I absolutely love this space! The staff are so nice, very accommodating. It's a beautiful spot that overlooks the canyon, and it really does feel like a treehouse on the side of a canyon. The best customer service ever -- everyone was so kind and welcoming. We ordered the pastrami egg sandwich, but unfortunately the pastrami was very hard to chew, so we brought it up just to let them know. We weren't even asking for anything in return, but they kindly asked if we wanted something else instead. We said no, we just wanted to give feedback, and they still gave us a 30% discount, basically taking one of the meals off the bill. I've had bad experiences at other restaurants before where staff and management argued with us and we ended up leaving hungry after paying a lot of money. Our wait for weekend brunch was over an hour, but the outdoor seating overlooking the canyon made it worthwhile. It was beautiful and green, especially with a chilly spring fog hanging over the canyon. The food, though, was mediocre. Prices were also high. My eggs Benedict had a heavy, cheese-like hollandaise, all of the fat apparently but little of its traditional buttery richness. The breakfast potatoes were greasy and had a reheated taste. My friend enjoyed her avocado toast, so that may be a better order. The staff is friendly and they work together. Went here for my birthday breakfast with friends last Monday. Had reservations so we were seated right away, there were 3 of us so we were seated next to this water fall feature. It wasn't that hot yet when we arrived and it was gloomy that day so being outside wasn't an issue. The good - if you're into views and like eating outdoors in a good LA weather go for it. The bad?? -- The food is secondary to places like this. So I don't have high expectations- my lobster eggs Benedict is mediocre. The lobster was shredded and not full pieces. My 2 friends both ordered the steak and eggs and one of them needed to be redone because she ordered the chimichurri on the side and it was placed on top. It's important to know, when ordering steak and eggs in places like this, the type of steak you're getting. They used tenderloin. The chimichurri was more lemony. We came in on a Saturday afternoon for brunch and honestly expected a long wait, but it wasn't bad at all--about 25 minutes. Such a beautiful view of Topanga! Definitely a great place to take visitors. Try and say hi to the restaurant cat if you can. The food is a bit pricey but good quality and you're paying for the mountains too. The standout dish was the lemon blueberry pancakes! Such a moist and decadent texture. The citrus punch helps to cut the sweetness from the blueberries and syrup. My friend's omelette was pretty standard but came 15 minutes after everyone else's food which was quite a bummer. The chinese chicken salad was super refreshing after a long hike. Loved all the crunch bits and the uniform slicing on all the ingredients. This is my first time dining here and it certainly won't be my last. I came here the day I'm writing this review to celebrate a late Mother's Day. We waited about 5 minutes to be seated and were greeted with a beautiful view of the mountains. The tree canopy over us made for some fantastic shade and let just enough sun through so that it felt cool but also slightly warm. The matcha I ordered was so tasty. I never order matcha unless I go somewhere special and this occasion called for it. The waitress was very kind and let us sit with our drinks for a while before we were ready to order. The view made it so easy to forget about how ever long we waited for food. The seating area is nothing like anywhere you've been. It was quiet and we sat at this gorgeous bar like seating and had so many options for food. When our food finally arrived it was beautifully plated and was so flavorful. The biggest gripe I have is that it's so far from me and I wish it was closer. This would be a regular breakfast spot for me if I could find time to come. The bathroom was tidy and clean. The ambiance of this place is just so peaceful and the perfect place to go on a beautiful sunny day. My boyfriend made reservations for us around 1:30 pm on a Sunday. I'd recommend to make reservations prior to going here, especially on the weekends because it does get quite busy and crowded. It's quite the popular place, and now I understand why. Once we arrived, we mentioned our reservation and we were told where to sit. We had one of the high tables with a great view and luckily we were not directly in the sun which was nice. Our server came and checked in with us a few minutes after we got seated and was friendly. I ordered the lobster roll and a decaf latte and my boyfriend ordered the Pastrami Benedict and an iced tea. The Benedict came with a tahdig which was so creative, and my boyfriend loved it. The food arrived quickly, was a good portion size, and was delicious. My coffee was really good as well. The menu itself has a lot of amazing flavors and varieties, and options for everyone. Overall, between the amazing nature views, food, and atmosphere, my boyfriend and I had an amazing time there. I should mention that It's not the cheapest place. It's a bit on the pricey end, but I'd be willing to pay the price for the ambiance and food. I should also mention that they have two cute little stores by the entrance. One of them was a jewelry store where they had a lot of cute evil eye and hamza jewelry, which I loved. If you're coming for the treehouse vibes and stunning views, Café on 27 absolutely delivers just come prepared to wait. We were blown away by the beautiful, spacious outdoor setting. It truly feels like a scenic escape. It does get extremely busy, so reservations are a must. We had a 1:30 reservation, checked in early at 1:00, and were told we could be seated sooner at 1:15, but we weren't seated until about 1:35-1:40 after checking back in. Expect a wait even with a reservation, and I recommend coming with four people or fewer to avoid longer delays. As for the food, the Wispy Crispy Chicken Sandwich is a must-try absolutely delicious and to die for. I ordered the Hearty Tuna Melt, which was also excellent and something I would come back for. The iced coffee was great as well. For dessert, we tried the Fluff Giant Pancake (ricotta blueberry pancakes with berry maple syrup), but unfortunately it was underwhelming and lacked flavor, so I wouldn't order that again. My mother was visiting Los Angeles and we spent a couple of nights in Topanga. I heard how quaint cafe on 27 was so we had dinner there on Saturday night. We were totally impressed by the service from the host at arrival to the servers and bussers. They were all so sweet and I have to say very attractive!! I have been here multiple times already, but was able to come with my kids for the Yelp event. They had not been previously. It was an excellent surprise for them, especially as my older kid is soon off to college. I'm trying to make every memory I can with him, in hopes he will want to come back to CA to visit. They were in awe of the gorgeous surrounding and quaint style of a treehouse type restaurant. At the end, we had to stop at the shop and each got a trinket. (I had never gone into the shop and so I was actually surprised at the eclectic items that they carried!) First off, I always suggest you opt to valet. It can be a pain to find parking. The valets are attentive and professional. Ok...On to the actual restaurant. I must admit, I normally go to a restaurant and order the same thing over and over. I am a creature of habit and am cautious to try anything new. Luckily, the previous times I came the people I went with forced me to try everything. It was always a great. On another trip the other guest ordered about seven things to taste a bit of everything. So in turn I tried a bit of all he had ordered. The only thing I was so-so on was the lobster roll, but I'm not a fan of lobster. He liked it a lot. But I digress. On to this visit, I stated I info above to preface the fact that I felt safe to order something new. I tried the veggie sandwich (sans onion) and it was great. The caramel latte hit the spot. My small one got the Daddy's special waffle. The waffle was fluffy and light, but it was a bit sweet with everything else that was added. But melted ice cream was a nice sauce for the waffle. The kid loved it. Her raspberry lavender lemonade was the best drink at the table. I would have had a million glasses of that and ultimately fell into a diabetic coma. The star of the show was the big kid's pastrami. He had never had pastrami before. He wants to try all the meats he can. It had an egg, jalapeños and some sauce. He got the potatoes on the side. Safe to say I wish I ordered the potatoes instead of my fries. His sandwich was so delicious I secretly wished I could switch half of mine for half of his, but he was so happy that I dare not ask. (He's a very good kid and would have quickly obliged). Anyway, that was the winner. Portions are ginormous and delicious. I was so worried during the palisades fire that this could possibly been affected, only because of all of the greenery around it, thank goodness it wasn't. I am so grateful for this event as it got me to drive there. It's about 45-60 min (depending on traffic of course) but soooo worth it. The only request I make is that you don't go when I go, as I don't want to wait to park, for a table etc. it's that busy. But go. Go right now. You won't regret it! I booked a reservation for 2 at 6pm and was seated right away. The experience of dinner is different than the breakfast/ brunch experience but everything was really pretty. There are outdoor space heaters, can't see the mountain view like we can during brunch but the candlelit experience with slow romantic music playing in the background created the perfect intimate atmosphere. Our waitress was super attentive and accommodating and periodically checked in on us. For appetizers we ordered the calamari and spinach and warm feta dip with pita bread. Quotes from my husband "I love this tartar sauce" for the calamari. The appetizers came pretty fast and were delicious. For dinner we ordered grilled salmon and the burger. Everything on my salmon plate was delicious from the grilled vegetables to the butternut squash. The salmon was perfectly grilled to crispy perfection and light and juicy on the inside. The burger came with fries and more tartar sauce and ketchup. All the flavors of the burger worked really well together and the beef was cooked perfectly. First time at cafe on 27 and it was absolutely delightful. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because our reservation was never found even though I placed the reservation on March 4th but I never received a confirmation and didn't take a picture of the screen when I made said reservation. So the difference between having a reservation and not is that we were seated at a shared table as a group of 5. Whereas a reservation will get you a table out looking the greenery view of Topanga. I don't know if it was a glitch within the reservation app or user error. Nonetheless we had a wonderful time. All our drinks were delicious. I personally had a chai latte with oat milk and it was superb. Others ordered cappuccinos and vanilla lattes and they also enjoyed their drinks. We ordered different plates and basically shared. Starting with the avocado toast with a side of patatas bravas. Let me tell you The plenty avocado toast is by far the best I've had. Someone had reviewed it as the toast being too hard but mine was perfectly crunchy I definitely recommend you trying it and if you're sharing order the second toast slice. Other plates on the table were the French toast with berries, lobster Benedict, classic egg's Benedict, kofta tagine, and steak and eggs. Everyone at my table enjoyed the food. It all looked amazing as well. They also have a little gift shop where you can buy coffee beans from Honduras and Peru, a lot of stones, stickers and jewelry. The valet makes it easy to pull in and walk into the restaurant as Topanga is busy. So I recommend using it, it's $10 plus any tip. Arrived to Cafe 27 on a Saturday around 2pm, there was a 15 min wait but then seated promptly in the beautiful restaurant. Staff was super friendly from the start, i brought my large german shepherd and got the perfect table with a lot of space around us. We had the most delicious pastrami sandwich, and lobster eggs benedict-- both were great but recommend the pastrami the most. Vibes impeccable, food delicious. A little pricey (~$27-$33 for entrees) but well worth it for the experience and you can tell they use the best and freshest ingredients, naming the sources on the menu.
