I ordered the Lavender Yuzu Lemonade. I really thought it would be purple for the Lavender syrup but it wasn't. Regardless of the color, it was refreshing and not too strong. Service: we had Matthew who was absolutely amazing and attentive. My friend had requested some modifications and a lot of paper napkins and he was chill and funny about it. He even apologized for the quality of the napkins. It was probably a joke, but he had us laughing every time he stopped by the table. Over all service was 5/5.
Duke's is BACK and better than ever. We went last weekend and had a great table with a view of the ocean. The food was great. We started with the coconut shrimp, then moved on to fish tacos and the macadamia nut crusted sea bass. Everything was good and prices were reasonable. We couldn't leave without the Hula Pie. We had a great server and enjoyed every minute of lunch!
Great sunday lunch. I had the tuna poke. It was perfectly fine.You can't really go wrong with poke. My mom had the seafood hot pot. The rice was a little bit hard.But overall, a savory dish that is similar to like a thai coconut curry. They cooked the steak perfectly. Overall, good place to hang out.And watch the waves crash in the price wasn't too bad either. It's a very laid back hawaiian theme restaurant. The staff was very friendly and prompt.
Amazing view accompanied by great food and service! We got the crusted fish (sea bass), fish and chips (mahi mahi), ahi poke tacos, and ahi poke bowl. All the fish tasted very refreshing, however, the mahi mahi for the fish and chips made it more dense than expected. We were able to get the Hula pie for free as a birthday treat!
Duke's Malibu and Duke's Huntington Beach, we've been to both many times. But Duke's in Malibu just recently opened and it's been totally renewed, everything new, from top the bottom due to the smoke damage in Jan. 25 and being inundated with mud in Feb. 25. It's mid week we had waiting for us an elevated booth with a great view. Blue skies and the Pacific with pelicans diving into the sea were on display for our 2 hour lunch. It's all about the view. We ordered drinks and crab wontons, then fish and chips made with beer batter and macadamia nuts, and mahi mahi tacos, one grilled one battered. All good. The Hula Pie for dessert was very good-macadamia ice cream with hot fudge. $10-12 parking depending on the day. Various rooms to sit in. The elevated booth gives you a better view than the window table, in my opinion. Staff were very accommodating and friendly.

The food was excellent. I ordered the Mango BBQ Chicken Salad. It was amazing and especially the BBQ sauce. I was looking for a slither of mango but didn't find them, it was a mango sauce. But over all a good dish. The Hula Pie was just absolutely amazing. The customer service review: our waiter Drew was great and attentive. However, the front staff could have been a bit more friendly, I felt like since I refused to provide my phone number to Savanna, we were seated in the back corner that had a partial water view. While at the same time there were plenty of open tables with full ocean view. read more
Good eats, drinks, and sights! Came here for an early bday brunch and it did not disappoint! While waiting for our table we went to the bar and had some really yummy drinks. POG COCKTAIL BLOODY MARIA RASPBERRY MOJITO SPICY CUCUMBER MARGARITA = delicious! For the apps, we got calamari and poke tacos. Omg so good! The biggest standout being the poke tacos. So fresh and super yummy wasabi avocado topping. Entrees we're just as good! My party had the loco loco and steak and fries. The loco moco had a great sauce and the steak was cooked perfectly. So tender! The hula pie was definitely the cherry on top of this great brunch! It was large and we all split it. The macadamia ice cream is good and that hot fudge just ties it all together. Celebrated an 80th birthday here for the views. The views delivered. The food underwhelmed on every level. I visit Dukes in Waikiki Beach every year during Fourth of July for vacation. Love the place love the vibe and the food is always solid. Dukes Malibu was just not the same in my opinion. The service was very lacking. We could not wait to get our bill and get out. It was a party of 10. The dinner took nearly two hours. And we only actually ate food for about 10 mins of that two hours. The rest was waiting...and waiting...and waiting. When the food came it was 50/50 split at our table whether it was good or not. I had the rib and chicken combo. Started with a salad. The salad was so salty I thought something was wrong with my taste buds. Then my entree was equally salty and I definitely thought it was a me issue not a chef issue. However two other people commented on the saltiness of their plates. Now again 50% of the dishes were good. We also had the calamari for the table which I felt was by far the strongest thing I ate that night. Come for the views stay for the drinks and if your hungry try the fish and chips. Kids and I love making the trek to Malibu to get us our fix of Hawaiian without traveling the 5 hour plane ride. Valet parking is $8. Or if it's not a weekend it may be easy enough to find street parking for free. Can't be the location and the view. Right off the PCH, see if you can snag a window seat to watch the waves crashing while dining. We always get the poke tacos, coconut shrimp, and sticky ribs. All tasty and great starters. For the main they have a wide array of seafood however love the ahi steak that comes with rice and bok choy. Thu/Fri they have a surf and turf menu. Do NOT miss the hula pie for dessert. An absolute MUST. read more

We went for a brunch that is on their website and were told it hasn't existed for years. Service was terrible, no one ever asked me for more coffee and my water was only refilled at the end. The food value was also very low. Incredibly small portions for the price. The restaurant itself was very nice. read more

We had such an amazing time at Duke's to celebrate my mom's 83 birthday. We went for the amazing ocean views and food (both present in full effect) but really, it was staff that made this an incredible experience. From the bartender Matt (we got there early!) to our waitress, Caroline to the thoughtful manager ... we left thinking of reasons we could visit Malibu again just to hang with these folks! Thanks so much for making my mom feel special and damn that macadamia nut crusted swimmer killed. Oh-- and Madewest on Tap? This place is evidence that God exists! read more
Hubby and I enjoyed a fun birthday dinner here a few months back! We scored a comfy booth facing the ocean waves. Our server was very nice and even split our entrée without us having to ask. Old Fashioned & Lava Flow - 5/5 Delicious and fattening! Korean Sticky Ribs - 5/5 Tender and fall off the bone. Clam Chowder - 4/5 On the thick side. Pretty good. Macadamia Nut Halibut - 5/5 So good! Definitely recommend this. Hula Pie - 5/5 Complimentary for my hubby's birthday. Huge portion but we persevered and ate it all! Service - 5/5 Great, attentive service. Clean bathroom. read more

Customer service was friendly and great overall! I ordered the fish tacos- one battered, one grilled. I was expecting more as they were described as a staff/customer favorite.. Battered was "better", I wouldn't retry the grilled. The tortillas and salsa were quite basic. I will say the panko crusted calamari and crab wontons were delicious!! If your looking for a casual place to hangout that has great views I would recommend coming here. Food was surprisingly good but service can be better. That said, it's chill and relaxing looking out at the waves. We had the ribs and seared ahi bow as you can see I was hungry and forgot to take a photo before and it was both amazing! I would go back for it. That said it did remember to take a photo of the burger and it was so good. The bbq pork was cooked so well and melted in your mouth from every bite. Lastly, I wanted desert and ordered the ice cream cake and OMG! It was amazing! Huge and good for 2 or more people and is a must try for macadamia ice cream and chocolate lovers. read more

I guess if you have a location like this then mediocre food would suffice. This place is valet parking and right next to the coast so the views are fantastic. We sat on the patio at night, was a little chilly even with the ceiling heaters. Cocktails weren't my favorite, we tried 2 and neither were memorable. Raspberry Mojito was one of those. The food was, as I said before, mediocre. It's high quality sounding, but lacks overall flavor and seasoning. I got a beef tenderloin, and it was not tender or seasoned properly by any means. I ordered a side of coconut shrimp as well, which barely tasted of coconut. For a $42 steak, I expected much more. Overall, you're paying for the view because this place wasn't worth it for the food/drinks alone. read more
If you want good American and great views, fair prices, Duke's is definitely worth the stop. I ordered the usda prime sirloin plate, and I wish I had ordered two, even if I couldn't finish it, packed with amazing flavor, even the broccoli was well seasoned! The loco moco is crazy good. People should be going loco for that dish. Thick burger patty served on a bed of white rice and amazing tasting gravy crowned by an egg over easy. This dish is perfection. We sat on the bar area that over looked ocean. Dolphins can be seen swimming at a distance while i sipped my coffee. Combine this with the amazing friendly service and my breakfast felt zen. Definitely taking a ride back soon for seconds on the loco moco and the ocean view. read more

Its our first time to dine here in Malibu with our friend who was visiting from out of town. We were late for our 12:45 pm reservation but when i called in they said it was okey. We had to wait for 15-20 mins to be seated but it was fine. We were seated by the window as i had requested which had a nice view of the beach. We enjoyed our orders of calamari , coconut shrimp as well as my Roasted Duke's halibut fish. We also made sure to order the Hula Pie for dessert which was yummy. Our server was very gracious and regularly checked on us. The ambiance was very nice. Feels like you're in Hawaii. Parking is solely valet at $9 if im not mistaken. We enjoyed our experience and would definitely come back. read more

I always am hesitant to order a burger from restaurants, but this one always hits the spot! Me and my dad always come here when we are feeling down or need just a place to unwind. Definitely not great, there were 4 of us, we had a lousy server, we had to ask him to clean the tabletop, ask for water, straws and for drinks to be ordered. He brought me the straw, holding it with his fingers, not a napkin to hold it with, I was shocked. My Farmer's Omelet was $16.50, small and sitting in oil, I needed another plate to pour all the oil out. I wanted to get something other then potatoes, but there weren't very good options I went with the strange Asian coleslaw and it didn't come with any bread. Maybe it did, and the server forgot to bring it, I've never been served an omelet without a couple of slices of toast. It wasn't very filling or appetizing whatsoever! Here you are paying for just the views, the food was disappointing and the service not very good. I would have liked a cup of coffee with my brunch item, but the waiter took so long to bring anything, it wasn't worth waiting for and I would have finished my omelet by the time it arrived. This was a very disappointing experience, I would not go back. read more
Lack luster gathering at Duke's Malibu today. Started off with empty hand sanitizer at the door. I told the front desk person and perhaps she got someone after we were seated.. thankfully i had my own. I was actually pretty surprised to be seated so promptly at 11 am on a Sunday, (July 18,2021) so i had high hopes of a lovely meal on the coast. We started off with water which was promptly brought to our table. Given a Q Code menu and perused the eats. We had a bloody Mary and Bubbles to start. The bloody Mary was nothing special. Really had higher hopes than what was served, especially for the high price tag. We ordered Kalua Pork sandwich, Duke's burger and fish&chips. When the server brought out our meals he asked if there was anything else we needed. And we were like, ummm yes..setups would great. I mean, no napkins or utensils, why we have to ask for this? We also asked for additional cocktail and tartar sauce for the fish, ranch and ketchup for the fries. He brought out the tartar sauce and cocktail sauce but nothing else and then just went missing Our two water glasses sat empty on the edge of the table for most the meal. Finally the server came back and asked if we wanted another drink, which we said yes. As well as more water and ketchup and ranch. Finally we had everything we needed 10 to 15 minutes later. The fries were soggy and terrible. The fish was served with coleslaw, but like a teaspoon of it! Not even sure why they bother. Fish was good. Pork sandwich was delicious. Burger was good. Our server was slow. And it really was disappointing to spend good money for subpar service. Then on top of it an additional $10 for valet parking (and I'm really not sure how i feel about some random person in my car who's been exposed to so many other people during a pandemic). So i wiped down my steering wheel and surfaces with disinfectant wipes and left. I think next time I'll be going to Gladstone's! Truly a bummer as i really love this place. read more

Hubby & I were in the area for a project. We decided to drop by for an early dinner around 4pm so we can grab a table with a view. Parking: valet only for $8. Service: overall very friendly & attentive. Reservation is highly suggested. Food: -Fresh Fish Chowder: very creamy & you can definitely take the sea. -Furikake Ahi Steak: the jasmine rice was a bit hard to chew, but the chili oil truffle unagi glaze helped soften it up a bit & absorbed all the nice flavors. The slightly seared tuna was very tender. I wished the bok choy was cooked a bit longer. The cucumber namasu tasted very refreshing. -Rib Plate (Substituted the chicken with an extra rib): hubby felt the jasmine rice was too hard. The macaroni salad was alright. He's glad the ribs made up for the rest of this dish. -Kimo's Original Hula Pie: this was hubby's favorite dish. He was a big fan of the toasted macadamia nuts & the macadamia nut ice cream. read more

The view is enough to go visit Dukes. Watching the sunset from there was awesome. But the Hula Pie is great. I've heard about it but hadn't tried it, and I get the hype now. The severs were so nice. They kept checking on me and my family. And even offered to take a photo of us next to the great view. I will for sure be visiting more. read more

Duke's is where I come every single time I visit Cali. It is special for Hubby and I because this is where our marriage started at their location in Waikiki. Just walking in always makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside and it helps that the ambience is absolutely amazing with tasty food and drinks! We made reservations for brunch which I've never tried but wasn't disappointed. Our large party sat at a table that had a view of the ocean waves hitting the rocks while we chatted, laughed and sipped on Mai Tai's in between. What else could be better? Oh yes the food. These little ahi tuna tacos were nestled in avocado goodness and drizzled with sauce that had to be made out of love! Duke's, I can't wait to return! read more

Wanna take in a nice sea spray, golden hour, tasty grub and delicious adult libations? If so, head over to the Barefoot Bar at Duke's, just inside from the patio(lanai) seating. The large ocean view windows are open and the waves crash just a few yards away! Friendly servers work the bar tables, so relax, some smiling face will be with you shortly to take your food and drink orders. We came into the bar a couple of hours ahead of our reservation, but decided to stay in the bar to eat because the food is the same, our servers were working hard and, honestly, the table they offered was not as "wave adjacent " as the bar table we were enjoying. After 2 rounds of fruity, tropical concoctions, we decide to eat. Fish tacos on point, signature burger with chick beef blend on brioche bun was flavorful and filling, but not overwhelming. HOWEVER, my custom made "French Fry Nachos" w/pulled pork BROKE da MOUTH! That's Island talk for unbelievably delicious! When I asked our server if they could substitute out the corn tortilla chips for French fries on the nachos she said, 'Huh, I've never had someone request that, but it sure sounds good, so I'll say Yes they can!' Y'all, you HAVE to try it - SOOOO good! By the time we rolled out to valet to grab the car ($8 on Friday at 6pm) we were VERY full and VERY happy. The bar was just starting to fill with people trying to grab a drink and dinner around sunset, so our timing to come in late after and leave by 6 was perfect. read more
I had gotten take out from Duke's once during the pandemic, but I finally came back to enjoy the view and dine in person this weekend! I made a reservation just over a week in advance for a Saturday evening and scored a 5:45 "Outdoor" table, which was exactly what I wanted so we could watch the sunset. Upon our arrival, they were ready to seat us.... in a tent in the parking lot. Uhhhh, no thanks. Upon expressing our disappointment, the hostesses were accommodating. We said we'd rather wait a bit and sit on the patio than take the table that was ready for us next to a fence. Luckily, they were able to reseat us on the patio and we were thrilled with our new table. Worth asking, but I also can't imagine wanting that original table when you make a reservation so far in advance and you go to Duke's mostly for the ambiance! You can see by my rating though that they still redeemed themselves. Service was a little slow, but it was great. Started off with drinks: Duke's Mai Tai (of course, never disappoints), the Honi Honi (which was basically the Mai Tai's older cousin. A little stronger and less sweet), and the Spicy Cucumber Margarita (we all tasted this one. It is SPICY! Not for the faint of heart). Got a plate of coconut shrimp to share and it was a great start! My boyfriend, who is really not a shrimp fan, tried it and said it was the first time he genuinely enjoyed tasting shrimp. He got the fish tacos (TIP: get one grilled and one beer battered!), our friend got the Furikake Ahi Steak, and I got the Sautéed Mac Nut and Herb Crusted Fresh Fish which was a Pacific Halibut this weekend. It was spectacular. Truly loved every bite. It was fresh, light, crispy, flavorful. The herbed jasmine farro rice it came with had a great chew to it. All around a great meal. Finished it off with the Hula pie. Definitely enough for 3 people to share. Make sure you come with your phone fully charged. The menu is all online and when you receive your receipt, it comes with a QR code to pay online. Made it very easy for us to pay with Apple Pay and divide the bill amongst the 3 of us. read more
We go for the Tito's, Calamigos and ice cold beers. The NACHOS (4 stars) and CALAMARI (5 stars) beckon us to settle in. But we stay for The Tamara. Duke's Barefoot Bar Bartendress Tamara is pure spunk, levity and sass personified - and brings an expert pour with every drink. I'm pretty sure she's a local's secret based on the characters that stroll in and out and the festive greetings exchanged... everything from flip-flops to business suits and motorcycle leathers... Everyone seems to know The Tamara.. We know her too...Duke's and The Tamara. Livin' the SoCal Dream. read more
