I was feeling a little under the weather and came here in search of my craving for Chinese noodle soup. I ordered the beef stew noodle soup with spinach. While the soup itself was tasty, the portion size appeared to be half of what most other restaurants give. Usually, this dish can be shared, but the amount here was barely enough for one. Luckily, I had an order of Shandong style pan fried dumplings on the way. The dumplings didn't taste as good as the first time I had them. I enjoyed the outer dough skin wrapper much more than the meat inside. The meat was tasteless. Overall, a bit disappointing for a $20 lunch. read more

Ordered from them via postmates. I ordered at 8:30; it said "your order is being prepared" for an hour and 15 minutes before it was ready. I ended up getting my food at 10:00, an hour and a half after I ordered. I ordered hot & sour soup and sesame chicken and they were both disgusting. The soup tasted terrible and the chicken was so gooey that the sauce literally stretched on my plate. Don't give this place your business. read more

Absolutely, positively delicious - my mouth waters just thinking about the vegetable dumplings and buns. I get takeout a lot. And the service seems to have improved since it opened (we once ordered steamed dumplings and got them fried, only to have been told we couldn't get the steamed ones -- picture of not good service right there). Takeout doesn't take too long, and neither does the food it if you're sitting there, even at peak business hours. But -- $20 credit card minimum??? Come on. This place is super reasonably priced, so it's hard to spend that much, actually. They get tons of business so I can't imagine that this restriction is necessary. I mean, if Berryline can take credit cards for $3 micro cups, I feel like this place should be able to, as well. Anyway, that's the only reason I detracted one star. The Xiao long bao are the best I've ever ever had and surpass the ding tai fung's of the world. Each juicy bun contained 2-3 full sips of amazing juice; the sha-tsa spicy beef noodles were delicious and ma po tofu was done perfectly. If you are visiting the Cambridge MA area, forget hitting Chinatown where all that you'll likely get is Hong Kong-like all-dishes-are-served-in-some-form-of-brown-sauce. Instead, give this place a try and you should be pleased :) read more

I went here late at night (11pm-ish?) with a really big group (probably 25 people), and it was really great. The service was really good - they accommodated us without any trouble (split among a few nearby tables) - and we commenced to ordering tons of food that everybody shared. I dine at the Dumpling House at least once a week with a group of friends and co-workers. We are OBSESSED with the pork soup dumplings and we also love the mango chicken, the beef and broccoli, the flat noodles with vegetables, the scallion pancakes, the peapod shoots, the asparagus chicken.... OK, we love pretty much everything on the menu and love doing family-style, always trying something new every time we're in. The staff -- who have gotten to know us in the last year -- is always awesome. Everything is delicious. Our motto is "Always say YES to the Dumpling House." So.....try it out! read more

Dumpling House is an offshoot of the very popular Gourmet Dumpling House from Chinatown. It is the best authentic Chinese restaurant in the Central/Harvard Square area. Mulan on Broadway is also up there on my list but is unfortunately closed temporarily due to a kitchen fire. Because it is relatively new (maybe around one year), I have never had to wait for seating every time I've gone. Perhaps I have been lucky. The dishes are excellent. They have a good selection of classic dishes and a wide variety to choose from. My favorite appetizer is the lamb kebab, pieces of lamb skewered on a bamboo stick seasoned with a not too spicy pepper powder. I don't think I've seen this fish in other restaurants around the area. The xiao long bao (mini dumplings) is another favorite of mine. It is the specialty of Dumpling house, perhaps also its namesake. For the n00bs who haven't had this before, the best technique to use is to grab the dumpling with your chopstick and place and eat from a spoon. The dumplings contain soup in them, so you can drink the soup and enjoy your dumpling at the same time. Another good dish is the Seafood hotpot with vegetables. It is a hot broth containing all your favorite seafood, tofu, noodles, and vegetables. One is large enough for two people. A brave soul sitting next to our table was attempting to finish a whole one by herself, including the rice. Even the waiters were cheering her on. read more

The Dumpling house is right across from where I work, so I've been there a few times for lunch with my coworkers. A group of 8 took a new hire out to lunch there last week. Even though there are many options in the area, we had nearly a unanimous decision to go to the Dumpling House. The Dumpling House has great seating for large and small groups and a wide variety of options on their menu to fit the preferences of almost any palate. I was looking for something on the healthier side, so I got the Noodle Soup with Fermented Cabbage and Fish. The soup had the perfect amount of nicely cooked noodles. The fish was plentiful and buttery, and the cabbage was tasty-- obviously fermented but without an overwhelming flavor. They accidentally gave us an extra order of dumplings, which they did not charge us for. read more

Best Chinese food in Cambridge, if not the entire state. I always make a point to eat there (or at its sister restaurant, Gourmet Dumpling, in Chinatown) when I visit the Boston area. My favorites include the soup dumplings, the scallion pancakes, the pot stickers, and the amazing beef stir fried rice. There are some good fish dishes, and the MaPo tofu is excellent. Unlike Gourmet Dumpling in Chinatown, Dumpling House takes reservations, which is worthwhile at dinner time because there can be a significant wait otherwise. About a 10-15 minute walk from Harvard Square or Central Square T stations. Parking is iffy (it is Cambridge, after all). read more

Best Chinese place I've been to in the square. The dumplings are pretty great as well as the other dishes. Most reviews commented on the bad service, however I didn't notice that too much. In terms of decor, slightly more upscale than its sister restaurant, Gourmet Dumpling House in Chinatown. Same quality and prices, though. As always, the Sichuan spicy sliced fish and doubled cooked pork are my favorite items. This restaurant also is bigger than the one in Chinatown, so no long waits trying to get in the restaurant. most dumpling houses don't have that many vegetarian bun options, but dumpling house in cambridge isn't really an exception. i decided to go with the vegetable buns with mushroom. they're like giant pillows of dough wrapped around veggies and a little bit of mushroom. if you're expecting mushroomy goodness, damp down your expectations. they didn't have that much flavor, but they were filling because of all the dough. we also ordered the sauteed rice cakes with vegetable, and braised tofu with scallion and vegetables. the sauteed rice cakes were pretty forgettable. the braised tofu was so braised that it ended up collapsing in on itself, so that it was less tofu, and more skin. you're obviously going to come for the xiao long bao (mini soup dumplings with pork) if you're a meat-eater, which my boyfriend had. spoiled as he is as a white boy from south dakota, he thought they were only okay, and that he's had better. take that as you will. verdict: will come here again if craving dumplings, but otherwise, will pass. read more

Hot and sour soup was some of the best I've had. Watercress with garlic cooked perfect. For dumplings: shangdon pan fried and pork and leek steamed were delicious. Unfortunately I went for soup dumplings, and when they arrived they were dried out like they had been cooked a long time previously and sat, then were reheated before serving. They were not very hot like they usually come scalding from other places, and there was not very much broth inside but the filling was very tasty. The dumpling itself looked very dry on the top and was a little tough to bite into, not soft. read more
