I stopped at Duke's Malibu for lunch on the drive from Long Beach to Ventura. I always take Highway 1 / Pacific Coast Highway instead of the 101. The extra time is worth the scenery & serenity. Valet is the only parking option; they accept credit cards for both the fee and tip. Ocean views from the restaurant are excellent and service has been consistently good on every visit. I ordered the Macadamia-nut and herb crusted sea bass with low-carb sides. The accompanying slaw was surprisingly good. Duke's is a reliable mid-point stop when heading north on the PCH toward Ventura. Recommended.
Love me some Duke's! Been trying to get here since they reopened - so glad they have. Duke's has a great view of the ocean and the open-air Hawaiian style of the place is always so welcoming. Be prepared to pay $12 to valet- worth every penny in my opinion. You could also street park. Sat in the bar facing the Pacific. I had their classic Mai Tai and had 2 orders of their famous coconut shrimp. Absolutely stellar- big juicy shrimp and a perfect Mai Tai. Servers are adorable! Hard working and so warm. Loved how I was treated. Go and treat yourself! I did and I am so glad! That is all.
We visited the Duke's in Waikiki on our honeymoon 7 years ago, so it was fitting to come here for our anniversary while in town. The views can't be beat. It's right on the ocean. One thing to note is parking is all valet, as far as we can tell. It was worth it though to not have to worry. We were seated right next to the window, but all tables seemed to have good views. The staff could not have been nicer. They were so friendly and comped us an anniversary dessert. It was the Hula Pie and I'll be thinking of that pie for a long time! So good! I had a Mai Tai which was strong and delicious. We both split the ahi bowl and the fish of the day. Not one bad bite. We finished every last morsel. What a beautiful dinner to celebrate our anniversary!
The Bottom Line 4 stars: Nice vibe, food and drinks. Brings back memories of Waikiki Beach with a SoCal twist. Highly recommended! Location 4 stars: On the busy PCH in Malibu, CA, just across from Las Flores Canyon Road. Paid Valet Parking only. Venue 5 stars: Beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean from indoors and the outdoor patio. Indoor is a full serve restaurant that takes reservations via Open Table. Outdoors is a walk-in called the Barefoot Bar. You can get the full menu there as well. Service 3 stars: Friendly and helpful staff but not very attentive! Drinks 4 stars: Full bar and specialty drinks, beer (on tap and bottle), wine, soft drinks, tea and coffee. Duke's Mai Tai and Duke's Old Fashioned are pretty good. Food 4 stars: Hawaii-inspired modern American food. We started with the Crab Wontons and the Ahi Sashimi. We then had the Filet Mignon, the Fish Tacos, the Sautéed Mac Nut and Herb Crusted Fresh Fish and the Rib and Chicken Plate. All were excellent and highly recommended!
When in Malibu, this is a great, happy place for a celebration. The views are pretty good too. We were celebrating a college graduation and had picture perfect seating next to the Pacific Ocean. Table service was excellent. Our server was friendly and had help from many other Duke's servers. Ambience, well it's at the ocean. I had the seafood hot pot with lobster, which was a delicious choice with coconut curry sauce. Make reservations early! Parking is only valet, yet not too expensive, $12 Duke's Malibu: Recommended Bon appétit!
We were so happy to be able to come back to celebrate my husband's birthday with dukes Malibu. It was too long but understandable with the mudslide and stuff. The staff was warm and welcoming as usual, very attentive as well. We were seated by the window where we had a perfect view of the waves and there were crashing beautifully. I wish I had taken a photo of that. We all enjoyed our food. The fish and chips seemed to have changed a bit, but was delicious.
Had a lovely date with my husband here the other night. Made a reservation for a window seat, but when we arrived they told us it would be quite a wait for a window, so we said nevermind (although we saw quite a few open window seat tables, which was a little annoying). Our food was delicious. My husband ordered some type of seafood stew and I had the fish tacos. Decent portion size and everything was seasoned well. Best of all, our MaiTais were amazing!!! Strong, and served in an authentic tiki goblet. So much fun. The waves were crashing on the windows which was amazing, and our server was extremely friendly (petite girl with cute glasses on) I wish I could remember her name...must have been the Mai Tais :)
Duke is now open again after the fires. It's only been 3 weeks so I decided to give them some love by visiting this iconic resturant. Parking: valet is $10 after 4pm on weekdays (I believe $12 all day on the weekend) but there's parking along PCH. Reservations: Use open table vs calling. When you call, they told us that there were no tables avaliable. This is due to short serving staff (for now). Last seating is 6:45pm, but the kitchen closes at 8pm. Food: The mac hummus was so good, it was flavorful and creamy. It was beautifully presented with radish, cucumbers and carrots. It's my first time having it and it'll be ordering it again. My friend ordered the Rocket Salad and enjoyed it very much. Mains: I got the macadamia and herb fresh fish, which was Mahi for the evening we went. I love capers but capers can be a bit salty, so might want to request ez capers or in the side. The fish was fresh and flakey. It was delicious. It comes with broccolini and jasmine rice but I got the mac salad instead. The mac salad was ok, it wasn't as bold as the Hawaiian mac salad that I was used to, but decent. Drink: I ordered the Lavender Yuzu Lemonade. I really thought it would be purple for the Lavender syrup but it wasn't. Regardless of the color, it was refreshing and not too strong. Service: we had Matthew who was absolutely amazing and attentive. My friend had requested some modifications and a lot of paper napkins and he was chill and funny about it. He even apologized for the quality of the napkins. It was probably a joke, but he had us laughing every time he stopped by the table. Over all service was 5/5.
Duke's is BACK and better than ever. We went last weekend and had a great table with a view of the ocean. The food was great. We started with the coconut shrimp, then moved on to fish tacos and the macadamia nut crusted sea bass. Everything was good and prices were reasonable. We couldn't leave without the Hula Pie. We had a great server and enjoyed every minute of lunch!
Great sunday lunch. I had the tuna poke. It was perfectly fine.You can't really go wrong with poke. My mom had the seafood hot pot. The rice was a little bit hard.But overall, a savory dish that is similar to like a thai coconut curry. They cooked the steak perfectly. Overall, good place to hang out.And watch the waves crash in the price wasn't too bad either. It's a very laid back hawaiian theme restaurant. The staff was very friendly and prompt.
Amazing view accompanied by great food and service! We got the crusted fish (sea bass), fish and chips (mahi mahi), ahi poke tacos, and ahi poke bowl. All the fish tasted very refreshing, however, the mahi mahi for the fish and chips made it more dense than expected. We were able to get the Hula pie for free as a birthday treat!
Duke's Malibu and Duke's Huntington Beach, we've been to both many times. But Duke's in Malibu just recently opened and it's been totally renewed, everything new, from top the bottom due to the smoke damage in Jan. 25 and being inundated with mud in Feb. 25. It's mid week we had waiting for us an elevated booth with a great view. Blue skies and the Pacific with pelicans diving into the sea were on display for our 2 hour lunch. It's all about the view. We ordered drinks and crab wontons, then fish and chips made with beer batter and macadamia nuts, and mahi mahi tacos, one grilled one battered. All good. The Hula Pie for dessert was very good-macadamia ice cream with hot fudge. $10-12 parking depending on the day. Various rooms to sit in. The elevated booth gives you a better view than the window table, in my opinion. Staff were very accommodating and friendly.
Came here to celebrate my wife's 1st Mother's Day. We usually eat at the Huntington Beach location but they did not have reservations available. I was a little disappointed in our experience here. Below is what made our experience less than favorable. - found a black pic of unknown in my wife's ginger ale, had to send it back. Felt like the waitress didn't like that we were sending it back. -found a hard pc of plastic debri in my salad. Didn't want to complain to waitress cause of the way she reacted when I requested new drink. -steak wasn't very flavorful, wish they had the prime rib still but was not on menu -mashed potatoes were a little dry. What we liked : -The greeters and hostesses were very nice. -our view was very nice! -wedge salad was good, maple bacon was a great touch. -broccolini had a great flavor -hula pie is always a must -valet was quick and helpful read more

The best thing about Dukes is the tables by the window. Love the Barefoot bar as well. This Dukes isn't nearly as good in terms of food as the one in Waikiki. The Hula Pie is amazing. The crab wontons were just eh, and a little fishy. The panko macadamia crusted halibut was good and fresh. The sirloin was a bit too lean. The coconut shrimp was good, but pricey. The ahi tuna had great flavor. Was a little disappointed we didn't get a free dessert for a birthday in our party nor a candle on top to celebrate, but ehhh. read more

Came to Duke's to celebrate a birthday and it did not disappoint. We sat outdoors with an amazing view of the ocean. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Ordered the Duke Burger, the prime steak with fries, sashimi and calamari. Also ordered an old fashioned and Cape d'Or Cabernet (red wine). Drinks and Food were amazing! I want to come back and try other dishes. Ambiance and great customer service through our visit. I highly recommend and prices are very reasonable. read more

Took my family to Duke's to celebrate the end of the school year. We made a reservation on OpenTable, had to call because we were running late, and were accommodated. The restaurant is Tiki themed with lots of options for beverages. The staff and our server were accommodating. We would have loved to have been given an option to wait for a window table since they were not that busy. I recommend waiting and listing that as a request with your reservation. The food was good, the portion a bit on the smaller side for the piece of steak. The star of the store was their signature dessert. Don't miss it. read more
Dukes has always been one of my favorite places. The service was pretty good and the food was delicious. We got a hula pie (a staple) as we were celebrating, and we will definitely be back soon for some of the best fish in malibu! It is pricey but you're paying for the view. read more
We traveled here from NJ to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday. She saw the Barefoot Bar when she was 6 as we drove up the PCH and from then on she dreamed of being at Duke's for her 21st. I made reservations far in advance and couldn't wait to go. We had the most perfect table which was a water view. Maani was the most amazing compliment to our table view. Great service, very attentive and excited for our journey. The ahi tuna steak was excellent. The sea salt steak was delicious and my burger was yummy. The POG slushie was phenomenal and didn't disappoint with the rum! For dessert, we shared a piece of hula pie and it was unique and very different from anything I ever had and was delicious. I highly recommend giving it a try even if you're unsure. Lastly, I was quite surprised there was a parking fee of $10 for a private lot. Any and all places I've ever been to validated your receipt and I suggest Duke's take the $10 off of your bill so anyone not parking for the restaurant can still be charged. Went to Duke's for lunch and sat at a table by the window. Love the ocean views and we even saw a pod of dolphins swimming by! I ordered the hurricane chicken which has the right amount of crisp fry and flavor to the chicken. The coconut shrimp and calamari are my favorite appetizers. The Hula Pie is a perfect finish to the meal and is a giant slice that is plenty for sharing. read more
A bit of a tourist trap. The view of the ocean is gorgeous and the ambiance is lively and fun. The food? Nothing memorable. It was fine. Better than your standard American chain, but definitely on the mass produced vs intentional and authentic side. Come here as a pleasant place to get full and catch up with family and/or friends. Not if you want an incredible brunch meal. There are too many great alternatives around here when it comes to food. read more

Awesome location waterfront with views of the waves! Nicole our server was very kind and friendly and helped make the vibe feel relaxing. Tried a handful of items and what stole the show was the Hula pie, I just love ice cream. With the cookie crust, fudge and mac nuts it was a hit! Everything else great to pick on and i recommend doing so when visiting with friends and such. Tips: parking valet only $10, bring jacket when sitting outside Highlight: I got it check out their venue space and it comes with a deck that overlooks the shore. Great option for receptions and parties. read more
We stopped by here for lunch after spending a few hours at the Getty Villa. It was my mom's 74th birthday. We were so lucky to get a table to ourselves closer to the kitchen, which we didn't care about because that just meant we were a little bit more secluded at a time when Covid numbers were running high. Our server was extraordinary! I wish I remembered his name. (Sebastian?) He made my mom feel like a young woman with his compliments and attention. My mom was so moved by the whole experience that at one point she even referred to the server as her son! Food, well, what can I say! Everything was incredible. My husband, who is originally from Cape Cod declared that this was the best fish he had ever had. My fish tacos were so good and so filling that I actually gave my husband one of the two tacos. The ribs and chicken got devoured also. We literally have absolutely nothing to complain about with this experience. With the ocean right there, with such attentive service and exceptional food it was the perfect addition to a fun family excursion for all of us. There seemed to be some Hawaiian singing and dancing at one portion of the restaurant, we couldn't see it, but we could hear the music. And as we were leaving one of the ladies dressed in Hawaiian dress offered to pose with my mom, by the statue of Duke which also made her day! read more

Came here for a birthday lunch! A great place to bring guests. The waiter was super kind and gave great recommendations. He even made sure our celebration was special with a Hula Pie, which was the highlight. It's huge and super tasty. Enough for a group of 6. Love the retro Hawaiian theme with a gorgeous view of the ocean waves. The restaurant is super spacious. We even had a celeb sighting! read more
We had a nice meal at Duke's Malibu during dine LA week. I made a reservation for 5:30, but arrived much earlier around 4pm. They were wonderful and were able to accommodate us and we got a window seat in no time, and the view was beautiful. We ordered the calamari and Caesar salad which was very good. I ordered the sirloin to be cooked medium but it was a little dry. The ribs and chicken was good. My disappointment was that they had ran out of the Hula pie so our only option was the key lime pie. read more

Fried calamari 3/5 I like the tender ones. Not steak cut, it's too hard, didn't like the texture. Only thing I could taste is the dipping sauce. Coconut shrimp 5/5 passion fruit sauce! MaC Nut Panko crusted mahi-mahi 4/5 (Halibut was 5/5) mahi mahi was dry. Hula Pie 5/5 Fish taco 3/5 it was just whatever. Their fish and chips also just okay... Ahi Tuna Poke- didn't like it. Flavor is kinda off. I usually like anything with ahi tuna and kimchi but this one was not my favorite. Wont get it again. Service was excellent as always. Go early for the best tables. spectacular view of the beach. Price is reasonable compared to other restaurants in Malibu. read more
Came into Dukes for drinks and appetizers to meet up before the besties birthday mayhem. Mai Tai's, seltzers, and a strawberry creamsicle drink that was dangerous all hit the spot. Fries and coconut shrimp for the table, strong drinks, extra shots, and ocean views. This was a perfect meet up spot before checking into the Airbnb 6 minutes away. We came in before the dinner rush on a Friday afternoon and we were sat immediately. Service was friendly and so was valet. Love Dukes! read more

We came here for my son's birthday, the restaurant is very open, inviting and the view is phenomenal. Unfortunately, that's where the magic ends. The menu is VERY limited. You can't even get bread. My sons steak was more like an appetizer it was so small. Shortly after we finished dinner I become very ill. The staff was very sweet and accommodating in helping us get checked out and on our way. Not sure exactly what made me sick but I'm thinking the salad. They did follow up the next day to make sure I was OK. Valet parking is $10, which makes no sense. There's plenty of parking for ppl to park on their own but you don't get that choice. read more

Loved this place! Over looking the huge waves. The food was great! We inhaled our food. LOL We plan on returning. We ordered the same exact items and we ate everything! The only difference was that he had a bloody mary and I had a michelada. We both ordered the crispy coconut shrimp to start. So good! About 5 shrimps and came with this chili dipping sauce and pickled cucumbers. For our entrees we both ordered the sauteed Mac nut & herb crusted fish. It had a lemon caper sauce, side of jasmine rice, macaroni salad and a little slaw. We were too full to try the Hula Pie so good excuse to return! I noticed they have banana mac nut pancakes on the weekends and Loco Moco! The hats were cute too!! We both bought a hat. And we purchase the Gidgit book. The real Gidgit autographed the book too! If you are looking for a cool place for lunch or dinner with a beautiful view and beach vibe. Duke's is your place. They offer self parking or valet. The service is amazing and the food and drinks are great! You can either eat on the bar side of the restaurant or enjoy the breathtaking views from the main restaurant. Paying tribute to the early days of surfing in Malibu as well as surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku we just had to try this place out. We came to Malibu for our elopement and had to pick a place for lunch. We had so many recommendations but this place was the most recommended! I ordered the Caesar salad and fish and chips... can i say yummy! Since I was in my wedding dress and my husband was in his suit we were given a complimentary hula pie... and it was delicious! I ordered a mimosa of course and the husband had a Bloody Mary... yes yes yes to all of it. We were also seated close to a window but not too close but I got up to take a look of the waves crashing against the rocks just outside and it was just a gorgeous view! We will be back for our anniversary. Malibu holds a special place in our hearts. Cheers to us! read more
For the views - 10/10 stars For the food - it was affordable which was surprising for the views but understandable. The food was mediocre - we did the lunch course, $25 for an appetizer and an entree. No complains, no raves. read more
My wife and I decided to take a day off of work and go to the beach so we took full advantage of the opportunity and away we go. We went to the beach for a few hours and then we planned on coming to Dukes in Malibu for lunch date and the view of the ocean which was so beautiful. I got the prime sirloin steak and fries with a side salad and it was really delicious. The server was really nice and accommodating. As you could see in the pictures, there's plenty of seating inside the restaurant and they have an attached party space for large groups of people who wanna rent out the space. The ambience at Dukes is very chill and relaxing with a view of the ocean. I mean how can it get better than that? There is no street parking as far as I can tell and only a valet parking lot in front of the restaurant that was the only downside of Dukes. I would definitely recommend Dukes for anybody who's in Malibu and wants to have a good lunch or dinner with the view of the ocean. Amen and yes please. read more
Visited this beachside restaurant for a friend's birthday brunch. She chose this place since she wanted an ocean view brunch in LA that was still reasonably priced, and this definitely fit those parameters. I tried the nachos with chicken, which were a huge portion; more than enough if ordered as an entree for 1 even maybe 2 people. They weren't the best nachos I've ever had but not the worst either. I felt the menu was lacking for options, especially breakfast/brunch ones. I ended up ordering beer-battered fish tacos to share. My friend and I both couldn't get past 1 bite as they were far too salty for our taste. Our waitress was kind enough to take these back with no fuss at all and actually felt bad about it; she even said she mentioned it to the chef for quality improvement purposes. This kind of care toward food standards and customer service was above and beyond and much appreciated. They brought our friend a complimentary hula pie as a birthday treat, and it was delicious; best item we had! Service and ocean view deserve 5 stars here! read more

Very nice view and loved the k bbq ribs so much flavor!!! The Calamari was okay a little too much breading and the lava flow while so delicious could have had a bit more alcohol. The Yukon mashed potatoes were soo delightful aswell. Overall the service tho was very attentive and nice ambiance:) read more
After a couple hours of touring the Getty Villa, my family and I worked up and appetite. Since we were in Malibu, why not a beach front restaurant. Upon arriving around 5pm on a Friday, we were greeted pleasantly and seated within 5 mins without reservation. Our server was great with answering questions about the menu and making recommendations. When in Malibu... ;) Finally tried Duke's after driving past at least a dozen times over the years. It was during Dine LA (Fall 2022) so we took advantage of the lunch menu they offered because why not -- $25 for 2 items is just too good. We got 2 appetizers (Poke Tacos, Panko Crusted Calamari) and 2 entrees (Sauteed Mac Nut & Herb Crusted Fish, Ribs & Chicken Plate Lunch). The Poke Tacos were my favorite, the sauce on the poke was fantastic and fresh. I also really enjoyed the Panko Crusted Calamari but it was a bit heavy on the breading. We were stuffed but I couldn't leave without dessert so, of course, we got key lime pie. Ohhhh my, was it delicious. So glad I tried it. It was tart, rich but still light, just a great way to end the meal. Overall, I enjoyed dining here and would definitely come back. My candid thoughts though: desserts then appetizers then entrees in terms of what I'd come back for. read more

I go in for dinner and see later that evening I that the waiter Jake tacked on an a 50% tip to my bill. Nice way to ruin an engagement. My bill was 104.50 and I gave him a 20 dollar tip (19%) for a total of 124.50. I get charged by the restaurant a 156.20. I call and talk to management. Manager Josi was rude and yelling at me on the phone. She abruptly hung up the phone on me without knowing if the problem has been solved. Is easy to say that the problems start with management and works their way down the chain at the restaurant. I will update in a few days on whether this problem was resolved. Never got an apology for the mistake or anything. If I could give customer service negative stars I would because 1 star is far above what has been deserved . read more

Super busy, but service was very good. They welcomed us with a smile and called us up for our reservation right on time. All the staff was wearing Hawaiian shirts. The view we had was beautiful, right on the beach. Food was great. We had the macadamia nut hummus for our appetizer, which we liked. I had the seared ahi steak which was very good. Caesar salad was also very yummy. It's a cute place for a family dinner or date night. Valet only. $12. read more

On a rainy night when the wait at Nobu was over an hour we were welcomed with open arms at Duke's. The staff were great and the service was fast. I loved the hummus with macadamia platter. I never thought I would enjoy dipping radish slivers in hummus but it was a good time. The sirloin was medium rare and it was a good steak. I loved the atmosphere. I've known Duke's has been there, but just never had a chance to go. I'm glad we did and I'm going back for brunch one day. read more
Great place to have lunch or dinner on the PCH. Large parking lot, valet service, attentive host staff, barefoot bar. This place has it all. Enjoy upscale Hawaiian food in one of the best venues along the coast. The lunch menu is very limited but sitting outside in the barefoot bar having a cocktail just melts your trouble away. My wife had a poke bowl and I had macadamia/parmesan crusted fish that was served with Mac salad, a really different, but good , bok choy slaw. It was an enjoyable meal, and if you look at my attached picture, how can that view be beaten. While we were eating a couple dolphins swam by the window. Great place and experience. Even bought a couple tshirts from the front desk. read more

They didn't ask us we wore our masks in till seated. The staff all wear masks

Someone brought in their baby when I was eating here, but without a stroller. It's big enough where you can, though.

Yes. I wouldn't hesitate to take a baby there. Note they have both indoor seating in the nicer part of the restaurant, and they also have a glass-enclosed outdoor seating area under umbrellas. The indoor seating can sometimes have a hefty wait…
