We stopped in mid afternoon for lunch and Duke's wasn't too busy. We were seated within minutes and greeted by Dylan. He was very friendly, knowledgeable and patient. We started off with a glass of wine and enjoyed the ocean view. There is outside seating available, but it was a breezy, gloomy day so we opted for inside. Seating is plenty and the booth was comfortable. We ordered fish tacos and fish and chips. Both were terrific and arrived fairly quickly. The sweet tooth that we both have was craving the key lime pie, so we ordered it and it was excellent! Parking is by valet only unless you can find highway parking on busy PCH, although not recommended. Valet was quick and was 12.00. Went for the first time since the fires/floods. Our server Roxie was outstanding and the food was excellent, loved the fish tacos. Only one gripe, we had a reservation for four people and asked for a booth. The lady at the desk told us no booths were available even though we could see at least five of them open. Review- Just for the bar: Drinks and Dessert..... We are a regular at this location- despite this place being a tourist attraction. And despite this place being a bit pricey. But what can we say....its has tropical ocean vibes....and its right on the ocean, so we find ourselves stopping in quite often for a drink or two. Unfortunately, the frequent happy hours are now almost extinct here too- they have some specials throughout the week, like Taco Tuesday but not the same as the past with their happy hours! We have found that during the week, off times, you tend to mingle more with locals than tourist which is great to sit back with the locals at the bar and shoot the breeze. As we already ate, we just popped in for drink and desert. I had a glass of local wine from Santa Barbara that was on special for $12. And a Mai Tai that was $17- a little steep. We love this place! Not pretentious, and has lovely and friendly staff who make you feel like you are coming to THEIR home for a meal. The food is good and the views can't be beat. Love the remodel after the closure and appreciate the valet parking. The fish and chips is good, but I would recommend getting the macaroni salad with it instead of the fries. We also enjoyed the ribs and chicken plate. Save room for the Hula Pie which comes with a generous amount of real and delicious hot fudge. read more

If I was specifically writing this review on just the views alone, this would easily be 5-stars. But since I came for lunch (which for me left a lot to be desired), I am going to be brutally honest and give this place just an average 3-stars. This takes me none other to "Duke's Malibu", a wildly popular beachfront restaurant overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Located directly off of Highway 1 (Pacific Coast Highway) and adjacent to Las Flores Canyon Rd. in the heart of Malibu, this location has been around for several decades. It is under the same ownership (part of "T S Restaurants") as several other Hawaiian-themed restaurants in the SoCal area such as "Hula Grill", "Leilani's on the Beach", and a few others. I also wanted to add that Duke's has 5 other locations, Huntington Beach, La Jolla, and the three others in the Hawaiian Islands. Due to this place being very busy during all hours of the day, reservations are highly encouraged. I made my reservation via-OpenTable for 1:15pm during the afternoon of Saturday 7/27/2024. My lady and I arrived around 1:00pm which gave us ample time to park and proceed inside. Just a heads up, they ONLY offer valet parking and charge a flat rate of $12 (as of mid-2024) in which case you pay after you leave the restaurant. As far as the layout, this place is quite spacious which includes both indoor and outdoor seating. I recommend trying to get a seat by the window to give you full views of the ocean all in its glory. As for our reservations, everything went very smoothly as we were seated in less than 5 minutes. The menu boasts a very large variety of award-winning wines as well as a nice selection of draft beers on tap, canned craft beers, hard seltzer, cider, Kombucha, and tropical cocktails. Their food selection is not as vast but offers quite a bit of your comfort classics including burgers, sandwiches, ribs, nachos, and seafood plates. I ended up going with their "Huli Huli Chicken" which included grilled all-natural chicken, macaroni salad, Jasmine rice, and bok choy Macadamia nut slaw. She goes for the "Duke's Classic Burger". I chose one of Malibu's local beers which was their Honey Blonde (part of Malibu Brewing Co.) while she had a regular Mojito. Surprisingly, our food comes out first while our drinks arrived halfway into us eating our lunch. As for my chicken, it was just okay for me as they were on individual kabobs but still seasoned well. The rice was not very moist and was actually the worst part of the meal. As for the macaroni salad, it was also just average to me as I've had way better versions at local Hawaiian BBQ places in the past. So when you break down the food part of things, this place is just okay but not mind-blowing amazing. Drinks are good though and the views are to die for. So if you come to enjoy a drink (or two), "Duke's Malibu" is the way to go. I am sure there are other signature dishes that stand out but I find the food to just be average at best. Prices are actually reasonable especially being in a populated tourist area like this. Some of the highlights of this place were quick Wi-Fi speeds in the dining area and a super cool waiter that made us feel welcome. We even got so see some whales swimming in the ocean. It is also kid friendly and (at the outside patio area), dog friendly. With that said and done, I am giving "Duke's Malibu" just an average three stars. read more

Ambiance- 4/5. Came on a Friday night and enjoyed a nice dinner beside the window right next to the breaking waters. Duke's is most famous for beachside views while enjoying your food. It was a nice experience looking out the window and enjoying the views of the waves crashing onto the shore. Comparing Duke's San Diego to this location, I think the San Diego location has more of a paradise and classier atmosphere than this Malibu location where it felt more like an Island's Family Restaurant which is not negative but for the price point I think it seems overrated. Food- 3.9/5 Fish Tacos. You get 2 tacos (grilled or battered). I chose 1 grilled and 1 battered. It comes with a side of tortilla chips. The fish was cooked well and the fish tacos were if you are wanting something small. I think the price was too high for what I got. *Guava Daiquiri was fabulous and very enjoyable to drink. If you like tropical and something light and sweet, you will like this. Service- 5/5. Servers were friendly and efficient taking care of our orders. read more

Dukes is a great celebration place! Beautiful inside and the outside tables beyond the bar are amazing! We always see dolphins jumping, and after sunset you've can see all the way down to the carnival of lights at the Santa Monica pier! The mai tai is good and comes in fun glassware with fruit and an umbrella of course! There is a kids menu, a regular menu and bar menu so make sure to get bar menu as well! The poke tacos are tiny but really good, not too spicy even through there is chili and wasabi aioli. The Mac nut crusted fish is always a good bet! Don't forget the hula pie! read more

We stopped here on the way up the coast to explore around Malibu. We had an absolutely wonderful experience from the food to the service to the view. We got a window seat and we're able to look out at the waves and see the dolphins swim by while we enjoyed our lunch. The food was absolutely amazing and the fish was fresh. They even had a little scavenger hunt for the kids to play while we sat and enjoyed our food. Once you complete the scavenger hunt the front counter gives the kids a surprise. Came for a birthday brunch and had a pleasant experience. We had a reservation so we were seated quickly and our server Anna took great care of us. I'd say the food was good, my friend got the Dukes burger and said it was alright. I got the ahi bowl and liked it, seared rare and flavorful. Portion was good for me since I'm not a big eater. Since it was my friends birthday we got the hula pie and it was delicious, really liked the vanilla with macadamia nuts and the chocolate cookie crust at the bottom. It was just okay. Honestly, the best part of our visit was having Jake as our server; great energy, doesn't hate his job, spent the time to talk to us about the menu and didn't leave us hanging during our stay. Otherwise, food was lackluster and for what we got, the bill was a product of the rent which is expected of an ocean front restaurant in Malibu. We got the best seats in the house so that made up for it a little bit along with the great service we got. Although the chef is going in the direction of "deeply delicious" with the cook and flavors of the Sticky Ribs, on our pallet the salt was too high; slightly off balance. The mayo on the Poke Tacos really degraded the freshness of the fish and all around wasn't an ingredient fit for the dish...dairy and fish are a pesky pair. The biggest letdown for sure was learning that the chicken wings had been taken off the menu which was the driving factor for coming in in the 1st place. I haven't been to Duke's in a long time, and I'll tell you why. The pre-pandemic version of this place gets an easy 5 stars not just because of the calamari, sticky ribs, and crab rangoons, but also because of the exceptional brunch buffet! The individual items on the buffet, which were usually a la carte items from the normal menu, were all decent to good. Together as a buffet, however, you would get a delicious sampling of what the restaurant has to offer. That buffet is no more, and I don't know if the individual dishes are exciting by themselves. That said, the hula pie is massive and delicious. I'm going to give them 5 stars anyway because the view of the water is still pretty beautiful. I just hope they reinstate the buffet some day. read more

This spot is one of the only spots you can go locally, sit at a bar, and watch the ocean. Such an amazing spot. No wonder it continues to remain while other places come and go. The food is solid. It's not a crazy culinary experience, but it's good. The bartenders are always super cool and friendly. Cameron is awesome. He is usually there during the day, and always just a fun and helpful bartender. We always get the seared ahi bowl. It's done well. The fish is fresh and well seasoned. A couple things to note: 1- It is valet parking only. As of 2024, it is $12 2- there are longer wait times if you want to sit outside. Be prepared to wait. 3- there is brunch on the weekend and it's good! All in all, this is a great spot to come and enjoy the ocean views. read more

Dukes has reopened after more than a year and as a Malibu local I was excited to return. I tried to call ahead of time but I was later told by receptionist we don't answer the phone when we are busy. It's not even summer yet. Dukes mahi burger was my go to meal Units no longer on the menu so I ordered the crusted fish. The fish taste was bland and not as tasty as before. WOW it was so nice to see this place open again- I felt so bad after they survived the fires then got flooded with the rain so when we heard it reopened I had to come and support this business. Our server Alice was so friendly, professional and helpful with choosing our entrees. So I went for the Halibut and it was delicious ! My Hubbie had the poki bowl and loved it and we had the tuna tacos which I loved too. ( I stole a bite of his ) LOL There is a Bar area where a woman was dancing hula and music was lively on the south side of the restaurant and of course we had a Mai Tai - It was a beautiful night and the ocean was gorgeous. we have been going to Dukes for years . However, my experience last night wasn't great. We have been there 2 times since their reopening. we took 2 of our friends for dinner last night and I ordered a Mai Tai while we waited for them in the bar. We had a table by the window we ordered appetizers I was happily drinking my Mai Tai, when I looked in my glass and there was a huge fly floating around in my drink. Major turn off I felt sick to my stomach . Told our serve she kind of giggled took my drink back I told her I didn't want another Mai Tai. The bartender should have come over. We went to Dukes recently for my birthday in July. My husband made a reservation and requested an ocean view table by the window. When we are arrived for our reservation they sat us in the middle tables not a window seat or even a booth viewing the ocean. I asked if we could be seated by window or wait for window as we came with our family of four and we all would have enjoyed that. They didn't help in that regard and kept us seated in the middle row. During our dining time 3 of those window tables came open and couples were seated there who were drinking and barely eating at each of those tables, so two people for each of these 4 seater tables, rather than a family of four making a request for birthday occasion? In terms of the food I really didn't like my dish at all the macnut seabass it tasted like it was in a mayonnaise sauce. And the food all in all was very average at best and for spending $250 or so for average food and a bad table was quite disappointing for a birthday dinner out. read more

The fish tacos were so good and I loved the fact you get an option to have both fried or grilled fish. Both tasted yummy, I did like the fried fish more though! Also got a mocktail which was delicious and a nice option because I was driving haha. But they do have tons of options for drinks with alcohol haha which is nice as well. We sat at the bar and got to choose our seats right away! There was no wait! And we still got served as if we were seated at a table, they were nice and attentive, no waits. We sat at a table by the window and enjoyed the gorgeous ocean view. Back wall is all windows so I imagine you get a great view no matter where you sit. We were having an early dinner in Santa Barbara so we split a burger. They split it for us and it was perfect size. Served as ordered with sauce on the size. A long time Duke's fan. Limited menu and hours for now - yet still god quality. The only drawback was the acoustics were not handled well in the latest remodel. So excited that Duke's has finally opened! We stopped by yesterday around 2 PM and had about a 45 minute wait, but it honestly went by quickly thanks to the comfortable waiting area near the bar. It's a great spot to relax while you wait for your table. I ordered the fish tacos and they were absolutely delicious fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. Our server, Stevie, was wonderful. She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and checked in on us often to make sure everything was perfect. Of course, we couldn't leave without ordering the famous Hula Pie! Since we were celebrating my daughter's birthday, we asked for a candle and the staff kindly made it feel extra special. Overall, we had such a great experience from the food to the service and atmosphere. We'll definitely be back soon. read more

An icon over the ocean for a reason. Stopped here on a work trip with the rest of the team, and it was delicious. We had some seasonal drinks, and I had of overloaded nachos that were amazing. Duke's has been a favorite of mine since it opened, & I was so happy that it survived the fire & mudslide, and was finally reopening. However, sadly, today was a disappointment. Menu choices were fewer & the prices have jumped, particularly the macadamia crusted fish plate. The serving sizes were smaller, the previous simpler rice side replaced with rice with corn & peppers, the broccolini nearly unrecognizable. We shared the hula pie, but both of us immediately noticed the serving size of this also appeared smaller than before January 2025. The service was excellent, the restaurant looked so fresh & clean, and the ocean view was as mesmerizing & soothing as always. I will give Dukes another try later this year... Being from Jersey sitting outside in December was a treat. Best calamari I've ever had. Nice size cuts, seasoned and fried golden brown. My fish and chips needed to be fried more. A great place to go if you're in the area! First, there is parking. There is plenty of parking and the restaurant has great beach views. The place is huge so there is plenty of room for even big parties. The food: I tried the fish tacos, calamari, Baja fish plate, fish chowder, and it was all delicious. The menu and food is very much like bar food. It's a lot of small finger foods and not a lot of full size plates. Like typical bar food, the menu features lots of appetizers and shareable food. They have a whole page of just beer and alcohol so again, bar food and menu The dessert was delicious. The Kona cake was like a giant slice of vanilla ice cream cake with the fudge putter layer with the Oreo type crust. Absolutely delicious. All in all it was fabulous. The food was good and fresh. I wish they had more hearty type food, but there was a lot of bar like shareable food to choose from. Their fish chowder was absolutely delicious. I will definitely come again.
