Okay! This place is amazing! I saw them on someone's list of places to try and I'm so glad I did. It's a bit of an unassuming space. There are a few tables and some bar seating. But the dumplings are amazing. The staff are super friendly and the food comes out pretty quickly. We had the beef and the mushroom dumplings. They have great flavor and the sauce is a show stopper. I even bought some sauce to take home. We also got the rice side and the cucumber salad. I almost bought more to go but I needed to pace myself for other eating that day. Definitely come here! You won't regret it! read more

Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 4/5 I had heard lots about this spot so stopped by for a quick bite mid-day! Their menu is pretty limited but had both veggie and non veggie options so we got one order of each and took a seat while waiting. The dumplings came out piping hot which was great to know that they were freshly made! That being said, they were a little too crunchy for our liking and the sauce was spicy without much flavour unfortunately. It was a great little snack but I wouldn't recommend this spot for a full meal since one portion is pretty small! read more

Came here with high expecations and boy did this miss the mark. We were in Victoria for just a few days, and this was on my checklist as a highly recommended place. The dumplings were over-fried and perhaps with oil that should have been changed. The flavors of the sauces were also just all right, and too salty if anything. Pretty good stuff, however and I know this is preference based so I am so very sorry but it was a little spicy for me and gave me some evil heartburn after and everything had cilantro. That isn't why it's getting a 3 though, I just found it sort of average. Pretty small portions, not the cheapest ever, mango sticky rice was just buttery rice with mango and I like it to be sweeter and heavier on the coconut. But I will say service and ambiance was great and I can see myself popping back in on a late night for a little snack. read more

Based on the Yelp reviews, I wanted to try this place. Had we not just enjoyed some terrific Korean Fried Chicken just before I would have been tempted to order more. But on a tip from a customer, we got the special of 5 dumplings and a small glass of Sapporo for $10 C. When you factor in the exchange rate, that's $7.50! Totally reasonable for a tasty snack. I wouldn't say the dumplings were to die for. I'm not used to deep fried ones. They were hot and crispy, though, and arrived just about instantly. Super hot! They were a little awkward to eat because of their 'fried ball' shape but they were even harder to eat! They came with this super flavorful chili sauce that I couldn't get enough of, but it did make this little buggers tough to pick up. I didn't find the pork filling to be anything special. Wasn't bad but wasn't spectacular. They also had Lemongrass chicken available, but since we only did one order, we didn't try those. I think, if I come back, I'm going to grab some of the frozen ones to cook up on the boat. And you can be sure I'll try multiple flavors and make sure there's plenty of chili sauce! read more

Recommend the place for it's vibe and inviting space. The service is a bit slow and the food is only alright. I'd categorize this place as a small bites place. You won't be full (unless you order a bunch of small plates). Last time I was here I got their fried dumplings and it was overdone by a bit the bottoms were a little burnt. read more

Decided to stop in here to grab a quick bite while exploring around Victoria. I'm glad we did, they had a great special that was dumplings and a beer and it was a warm day. We got the order of pork belly dumplings and the beer. I haven't really had dumplings like this before but my wife had, so I was pretty excited. This place didn't disappoint. The chili oil that was on these and gave them a pleasant kick. They were nice and full and cooked so nicely. They held their shape and they didn't get soggy. The filling was delicious and juicy. It was a great little shop with friendly people and a great special. I wish we could have bought some of the dumplings to take back with us, but we didn't have a cooler. read more

It was our first visit to Dumpling Drop. The dumplings and chilli sauce were delicious. We ordered vegan dumplings. Casual and comfortable ambiance. We weren't expecting the dumplings to be fried. The dumplings were crisp and full of delicious tastes. They also sold some of their frozen dumplings to go.'This restaurant is ideal for a fast bite. The review from Sally below is pretty spot-on with how we felt eating here. Which is such a huge disappointment because we were excited to try this place from reading about it online and seeing the photos. And the owners seem super nice and I wish them success. But those dumplings.. were not it. They also seem to have a messaging problem as multiple people mention "they were surprised" to see the dumplings come out deep fried. I knew this coming in because of checking Yelp first but maybe a more obvious mention of it on the menu or a photo for customers to see before they order? I wanted to try these because they were deep fried and I had not seen that before. I was open to something new. But pan fried might be a better option for them? I don't know. All I know is that sauce they put on it was rough on the tastebuds. Didn't feel great walking out of here. However, the cold beer they served quite honestly was a highlight. Dumplings dumplings all day every day! Love the crispy goodness and that sauce wowzah! We also had the crispy chicken Bao - soft moist pillows of yumminess! We ordered ours to take out so we could eat on the go while touring around Chinatown. Great service - the young lady graciously brought out our order as soon as it was ready ( only a 15min wait!) My girlfriend and I were staying down the street and came across this spot in Chinatown across from Market Square. It's pretty small with maybe three tables and bar seating. In total I'd say the restaurant can seat around 20 people max. We ordered the Vegan Dumplings and Pork Dumplings. Both orders were actually not what I expected. I'm used to having steam or pan fried dumplings. These seemed almost deep friend since the wrap was fully crisp like a deep friend Wonton. Still good though and I'd order them again. Both came in like a spicy hoisin/peanut sauce. Overall it's worth a stopover for a quick bite. Their apparel is really cool and I would have bought something if there wasn't any labelling on the back. I just wanted something that said Dumpling Drop in the chest. read more

This was the best lunch I had while I was in Victoria. The sticky mango rice, might have been the best rice I've ever had. The dumplings had a chili sauce on them and were fried. We also got the raspberry creamsicle pop and it was everything I wanted it to be. I'm going to dream about this place. If you're in the area, you should 1000% swing by. read more

We came across this place while strolling in China town. The menu is very limited with only few options for dumplings so we were hoping they would do those few things really well. We got 5 pork belly and 5 shrimp dumplings. First the dumplings were fried which is fine , we have had fried dumplings before and they can be good. The dumplings came covered in a red sauce, the sauce itself didn't taste anything special plus it over powered everything. I could hardly tell which one was pork and which one was shrimp as they both tasted almost the same. I prefer juicy dumplings and this was just mediocre. read more

We were drawn in by the name and wanted something quick and hot. I expected steamed or boiled, not fried, but these were a delicious surprise. We ordered one pork belly (5) and one shrimp (5) - both were great. The wrapper is very light and the fillings are generous and tasty. I slightly preferred the shrimp because it was so delicate. Yummy sauce on top - would eat these again. Lots of people came in to take out frozen while we were here. No nonsense yummy place and well located for a quick tasty snack. read more

My girl friends and I went on a 4-day Victoria trip last month and we tried Dumping Drop for dinner one night because we were really craving dumplings and especially a comforting asian meal. For those of you who don't know, Victoria and basically the entire Vancouver Island is pretty much white-dominated and extremely not culturally diverse (trust me, I know - I grew up on Vancouver Island and lived there for 18 years) so it's tough to find good/authentic asian food. We found this place while strolling around Chinatown and gave it a go. We all ended up ordering the same thing - we always think alike. That's why we're all friends though haha. All three of us ordered one bowl of chilli pork belly dumplings along with some deep fried chicken wings. To keep it short, we were highly disappointed. Nothing about the food tasted authentic and I was extremely disappointed in the way they were executed. I would not come here again and would not recommend to anybody if you're looking to eat authentic asian dumplings. This was nothing we expected and I'll tell you why: pork belly dumplings When we got our dumplings we were kinda shocked - they had deep fried them and the skin was crispy and not in a good way. They were so incredibly hard that it made chewing them extremely difficult. I had difficulty in chewing this because it hurt my mouth so much. The filling was ok but the way the dumpling was prepared really turned me off. The chilli sauce on top wasn't even chilli, it tasted like sriracha only, which was even more disappointing and unoriginal. If I could rate this, it'd be a 1/10 - I would never order this again. It would have tasted WAY better if they were to just steam or boil it. Granted, it was probably our fault because we didn't read the part of the menu where it said deep fried dumplings. I just never expected to have them deep fried to the point where the skin was so hard and inedible and it was never really how I ate them growing up and tasted super inauthentic. deep fried chicken wings This was the only appetizing thing dish we ordered. Hands down the BEST authentic Thai I have ever put in my mouth!!!! Lord have Mercy! It's called Masaman Gai. Chicken thigh potato coconut tamarind curry served over jasmine rice !!! My God if I lived in Victoria I would probably eat here weekly!!!! read more

This place is majorly cool. I have a feeling if I lived in Victoria, my freezer would be full of their dumplings. My husband and I sat in for some of their classic vegan dumplings and they were some of the best I've ever had. They were deliciously crispy and full of flavour. My only regret is not ordering more. I'm also a huge fan of their branding. It's not often that I'm tempted to buy merchandise from a restaurant but I came close with their sweatshirts and hoodies. Their logo is so cute! The only thing that stopped me was that they were currently sold out of my size. You can also shop online but I think I'll hold off until I can visit in person again. read more

I only tried one thing from here, deep fried dumplings. I didn't care for them. They were hard, and not in a nice crispy on one side that pan fried wontons are. I know they have many more things on their menu, and I would happily try those. read more

Just picked up lunch from DD and have to say they were smoking busy and the woman behind the counter was run off her feet taking care of many many tiny things that needed doing. She maintained her professionalism and the food was great and still fast. Have had great food and great service every time I visit. I hope people appreciate this gem of a place and the folks who work there. read more

I will say the price point was very fair for the range of dishes and quality in service you're provided. Staff was exceptionally attentive and sweet. I let them know in the reservation it was his bday and at the end of the meal he got a little slice of cake! From what I gather, other customers were also very pleased with their meals and some were frequent diners so I would definitely recommend this for a small intimate date night or even a larger bday group. It was both of our first times in Canada and this was the perfect meal to treat ourselves to on our last night. Thank you not so Ugly Duckling!

Complaints were a dry, possibly pre formed and frozen meat patty...the veggies were necessary for moisture. I had the buttermilk chicken "schnitzel" with fennel salad and potatoes. The fennel salad consisted of 2 1/2 thin shaves of fennel. The potatoes were good. The chicken was most likely 3 oz and pounded literally as thin as paper and deep fried within an inch of its life! The dish was small or meager size and I don't need a lot to feel satisfied but simply didn't with this dish of greasy, overcooked paper thin chicken. Ugh. Chocolate torte for dessert....although thin, it was rich and delicious. We shared the white bean mezze for a starter, the hummus was good and the pickled carrots very good. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice, dark with deep colors and chill. The feeling we had was this restaurant trying to be a 5-star, chic culinary adventure (small portions but amazing food); however they fell very short. Unfortunately this hotel offers no other kitchen or menu for guests and room service. You won't find a delicious and varied menu here...you are stuck with Fathom. Do yourselves a favor and enjoy a culinary adventure outside of the hotel - every restaurant we have dined in (every time we ferry over to BC) has been yummy, with the exception of Fathom.
