It's all about the view here, with the canyon and ocean in the distance
Rachel H.

Cafe on 27 in Topanga had good food photos online, but mixed reviews. Knowing this, we came for views, and looking back, that's the best reason for a visit. Our wait for weekend brunch was over an hour, but the outdoor seating overlooking the canyon made it worthwhile. It was beautiful and green, especially with a chilly spring fog hanging over the canyon. The food, though, was mediocre. Prices were also high. My eggs Benedict had a heavy, cheese-like hollandaise, all of the fat apparently but little of its traditional buttery richness. The breakfast potatoes were greasy and had a reheated taste. My friend enjoyed her avocado toast, so that may be a better order. The staff is friendly and they work together. Cafe 27 is in a beautiful, natural setting, and coming here is all about that view, so be sure to get a seat next to the canyon.

Steak and eggs

Went here for my birthday breakfast with friends last Monday. Had reservations so we were seated right away, there were 3 of us so we were seated next to this water fall feature. It wasn't that hot yet when we arrived and it was gloomy that day so being outside wasn't an issue. The good - if you're into views and like eating outdoors in a good LA weather go for it. The bad?? -- The food is secondary to places like this. So I don't have high expectations- my lobster eggs Benedict is mediocre. The lobster was shredded and not full pieces. My 2 friends both ordered the steak and eggs and one of them needed to be redone because she ordered the chimichurri on the side and it was placed on top. It's important to know, when ordering steak and eggs in places like this, the type of steak you're getting. They used tenderloin. The chimichurri was more lemony. The potatoes didn't have enough seasoning. Valet is $10, but we saw a lot of other customers parked across the street.

Celebrated a birthday breakfast here on a typical Monday, we had no reservation but was seated right away. Place is like a tree house with a good nature view. Our server is nice and even offered a free birthday dessert. Food is great but similar to most breakfast, no specialty in menus. The one hour drive is okay but not really worth it, plenty of parking in the street. Overall, I wouldn't comeback for the far location and no specialty in the menus.

Strawberry matcha

Absolutely love this place!!! From the views to the food to the service--everything was amazing. We came in on a Saturday afternoon for brunch and honestly expected a long wait, but it wasn't bad at all--about 25 minutes. While we waited, we explored the little boutiques inside, which were such a cute touch and definitely worth checking out. Once our table was ready, we were seated downstairs where the atmosphere was incredible--surrounded by trees, fresh air, and the perfect amount of shade. Such a peaceful and beautiful setting. Dorsa who was our waitress was so sweet and patient with us and all of our questions , we love good customer service !! For drinks, we tried the strawberry matcha (not really my thing, but that's just because I'm not a matcha girl) and an iced vanilla latte, which was sooo good--super creamy and just perfect. For food, I got the filet mignon stroganoff and WOW... 100/10. The meat was cooked perfectly and the sauce was chef's kiss. My sister ordered the lobster roll--super fresh with great flavor--and my brother-in-law got the chicken parmesan, which was next level. It was crusted in parmesan cheese instead of the usual style, and it added so much flavor. They didn't really have a kids menu, but there are enough sides to make it work. Overall, this spot is perfect for anything--family gatherings, brunch with friends, or even a cute date. I would definitely come back!

Lemon Blueberry Pancakes

Such a beautiful view of Topanga! Definitely a great place to take visitors. Try and say hi to the restaurant cat if you can. The food is a bit pricey but good quality and you're paying for the mountains too. The standout dish was the lemon blueberry pancakes! Such a moist and decadent texture. The citrus punch helps to cut the sweetness from the blueberries and syrup. My friend's omelette was pretty standard but came 15 minutes after everyone else's food which was quite a bummer. The chinese chicken salad was super refreshing after a long hike. Loved all the crunch bits and the uniform slicing on all the ingredients. The pastrami sandwich was far from traditional but so so good. Definitely rich so I would share! The egg got all over in the best way.

Avocado toast and Mommy's combo

Treated my mom here for Mother's Day and it was actually my first time here. It was such a cute unique spot. I loved the outdoor scenery and boho/vintage vibes. My mom got the avocado toast and I got the Mommy's combo and shared with my baby. The food was tasty and the wait wasn't too long. The lattes were also so good!

Bomb . Absolutely worth the hype. Food is great, I wouldn't say it's phenomenal, however, combined with great service and the ambiance it's 12/10. Will definitely come back many times over

This is my first time dining here and it certainly won't be my last. I came here the day I'm writing this review to celebrate a late Mother's Day. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated and were greeted with a beautiful view of the mountains. The tree canopy over us made for some fantastic shade and let just enough sun through so that it felt cool but also slightly warm. The matcha I ordered was so tasty. I never order matcha unless I go somewhere special and this occasion called for it. The waitress was very kind and let us sit with our drinks for a while before we were ready to order. The view made it so easy to forget about how ever long we waited for food. The seating area is nothing like anywhere you've been. It was quiet and we sat at this gorgeous bar like seating and had so many options for food. When our food finally arrived it was beautifully plated and was so flavorful. The biggest gripe I have is that it's so far from me and I wish it was closer. This would be a regular breakfast spot for me if I could find time to come. The bathroom was tidy and clean. I cannot wait to try more of the dishes they have.

Adorable small restaurant with an amazing views. Food is good, personal is very friendly. Absolutely recommend spent your weekend morning or afternoon there. We split tuna melt between two people and it was plenty of food.

Cafe on 27 is one of the most beautiful brunch places I've been to in LA so far. It's so nice to eat surrounded by nature and beautiful birds. The ambiance of this place is just so peaceful and the perfect place to go on a beautiful sunny day. My boyfriend made reservations for us around 1:30 pm on a Sunday. I'd recommend to make reservations prior to going here, especially on the weekends because it does get quite busy and crowded. It's quite the popular place, and now I understand why. Once we arrived, we mentioned our reservation and we were told where to sit. We had one of the high tables with a great view and luckily we were not directly in the sun which was nice. Our server came and checked in with us a few minutes after we got seated and was friendly. I ordered the lobster roll and a decaf latte and my boyfriend ordered the Pastrami Benedict and an iced tea. The Benedict came with a tahdig which was so creative, and my boyfriend loved it. The food arrived quickly, was a good portion size, and was delicious. My coffee was really good as well. The menu itself has a lot of amazing flavors and varieties, and options for everyone. Overall, between the amazing nature views, food, and atmosphere, my boyfriend and I had an amazing time there. I should mention that It's not the cheapest place. It's a bit on the pricey end, but I'd be willing to pay the price for the ambiance and food. I should also mention that they have two cute little stores by the entrance. One of them was a jewelry store where they had a lot of cute evil eye and hamza jewelry, which I loved. I ended up purchasing a necklace, which I love. I can't wait to come back here for brunch and to shop for more jewelry soon!

I visited on a Saturday morning right when they opened and was seated immediately. It was a bit chilly that day, but the view and overall ambiance were still really nice. The servers were friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly. I ordered the pistachio matcha and the lobster Benedict- both were great choices.

If you're coming for the treehouse vibes and stunning views, Café on 27 absolutely delivers just come prepared to wait. We were blown away by the beautiful, spacious outdoor setting. It truly feels like a scenic escape. It does get extremely busy, so reservations are a must. We had a 1:30 reservation, checked in early at 1:00, and were told we could be seated sooner at 1:15, but we weren't seated until about 1:35-1:40 after checking back in. Expect a wait even with a reservation, and I recommend coming with four people or fewer to avoid longer delays. As for the food, the Wispy Crispy Chicken Sandwich is a must-try absolutely delicious and to die for. I ordered the Hearty Tuna Melt, which was also excellent and something I would come back for. The iced coffee was great as well. For dessert, we tried the Fluff Giant Pancake (ricotta blueberry pancakes with berry maple syrup), but unfortunately it was underwhelming and lacked flavor, so I wouldn't order that again. Overall, it was worth the drive from Pasadena for the views, atmosphere, and standout savory dishes. I'd definitely return to try more items and soak in the experience again.

iced vanilla latte

We had such a wonderful experience, and a huge part of that was thanks to Heidi, who was truly amazing from the moment we arrived. The convenience of valet parking made everything feel effortless, and she had us seated quickly for our reservation -- which we especially appreciated since we had our 60lb dog with us. What really stood out was how thoughtfully they seated us in a spot that comfortably accommodated our big dog. It made the entire visit smooth and enjoyable, and it's clear they are genuinely dog-friendly. They even brought our pup a pup cup, which was such a thoughtful and adorable touch. The space itself is very zen and relaxing -- calm, airy, and beautifully designed. And the location is absolutely iconic. The views of the mountains and surrounding natural scenery were breathtaking -- open, serene, and stunning in a way that feels untouched and peaceful. It truly elevates the entire experience. For drinks, we ordered a hot vanilla latte that was so yummy and comforting, and an iced vanilla latte that was incredibly refreshing. They roast their own beans, and you can taste the quality in every sip. The French toast was a 15/10 -- perfectly cooked with amazing flavor and seasoning. It was so tasty. The steak hash was also incredible and loaded with meat -- definitely come hungry because the portion is generous. Between Heidi's exceptional hospitality, the thoughtful pup cup, the incredible food and coffee, and the iconic mountain views, this was such a memorable experience. We can't wait to be back.

Ask the Community - Cafe on 27

According to the hours on yelp, it says they're only open on Sundays. Is that accurate information or are they open throughout the week?

They are actually closed now until March for renovations, so I would wait to see what the new hours are then. They are very active on their IG, and update that often

Is it open for business? Or were they victims of the fire?

They just re-opened a day or so ago! Please go visit-it is fabulous

Are they open on New Year's Day?

I am sorry, I don't know. You can check their IG @cafeonn27

Is friendly kids?

I have never seen children here, only couples or multiple friends. Would be careful walking as water fountain leaks everywhere making floor slimey & slippery when going down ramp

Can we get a table on a Sunday with no reservations?

There is an app I believe on yelp called I believe open table something like that. I used it before not sure what day of week but they did have seats available for us when we arrived, Good Luck

Am I able to make a reservation thru Yelp?

Yes, you actually make your reservation through the restaurants website and they text you. That was my experience.

Does anyone else have hard time bookin reservations thru opentable even tho time slots were available?

Don't worry, we came on a Sunday morning with no reservation and we got a table within 10mins. It's bigger than you think with multiple decks.

Do they serve wine here?

They don't serve any alcohol, unfortunately, just health-conscious non-alcoholic drinks.

Are dogs allowed?

Yes. They are dog friendly and there are ALWAYS dogs there!

Is this kid friendly?

I don't see why not it's just a restaurant. I saw kids there that seemed happy.

Are they open when it's raining?

Yes. But way less seating.

Do they have parking, especially for handi cap?

Hi! They have a parking lot right there at the cafe with valets so im sure you can park right near front for handicap access. 👍🏻

Can I take my dog , being it is a patio seating?

Yes.

Hi, do you take reservations? Thank you, I found their reservation tab on their website.

Yes they do. Recommend to have a reservation

Do you guys take Apple Pay?

Yes

Can you just grab coffee and a pastry to go?

Don't know- i'm sure

Do they take walk in on weekend like Saturday?

Yes

Can you accommodate treenut allergies (pistachios, cashews, walnuts, pecans)?

Are you dog friendly?

Yes

The two lane road one way, becomes one lane, with many windy turns. As you drive on, to a progressive higher altitude, the fresh air, the greenery, the view below, engulfs your senses. What a beautiful ride, till you arrive at TLC. I was there on a weekday (by design), to avoid the crowds and because parking is very limited, if you wish to be close to the establishment. Walking in, there is a small space of an ordering counter (with a display of some foods), some on the menu, some not. A few merch racks and some indoor tables. You can also sit outside, under umbrellas, for a more airy feel. Many come here for the tranquility, several of them with their laptops. While I was aware before arriving what the limited menu entailed, I was attracted, amongst other selections, by the optics of the Tomato Frittata and Cucumber Salad, in the food case. And that is what I ordered. Since the Frittata comes with a house salad, it was a reasonable $2 extra to substitute for the cucumber salad. The Tomato Frittata was warmed up and served to my outside table. It was fluffy, fresh, having distinct texture and tongue slide, to highlight the tastes of egg, cheese and tomato. Nice ingredient arrangement all around. Same for the cucumber salad. What I liked here was no overdose of citrus (as you so often taste in other places). A harmonious balance of simple nature ingredients, that take care of the flavor, and take you to a place to remember. The cucumber was well diced, colorful, bold, crunchy and nourishing, with every bite. Overall, a satisfying experience, and an impressive weekday brunch visit for me, in the stunning and magnetic hilltops of Topanga.

We decided to come back with friends but on a Wednesday night at 6:30 instead. Sat at a table in the area where the music was but it was very loud and tightly packed with tables and guests. I could barely hear my friends due to the loud conversations, loud laughter, and just the acoustic affects in the restaurant were bad from that. We ordered steak, sides, and thought baked potatoes but got mashed instead. After we ate dinner we asked the manager if we could seat outside for dessert instead due to the loud noises around us. He brought us there but we had to wait at the bar outside till we were seated took an additional 15-20 minutes. After seated it was better than inside with a nice decor too instead. Dessert was ok service good. For such a high-ended restaurant and pricy food it's only avarage, inside decor pretty but very and tightly packed with guests and loud especially for a week day night kind of unusual, I was disappointed think it's a bit overrated sorry to say. I think Flemings, Ruth Chris, or Morton's are better food wise for the same price and dining experience and not as loud too. Think what could make it better is to thin out the crowded packed affect in the main inside dining area would help a lot too, or, if we ever go back sit outside instead I recommend. The service and staff there were very nice, friendly, and attentive and worked hard during service though. So overall raiting is a 3. Tuesday music night inside was good though think because the band is set up where tables of guests would be so less talking and guests listening to the music instead. Hope they make some changes to there inside seating there for improvements will and could help overall.
